Hi and thanks for the replies,
To answer to your questions, yes of course I did a 2 pass encode...
I understand that more bitrate is required for high motion but shouldn't the program take that in account when calculating the bitrate in this mode?
I do not have end credits so I will either do the encode again or try an overburn and hope that 16 more Mbs will fit :D
Any word on the dlls?
Let's say I take the movie to a pc that has not the realone player installed, could I include just a couple of dlls along with the movie and register them or do I need the whole package just for the playback?

I don't think you should have a problem overburning. I use RecordNowMax 4.5. I routinely overburn up to 18M (718M) with no problems. Larger files than that I tend to get errors. Good luck.

i just downloaded from the offical site , do i need the modified exe??
is rv9 aimed at the movie archiving community or the streaming community? with the spread of braodband that may be a unnecessary question, but a valid on in my opinion.
At lowe bitrates (56k) how does this compare to the sorenson and such?
also does the rv9 make html codes the way real producer 8.5 used to do for you and uploading facilities?
and what about editing facilities?

AutoRV9 is for archiving, not streaming. RV9 was developped for streaming, so you can encode for 56k.

I posted http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61567 in the subtitles forum since I thought my problem was caused by vobsub, but I have since started to suspect it is a AutoRV9 problem which is why I also post a note here. The artifact appears *only* with movies encoded using AutoRV9 1.3 final, not with for ex 1.3b6 or xvid. The subs from a movie encoded with 1.3 final also do not produce any artifact when used with a movie encoded by another version or codec. Can someone confirm having the same problem? What does 1.3final do that 1.3b6 does not?

Hi all,
I came to RV9 just this week. So I'm a complete newbie regarding Real Media although I'm playing with XviD and other stuff for quite a while now. Well, I started my exploring with AutoRV9, it seemed to be the obvious thing to start with.
Here's my little question and I was too dumb to find the answer myself. AutoRV9 converts chapters from an input file to the Real Text format (I guess) and includes that in a SMIL file for playback. The only thing is that I can't figure out how to use this chapters in RealOne or MPC. Is this possible at all? Please enlighten me.
Cheers, tiki4.
P.S.: Thanks to all developers for the wonderful tools and the really highest quality codec I've seen so far.

hi,
first for those who are interested u can find the greek and czech language file in my site web :)
@synaps
yes normaly sagitaire is working on a french guide :)
@Griniaris
for the dll i am working on a light package (less than 1.5 Mb) only for read rv9 and to add in on the CD :) i am actually working on the registry key necessary.
@lilhobo
i think your question inot directely in relation with autorv9 (who is designed for backup your dvd).
@hubereevez
thank u / merci :)
@olorin
does your resolution of your movie was a modulo 16 ?
@tiki4
u need to click on the video picture and the chapter list will appear in overlay in your movie. for realone plyaer u just need to click on the video screen for MPC u need to activate interaction :
view=>options=>RM/QT=>select "Allow interaction with video"
Bye.

I would also like to know this. If it is possible to only include a few dlls and register them then this would be preferable.

@ D-C
In fact, every movie I had encoded with 1.3b6 had a horizontal resolution dividable by 16, and all movies encoded with 1.3final had a res not dividable by 16. So, this is what caused the green bar?
Dark-Cracker

@superdump
in fact there apparently there is a few .dll needed (at last 1.4 Mb) but i must completly test the registry key needed. i will add this pack soon :)
@olorin
yes there is some problems when the movie resolution was not dividable by 16 and some this add a green bar, try to replace the ...\softs\avsfile\VSFilter.dll by a new file i think this will probabely solve the problem , else u need to ask at gabest to fix this bug in his filter.

DC : I want to ask you for one thing when you release your dll pack to watch RV9 files.
Probably you will make an installer which copy all dll´s to windows directory and register them.
Could you please add to this installer the VSFilter.dll (vobsubfilter 20030829)
and the realmedia_Direct Show_Splitter_20030904 from Gabest???
I ask that because usually i watch the movies with spanish subtitles, my mother tongue.
Anyway, really thanks for your time and effort.

No offence alx, but the reason the pack was requested was to make it smaller and so through including vobsub the package will be inflated unnecessarily for many users. If you learn how to make NSIS scripts (it's not too difficult I promise :)) then you could make your own installer with those two extra filters in. After all, the two filters you mentioned are only just less than 1 Mb themselves!!
alx

No offence tanken at all, really.
The vobsub filter and the DS filter, compressed in a cab file are 339k more. Don´t think it is too much.

