I have found two problems in tac32bit_beta_2768 -
First when extracting audio from video tac32bit_beta_2768 ignores the selected output folder and always extracts audio in the video files dir.
Second tac32bit_beta_2768 is unable to extract audio from mpg1 & mpg2 files.

Thanks @kolpotoru I can reproduce it. It occurs when you select "Copy Audio". Also Mp2 streams are recognized as mp3.

>> You can click on the slider and use your arrow keys to set its position.

Yes, that works, thanks.

BTW why does TAC need to "decode" the audio when the source files are standard 44100/16bits WAV files ? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1625124#post1625124)

This issue looks to still exist.

I found a bug in TAudioConverter 0.9.2.2893 - while extracting audio from video file if the output file exists TAudioConverter 0.9.2.2893 is unable to rename the new output file.

Another question running TCDRipper from TAudioConverter 0.9.2.2893 toolbar is fine but running it directly TCDRipper crashes it. Is it bug or by design.

The Eject/Load button in TCDRipper doesn't work.

It's not either. You can run TCDRipper as a standalone program but you must run it with certain parameters. Also it's written to create temp. wav files for TAC, so it isn't that much of a use when used as standalone program.

The Eject/Load button in TCDRipper doesn't work.

Thankyou for the fixes. The Renaming is working correctly now and the cd eject/load also working.

There is a bug in TAudioConverter after disabling skinning when we close TAudioConverter and then reopen it the skinning in the Codec Settings and Tags Dialogs re appears. And when AudioConverter dose not find any component and gives error, the error dialog is also skinned.

There is some problem with ReplayGain setting because when "Auto lower to prevent clipping" is not selected even the default 89 value produces garbage audio.

I don't know what causes this, they have the same configuration as the rest of the windows.

I'm not sure this is a problem. Maybe you need to increase/decrease the value. I don't understand/use RG much really.

kolpotoru
7th March 2014, 09:12
It seems like the problem with mp3gain is that TAudioConverter is not checking the current gain of the audio file and Applying the 89 gain over the current gain which makes the audio garbage.
For example if the audio files current gain is 85 and i want to apply 89 gain then it should be 85+4=89, but what is happening is 85+89=174.Same thing might also be applicable with aacgain.

@Skibicki it seems two texts were overlapping, I removed the old one and it is fine now. Thanks.

@kolpotoru, RG values are just tags, they do not alter the audio itself. I don't know how mp3gain works, but I doubt that it takes previous tags into account, it just overwrites them. You just set the loudness you want to get; I can do 90dB to 94dB convertion without a problem.

kolpotoru
7th March 2014, 19:17
I have checked with MP3GainPortable
it uses following command to find out the gain -

mp3gain.exe /o /s c C:\m.mp3

the gain is 78.5

then it uses following command to set the gain to 98.6 -

mp3gain.exe /g 14 /t C:\m.mp3

-Fixed: [General] A few minor UI problems
-Fixed: [TTagger] Writing "Tool" tag to AAC files caused other tags to disappear in some rare cases

> TAC(0.9.4.3341)setup_64bit.zip
> MD5: 5c9895b9e1174f3fb49daae9c5401311

That installs 32-bit TAudioConverter.exe (MD5: 748ca3c008a35a94294c3231e40bc7af)

Something with sourceforge?
Cause I went back again, & I *know* I tried the portable_64, yet again I got setup_64 (& I think TAudioConverter.exe is different again, but still 32-bit, let me check...).

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/taudioconverter/0.9.4/TAC%280.9.4.3341%29setup_64bit.zip?r=http%3A%2F
%2Fsourceforge.net%2Fprojects%2Ftaudioconverter%2Ffiles%2F0.9.4%2F&ts=1396564332&use_mirror=iweb

Scratch that last part, I think I'm going crazy.

Well not totally crazy, though I can't account for the above quote.

In any case, TAC(0.9.4.3341)portable_64bit.zip (e8b7b99bdc2d2285e9a2c727977f53f0) does still install/extract a 32-bit TAudioConverter.exe, yet it is different (TAudioConverter.exe a5f929ecb5695bab1d8d56c22f590fa7) from that within setup_64.

