So there was a bug: Preview button cannot be enabled with this option. (bug fixed v.> 0.31).
You can preview your movie and credits scripts separatly selecting movie OR credits radio buttons..
...with trim option set to "both" the script tab vanishes!!!! is it a expected behaviour ??? Yes, for the same reason.

hi... this is a 'basic' gknot question...

why dont you include vobinput.dll with besweet and enable avi as audio input for besweet... this would be nice for avi captures with wav audio...

and also vdubmod can deal with avs containing audio - is this possible with gknot (set encoder)...

thanks, bye...

p.s. is it possible to feed besweet with .lst file containig video/audio files... (will i get one or more audio files)...

I'm planning to go on holidays soon and I'd like to make 0.32 beta package soon. (we need to get it to the beta status, coz I got the feeling that not many ppl are using alphas these days).

for the pack itself the following thing will be updated:

- DVDDecrypter
- BeSweet
- languages
- TomsMoComp
- VSRip (add it to the pack)

Anything else I missed?

I feel like we need to have a beta status from now on. So first beta is out (full rippack actually). Enjoy.

with gordian there is not the PreGain and Dialog normalization

p.s

I is not an expert but I believe that the problem is in the command line of the gordian for besweet

-ota ( -Hybridgain) in gordian

-ota ( -hybridgain) in besweetGUI

I did some tests from dos and there are differences using the two command lines

When I run DGIndex.exe on Ripping tap (click icon in 2-Prepare the VOBs box) of Gordian Knot 0.32 beta, I can not check "VFAPI Plug-In" in DGIndex's menu.

It can be checked only when I run DGIndex.exe in DGMPGDec directory.

tHe gLouCh

In GK, applications (like Besweet, DGIndex, etc...) are executed from the GK directory. And it seems that DGIndex need to be launched from its own directory for the "VFApi Plug-in" option to be checked.
I have done the necessary change :) (> 0.32)

I've always used oagmachine to encode ac3>ogg vorbis, which uses azid to normalize the file (- g 0.97).

I've noticed that GordianKnot uses the OTA parameter to normalize the file instead - Pregain looks like the most similar setting to azid's (g 0.97) as they both use 2 pass normalization so right now i'm sticking to that.

Which is most reliable way of normalizing - pregain, hybridgain or postgain?

It's the first time, that i got an oversized output file. I got an Avi that ist oversized by around 300mb. I've encoded it twice an both times the problem appeared.

Hi there,

thank you for the new version!

[FIX/CHG] "Chapters info" was not saved correctly to .job file. So format has been changed. You can add 50 chapters to movie, no more.

Just came across a movie with 66 chapters (and didn't read the above before). When trying to process this monster, GK spits out an error message "access violation at address 00313520. read of address 00313520" when the job is being put into the queue. A bunch of other error messages (privileged instruction etc.) follows, finally GK crashes. Works fine without the chapters info ...

If there is an easy way to implement the muxing of vobsub-subs into mkv, I'd tentatively suggest such a feature :-)

Thank you for your work,
Thoralf.

Hi there,

just encoded a movie (2cd-rip). For reasons unknown to me, GK didn't split the result in two:
[...]
07:39:40: Started Muxing Audio.: C:\DVD\Projects\Das_Boot_VTS_01_PGC1\Das_Boot_1_Movie.mkv
07:46:48: Finished Muxing Audio.: Duration: 7 minutes, 7 seconds.
07:46:48: Error analysing file " "C:\DVD\Projects\Das_Boot_VTS_01_PGC1\Das_Boot_1.mkv" " for splitting
07:46:48: Done.

Also - this is probably a VDubMod issue - the language settings for ogg audio tracks (a highly valued feature btw) are not respected in the muxed matroska file:
[...]Audio 1:
Mode: Just Mux Source File.
SourceFile: C:\DVD\Projects\Das_Boot_VTS_01_PGC1\Das_Boot Track 3 Deutsch DELAY 0ms.ogg
[...]
OggLanguage: German
[...]
Audio 2:
Mode: Just Mux Source File.
SourceFile: C:\DVD\Projects\Das_Boot_VTS_01_PGC1\Das_Boot Track 2 English DELAY 0ms.ogg
[...]
OggLanguage: English
Both tracks are labelled English in the resulting mkv.

With kind regards,
Thoralf.

To work properly, I'll have to change, for EACH language, the comment code(ie german: AddComment 0x00010092,"","German").
If it's really a VDM issue I don't want to do that now.

BUG: extra added filters are not shown in compressiability test edit options when trim is set to "both" !!! .The problem is the that plugins are not loaded, however cmd lines are present.

By the way, i fixed some bugs "around" viewing .avs scripts and saving .avs files (filename was not properly changed: ..\---.avs, ..\---_credits.avs, ..\lastcompcheck.avs, when changing trim mode and editing compressibility script).

