I found the bug.
It has to do with the ".srt file": even if you don't select a file in the "Subtitles" tab, GK try to mux an .srt file (funny name) in the final movie (made myself clear ?). You can see that immediatly if in the Queue window you have a "o MuxAudio & AddSrt" job.
Bug is fixed now :).

I'm almost finished building new GK pack which will have updated tools and different directory structure. I have to sort out Docs folder and then we'll have a base pack for all alphas (so that updates will be really small).

Runnin MKV tests, I noted that CoreMediaPlayer or MPC cannot play an MKV file with 2 Audio streams & 1 srt Stream !! Is that normal ?
Does somebody knows which program to use to play those files ?

If you delete registry keys (as GK was just installed) and then launch GK you will never be able to open any files since variable which holds DGDecode.dll value will not be initilized (coz registry is empty), so you have to close GK and start it again.

Also as far as I can see that check box with "use alternative mpeg2dec3 dll" can be removed at all since we always use alternative dll and just a label saying "MPEG2 decoding library" would do just fine.

--> len0x:
Since you're doing installation tests, do the "Choose Language" box working on first launch of program?

PS: I have rectified the "dgdecode.dll" bug and removed the checkbox too.

it sure isn't :) the matroska stuff has a nasty tendency to be overwritten regularly, so it could be your issue ...reinstall the splitter and whatever else you need on top works fine.

if i select inverse telecine in the advanced avs window, the resulting script[Telecide(guide=1).Decimate(5)] doesn't include the field order at all, so if you don't know/forget you need to set it manually in the script, you get a vdub error straight away :)Maybe i missed where to set it,i've seen nothing obvious for it, save editing the script
(the older versions of GK had order=1 as default AFAIK, and so does the normal avs window, where selecting IVTC in the box returns the script [Telecide(order=1,guide=1).Decimate()] )

and thanks again for all that incredibly fast work :):)

edit: yikes, i forgot about a little typo..in the prepare box of the advanced avs, it's commented that
"If DVD2AVI showed your source as NTSC FILM below 95% you enable Inverse Telecine
here. In all other cases set Field Operations to None."
you typed below instead of over :)

sometimes i had the srt thing showing in the old alphas, but i was using avis so i guess gk didnt try that hard then.
anyway - glad its fixed now.

Hi,

Sorry it was late and I made an error, I apologize. I entered the bitrate instead of putting quantizer 2 for the compressibility test.

However I still get higher scores:

- Divx 56%
- Xvid 75.5%

Is it normal to get such a difference?

Yeah, I can confirm that. I had just one audio stream and no subtitles, GKnot tried to mux non-exisiting subs.
Also thank you very much for fixing the error message on exit ... I really appreciate your efforts.

Another one:

GKnot doesn't seem to be aware changes concerning zones in the Xvid configuration window. After adding zones and closing the window, these changes are gone when pressing the codec settings button again.

And the last one for now:

If Gknot is minimized to the system tray, double-clicking its icon also restores the application next to the GKnot icon (task manager, for instance).

That's all for the time being, I promise I won't file my next error report until next week or so :-))

With kind regards,
Thoralf.

Works perfectly fine here, I'm using Zoom Player and the latest matroska DS splitter.

i guess you have a pretty heavy double-click because i dont have that problem here.

however sometimes explorer crashes and the said icon disappears which makes it impossible to bring gk up again.
could it be at least an option to minimize to the taskbar? it sometimes is annoying when an encode is well under way and will end during the night, but as i forgot to check the shutdown thing my noisy computer will continue to offend my ears until morning, and i cant check it, because gk is unreachable.
yes, there are worse situations in life. but hey, it would be a little nicer.
thank you

niamh does a little jig on the spot :D:D

no more trying to restore GK before the tray is totally gone!
(though it can be a funny reflex game, if you have nothing else to do ;) )

a tiny little other thing i saw is in the normal avs window, if you select IVTC (again, i know ;) ), then close the project, and then reopen another one, the ivtc warning pops up before you can actually open the d2v, let alone setting up whatever filters....
that does not happen with the new avs window, only the usual one.

I usually try to maintain a decent relationship with my apps (based on mutual respect), there is no reason for me double-clicking them heavily :-)

The problems seems to be caused by the GKnot icon disappearing from the system tray right before the program is actually restored. The clicks get passed to the icon to the left of the GKnot icon. Maybe making the icon disappear after the program pops would help ... Or not letting the icon disappear at all.
Anyway, I'm a bit surprised that noone else is experiencing this issue, since I'm not running tons of unusual shell enhancements on my machine.

now that i am reassured by your software-related morals, i can admit that it happens to me from time to time, but in that case i try to refrain my clicking impulses without blaming gk! shame on you mister! shame on you!

