For MPEG2, only allows 'Extract As' MKV, not M2V.

How do I select the features as I just get a extract button and not a features/queue buttons.

Greif

Click on the feature row you would like to see the streams of.

Maybe I'm not understanding your problem.

There is no feature button like there used to be. If i click on extract I get the error "Retreive features prior to enqueueing job".

Just below the "Input" field there is a blue "feature" text that is underlined. Click on that one and you are all set. Thats the location of the old button.

Ok thanks. I think the button is better as I never saw that underlined and as a link.

Question, why does the CPU utilization for the GUI process almost equal the eac3to process? Isnt eac3to performing all the heavy lifting?

Greif
27th January 2009, 23:28
I think it's a focus thing, since the GUI is in the foreground, it gets the CPU's attention. I can set the priority of both the GUI and the eac3to process.

Hi Greif,

could you please add support for:

DTS-ES 7: DTS-ES, German, 5.1 channels, 24 bits, 1509kbps, 48khz

DTS Hi-Res
4: DTS Hi-Res, German, 5.1 channels, 24 bits, 3018kbps, 48khz
(core: DTS, 5.1 channels, 24 bits, 1509kbps, 48khz)

These can only be converted to AC3. No DTS option available

Would it be possibly to preload the default extensions for audio like for video? User configurable would be a dream ;)
Because mostly everyone converts always to his standard settings.
e.g. for me it would be: THD always to FLAC.

Also it would be nice to have the language in the filename for audio & subtitles.
#FEATURE_#STREAM_LANGUAGE_subtitle/audio.extension
#FEATURE_#STREAM_subtitle/audio_LANGUAGE.extension

Thanks for this tool!

Matt

@MaFL

Sure thing. I will make the changes to those audio stream types.

I like the idea of having default extract settings. I will add to the list of things to do.

Sorry, I haven't release anything lately, I've been busy. I will try to get something out this weekend.

Let me ask you why does the HdBr process have more threads and utilize more CPU then eac3to? I also noticed that on my quad core, one of my cores goes to 100% and all other cores hover around 8 - 10%. Is HdBr optimized for multiple cores?

Greif
2nd February 2009, 06:14
I would say no... it is not optimized for multiple cores. Currently, the BackgroundWorker class is being used to farm out to eac3to. I'm sure it could be optimized a bit better by using the Thread class and doing some plumbing work yourself, but I'm not really in the mood to do it.

I can see if I can clean things up a bit more.

eac3to 3.06 adds mkv options, is this a feature you could reflect in your tool? Would be great, madshi did state it's not fully complete yet, so, maybe it could come later? Cheers :D

Yep, I'm working on single-file(s) feature selection... it's coming... slowly but surely.

Greif

I know I said I would have something out, but I'm working on some bugs and the latest release of eac3to introduced some exciting features (MKV input anyone??) :D

kurt

Hi Greif and others.

Been using ToNmt with some success but having a problem with a group of HD-DVDs with TrueHD and giving this GUI a work out. I am a little new at this and very definitely not a sophisticated user of eac3to, tsmuxer, transcoders etc.

I want to extract HD video and the TrueHD track from these movies without degrading the quality. I intend storing them on a NAS and playing them back using a PCH A110. I have been using ToNmt to convert my HD-DVDs to .ts files - those that I convert successfully work fine. So I'd be happy to stick with that format.

I have been selecting the 1080p video file - which is usually VC1 so I leave it as VC1 as I don't have specific need for mkv. I select the True HD audio track and select for THD+AC3, because I understand that the PCH needs interleaved AC3 to playback the TrueHD. The result is two files, one video and one audio.

Is this all I need to do with this GUI in order to produce the main movie and TrueHD? If so, what next What do I do with them now? Is there a simple to use, reliable program to make these files into a .ts or something similar that I can use with my PCH? I thought tsmuxer might be it but I can only get it to pick up the video file (although, at the time I was testing I had left the video on the default setting and it was an mkv file).

Would appreciate some simple instructions on how to proceed or a pointer to where I might be able to find out.

Thanks.

Regards,

Allan

@fourbigkids:

The web page for the PCH A110 says it supports MKV. I would mux everything into an MKV, but I know others like the TS container.

Using the GUI, extract the video to VC1/H264/MKV and the audio to whatever format you want, then mux everything into an MKV using something like MeGUI (a la mkvmerge). Test it out on a movie and see if it works for you.

Sorry I can't comment on ToNmt cuz I've never used it and I don't use the TS container either - strictly MKV for me :D

Hi!

I'm not personally familiar with "ToNmt". It sounds like it may be useful to me.

Does it convert HD-DVD files ONLY to .ts, or is it also capable of saving as .m2ts?

Thanks Greif. I have mkvmerge - never thought to see if it would grab both the video and audio files. Will have a play on the weekend. Sounds easy!

Yes, m2ts also. dburckh is a very helpful sort - I see ron spencer has posted a link.

Hi Grief, OK, possibly stupid question, I can get mkvmerge to open the video file but it doesn't want to know about the .thd+ac3 audio track when I try to open it in the Input window. It doesn't seem to be supported. Is there another program that I could use to mux these files (preferably not tsmuxer which seems to have a bug when it comes to TrueHD)?

Allan

I noticed that this gui encodes FLAC in 2pass mode via eac3to ?

Greif
6th February 2009, 13:44
@Acrowly: the GUI is a front-end to eac3to...

@fourbigkids: I think you can just rename the thd+ac3 track to thd. See if that works for mkvmerge

As an aside, try to keep the posts in this thread related to the GUI. If you need assistance with something, search, PM, or open up another thread.

Just change the format to something that mkvmerge likes. If you don't care about size and want to 100% retain the quality of the audio try transcoding to FLAC. Does the PCH like FLAC?

Greif,

Great tool, thanks for your hard work, how's mkv input coming along?

fourbigkids,

Once you have extracted the video and audio files mux them back into .ts or .m2ts using tsMuxer, search doom and you'll find it, have been using this tool and eac3to to convert lossless True-HD into DTS to play on my A-100, using this process and works perfectly...

I will do my best to get a release out ASAP. Please be patient.

no worries friend, the price is right, so no complaints

yours is the only front end I use with eac3to as the other GUI registers as a virus with McAfee, would be great if it could work directly with m2ts and mkv's...

yeah - this would be great. as long with an option to load multiple m2ts files (like in seamless branching BDs or from selfrecorded HD cameras) :)

you may look at the MeGUI's code (http://megui.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/megui/megui/trunk/packages/tools/hdbdextractor/) too (to avoid some wasting time ;))...

the megui current build (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143508) is able to do that...:)

When I finally have some time, I'll review the code in the trunk.

A google code project has been created. It is located at: http://code.google.com/p/hdbrstreamextractor/

You can view (http://code.google.com/p/hdbrstreamextractor/source/browse/) the source and download one of the two available releases:
1) HD-DVD/Blue-Ray Stream Extractor 0.5 (http://hdbrstreamextractor.googlecode.com/files/HdBrStreamExtractor_0.5.zip) - this is the release that has been available since January
2) HD-DVD/Blue-Ray Stream Extractor SVN (http://hdbrstreamextractor.googlecode.com/files/HdBrStreamExtractor_svn.zip) - this is the current code, not 100% stable but more features are available

Let me know what you think. Thanks.