With mkvmerge being the most sophisticated app to mux Matroska at the moment, why not using it instead of vdm? Or would that be too much of an architectural change?

Switching to mkvmerge would solve not only the language comments issue, but the file splitting one as well :-)

@ len0x:

I recall you asking about the OGM calculator earlier,
and mentioning you have an alternative algorithm for calculation:

Well, 20+ files encoded, all OGM & closest to target with:
AVI+cbrMP3+frames=3+calculate frame overhead unticked.

With OGM+Vorbis audio checked, i've been hitting around ~400kb with 20-30mb files (5-10min),
haven't tested with a movie yet.

0.32 in use

EDIT:
calculate frame overhead UNticked was what i meant to write, not ticked...

Would it be possible to implement muxing of vobsub generated subtitles into matroska container? I know that mkv right now is the only container which allows this (correct me if I'm wrong, but ogg only allows srt, right?), but it would be really cool, to really only have one file (especially without ocr'ing subs first) which contains everything. Right now I use mkvmerge (gui) and it does an excellent job so far :-)

Thanks in advance
Randi

niamh
23rd July 2004, 23:28
GK uses virtualdubmod, which doesn't implement that, I'm afraid .... So for all the cool mkv stuff like mp4 AAC, we're "stuck" with mkvmerge ;)
Now if GK could come bundled with mkvmerge, that'd be awesome, but I'm afraid it may be out of the question for the devs, they said they didn't have too much time for GK ... there is an app that uses mkvmerge(and more) that's called RIPP-IT am ...... it's french, but there is an english language file with it.I've never actually made an encode with it, and I can't tell you how good it is... GK is enough for me, and the external muxing is no big deal really.

Randi
24th July 2004, 00:31
thanks for the quick answer! So I should bother the devs of vdubmod? ;-) (do they read in here also?)
BTW why does ogg not allow image based subs? Do you know this? I searched for quite a while, but didnt find anything. And what about mp4?
I know, lots of questions, but any answer is really appreciated.

Cheers
Randi

Hehe, bother the devs of vdubmod if you want ;) I'm quite sure they know all about it already...no need for gknot especially to use aac.
As for ogm I haven't a clue, but since it isn't developed anymore, I fail to see the advantage over matroska in this case(or any)
mp4 should accept anything that's Mpeg4 compliant

@tHe gLouCh,

I updated the xml files (AviSynth):

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/avisynth2

(browsing CVS doesn't work at the moment). Update log:

- updated internal AviSynth filters: core.xml (upto AviSynth_290704-2.exe)
- added coresyntax.xml (filters which return not a clip; not ready yet, but it's a bit boring to finish it).
- updated/added many external plugin xml descriptions

I also updated the english chm file (in AVSEdit\help). Might be useful, since it contains the complete description of all filters.

First of all, the beta version looks really promising with both OGM, MKV, and Vorbis support. Adding chapters to OGM and MKV is nice. And also the new job control is great.

I tested in particular on MKV containers (since that's new) with XVid101 (and calculating Average Bitrate).

1) The only real bug I found is with the new Job Control. In a particular situation, the job being encoded as shown in the 'Job Window' on the left doesn't match with the actual job being encoded as shown in the 'Queue Window' on the right, i.e. 'Job Window' shows job 4 is being encoded, while the 'Queue Window' shows job 3 is being encoded. See screenshot.
http://piscator.hopto.org/gknot-bug.jpg
I got this situation as follows:
a) I added two jobs.
b) Job 1 had an error in the AVS script (edited it myself and made a stupid mistake  ). Job 1 terminated and to my suprise it was not deleted from the job and queue list (nice!). Job 2 started and I corrected the AVS for job 1.
c) added 3 new jobs (total 5 now).
d) After job 2 finished, the 'Job Window' shows job 3 is being encoded, while job 1 (with corrected AVS) is being encoded in 'Queue Window'.
e) after this, a mismatch.
[*EDIT:
f) After job 5 finishes, GKnot crashes with an exception 'List Index out of bounds(5)' (already suspected this could happen). Job 1 in 'Jobs Window' remains unencoded. And pressing 'Start encoding' after crash tells 'Currently encoding Job 6', which doesn't exist.
*END EDIT]

2) robot4rip seems to be missing from the GKnot setup package. btw, the new directory structure with each app in a separate directory is much clearer. I know, I look too much on details :D.

3) After setting up GKnot with the desired XviD first-pass and second pass settings. Going through the 'Save & Encode' thing. In the window right before you start your encode, you can check/set your XviD settings again. The encoding type for XviD first-pass shows 'single pass' instead of 'two pass-1st pass'.

The rest of the things are just minor UI things or conveniences.
4) When loading chapters, open the 'File Selection box' in the same directory as the d2v-file and not in the last selected directory (make it the same as for opening Audio).

