yeah, that could be great. Maybe it's time to launch a petition or something, sponsored by Doom9 himself...:p
what do you think guys ?
Of course, with your bsn.dll and adding dll's you can solve encoder news but there are other problems like:
- Add decoders for dts, aac, and news like eac3, truehd, mlp, ... (tranzcode, faad, ffmpeg, ...)
- Add suport for wav's > 4GB, WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE, LPCM, w64, ... and others. (WaveWizard)
- Add functions like Downmix (not only for ac3), and better multichannel support for resample and timestretch functions, ...

Well, enhancing the conversion capabilities of besweet/belight is a pretty (but huge) task, but ATM I would be rather satisfied with the fix of the current state of belight before taking further steps...

I've been doing quite a lot of 5.1 AC3 -> 5.1 MP4 transcodes with the latest BeSweet and BeLight GUI (Besweet GUI has also worked well).
All good... some of the encodes took 45 minutes or so (Q40 -LC profile).
Anyway, I tried to double-up on the encodes since it was only using 55% CPU (stereo encodes somewhat less).
I duplicated the folders and a few double encodes went well, I renamed the folders and also downloded "enhAacPlusEnc.exe" to test out the HE profile.
I gather that the HE profile is best for bitrates under 128 kbps but does that exclude the number of channels (eg, stereo vs surround).
Suddenly the encodes wont run... bsn.dll missing.
According to the log it can't find any files except "neroAacEnc.exe"...
So what gives...

btw
Are LC and HE suitable for 5.1 surround mp4.

Sounds like some of BeLight's settings have become confused... This is what I do: -
Delete the "BeLight.ini" file. When you restart BeLight you will be greeted by the "Executible Settings" window. Make sure "BeSweet" is pointing to the correct location.
Cheers

Works beautifully though my '% countdown' doesn't work if I transcode from 5.1 AC3 surround to m4a stereo.
Is there a way to switch off the GUI display during encodes ?
(should give a 5% increase in speed during dual-encodes)
no sense...
I take it that refers to my "HE surround" encode (didn't work... a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing).
I just love the HE profile for 'commentary tracks'... you can really drop the original AC3 stereo by half or more.
The options to 1) reduce Dynamic Range, 2) reduce Sampling downto 44.100, 3) Boosting volume and 4) using a 2-pass Pre-Gain strategy... all work together very nicely for smaller encodes.
The overall effect on low fidelity sound system is pretty awesome... it really makes them sound good (lol) !!!
I'm still having trouble with "5.1 AC3 -> 5.1 M4a" conversions...
The audio sounds muddy and the voice track is somehow 'missing'.

I've just love MS Office (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office_Picture_Manager) Picture Manager (http://ittraining.lse.ac.uk/Documentation/OnlineGuides/Picture-Manager.htm)... It let's you crop L,R,T and B, giving an adjusted image & resolution readout in realtime.
It works well with Media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Player_Classic) Player (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/Media-Player-Classic-for-Win2kXP.shtml) Classic (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm) which outputs an anamorphic snapshot.
It's easier to see the effect of cropping, with the original 720x576 (PAL) image.

1/ don't use the Boost (only for wav input files),
2/ try to disable Dynamic Compression,
3/ Are you sure you want to resample your file (48 to 44,1KHz) ? IMO, this shouldn't be necessary.

1/ gtk
2/ I'm aiming at Low-Fidelity sound systems (PC) which struggle with very high and low volumes in the same movie (will do).
3/ Also 2/ since they struggle with low-bass/hi-trebles (will test).
(I'm encoding at very low bitrates [800xheight @ Q20_CQ-CRF] where audio can easily be over 10% filesize - I prefer 5%-10%)
These encodes take forever which hardly encourages testing.
That said, I tried HEv2 at 0.8, 0.6, 0.4 and 0.2 (BBC Himalaya (http://www.bbcshop.com/invt/bbcdvd1495) documentary).
The filesize of '0.6 was slightly less than 0.8' while '0.4 was equal to 0.8' and then '0.2 dropped off sharply' but the audio was still "perfect" (Michael Palin (http://www.palinstravels.co.uk/) speaking only).
:thanks: very much for the suggestions.

you can try also to downmix then (6ch to 2ch) if your encodes are at low bitrates...to reduce the audio stream size.