be sure u use the milestone file bundle in the autorv9 v1.3 package, because i have added a dll (rmto32.dll it seems to me) who avoid such problem in joinning credits+movie.
@alx
the pack is on the way i just must find time to made a working NSIS installer and test it :)

hi all. i kept running across this thread about autorv9 and how rv9 is so good at low low bitrates and such. i never once even thought about giving it a shot just to see. i always said yeah right rv sucks and then hit the back button. well.....take into mind i was/am? an long time divx user. for a few years actually. i thought i would give it a shot. all i can say is WOW. i was flabbergasted on how low i could really push it. i OWN the dvd chicago that i backed up using divx 5.1 2cd rip. cant remember bitrate or anything off hand but the encode is very very nice as one would expect a 2 cd divx rip to be. near dvd quality for sure. well i ran chicago through autorv9 gave my settings for 1 cd rip no extra filters or such just to see what i would get. full res! well hours and hours later and after finding a player that will play rm without having to install realone or whatever. i loaded up the file 697mb and WOW. i was really shocked. the quality was very nice. not at all what i expected. the file was archive worthy forsure. i tend to just be a little hard on my own encodes. i watch for articfats and such. hehe stuff most people would not notice in a million years. anywho. i cant say enough what it has done for my toon encoding. i cap alot of spongebob squarepants for the nephews and i usually get one ep down to around 90mb for a 512x384 capture the quality if very good. well, i got the same episode down to 32mb with autorv9 light filtering same res and the quality is **should i say it** better than my divx conversion. it may take a few weeks or so to make the switch over to rv9 for good. i think im still in denial. lol i just never thought of real media for archiving. dunno why really. i guess i was just so used to using the same codec. i felt confortable with and knew i could make a good encode with. im not saying rv9 is better than divx but i am saying if i can get the same quality i have been getting and using only half the amount of space. ill take it. i cant wait to play with E.H.Q to see what it has to offer.
ill stop rambling now and just say thanks for a wonderful prog.extreamly user friendly or i would not have gave it a try. ill leave now. :) :) **walks away while still trippin out on how low the bits can be pushed with rv9**

If you just install the RealOne player, you don't have to use it. Just install it, then get the Real Directshow filter. Transmux the RV9 file to MKV, and you can have all sorts of goodies with it. With the Real DirectShow filter, and the ability to use it in MKV, Real Video 9 has become a very flexible and competetive format.

@hoola,
just want to now how long did it take to encode the full move in rm???
i did just test with a small clip, it was good, i tried on full movie,(without filters, machine 2.4G, 512 DDR)
after 9hrs it was still in first pass :(, i am using DC tool for this.
I am not able to play the audio in this fmate... the player wmp6 gives err unknow formate and the latest mcp say version mismacth, something like that ..... and hv insatlled real-anternative104.exe...
Generally i use divx with ffdshow filter and the burn the cd, if people use rm what filter they add to play the file on the cd, so that if i give it to my friends they can play without any extra sw. any info will be helpfull

@cjaar
hey. if i can remember it took around 13-15 hours to encode.keep in mind that was full res. i have the latest real-alternative 1.09 from betanews and the .rmvb file plays perfect in windows classic. i used autorv9 xp 1.3(awsome prog,,,props to the author) for the encoding. the film is 1hour 53min long and looks great on 1 700mb cdr. im sure if i would have used filters nnd ehq the encoding time would have dramaticly increased. i only use filters for tv caps anyways.when backing up the dvds i own i hardly ever use any filters. what i did was put the realalt109.exe which includs mpc file on the cd with the movie what way if someone wants to borrow and watch they can just install it befor watching movie.i know some people dont like installing other software just to watch a file. BUT...after all the backup was made for me. so if they want to borrow and watch it they will have to use what i know works for me. im not too techno inclined so i like bundles like realalt109 that comes with everything i need.
not that i know for sure but 1.09 shoud fix your problem with sound. good bug fixes between 1.04 and 1.09. im sorry im not more help but im no expert by no means. sometimes i tend to use what works and not whats,according to the masses, right.

EDIT:: never mind i think i found my answer in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44625&highlight=autorv9+vob i would still like examples on how others do this. thanks ill try this later tonight. peace and thanks again for the awsome prog.

if u only use one .vob file, simply load dvd2avi v1.76 select the desired .vob file (it will automaticly ask u for adding other .vob simply remove them) and create this sample .d2v file :)
else create a .avs file and use the .trim(startframe,endframe) to select hte desired part to encode.

Dark-Cracker,
Thank you for the fantastic program. I'm encoding anime with AutoRV9 and I'm very happy with the results I'm getting. And it's so easy to use. I especially like how one can easily tweak the colors and instantly see the changes (increasing color saturation is a great way to make animes look better, IMO). Your program is so well done... for example, when one goes to crop a video, the video preview window is not covered up by any other windows like in GK. You do it right. Thanks again for all your work.

