I have found a cd that will not load.
This one: https://itunes.apple.com/dk/album/bass-power-vol.-2/id383210789
I think it's because the metadata not exist on the freedb.

No help?? Please allow a reasonable amount of time before bumping like this. Thank you.

If you are seeing "Track" etc in the list instead of artist name etc, then probably CD isn't included in freedb. Or maybe TAC doesn't have internet access but this is highly unlikely. You can however, edit tags yourself. Select all the tracks in the list and edit common tags (artist, album etc). You'll have to enter title etc separately for each track.

The cd is playable in a media player, but TAC does not load the cd.
ozok
12th April 2014, 14:40
It's possible that cd isn't included in the freedb but in other databases. Are you certain that said player uses freedb?
CarlPig
12th April 2014, 17:20
The media player i used is Media Player Classic Black Edition and VLC Media Player.
I don't think these can use freedb.
And can still not get TAC to load the cd.
But another ripper Exact Audio Copy can load the cd.

BTW why does TAC need to "decode" the audio when the source files are standard 44100/16bits WAV files ?
This issue looks to still exist.
Just to point out.
Went to compress some existing .wav with Flac & well... :-)

On startup I get:
Error: Failed to initialize CDRip (insufficient privileges?)
After the message, TAC then loads just fine.
I've modified library's source to show an error code which can help.
Error Code: 8
Error: Failed to initialize CDRip (insufficient privileges?) Error Code: 8
Possibly related, or maybe I'm just dense, but how do you get the Audio Player to play?
I've got a Pause, Stop, Timeline, & Volume, but nothing to start playback?
Yep, dense, heh.
Realized all this time I was loading videos & a double-click would then load the video in its default application.
Today, I loaded an audio file & that played as expected, using the BASS lib's & TAC's controls.
(Guess I was kind of expecting TAC to play the audio portion of a video file.)
-Added: [General] TAC will try to create temp folder at startup
Looks to be working as expected.
Thanks.

I'll investigate this error code to see if there is anything I can do about it.
ozok

I wonder if I'm getting that because I have no physical CD Drive?
Probably yes. Error code 8 is "CDEX_NOCDROMDEVICES" in cdrip.dll source.

I tried merging it worked, but it would have been better if same bitrate mp3 files were joined without re-encoding.

[ TAC(0.9.5)portable_32bit.zip ]
fdkaac.exe & sox.exe are duplicated within Tools/ffmpeg (already in Tools/fdkaac, Tools/sox).
Is that intended?

Suppose that we can assume the last selected option change to either 'Presets:' or 'Codec Options' will be what is used for the encode?
Seems that's true when alternating between those two selections.
But...
If you change the Codec:, then the settings default to those last defined/set in 'Codec Options' rather then anything else.
Suppose that is the correct behavior, just that it might not be too obvious what is occurring in that respect.
Also, if you change the Codec: & inadvertently select a Preset: that does not pertain to that codec, then the codec changes to the (I'm assuming) first codec available for the given preset.
So... just some things you need to be aware of, so that you don't end up with an mp3 when you were expecting a m4a or something like that.

I had a .wav with a sample rate of 22.05 KHz.
Noticed that when TAC (recreates) the %TMP%/*.wav, it created it at 44.1 KHz, ~doubling the sources file size.
217 MB source .wav, (temporarily) output to a 455 MB .wav
Is that needed, expected?
therube