I'm encoding a lot of documentaries and old movies (+20yrs old & even 40yrs old) where surround sound is quite primative or unnecessary.
That said, I grew up with a stereo sound system (70's) and so surround sound, stereoscopic movies (http://www.amazon.com/real-3D-list-stereoscopic-movies/lm/R3NEVDQ4P1ZNO0) and 3D is pretty intriguing.
For newer movies I would like to include a cut-down 5.1-m4a that is 'lean and mean' but still workable.

I think you're right !
I've done a lot of 44.1 kHz encodes with HEv2 (mostly animations) and the files generated are roughly 90 kbps (0.8q).
I tried a few encodes at 48 kHz, 1Q... and while there is a slight increase in bitrate... none come close to the full 128 kbps (max allowed bitrate for the profile).
What's your experience with HEv2... any tips (still love the profile) ?
:):devil::D
Pascal
ps
I've given up on 5.1 M4a surround for the time being (HEv2 is also pretty quick).
My feeling is that my issues is with 384 kbps surround (like, Band of Brothers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_of_Brothers)).
AC3 448 kbps 5.1 -> 5.1 M4a probably works just fine.
Stereo, in general, and HEv2, in particular, is working very well for my 800 -> 1800 bitrate encodes (0.1 -> 0.2 BPP (http://forums.divx.com/forum/viewTopic.php?id=3766))

I find it a little wierd that commentary tracks will usually have a similar filesize as the main audio track... given equivalent settings.
I somehow expected HE-AAC v2 to adjust more radically to talk-only tracks.

I have been using BeLight to transcode Mpa to Mp3 using target mode quality rather than bitrate, quality setting 60, variable bitrate mode fast, hybrid gain and normalize to 100%. Yet the result is never normalize/maximized. In fact I have tried entering Besweet command line options and they do not maximize the sound either.
The question I have is why? What must I do to get it to maximize the resulting sound?

Please put the log file to analyze the problem.
"Normalize to 100%" seems an Advanced Azid Setting not applicable here. The decoder Azid is for ac3 input not for .mpa
The -ota( -hybridgain ) work fine and produce the max output (peak) without clips/distort.
If you want more volume (rms, but with some distort) you can try 'Boost Mode' methods.

I have always had -ota( -hybridgain ) set, it was set when there was no adjustment done to the audio volume on previous attempts.
I disabled the Normalize to 100% in the Azid settings and it is now better than it was. The volume is higher but it is still not at maximum according to another audio application which shows the Mp3 left maximum as 0.9074 (-0.84dB) and right maximum as 0.9066 (-0.85dB).
Does the volume never reach a maximum with BeSweet?
tebasuna51

@RedDwarf1
You are right, I can reproduce your result and:
- the -azid( --maximize ) seems disable the -ota parameter, then nothing is applied.
- the -ota( -hybridgain ) always preserve a margin (to avoid overflow when encoding) and only near 90% is reached.
- If you want a 100% max peak you can try PreGain: -ota( -g max )

Thanks tebasuna51, I have tried what you suggested and it has done it.
Maximum left 1.0000 (+0.00dB)
Maximum Right 1.0000 (+0.00dB)
It has increased the filesize by just over 1% compared to the hybridgain setting.