So if you set CreditsStart to 0 then zone2 is removed !
But maybe it's not a good idea.
I can remove that, but ppl must change manually the CreditsStart in codec settings !!

I like fiddling around with zones, especially when doing backups of longer movies on 1 CD. Every bit counts in these scenarios ...
Maybe adding an advanced zone configuration option (ltting the user decide what zones to set up how) would help, but then again, this would probably make things even more complex.

Possible reasons I can think of:
- issues with vsfilter.ax
- wrong overlay settings
- I read somewhere that TCMP comes with its own internal matroska splitters. Disabling them and using the Direct Show version could also help ...

However, this is most probably an issue caused by TCMP and not by the Matroska filters.

new XviD is indeed much more compressible. Did you use bframes ? If yes, then how many? If more than one then result of comptest can be not that reliable. If you didn't use b-frames then I found a bug which resulted in less accuracy as well in those cases (fixed).

@ tHe gLouCh

I agree with thoralf(got those very 2 issues myself), your best bet is to uninstall the core player, reinstall it, without any extra support (it gave me tons of problems too), reinstall vobsub 2.23, and make sure it's the latest vsfilter(older vsfilter.dll had issues with subtitles in matroska (my vsfilter.dll is dated 08/03/2004, and that works), and then lastly reinstall the matroska muxer, splitter and so on...if you use the matroska pack v.1.0.2, the correct vsfilter is included in the installer :)
now that should sort you out, and TCMP will still be able to render matroska files, at least it does on my system.

can't wait for the new build :)

UNINSTALL all other versions of GK and DELETE registry settings.
All the programs inside the pack are upto date, but R4R is gone for good.

Please test this build in the next 24 hours and if nothing major found for installer then I'll move this to SF as is it too heavy to host on the same site as AutoGK :)

@tHe gLouCh

I have a few more ''gripes'' with the advanced avs window :)
( the add filter window is awesome btw, and to have all the comments even for the custom filters is impressive, truly :))
I don't know all the filters well, so I can only speak for the filters I know, here goes:

-tomsmocomp and greedyHMA comments say they have bottom field first set by default. They haven't, they're set on top field first in GK.(first parameter in script =1)

-decomb: the comments and settings are entirely about decimate. But decomb includes telecide as well(and mainly), I can't find a way to set my various telecide guides there, mainly the PAL guidance one that I use a lot. The only way I can seem to do that is edit the script manually, but then, it doesn't save to the ini file :(. I know you're not helped by the fact decomb does everything except the dishes :D, but I for one would dearly love to be able to set telecide there, with all its awesome options.

-convolution3D: it's slightly confusing there...it has convolution3D, and convolutionYV12, both called ''convolution3D''(but the "usual" c3d, the yv12, is under no category, whereas the other one is under the category''noise'') under filter name. Is there a use for convolyuy2 in GK? I think(I may be wrong) we just about all use the YV12 version, so _maybe_ call this one convolution3D and the other one by another name? besides I can't find a way(i'm not saying it can't be done, just I can't see how to do it) to enter all the other presets, the default and only preset being only ''movieHQ''.It would be GREAT to have them preset there or have a foolproof way to add them(this is selfish, because I use them all the time :) )

here are the presets with their values:
Convolution3d (matrix, ythresh, cthresh, t_ythresh, t_cthresh, influence, debug)
Convolution3d (preset="movieHQ") // Movie Hi Quality (good DVD source)
is an alias for Convolution3D (0, 3, 4, 3, 4, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3d (preset="movieLQ") // Movie Low Quality (noisy DVD source)
is an alias for Convolution3D (0, 6, 10, 6, 8, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3d (preset="animeHQ") // Anime Hi Quality (good DVD source)
is an alias for Convolution3D (0, 6, 12, 6, 8, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3d (preset="animeLQ") // Anime Low Quality (noisy DVD source)
is an alias for Convolution3D (1, 8, 16, 8, 8, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3d (preset="animeBQ") // Anime Bad Quality (???)
is an alias for Convolution3D (1, 12, 22, 8, 8, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3d (preset="vhsBQ") // VHS capture Bad Quality (???)
is an alias for Convolution3D (0, 32, 128, 16, 64, 10, 0)