TAC(0.9.4.3341)portable_32bit.zip extracts the same TAudioConverter.exe (32-bit) as portable_64bit.
Tools are different, 64-bit in 64bit & 32-bit in 32bit (at least checking through some of them).

So it seems you just have the 32-bit TAudioConverter.exe packed in the 64-bit downloads.
(And odd that there is difference between the setup & portable?)

ozok
4th April 2014, 00:15
Well, I was planning to give info when I write about the update but since you asked. 64bit installer/portable includes 32bit TAudioConverter.exe. As you may have noticed, I merged cd ripper into the main window. CD ripping library is 32bit only and I can't compile 64bit TAC.exe while I use it. Encoders in 64bit packages are still 64bit (ofc ones that have 64bit versions). In short,
-In 32bit packages: everything is 32bit
-In 64bit packages: encoders are 64bit, TAudioConverter.exe is 32bit.

Ah OK.

But why the differences in the TAudioConverter.exe between the setup & portable versions?
Something with the time of the compile or the like?

[grumbles about the "benefits" of, & in particular, in Windows, "64-bits" :-)]

ozok
4th April 2014, 01:16
Yes they are different files. Actually the only difference is a boolean flag (Portable = False/True), that's all.

[grumbles about the "benefits" of, & in particular, in Windows, "64-bits" :-)]
LOL. GUI doesn't do much by itself. So unless you are adding a number of files that'd make TAC use a few GB of ram, using 32bit exe shouldn't make much difference. Well, at least I didn't notice a difference myself.

@kolpotoru, you can resize the window, & if you didn't need tags, sized to overlap the tags icon, it looks like it would be just around 800.

Just to note, Temp Folder:, is actually deleted on program close.

Not sure if that is good or bad, but it is different behavior from before.
Before, contents within were removed, but the folder itself was left.

I do set a specifc Temp Folder.

I hadn't thought about it before, & nothing had come of it, but I do run with different Users, & potentially I may have had different instances of TAC running under different User accounts, all using the same Temp Folder.

What did happen with this change, having had 0.9.3 running under a different user account, when I went to exit 0.9.4, is I got an abort.
Took me a little time before I figured out what was going on.

exception message : System Error. Code: 145. The directory is not empty.

Edit:

Hmm...

Looks like there is more to it then that.

Now when I Add a file, I'm getting an error:

exception message : Cannot create file "C:\out\TAudio\fileinfo.ini". The system cannot find the path specified.

If I close TAC, pre-create "C:\out\TAudio\", then I can successfully add a file, but then again on program close TAC has deleted Temp Folder, so when I run TAC again...

Edit:

-Fixed: [General] TAC didn't delete some temp files/folder in portable mode (thx to eahm)

Yes, it is only with portable that this is occurring, best I can tell.
(Started with installer yesterday, thought there were issues, so tried portable, & have used that since, but then went back to installer to see if that was different, & I did not see Temp Folder being delete with that.)

(Separate issues)

On startup I get:

Error: Failed to initialize CDRip (insufficient privileges?)

After the message, TAC then loads just fine.

Possibly related, or maybe I'm just dense, but how do you get the Audio Player to play?
I've got a Pause, Stop, Timeline, & Volume, but nothing to start playback?

If I had set (& forgotten about) Filters, I am no longer seeing any visual indication prior to starting the encode - unless I specifically click the Filters icon & check?

Prior, in 0.9.3, the Settings window would clue you in, prior to starting the encode.
(In addition, it also showed you the Codec settings, again allowing you to catch a potential error prior to starting an encode.)

ozok

@kolpotoru, I can make height smaller but I cannot change the width without changing current layout. And I don't want to do that.

@therube, in order to make portable version more "stealth" I made TAC to delete temp folder. My intention was to delete only default temp folder (%temp%\TAudioConverter) however I did an overkill and also made TAC to remove the temp folder user specified. I have half a mind to remove temp folder option completely. I don't understand why users set temp folder to a directory where they have important files or files at all. It is for temporary files people.

ini file is created in the temp folder. It's used to get info from the file. I'm guessing temp folder doesn't exists so it cannot be created.