I have just started to using BeLight 0.22RC1. After a few successful conversion trials, suddenly I started to get
"Access violation at address 0050F563 in module 'Belight.exe'. Read of address 00000030."
After I close the message window, when I want to switch encoding window 'WAV/PCM', the address becomes 50C26B. After that whenever I click a box 'view or edit command line, boost mode, etc' or I want to switch encoding window (AAC, AC2, MP2, ..., WAV/PCM) , I get the message with access violation address "4FDE49". If I say 'start processing', it is again "50F563".
I couldn't find a specific set of actions to lead this message. Sometimes I restart Belight, it's gone, sometimes still there.
I use WindowsXP SP2 De.
-----------
Another problem using Belight is when I try to encode in AAC with engine "3GPP Reference" the process often stops(or never stops) wirhout giving any error or output file. When this happens the current track bar usually keeps showing %3 and 'total' bar 2.78%. Sometimes %0, once they reached about %6. I had also a few successful encodings with this engine.
I use the enhAacPlusEnc.exe file which came with the BeLight install package. I also tried the one from http://mirror05.x264.nl/dimzon/ and also from Fruk's enhAacPlusEncFrontEnd. I think there is no dependency to ct-libisomedia.dll file, but inserting this file did not help, anyway.
I had also rarely error warning for the same process. The log file with or without error (never ending process) looks the same
C:\Programme\BeLight\BeSweet.exe -core( -input D:\scream-in-night.wav -output D:\scream-in-night.m4a -logfile D:\scream-in-night.log ) -bsn( -exe enhAacPlusEnc.exe -cbr 48 )
[00:00:00:000] +------- BeSweet -----
[00:00:00:000] | Input : D:\scream-in-night.wav
[00:00:00:000] | Output: D:\scream-in-night.m4a
[00:00:00:000] | Floating-Point Process: No
[00:00:00:000] | Source Sample-Rate: 44.1KHz
[00:00:00:000] +---------------------
------
it would be helpful if I could end the encoding process, in the situation above or when I want to cancel the operation in the mid of the encoding. Pressing the red button never worked for me. I always have to exit and restart Belight.
------
Problem 3:
The output of the FAAC engine is always named as "-.aac" and located in the folder that I keep BeLight.exe. This does not change when I specify a different -output value from the command line.
--
request: It would be useful if it was possible to clear a file by just pressing 'Del' instead of 'right click' + 'remove unchecked'. Not a big deal, though.
--
The uninstall.exe coming with BeLight-0.22_RC1.exe seems to be a dummy one, just deleting itself. I still use BeLight ;)

Yes, it has been a long time ago the author had some spare time left to spend into fixing things here or even put some effort on development of this nice application...
Sadly.
Personally, I would be satisfied if belight would ever become stable release v0.22 at all (with current feature set).

Hi people, I need a little help with transcoding an 5.1 AC3 to 5.1 AAC... (with NeroDigital CLI)
I get an error 84: error configuring bsn...
I have BeSweet 1.5b31 which supposedly has the latest 0.24 bsn.dll
Copied neroaacenc.exe into besweet folder as required, but still getting this error.
CHecked nero audio plugins folder as well, there are no aac.dll or aacenc32.dll (using a late, 8.3.2.1 version).
What could be the problem?
Are there any alternatives to an AC3-AAC encode, retaining the 5.1 structure?
Tried BeHappy, but get a 2 channel AAC only...

Maybe the developer did not feel up to adding such a feature. Ask the author to add the feature if you are so inclined to do so. Also, you could just kill the process if it was really important to you.

Maybe is the same problem I have with Xtreamer player.
When play multichannel aac track these players make a downmix to stereo (or DPL in Xtreamer), because can't send multichannel aac to SPDIF output, with a very low volume.
Try to make the downmix yourself to a stereo AAC file and test now the volume.
You can use BeHappy with BassAudio decoder, downmix to stereo or DPL II at your choice, Normalize and use NeroAacEncoder to obtain the stereo track.

Now the parameters are correct, maybe you need the last bsn.dll (http://kurtnoise.free.fr/BeLight/bsn_20070513.zip)

It's such a long time ago I fiddled around with BeLight.
But anyway,
did you make sure enc_aacplus.dll from an older version of Winamp is used?
If my memory serves me well version 5.5.1.7 should do the trick.
Dont know about newer ones.
Did you use the installer or the zip version of Belight 0.22 RC1?
Only the installer version contains all necessary files.
(You might need to add some extra encoders like Nero at the time...).
By the way, give BeHappy a chance if everything fails.
My install of Belight is working rocksteady for years, after a little tweaking around :p

Remember, some files are really outdated..

Your folder is exact to mine but my file 'enc_aacplus.dll' is older.
I think the problem is the enc_aacplus.dll, the last Winamp v5.57 CT libraries don't work also with BeHappy enc_aacPlus.exe (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1357157#post1357157) (equivalent to enhAacPlusEnc.exe here)
Kurtnoise is working on a new version of enc_aacPlus.exe (MeGUI, BeHappy) but I don't know if he want make a new version for enhAacPlusEnc.exe.
You can search a old enc_aacplus.dll or use NeroAacEnc.
