acidsex..

I've got a HS2 and an E20. The problem is that the VRO files and it's IFO are NOT compatible with any existing rippers, there are none out that that actually understand the VRO format (that I've found).

Here's what I've been doing...

put it on a DVD-RAM disc, take it ti a PC with either a LF-D211 or 311 drive and use the utility that comes with the drive to extract the VRO to the (NTFS if >2gb) Drive. You can then use Womble MPEG2VCR and open the VRO file like it was a straight MPEG2 file, edit as necessary and write it back out to the (NTFS if > 2gb) HD.

That's where I would like to see an enhancement to DVD2ONE, that it could swallow a plain MPEG2 file and do it's magic without the IFO problem. Just read'em in, squeeze'em, write'em out...

i didnt receive any utiltiy with my drive to extract the vro. I just copied them off the dvdram drive to a directory on my hardrive. what is the name of the utility and where can I get it?

SciFer

That would be a great idea. Althought I'm not betting that it will ever do that, but hopeful.

Rombaldi - By the way I haven't heard of Womble MPEG2VCR, is that a basic tool found everywhere? I should look before I ask but I figured I'd ask anyways. Thanks

I hear that recently the site of DVD2one is working again... Any idea when the new version will be available?

Confirm! Took a DVD+RW to a store a few days ago, had 30 min of LOTR on it. Was skipping through like crazy. Thought it to be the DVD+RW, since another +R (cce) worked. Thanks for making me aware of it.

What do I expect? Easy. CCE quality. Or even a bit less, but i sure as hell dont expect the background to look like its attempting to make morse code.

Do YOU expect that when you reencode? Odd.

If you are expecting CCE quality why don't you stick to CCE?
Why is it that every time some new software comes out CCE freaks have to flush it down the toilet. The truth is if your wife can't see the difference there is a possibility, it's only in your mind.

I agree with Gampt.
DVD2ONE is quite an Innovation for a 94k program.
After using the excellent programs like Ifoedit, scenarist, TMPGEnc, smartripper, rempeg, subripper, and dvddecrypter for a long time, DVD2ONE looks very good on pc and my sony ns400.
I would like to see the application to be able to do
multiple titles as the author has in hope for future versions.

By the way, the author states not to use NERO to burn.
Having used both Prassi and Nero with good results, is anyone having problems with the Nero software? (current version 5.5.10):)

GAK,
The big issue is Nero defaults to ISO mode where most DVD's are UDF. You can force this with Nero, but it's more reliable (and automatic) with Prassi PrimoDVD. Prassi also checks the structure of the VIDEO_TS folder before burning.

While it may work on your current DVD player, I doubt it will be the last DVD player you own. 'Might as well burn it right! ;)

Well, I went an purchased DVD2ONE - the site is working again - and I still get a "encrypted data" error that stops the program. So, looks like I blew $40 for nothing (that's $60 Canadian). =)

I just can't believe I'm the only person having a problem.

I've tried ripping with DVDdecrypter, in File/Ifo/and Image mode. Also tried Smartripper. Is there another ripping tool I could try? Tried 2 DVDs, same error. Error doesn't always come up in the same place or same VOB even on the same rip.

is there a program that can rip vobs stored on the hard drive so that it can create the list for dvd2one read for its trasncoding? smartripper is one i havent had success with. any others?

perhaps even a way to create a virtual dvdrom drive and dump the 13 gig files to the virtual drive and have smartripper rip it from there.

any advice? womble mpeg2vcr is too expensive.

Goldfinger_007

you can use IMGtool to create an image of the vob files

'Daemon Tools' can be used to mount images, to act as a virtual drive

I'm trying smartripper again with CSS check at every chapter to see if that makes a difference.

You have to be doing something wrong.. I've not had one problem with this program except for transcoding quality... but even then it still works.

maybe your pointing the source on the dvd not the HD

Raedon, beleive me I want this to work.

I'm not pointing at the DVD. I use a directory called 'rip' and I don't think there's one like that on the DVD itself. I've also taken the DVD out of the drive. And I tried ripping as an image and pointing to the mounted image as well.

