Quits with a meaningless log when I try to feed an 8ch, 24-bit wav (decoded from 6.1 DTSHD with Arcsoft/eac3to) for use with qaac. Use of the same file with qaac directly is just fine.

Did you specify 24 bit on the UI? We've already established that the "Same as source" setting doesn't work properly.

LOL, works now on version 0.6.1. I didn't try it on 0.6 but I'm assuming the changes were made for that. This'll be much more convenient than piping from eac3to to qaac, though I suppose I'll have to keep doing that until your program can decode TrueHD and DTS-MA.
I love the polish of this program though. Nice updating, pretty straightfwd UI...good stuff man.

AFAIK ffmpeg can't deal with DTS-MA properly. The guides tell us to use eac3to in conjunction with the Arcsoft decoder (specifically you need to use version 1.1.0.0. or 1.1.0.1 if you want to be able to decode 6.1 properly - matters for a few big titles like LOTR EE).

There is a bug with temp folder detection. if you copy taudio's program folder to another user's acount, program gives this message: 'cannot create temp folder' and then exits.
it will better if you put an option to use system temp folder or custom folder. if user selects system temp folder, program should disable input box and get the temp folder name from operating system whenever it has run.

ozok, really great work on the audio converter! I especially love the GUI, you sure did a beautiful job with that.
I have a feature request:
I want to be able to convert FLAC to ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) and ALAC to FLAC, including preserving all meta-data. If you include this, we could also convert FLAC multi-channel to ALAC multi-channel with your great software. This is pretty useful, because in the Apple world, FLAC cannot be played back natively and FLAC-support is more widespread.
ALAC support is also included in ffmpeg library, so it shouldn´t take too much time to include that into TAudioConverter.
Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

Wow, that was fast, thanks!
I have tested FLAC to ALAC-conversion with samples taken from here:
http://www.linnrecords.com/linn-downloads-testfiles.aspx
FLAC -> ALAC:
The good news is that it works perfectly fine with 2-channel FLACs up to 24bit, 192kHz or 5-channel FLACs up to 88.2kHz - so all the converted samples play lossless in ALAC.
One problem though, embedded metadata and front cover are not preserved (it will even be re-written for some strange reason, which is bad):

Hi:
Interestingly this application. Does ripping CD's?
ozok
27th January 2013, 18:45
@GMJCZP no it does not, file to file conversion only.
@iSunrise at the moment TAC can only extract artwork to a single file. I am planning to improve it in the future. About "artist" tag being repeated, TAC passes info gathered by mediainfo so I do not have much control over it.
@cengizhan, it is really strange. Looks like ffmpeg cannot extract stream properly. Can you send me the video link so I can take look at it myself?
ozok
27th January 2013, 20:55
Problems with cengizhan's video stems from the fact that mediainfo and ffmpeg sometimes report different ID for audio tracks. As a workaround, I added an option -"Assume all videos have single audio track"- to "Settings" window. If you select this, no ID information will be sent to ffmpeg and first audio track will be copied.
You can get portable TAC.exe from this (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9617171/TAudioConverter_portable.7z) link.

OK, I will post that to the MediaInfo developer, so he can fix it, but before I post and report, I checked MediaInfo myself to know what I can report to him.
Here´s a screenshot of MediaInfo 0.7.61.
http://www.abload.de/img/mediainfo_test192flacnxsuk.png
Judging by the screenshot, MediaInfo reads everything out perfectly, apart from the Artist Name field:
MediaInfo -> Metadata:
- Album -> Album Title
- Track Name -> Track Title
- Track name/Position -> Track Number
- Track name/Total -> Total Tracks
- Performer -> Performer
- Genre -> Genre
- Recorded date -> Date
- DISCTOTAL -> Total Discs
It seems that MediaInfo is missing the Artist Name field for whatever reason and TAC for some reason interprets Performer as Artist Name, that´s also why the Performer field is empty in the converted file.
Can you at least preserve the other fields that MediaInfo reads out correctly? I am gonna talk to the MediaInfo developer about the missing Artist Name info in MediaInfo.
GMJCZP
28th January 2013, 00:26
@GMJCZP no it does not, file to file conversion only.
Ozok Thanks for your quick reply.
It is contemplated in the future add the option to make rips Audio CDs?
ozok
28th January 2013, 02:42
@iSunrise TAC's workflow for artist/performer is like this.
-Artist tag is read with "Performer" parameter from MediaInfo which is defined as "Main performer/artist of this file" in MediaInfo guide.
-Performer tag is read with "Album/Performer" parameter from MediaInfo which is defined as "Album performer/artist of this file" in MediaInfo guide.
-If artist tag is empty, performer is used. Else, artist is used.
This is the solution I came up with, because it seemed to work with my files. Also I did my best to transfer as much tags as possible from source to destination. But some encoders accept less tag fields than others.
@GMJCZP I can't speak certain on this. I am, however, planning to use bass library for decoding purposes and there seems to be a CD ripper component for that library. So, I might implement CD ripper in the future.

ozok, you mentioned earlier that you won't be able to spend much time on TAC after February. There are very good free CD rippers out there that use the wonderful AccurateRip database, and I'd hate to see you spend your time on ripping functionality. I use dbPoweramp for ripping, and I used to use their conversion program before yours came along. I hope you just continue making TAC, which IMO is already the best GUI audio converter available, even better with the limited time you have available.
ozok
28th January 2013, 18:28
@jkauff I was just trying to say that after implementing bass library as decoder, it'd not be that difficult to implement a CD ripper :). Of course first priorty is still file to file encoding.
I sincerely thank for your interest in TAC.

A caution for those of you using the SoX resampler with TAC. There's a new version of SoX out today, and ozok thought it might be possible to manually replace the files he distributes with the new files. I did some quick testing, and found a problem with my downsampled files being truncated.
I'd recommend you stick with the version that comes with TAC until ozok has time to test the new version.

Maybe its just me but I noticed a few problems with TAudioConverter 0.7.7.
1. When skins are enabled and I start conversion GUI gets messed up:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19804113/Forumi/Slike/Doom9/002.png
No problems if I disable skinning:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19804113/Forumi/Slike/Doom9/004.png
2. Even if I select Output foder Same as source (checkbox) TAC tries to open last specified folder in the box when post-encdoed action is Open output folder. And if that folder does not exist TAC throws error message.
