Hi
My old version of Subtitle Creator has been destroyed (probably by my grandchildren!). I loved it so much that I have decided to install the last one. I started from SubtitleCreatorV1_9_0.zip and after extraction I got the program SubtitleCreator.exe.
Unfortunately when I try to run this one, I get the error message: "A unhandled exception has occured in your application..". In the attached jpg image more details can be seen.
However I could Open text subtitles and my loaded .srt file was correct. This is the only thing I can do.
Of course I have installed .NET FRAMEWORK and my OS is Windows XP SP2 (french version)

Any help would be welcome

Would you mind trying the new version, SCv1.9.1 - the msi installer should give you the best results. If that one gives you problems too, please send me a private message and we will look into it in more detail.

Word of apology - I posted this in the sourceforge forum as well

Anyway I have my monitor/screen resolution set at 800X600 (because it is an old monitor and I do not want to buy another one just yet and if I change to any other finer resolution, the monitor spits the dummy). The gui window for subtitlecreator is truncated at the right and at the bottom and I cannot change the size of the window. So I cannot get access to the buttons on the right to change font colours etc.

is there a way to fix this easily?? Other than the obvious of buying another newer monitor

There are several alternatives: if you open the IFO file that came with the DVD, SC will automatically select the default colors (black outline, white text, silver anti-alias) for you (I never select them manually anymore, and always do it like this). If you prefer another color schema, change it once (on a big screen monitor), and save the settings, which will create a settings file with your prefered color schema that you can copy and use on your old system. The default color schema of SC is the same as used by MuxMan, so if you use this piece of SW, it should be OK too.
Your final alternative is to send me a PM with your email address, and I can send you an updated version with a smaller minimum screen size, so you can resize it (or wait for the next version :-)

Hi.

Ive tried to get the latest 1.9.1 version to work but it seems to crash everytime at startup. Ive uninstalled it and reinstalled etc. but it just keeps crashing. The 1.9.0 version works without problems though...

--------from the manual--------------
-You can now also use <i>italics</i>, <b>bold</b>, or <u>underlined</u> subtitles (*)
-You can also use <L>, <l> and <s> for LARGE, large, and small text (*)
--------------------------------------

that's nice already, but can you also add color-tags?
like <color1> <color2> ... <colorX> to pick the color no. X form the ifo (or from the standart colors)

this should work fine for 1 or 2 colors per title
for 3 you can merge the black outline and the transparent background to a black background
more than 3 won't work AFAIK, due to limitations of SUP, but you could replace color 4 by color 1 in italics or a different font...

i can elaborate more on it if you are interested in implementing this feature

thx

I am working on a fix to that problem - it is most likely due to the changes in the XML files that are stored in:
c:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\SubtitleCreator. Try to delete that folder, and start it again. Hope that works.

About he color labels - at the moment, this can be done after creating the SUP in the SUP manipulation tool - you can select one subtitle and change its colors (for a whole sentence only, though).

well, i thought more of tags that can be used anywhere, like italics (of course limited by the 4-color-per-title limit)
it's not that important, but would be a really nice addition

EDIT:
The new version looks awesome! Thanks a lot! :)

EDIT2:
Noticed very small "thing". In the profile manager the values you set manually by typing them in dont get saved if you dont either press return or use the increase/decrease value buttons afterwards.

EDIT3:
Another error i found. New SC cuts small piece out from the bottom lines of the subtitles, only at letters like "g" or "y" that go further "down".

http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/3535/scsuberror8vz.png

Top samples are created with 1.9.0 and the bottom ones are 1.9.1. Small piece is missing from the outline black areas.

EDIT4:
Also i noticed that in 1.9.0. the same thing happens but only when the subtitle goes "out of bounds" at left or right side of the subtitle area, cutting off any black outline there is.

I hope you can fix this in the next release if possible.

I used to have a very annoying problem with "shaking subs" created with Srt2Sup. This happened with certain font settings. It looked like some kind of an interlacing problem. Is this what you're experiencing? Please notice that I haven't had this problem with SubtitleCreator...

I made subtitles with subtitle creator, Arial Bold 22, with outline width 4, and set background and anti-allias to transparent. Subtitles are for NTSC and i set vertical to 376. Yes some of subtiles in movie shakes, not very often but sometimes. I dont know why, so i asked if someone has same problems.