I updated my aspi drivers. I've tried DVDdecrypter and Smartripper. Decrypter has always worked for me in the past, just no with this program.

When Smartripper is running I see two boxes that are labled unencrypted blocks and encrypted blocks. I haven't used Smartripper before, is it normal for there to be a large number of encrypted blocks?

How about someone walking me through a click by click setup for ripping with Smartripper or DVDdecrypter for DVD2ONE?

I even tried letting DVD2SVCD rip the Vobs and got the same error.

Is there a way I can remove any remaining encryption once the rip is done? Maybe run the vobs through IFOedit?

I'm dying here, and having to re-rip this DVD over and over is getting me down =( takes 45minutes to rip.

Thanks for any help.

Is the trial version supposed to jump from one track to the other? I get about a second's worth of video and then it jumps from one track to the next... I know it one does 30 min of video but should it not just show 30 min's worth of a ripped movie staight through?

Hi int 21

How would you describe a DVD movie made with a bitrate of 400kbps instead of the more common 6000 avg. ?

I would say a bit blocky, wouldn't you ? What kind of blocks is it ? Can you explain for me and others. I have clearly missed something when you say you can go down in bitrate and have the same macroblock size. Is it that the blocks all looks the same, when you go down in bitrate, and when they are near each other forms like a big block with the same color and information ?

Radioman: you and int21 may begin to argue pointlessly over this. Please keep all flaming away from this thread (please carry on privately if necessary). And int21 is correct encoded macroblocks are always the same size, but the appearance of "macroblocking" (an unfortunate phrasing, i.e. the obvious visible "line" between macroblocks) does obviously occur more at lower bitrates and cause the same size blocks to kind of "blend".
I feel dvd2one, after slight bug fixing, will be quite revolutionary, and seeing this is the main thread for it please everyone keep it clean and on topic.

Hi all. Have joined in the testing of this fascinating utility. Have used it to get good working copies of LOTR and Goldmember.

However, when I applied DVD2One to SW EpisodeII VOBS which had been stripped of all sound except the primary AC3 track, the final total for the files was 4.7GB, too big for one DVD-R. I don't have the original VOBS, so cannot check if pre-stripping the sound has caused this. I used Smartripper to rip the original VOBS, then IFOEdit to strip the unwanted sound tracks. I know you would not normally use DVD2One this way, but thought the result may be of interest.

Any comments?.

I agree with Nic though, this tool will be revolutionary depending on how the author improves upon it, and depending on what Pinnacle releases...

Sounds like some sort of a bug, try the same procedure on a different title and let us know what happens, if you replicate the problem on a different title, I'd let the author know about it.

I still can't get DVD2ONE to work. Same problem with "encrypted data" as stated earlier. I've gone and re-installed my old DVD-ROM and tried ripping from that to see if it made a difference. No luck.

I've even let DVD2SVCD rip the vobs with its internal tools and DVD2ONE tells me these are encrypted as well. Am I correct in assuming that DVD2SVCD decrypts as well as rips?

I've done many rips with DVDdecrypter and Smartripper, and never had a problem doing conversions with TMPGEnc...

I've tried re-installing the ripping programs and updating my ASPI drivers. I'm really at a loss here.

I'm running WinXP HOME on an Athalon T-bird 900, with a 30 gig drive and a pioneer DVD-r 104...I've since put my old ASUS DVD rom back in the system and my CD/RW drive as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about a 4.4 GB limit. I just did the follwoing this evening with DVD2one:

"We were soldiers" movie.. DVD Decrypter in FILE mode. Copied some extras, and incuded the VIDEO_TS.IFO file.. always.. ALWAYS incude this one.

after having created folders of SOLDIERS_BURN and put in there 2 folders in caps.. VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS I started DVD2one
chose the folder I just ripped using DVD Decrypter.. which was, by the way, 6,071,500,800 bytes big. chose main movie, English and angle 1, and sent to my VIDEO_TS folder in the above SOLDIER_BURN folder.

about 20 minutes later were done. Close program. Open IFO edit. Go to new VIEO_TS folder just filled with the new files. Choose VIDEO_TS.IFO and load. Click "Get VTS Sectors" and it does but nothing out of place ... seems DVD2one did the repointing on the fly. Clicked on the main IFO file and clicked Region Free.. then after the regions are done (all regions) I click "save" and save as VIDEO_TS.IFO close IFOEDIT program.