5) After selecting the 'Audio Source file', make the profile remember which audio type you used last for that profile instead of always selecting Vorbis automatically. Or better, make it match the audio type you selected in the 'Bitrate tab'. Also for vorbis the correspondence between selected audio bitrate in the 'Bitrate' tab and the 0.200 value is a bit cryptic.

6) Make also a 'delete intermediate files' option other than for DivX with credits (to delete *Movie.avi/ogm/mkv after muxing).

The last one is a personal preference and I don't know if others find it useful. If not, forget it.
7) I often have PAL DVD sources (especially for TV series) that appear interlaced, but are just phase-shifted. A simple Telecide(order=1,post=0,guide=2) solves that. Would be nice to have that in the UI under Field Operations.

Finally, the resulting MKV's work perfectly, are right on the estimated file size and play well on my stand-alone xbox.

I use the last Gknot 0.32 and chapter information muxing for ogm.

But with french chapter with character like "éè¨^à", after encoding chapter name appear truncated:

exemple "générique" appear "g"
"nouveau né" appaear "nouveau n"

with oggmux i never see this problem.

Anyone have an idea

im not sure if this is the right place to post this but i think its a bug

i had a look theru the posts and couldnt see anything that matched this.. sorry if ive missed something..

a week or so ago i tried encoding a movie (pratical magic aussie version) with GK 0.28.7 and rip pack 1.6 with xvid 1.0.1, all other parts standard as in package...

when i came to the bit where besweet transcoded the AC3 to MP3 it did 35 secs and crash.. so i updated to 0.32 beta from the SF project page and tried again... this time it compleated but the mp3 file was said (by winamp and another prog) to be ABR of 32 or so bits and only played for about 15 mins and stopped.. the end resulting movie had out of sync audio that only played for 15mins and the video kept pausing...

the vobs played file off my HD so i put it down to something weird in the files or something and gave up..

but today it happened again with Jason And The Argonauts in just the same way..

there were no errors in the logs or anything out of the ordinary.. besweet ran for the full time expected and the mp3 file came out the right size.. just its a bit buggered..

last night i encoded The Man Who Sued God fine...

Jason and the argonauts is PAL 4:3 and interlaced and has dolby digital stereo sound.. MWSG was 16:9 progressive, DD 5.1

if theres any other info you need ill try and get it..

edit: i just transcoded the AC3 for jason to mp3 by hand (but i dunno if i did it the same as GK cos i have no idea how to use besweet) and got a working CBR 128bit mp3... so i can now add that to the movie file, but it doesnt help me understand why besweet screwed up before..

heres the besweet log from the successful run..

From my point of view, it is a good idea to do the muxing in a separate step, since VDubMod (which GKnot uses) is not very good at muxing non-avi containers at the moment. It doesn't get language flags right, it can't cope with special chars etc.
Just use dedicated apps like OggMux for ogm or mkvmerge for Matroska, and everything will work out fine.

I have a suggestion. instead of having checkboxes in the queue window just have it so it performs the actions for the highlighted ones. for some reason the checkboxes don't work quite the way it should be....aka it doesn't move the queued file I want, deletes the wrong ones and is generally confusing.

Q: are there any plans to integrate OGM and MKV auto muxing into Gknot.
Q: any chance of adding .aac support?

just a quick Q (hope i haven't missed anything obvious :D):

is there a summary of which avisynth filter versions are used in the package i was jsut reading up about the MMX optimized version of KernelDeint (at version 1.5.1 atm) and somehow didn't find a quick way to check if that was the version i am using with the latest gknot beta?!

there is no such list, but I can tell you that pack contains 1.4.0 of KernelDeInt.

great thx, any problems to be expected if i manually update to 1.5.1 ?!

oh, and wouldn't it be a good idea to create such a list? wouldn't be too much work i guess and might be helpful for a reference for more advanced users...

If someone has spare time to create such a list - be my guest :)

There is no problem using 1.5.1.

actually, i am having problems with the new version. whatever i'm doing wrong, but i get a greenish stripe on the right side of the video, about 20px in width... ?!?

the same problem does not exist with kerneldeint 1.4.0 or Fielddeinterlace(blend=false)

gonna post over in the kerneldeint thread in the avisynth forum and report back any results asap

I guess that the width of your video is not mod 4? Regardless, you should post it in the KD thread.

i figured it out... i cropped before deinterlacing... and although i used gknot to find the crop values (so they were mod 32 and 16) it somehow screwed up the results. moving cropping past deinterlacing solved the problem...

You got me worried there :)

P.S. Crop has to be mod 4 for both dimensions to work properly and then you should be able to deinterlace after crop...

Sorry if it's been asked before, but how can I mux an ac3 file with an I/L value of, let's say, 96 or 128 ms? I thought that I could use a value of 3.2 frames (128 ms/40) but it's not possible...
Bye, and thanks.

you can't...