Paddington

Why do you set the anti-alias to transparent? This could be responsible for the flickering, as you could have 'transparent holes' in your subtitles.

Alternatively, it might be the case that you have an older TV - try Heathcliff's alternate anti-flicker algorithm (check in Formatting menu) and try it again.

The profile manager allows you already to create new profiles, and set the subtitle position... go to the menu Profiles\Manage profiles

Yes but it doesn't keep the fonts and colors

Yes but it doesn't keep the fonts and colors
I've just tested it, but it works for me? When you press New, change the font and press OK, it saves the font.

About the colors - if you prefer a different color scheme, the preferred colors can be manually set in the Settings.xml file, and SC will automatically try to find them in the IFO palette. That's a nuisance, I know, but you would need to do it only once. Or do you need to have a separate color scheme for each profile?

Hi sesko,

I have experienced the flickering effect too. I did a lot of experimenting with anti-aliassing. By setting the anti-alias color to 'transparant' you switch off the anti-aliasing, which will make the flickering-effect even worse. So I suggest you set the outline-color to 'black' and the anti-aliassing-color to 'medium-gray'. This will give much better results.

However, this does not always remove all flickering. To further improve the quality of subtitles on interlaced screens (like on television) I programmed an anti-flicker-filter. I suggest (as did Paddington) you use this filter. It is available on the formatting-menu.

Hope this works for you!
Greets,
Heathcliff.

Sorry about the previous version, which caused many users some problems if they had saved their profiles in the old version. Hopefully, the current version 1.9.2 will fix that, which you can find here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/subtitlecreator/)

There is not so much new in this version, but it's mainly a bug fix release:

Manusse translated SC to French, which will be released very soon
Now possible to decrease the size of the window for 800x600 monitors. In this case, you should turn of the "Show DVD synchronziation" feature in the settings window, as there is no room for it anymore.
Edit menu now available
Simple option to remove all line breaks if the result doesn't fit the subtitle window
Added a link to the home site (to facilitate looking for new versions)

Bug fixes:
Due to changes in the XML settings and profile files, and the fact that newer version read the old settings and profiles, the previous version experienced incompatibility issues, which should have been resolved in this version.
Fixed SUP manipulation, such that changing the SUP colors or position still results in good SUP files
Fixed <L> for large fonts, which often caused it to move outside the subtitle window
DVD Wizard has been improved, and can be used to automatically demux (using PgcDemux), mux (using Muxman), and replace the original IFO's (using BatchUpdateIfo)
Fixed small bug that caused "..." to be changed to ". . . "

Hi there!!
I am tring to convert some srt files with SubtitleCreator 1.9.2 and I can't open them.
The are two srt files (Matrix Reloaded), with the same timings, one english and the other spanish... no problem to open them with Subtitle Workshop, but with SC I get this error:
Error reading subtitle number 1191
The file has 1192 lines... I've tried to delete the 1191 one and then I get:
Error reading subtitle number 1190
And so on...
Some ideas about this problem?
Greetings! ;)

I am not sure whether we are talking about the same kinds of files, but this feature is already implemented for srt or sub files, which you can drop on the listbox (where the subtitles appear). If you alter the behaviour using the SHIFT or CTRL keys. Or are you talking about something else here?

Thanks for reporting this - did you get it with SC1.9.2, in which case it's a bug, or with an older version? What happens is that SC doesn't like empty lines in subtitle files, and it sometimes spits them out...

Thanks for your great program !! :thanks: I got SC1.9.2 and tested it.
When I use manipulate SUP file, each time save and load same SUP file, whole subtitle shift left one pixel. So, beginning of subtitle will missing one pixel. End of subtitle will have one more pixel (same as last pixel).
Also, I manipulate Chinese (BIG-5) SUP file, always it will have one more pixel at botton of SUP. (only can see after author with ifoedit).

First, thanks for this excellent program.

I found a bug: In the convert frame rate dialog the decimal point character is wrong if the your locale is different from the Windows version you are running. For instance, I have norwegian locale settings on an english WinXP, and should then get 29,97 not 29.97, which causes an error. Inputting the correct decimal point character manually works fine.