Open Nero 5.5.10.0 burn program. Choose UDF. give name. click new. click and put the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS foler into my new compilation. Looks like it wont burn.. right at the end of the limit. BURNS great! Plays GREAT!! file side of the VIDEO_TS folder after DVD2one done is now 4,690,313,212 bytes. So it goes past the 4.3 GB limit with Nero.

Also did Matrix last night.. same results.. FULL DVD burned right to the Max! plays Beautifully. Plays in several set top DVDs. i've used DVD2one to make 12 movies in 3 days to single DVD5 discs

NO COASTERS! NO REGRETS in buying software.. All I want is to watch the movie, and nothing more.

Just another little note: I have the seting in DVD Decrypter set to my WinASPI32 Xp 4.71.1 layer instead of the default. for what it's worth. Also I have checked main movie. When it chooses maine movie i include some of the smaller files near the top.. ie. VIDEO_TS.IFO, some same number series VOB and such. DVD2one will use what it wants. I really don't copy the whole movie to hard drive as that take a bit of time to do such a thing. I've burned a full movie from start (ripping) to watching the finished burned movie in 87 minutes.. not bad for an old geezer, huh? I'm pushing 50. *S*

Intersting. original files are sometims thigns like VTS_04_02.VOB and so on.. and when done they are now VTS_01_02.VOB Seems it rebuilds and starts from the beginning in numbering.

Don't use cheap media! Don't use CMC media from Taiwan use good DVD5 media and you won't regret buying quality.

Ive just used the full version of DVD2One on Perfect Storm and Oceans Eleven, both of which took less than 20 minutes. Burnt to Neo Premium 2x DVD's with Nero using standard DVD settings on a Pioneer 104. Tried on my XWave Player and 36 inch Hitachi using component connectors. The results are superb.

This thread spends a long time comparing the proverbial Mini (DVD2One) and the Rolls Royce (CCE). Well if this is what the Mini can do, I cant wait for the Mini Cooper to be released, which I understand will be a free upgrade!!

This does not take anything away from the Rolls Royce which is unbeatable for weddings and special occassions, but I think the Mini is more practical for everyday occassions.

This is a damned good program which I am proud to add to my collection. Its worth every penny in my opinion.

I just backed up Tombstone - Widescreen, using a combination of DVD2One, Ifoupdate and IfoEdit.

Tombstone has three audio streams, DD, DTS and DD with commentary. I ripped out DTS and all subtitles except english with IfoEdit to give DVD2One plenty of space to work.

Used DVD2One to compress main movie to close to 4.36GB. Then removed Audio commentary track to give me more room to put menus and second VTS set back (it only has two VTS sets). Used Ifoupdate to fix IFO files and merge back together. Removed a couple FBI warnings and some other doodads with IfoEdit.

Final result? DVD came really close to 4,700,000 bytes and works perfectly minus the DTS audio track. I can't tell the difference on my 36" TV.

Unless I get an 8GB movie that can't be made smaller with IfoEdit, to below 6GB or so, I'll use DVD2One from now on instead of CCE/Maestro. All the author needs to do is fix some of the shimmering/pixel problems (which wasn't present on Tombstone). I tried to do the same with "Leon" but the result had that issue. Funny how some discs are fine, and some just don't work. Hopefully a bug fix is on its way.

I've ripped three Disney movies, ranging from 4.6GB to 5.5GB. All look great, as good as my usual re-encoding with TMPGenc Plus. No pulsating backgrounds.

Someone mentioned this briefly in the thread, but it is pretty straightforward to use IMGtool to produce an image file, which can then be burned with DVD Decrypter. The general approach is to create a movie folder, with subfolders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS, put the output of DVD2ONE into the VIDEO_TS folder. Then use IMGTool to make a virtual drive, and turn that virtual drive into an image file, which can be burned using the write command in DVD Decrypter. More details are at

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/ifoedit-finalprocedures.htm

This works great (zero failures for me), involves free tools, and minimizes the number of tools you are using.