Two consecutive encodes, no changes in settings, are not creating bit identical encodes.
There are a few (6) bytes that differ in the file headers (it seems).
Is that expected?
(I don't recall that happening in the past?)
@therube
1) You can delete those files. I probably left them there when I was testing piping (ffmpeg>sox>fdkaac) to eleminate temp wav files.
2) Presets change codec and related options. Think of it as a shortcut to changing multiple options at once. So, if you select a preset and come to codec settings, you will see the changes made by the preset. You can, of course, override these options. But when you select a preset, it will change codec and related options accordingly.
FDKAAC is used as the AAC encoder. It doesn't have any depencies AFAIK, so it is a safe choise.
3) Yes it creates temp with those specifications unless you select different parameters (higher bit depth etc). I'm aware that TAC creates temp file even if the source is pcm wav.
4) Are you sure nothing is changed? It is normal to see differences between files created by different builds of the same encoders but there shouldn't be any difference if everything is kept the same. It is possibly related to tag writing method. Are you sure that in both cases the same approach (encoder itself or ttagger as tag writing method) was selected?
therube

4) Are you sure nothing is changed?
Add a file.
Tell it to encode.
Tell it to encode.
Tell it to encode.
Tell it to encode.
AFAIK I don't have tagging or anything like that enabled, though I suppose it is some sort of meta-data being written?
http://s2.postimg.org/xhy01hot1/kitaro44.jpg (http://postimg.org/image/xhy01hot1/)
BTW, the temporary .wav files compare identically.
Encoder1 commands:
-y -i "M:\MUSIC\wav\Kitaro - KoKoro.wav" -threads 1 -vn -acodec pcm_s16le -f wav
-af aresample=resampler=soxr -ar 44100 "C:\out\TAudio\{8D9A416E-4CE2-4932-B996-2FBB6F103507}.wav"
-m 1 -p 2 -G 0 --moov-before-mdat
"C:\out\TAudio\{8D9A416E-4CE2-4932-B996-2FBB6F103507}.wav" -o "C:\out\\{E1B90C7F-7707-4B35-B7FF-25EC8ECE45EB}.m4a"
" " "C:\out\TAudio\0tag.txt" "C:\out\\{E1B90C7F-7707-4B35-B7FF-25EC8ECE45EB}.m4a"
" " "C:\out\TAudio\rename0.txt"
===========================End===========================
0tag.txt & rename0.txt are created.
0tag.txt contains all the fields, though no values, all are like "Title=".
To be honest I don't know what else can cause this. If it bothers you, you can always send samples and I can take a look :).

Ah, I see, running MediaInfo on the files, the Encode Data/Time differ.
So this must have been an "issue" all along, just noticed it before.
http://s15.postimg.org/4z35deg47/kitaro99.jpg (http://postimg.org/image/4z35deg47/full/)
Sorry for the noise.
No problem at all. I ran a few tests myself and differences were always at the same position so it had to be something like date. It's good to know that I didn't mess up something.

I have done several tests with the program.
I have identified three problems:
Problem 1:
When I codified with FDk AAC, activating either in "Gapless" "iTunSMPB" or "Both" an M4A file that plays only the left channel with MPC is generated, but with Nero Show Time (has its own codecs) sounds good , seems to be a compatibility problem with some of the K-Lite Full (K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1071_Mega), which I have installed. With Gapless "ISO standard (EDTS + SGPD)" option everything works perfectly.
Edit: the problem is with Lav Splitter and M4A container, if I change to Haali you listen well, or if I extract the AAC track with YAMB also arranged.
Summary: It is a problem of compatibility with LAV Splitter, iTunSMPB (FDK AAC) and M4A container.
Problem 2: I can not encode with QAAC, am I missing something?
Problem 3: If you try to repeat your work by pressing "Start" error message appears "Following files could not be created", to fix it you have to delete the destination folder created by the program (by default) the first time.

@GMJCZP
2) You need applesoftwaresupport (iTunes or Quicktime installation includes it). See https://sites.google.com/site/qaacpage/ for more information.
3) It can be related to overwrite option.

According to this page: http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Gapless
FDK AAC does not support gapless encoding.

Regarding the first problem, let people FDK aac take action on the matter, thanks Brazil2.
Regarding the second problem, I have avoided installing QuickTime Alternative, my mistake, thanks ozok.
And the third case, I guess it's something unique to the program.
Thanks again for your prompt replies. :)