the fact that I use convolution3D all the time leads me to another little problem I encountered:
if I select "little noise" , say, in the options box, I get the 3 filters options, all fine...if I want to , for example, add convolution3D("movieHQ") to temporal soften (with little noise values), I can't! :D (not easily anyway)
these are my choices in that case:
1)I go to options , and select "medium noise" (because that's where c3d is stashed) >> I then get a warning that my filter box is full, do I want to erase it? if I erase it, I lose temporalsoften(example), but if I click cancel, it doesnt write c3d to the script. I can then do 2:
2)I can type c3d and parameters manually in the script, not much hassle, but then it won't appear in the ini file, so I'm going to have to do this manually every time :) or I can do 3:
3)I can go to add filters, but then the only preset I have is movie HQ...I'm left to change that manually after, if I want to use LQ, or an anime setting, and back to 2)
4) I could edit the ini file manually, but that defeats the purpose of the whole advanced thing, doesn't it? :)

Anyway, this would apply to all filters that are stored under different noise levels, the only way it seems to add them together is to manually edit the presets or the defaults :)

And please do tell me to go away if you have enough ;)

@niamh

1) First of all, the avisynth filters descriptions is not my work at all but were taken from the AVSEdit CVS on sourceforge www.avisynth.org (http://www.avisynth.org). We must thanks Dolemite, seewen, and Wilbert for their descriptions !!!
So if you want to work on those descriptions, contact them please.

2) I don't think you're using well the SAVEAvs window :).
First, on the "Prepare" tab, "Noise Filter" is here as a layout for your future work and to respect compatibility with "old" SaveAvs. Nothing more.

You must use .ini files!!

For example, you choose to add those filters in the Check ListBox (items checked or unchecked):

x RESIZING -->
x Temporalsoften(2,3,3,mode=2,scenechange=6)
x mergechroma(blur(1.3))
x FluxSmooth(5,7)
x Undot()
Save this set to file (GK_Little.ini for example). And next time all you have to do is open the file. All is saved to file.

Much better, you can add the SAME filter (with different parameters) on the set and check ONLY the one you want to use:

x Temporalsoften(3,5,5,mode=2,scenechange=10)
x RESIZING -->
Convolution3d("moviehq")
x Convolution3D (0, 3, 4, 3, 4, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3D (0, 6, 10, 6, 8, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3D (0, 6, 12, 6, 8, 2.8, 0)
Convolution3D (1, 8, 16, 8, 8, 2.8, 0)

Save your set to .ini using Save and name it for example "GK_C3D_Filters.ini".

Now each time you will load this .ini file, you shall be able to check/uncheck a convolution3D set...

And when you click on the "Script" tab you can see directly your changes on the script.

I have some problem with english language. Hope I made myself clear

niamh
10th June 2004, 21:02
you were clear :)
I've no problem editing the ini file myself, and I will do that!( I'm just going to stuff in my asynther template, and get an excellent free GUI for it:) )
Thanks very much for writing this down though, it wasn't totally obvious it was the thing we should do in the first place.

As for the descriptions, I certainly never said they were wrong as such(they are not), but the GK automated script does put top field first by default, as opposed to using the filter defaults. So it's not wrong but it can be confusing for some users in this case.
And as for decomb,a bit must have got lost on the way, because it does include telecide+decimate(and field deinterlace(full=false)), and I can only see the decimate part of it :)

For what it's worth, I've been using Gknot to make avis, besweet/nero to make AAC and then muxing them into an MKV with MMG/mkvtoolnix for a few months now... for overhead calcuation it's quite simple: 0. :) Resulting file usually is 0.5-1mb under target size, which winds up working well if you throw in a subtitle stream too.

R4R produces a now incompatible .d2v project file, as the .d2v file structure changed between DVD2AVI and DGIndex.

Realize that Gknot and AutoGK are encoding suites, dependant upon a number of 3rd party tools. It is impossible to integrate everything in a constantly changing toolset environment.

1- It not passing 24 hours (mutch more, sory), and is not a bug, but i had verified, the title bar gk window thay say "Gordian Knot 0.2.9 alpha".
I think is was "... 0.29". Arenīt?

Actually I wanna scrap the whole 0.29.x build versioning idea and make normal increments like 0.30, 0.31... for the next builds.

2- When install VobSub it blocked in final process. It may EndTask to finish installing GK.

Did not get it - who blocked what? I have no problem installing vobsub.

3- Docs Folders not exist, its forever?

Yep. docs are moved to each application folder and 0.27 docs are finally removed.

Anyway this build is up at sourceforge.

Good idea! It'll be nice to get back to normal version numbers, IMHO.