This program is really fantastic. I've made AKIRA and all is perfect (chapters, different audio streams, subtitles).

I only see one problem with this program: DVD2ONE fix the result really close to 4,700,000 bytes. A size option will be very usefull. With 4,700,000 bytes you can't add menus, extras, etc, using IFOupdate.

Congratulations to the developers.

I guess you haven't read the other big thread on DVD2One in DVD burning forum. Depending on how many audio and subtitles you have to strip out after DVD2One, you possibly can keep your menu(no bonus materials)with a little extra work. Read my posts and others in this link.

Hi, 2COOL: :)

Yes, I've read your post and it's very usefull. But in many DVD's I need to keep all the audio tracks. In this particular case (AKIRA) the menu is only 300 MB and no bonus... and I can't add them!!! ;)

The "SIZE BUTTON" in DVD2ONE will be very usefull for others types of DVD authoring. For example: You can add a dubbed audio track from your VHS tapes; make your own complilation with the best episodes of your favorites TV series ripped from your DVD's (DVD2ONE doesn't compress anything if the size is less than 4.3 GB )

Anyway I still think that DVD2ONE is a fantastic tool.

Thank you very much for your help, 2COOL

I know all the "purists" will sniff and bash the usefulness of this software, but being a newbie, I'm thrilled with it.
1. It has given me some success after struggling to learn and apply the jillions of hours of reading and experimenting with all manner of software, with no true success yet.

2. Stuck with W98, it allows me to backup any dvd9 to a dvd5-r.

3. Its' quality is mediocre with some scenes of some DVD's and unbelievable with some other titles.

Now I feel good about this wonderful endeavor, and will continue to pursue it, upgrading to XP, using and crafting backups with the multitude of tools at hand, but for now, DVD2ONE is KING!!!

Some people on here are perhaps getting the wrong end of the stick with DVD2One. I believe that its target audience is not the tech-heads who re-encode everything in CCE and who dedicate hours/days of CPU time to getting a good rip. The intended audience is the less techno-literate who've just bought DVD burners and want to rip discs with the minimum of effort.

I don't rip movies, personally. I've never felt the need to master the Robshot method, or whatever. I treat my discs with care and have no real need to "back up" DVDs. But this 94K program sounded unbelievable, so I gave it a whirl with my new R1 copy of The Bourne Identity, stripping everything except the M2V and the AC3.

The result? Yes the picture is visibly inferior to the original disc. But not to anywhere near the point where my enjoyment of the film was compromised. Considering the fact that only three tools are used (DVD Decrpyter, DVD2One and the burning tool) DVD2One is an incredible achievement that will do extremely well to a different kind of audience than the average Doom9 user.

However, I'm sure that the comments and criticisms on this board will be taken on board by the programmer in order to improve his code, which is obviously a good thing for all concerned.

You are absolutely right. All you pay is $43 -- and you don't even need an authoring program. Even the cheap ones are expensive and don't get me started on how much Scenarist and CCE costs...

If all you want to do is make sure that your kids can watch "Harry Potter" 500 times while dropping the disc and picking it up with their greasy kid-fingers -- this is perfect. Make the copy, lock up the original, and let 'em abuse it to their heart's desire... If it breaks, just make another copy on a $1.00 DVD-R!

I personally spent my money on DVD2ONE because it is an innovative piece of software, and the way you make sure it keeps coming is by buying it.

@waldok:

When you buy a Movie. You are not buying only a copy of the movie, you are also paying for a license that has some limitations (you can not make additional copies for sale, you cannot show it in a public or commercial place, etc.) , but also you have some rights. And one of them is that if your copy is damage you can have another copy without having to pay again for the license. Theorically, the movie studios may have to sell you another copy without charging you again the royalties. This is also the same for audio CD's and computer programs. This is like buying a car with a Taxi license, and later changing the car, you don't have to pay TWICE for the same license.