I wasn't aware CDrip needed different privileges. You can double click on a file in the list to start playback or you can use "Play" item in right-click menu.

I'll add an icon or something to indicate that filters are enabled/disabled.

kolpotoru
5th April 2014, 17:04
There is two ways to solve the problem without changing current layout -
Reduce the size of the toolbar icons then all icons will fit in less width.
or
Give user the option to hide unnecessary toolbar icons. Hiding one or two icon can also solve the problem.

Pause button should act same as wmp to start and pause playing.

TAC should remember & restore the window size and position.
Currently it resizing on closing and reopening.

ozok
6th April 2014, 12:42
I tried to make buttons smaller but then controls at the bottom don't fit, especially codec option summary text. I'll try to do something about it anyway.
I don't plan to change the way pause button behaves. Double clicking will start playing. Storing size and location will come with the next release. I thought it was already present, it must have been TEncoder then.

> I have half a mind to remove temp folder option completely.

Being able to specify where Temp Folder (Parent to Temp Folder, if you will) is located is important.
Some programs (GPAC comes to mind) stores its temp files in %APPDATA%\Local\Temp & that is a terrible place (IMO, & for me) as that is a location with little room to spare.

> I don't understand why users set temp folder to a directory where they have important files or files at all.

Once one realizes & understands just what happens at the end of a session, that the entire (specified) directory contents are removed (& I'm kind of thinking that the directory itself should not be removed?), I wouldn't think they'd set temp to someplace important.

Now, I will say that most would only expect that created files are deleted & anything not specifically created is just left alone. That way one might set Temp Folder to a "generic" %TMP% & be done with it. But what is different here, is the on exit all of %TMP% are removed. And that might be unexpected.

There are times I like to monitor what is going on in Temp Folder (helps if I'm running into a snag, or maybe I'll want to make a quick copy of the temporary .wav, knowing that I'm going to want/need it shortly thereafter).

When I read that, I expected only audio playback.

You can double click on a file in the list to start playback or you can use "Play" item in right-click menu.

Yes I saw that & that, & that does work.

But ... what happens (at least for me) is that the system default application for the particular file extension type, opens. So an .mp4 opens MPUI/MPlayer & an .wma opens WMP. And with that, none of the controls in the TAC gui are effectual?

Is the intended effect to be that TAC plays the file directly with \Tools\ffmpeg\ffplay.exe rather then opening an external application? (Either manner is fine.)

ozok
6th April 2014, 14:34
It's true that temp folder option gives flexibility but it can be dangerous if user doesn't know what she/he is doing. I'm unsure what to do with it.
I wonder if I'm getting that because I have no physical CD Drive?
I don't have access to a PC without a drive but "privileges" makes me think of user rights. I think it would give a different warning if no driver was found. I've looked into libraries source code to see why "privileges" error occurs and it doesn't give much, raises the warning if dll isn't loaded. I've modified library's source to show an error code which can help.
Added: [General] Audio player
English isn't my native language so I'm not sure which form is true. What I meant was a feature that enables playback of audio files. Audio playback sounds as though audio streams from video files are also included.
But ... what happens (at least for me) is that the system default application for the particular file extension type, opens. So an .mp4 opens MPUI/MPlayer & an .wma opens WMP. And with that, none of the controls in the TAC gui are effectual?

Using the external player for all file types was the old way. I don't plan to use ffplay, it doesn't have a slave mode like mplayer's. External players are still the better option for the file types bass library (and it's addons) can't handle.

The option to specify the temporary dir is important and should not be removed. Because many times the default location may not have sufficient space then it is absolutely necessary to specify alternate location for temp files. In the settings dialog where temp folder can be specified it is written in red color that tac will delete all files in temp folder so It is the USER who should be alert enough not to put important files in TAC temp dir.

Note that it is in red only if the theme is turned off.

It was not until I had turned off the theme that it became readily apparent to me. (Now this was some time ago, so I am well aware at this point of time.)

And I was glad to see it emboldened in red.

It will be a good idea if the warning shows in red even when skins are enabled.

It'll be like this in the next release. TAC will also show a message to warn user to be careful with temp folder.