@Dark-Cracker
Some questions:
1) Packet size is still 15000, shouldn't it be 16000?
I'm using AutoRV9 1.3 + last update EXE on this thread (for compressibility)
2) I've seen many values for quality (been learning from the threads on the last 4 days, was complete n00b on RV9) - 80,83,87, and now 75.
Why quality 75%? Is it enough as a first pass for you? And how much compressibility would you recommend? 60% to 75% like in MPEG-4?
Maybe tests should be made over complex scenes using vbrquality and the least post-processing possible to get a reference value. It's hard to say on RV9 because it allways looks good, we'll have to find some pretty hard scenes to do it :)
3) About PatternAdaptivity and ScalingFactor, do you plan to add them to your tool?
Thanks for the effort and quality of your tools :)

hi,
@all
thank u very much for your nice answers, i am always happy when i see my work can help other people :)
@bilu
1) in fact under my old win98 i have see sometimes the packetsize was not always enable when i have set it at 16000 and in the spec the value 15000 is write as maximum so i have prefer to set it at 15000 because even if 16000 work beetween two millestone this value could be down at 15000. no very important because it's the max size packet, it's rarely rushed.
2) quality 75% seems to give aproximatively same size than quant 2 for mpeg4 codec. so this value have been used for the compressibility test. the compressibility test was still experimental for rv9 there will not have a lot of feedback with this option , in my tests, u can obtain a % lower around 55% give u good result, and with rv9 the % doesn't change a lot even if u change resolution.
yes tests are welcome but i am back to school and it will be hard to find time for this :).
3)PatternAdaptivity param seems to change the bitrate redistribution so changing it manualy could be dangerous, scalingfactor will probabely be added in next release :)
i will see later with karl if these params really can improve quality and which settings to use :).
Bye.

Hi DC, this time is to ask one simle question.......something that happens only to me until now.
With your last version (1.3), i tried to do a movie wich is in the directory "g:\MATRIX RELOADED DISC 1\New Folder" and AutoRV9 when i tried to start the preview or the codec, says "avserror in line 9, cannot proccess g:\MATRIX RELOADED DISC 1\New Folder\Folder\1_Movie.avs" or something like that......
Please NOTICE the second "Folder" after de "New Folder\"......is repeated, so, of course, mpegsource never could find de .d2v.
Is just me???

can you try again but renaming the "New Folder" to something else but also with more than one word and with spaces?

bilu - I normally use c3d and undot with mpeg4 but decided to try rv9 without any filters.Compressabilty came out the same and there was no difference in quality when comparing the same encode with those filters, so i would say you could proberbly get away without any filters and keep sharpness.I did notice though that there is no speed improvement between using filters and not using filters.

I have solved my problem with the needed dlls and I am finally able to create RV9 standalone cds!
It was really simple actually and I meant to let you know for quite some time but I forgot it...
I place 4 files on the cd along with the movie and use a startup program to load the movie. The files are: Mplayerc.exe (Media Player Classic for the playback of course) pncrt.dll, cook3260.dll, drv43260.dll (for RV9 video and 5.1 cook audio).
If you need to playback different video or audio just replace theese dlls with the needed ones and it works like a charm!
Thanks for this great program! I love it!

hi,
@superdump
in fact a few week ago i was crashing my HD i have lost 30 gb (my sources for autodub, autorv9, property shit and analyser, landub, avisynth editor, besweet lite gui ...) i have also lost my report for my training period needed for my studies, and also the rv9 pack (finished 1 hour before the crash :( ).
i have succeded to rescue , an old version of autodub (v1.7.5) and a previous beta of autorv9 (v1.3 beta 5.6). i am actually updating them, but for the codec pack i will made it later, not enought time to made all.
@griniaris
hum i think u need a lot of other dll, in the registry the path of the common, codec, and bandwith is stored, so i think your dll in your cd simply call the other dll needed for the playback.

Your little trick works like a charm, I've Uninstalled RealOne, then cleaned "Program files\Common\Real" folder, rebooted and then burned RV9 movie on a CD along with "atrc3260.dll" "cook3260" "drv43260.dll" "pncrt.dll" Total: 1.46MB. This trick probably works because MPC has built-in Real Media splitter\ A/V decoder.
Griniaris
6th November 2003, 23:01
That's why I told you it only works with MPC...
I have done the same thing and also deleted all registry keys about Real dlls and it works ok for me too.
The nice thing with MPC's internal filters is that you can even use Matroska as a container for the rmvb file (I use it to also include chapters in the files) and it is still playable without any other filters.
Thanks for the testing, I am glad it worked for you too!

Is anyone familiar with the AutoRV9 options for audio boost? The default settings are:
Boost Factor: 4
Limit Factor: 0.85
DRC Algorithm: DspGuru
I can't find any documentation on these settings. In fact I can't find any decent documentation for AutoRV9 at all. There are a couple guides at the website, one for 1.1 in English that is not very good and another for 1.3 in French. The French guide looks like it covers all the options in AutoRV9, but unfortunately I don't understand French.
I wish someone would write a good guide for AutoRV9 in English that explains all the options.