Here is the exception text:

Subrip does convert DVD subs to SRT. Not sure if they read Sup's directly.

Hi Paddington.

Long time havn't wrote anything cause SC was doing his job perfectly ;) And still doing.
One request, not simple, but maybe there is sollution.
POSIX version.
I know that sc mainly depend on .NET, so it's hard to ship it to *nix'es. I'm no expert (still can't figure what is this) but there exisit MONO project (www.mono-project.com), for POSIX and windows. From what I've figured out this is open sourced implementation of MS.NET, but I might be wrong. This is one sollution, if it's possible at all.
Second one, make it work through wine. Althou I've tryed to install .NET on wine, I failed on both linux and freeBSD :( Buth ... ;) ... once I used cdburnexp.se to burn my cd. It's also builded upon .NET, but many people have mixed feelings about installing .NET, so someone came up wit only runtimes for cdburnerxp. Is it possible to make the same runtimes for SC ? It would be great :)
Thats my humble request ;) What do you think ?
I submit as guinea pig for testing ;)

Hi Paddington.

Please try this subtitle : http://www.tototek.com/SC_BAD.rar
Use SC Manipulate SUP function. (I use SC 1.9.2)
Try a few times open sup, save sup, open sup, save sup, open sup, save sup, open sup ... (each time overwrite the same subtitle)
Then you can see each time subtitle shift left one pixel.
Please fix it, thank you very much.

I tried to load a subtitle file, where one line of text was wraped in parenthesis. I got an error and the subtitle file wasn't loaded at all.
I don't know if this is correct or not. Furthermore SubtitleCreator said there is an error in subtitle 11, but the problematic one was #12.

Then I have a feature request. If I'm joining subtitles, the program asks me to pint it to a AVI file to set the delay of second file. If I choose no, the program sets the delay according to delay of first subtitle file. I think it should rather ask me, to set the delay manually in seconds or frames.

vlada

Now I noticed another possible bug. SubtitleCreator reports some subtitles being too long even if they are not. I also mentioned another problem in this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=104999) thread.

@Paddington
...
Some phrases have a bug - see attach files (from d to d-).
Note, that modified subtitles (d-) have 1 copied line from top part to bottom part of subtitles.
Also modified subtitles are shifted by 1 line upper.
...
I've tested v1.9.1b5 that You sent me.
About line bug (see attach) - most 1-string phrases are showed correct now.
Also some 2-string phrases were corrected.
But in some phrases that contain 2 strings (see phrases 22, 23) bug is still present.

This bug in v1.9.2 also wasn't fixed
I removed cropping in SUP:
data.SetSubtitleBorders(0,data.BitmapPos.Width-2,0,data.BitmapPos.Height-2);
// Keep the original size - do not apply Xmin,Xmax,Ymin,Ymax borders
Bug is dissapeared.

So [feature request], can you add an option to disable cropping?
I think, it can be also helpful in test purposes with some other bugs.

Also, maybe anybody have met with other bug:
I demuxed some cells (not entire PGC) with ReJig. But when I opened .sup in SubtitleCreator, subtitles count and entire time were the same as in entire PGC. Last phrases (which count was much more than valid) were duplicates of the last valid phrase.
Is this a bug of SubtitleCreator or ReJig bug resulted in .sup?

I will be annoyng, I know, but lately I found some article on porting .NET based apps to linux with mono. Maybe it might be helpful, if you tend to create *nix version.

If you want to convert DVD subtitles to srt it's better to use VobSub or SubRip (not SC).
If you want to load DVD subtitles in SC you should demux subtitles from DVD first (with PGCdemux, ReJig, VobEdit).

Hey!

I am new to this forum and sadly because of problems with subtitile creator:(
when i try to start the program i get error message:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0xbf0 (3056), Thread id=0xa90 (2704).
Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

It is the 1.9.2 version and it worked just fine untill two days ago. I already tried reinstalling the program and .net framework and it doesn't help. Program just stopped working, i didn't install anything new on my computer, neither did nothing unusual with it. Does anyone had similar problem or maybe anyone know what is wrong?
Is there any other program that can open .sup files?

Thanks in advance.
