actually, i did two cuts to get that file.

There was the "original" avi file.

i took the first minute of this file (direct stream copy as an avi in vdubmod).
then, realizing the audio file would still be too big for the forums, i took only the first 12 or so seconds of this one minute file (here again with direct stream copy as an avi).

the i opened this 12 sec file in vdubmod, and demuxed the ac3.

@ParkerLewis: why not loading directly the avi file instead of demux the audio stream ?

In the last release, BeLight is able to transcode the first audio stream directly from the AVI container. (be sure to have VOBInput.dll though...)

If always is the beginning, "the first minute" ... "the first 12 or so seconds", maybe the problem is already in the "original" avi file.

But seems mediainfo don't report the ac3 problem inside avi and BeLight accept the avi and not the extracted ac3.

I have a few questions related to mentioned VOBInput.dll. Is there a programmatic possibility with that dll to choose an audio stream? When BeLight will get a support for VOB files, would it be a way to choose a specific PGC inside of VOBs?

How about splited AVI files? BeLight doesn't support LST files with AVI files inside of them, in contrast with BeSweet.

Hi Kurt,

When generating 5.1 (6Ch) AAC-LC or HE audio streams, I've noticed RC1 is not blanking out the "Channel Mode" (like it does with say, BeLight_Beta_Daily_(2006-10-02): -

http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4361/rc1oe8.png..

Also, the AAC-LC option is generating encodes at 24.00KHz instead of 48.00KHz and the encoded bit-rate is slightly off target: -

These are encoder issues, not BeLight problems.

BTW, don't trust in MediaInfo, really are 48 KHz., try decode the aac sample with faad and you obtain a 48 KHz wav.

Yes, via the IFO parsing. not related to VOBInput.dll though...this library is just able to detect audio IDs and delays from VOB files (only ac3 & mpa, not dts).

How about splited AVI files? BeLight doesn't support LST files with AVI files inside of them, in contrast with BeSweet.
It's planned...:)

ups...:p Should be fixed soon.

Regarding bitrate target and mediainfo : raw aac files are really a piss of sh*t to parse...Use the mp4 container to store aac streams. In the other hand, there are some rounding value for this setting.

tebasuna51
28th August 2007, 20:00
Is true, there are a problem in new BeLight version, the -lc parameter is not included (see the command line) and the aac generated is HE (with SBR, because the default for 192 Kb/s 6 channel is SBR) then the LC frequency is 24 KHz and the high frequencies go in SBR part.

For me Foobar2000 is best than MediaInfo to detect the aac parameters, but don't read well the CT aac files, we need mux to mp4 and then see the Properties.

SeeMoreDigital

...we need mux to mp4 and then see the Properties. That's a good idea :)

Muxing to .MP4 or better still .M4A (like FAAC and ND do), would be very useful.... Would this be possible Kurt?

why not using Yamb for that ?

;)I do already... But there's nothing like convenience.

Plus, when you are using CT's encoder to generate AAC-HE encodes, it would be useful to know that the .M4A encode contain SBR... Just in-case you forgot to manually add the SBR signalling yourself in YAMB.

There is no way to know whether or not ADTS AAC files contain SBR flag (except to decode few frames; that's most smart players do)...

Anyway, mediaInfo report the correct settings for m4a files containing SBR streams (LC-SBR or LC-SBR+PS).

But in this case MediaInfo inform LC only 24 KHz with the aac and with the mp4 muxed with Yamb. Foobar detect the mp4 like LC SBR and 48 KHz.

You have to specify the sbr signalling via the Properties when you mux he-aac files into the mp4.

Via Properties?
I have Yamb v1.6.0 and don't see where signal sbr.

I try in Options -> General -> MP4Box -> View or edit the MP4Box Command Line, adding the -sbr switch but seems don't work.

BTW I use BeHappy with enc_aacplus (and MP4Box) and the output is signaled and recognized by MediaInfo like you say.

In any case when don't know 'a priori' if is signaled or not I prefer Foobar2000 to see the properties, always is correct.

In YAMB 1.6, it's here: -

http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/7186/yamb16sbrwl1.png

You need to click on the "Options" tab. And under "General Options" put a tick in the box next to "Enable Import Settings". Then re-start YAMB.

Kurtnoise, I've used BeLight for many months, and love it, the gui makes conversions dead simple for newbs like me.

I was hoping that you might consider re-vamping the gui / interface on next release to make it a little more compact.

I have bad old eyes, and must use Large DPI settings with 1024x768 resolution. The gui covers the screen top to bottom, and the button to "Start Processing" always falls off the bottom of the screen, I have to fiddle with Control Panel display settings.

Any chance of this ever happening?

If not, it is a minor thing, and I will put up with a lot to be able to use this excellent tool.
Thank you for your good work!

Kurtnoise

Sure I will...

anyway, you can access "Start Processing" via the menu (Options -> Go To -> Start Processing).

Anyway, thanks so much for considering the suggestion.
Keep up the good work.

Sorry, here is another dumb noob question.

I'm running XP PRO SP2 on a dual-processor HP machine.

I downloaded the zip of BeLight 0.22RC1 from FreeCodecs.
This is not a complete package as was offered on some earlier releases, it looks to be only the BeLight exe and some help files, am I correct?

So do I just copy the exe into the folder for 0.22beta9 and overwrite the old exe? This is what I tried, but I am getting a program crash when I try to actually transcode an audio file.

Then I tried downloading and installing BeSweet again, and added the BeLight 0.2.2RC1 files to the BeSweet folder, as instructed on FreeCodecs BeLight page. I pointed BeLight to the BeSweet and BeSplit exe files. When BeLight loads, none of the menu buttons have text, and it is just impossible to work without knowing what the radio buttons do. When I click the "Start Process" button, a box pops up with no text, only an exclamation point.

I see by the changelog that there have been a number of changes in dll libraries, so I wonder if there are some version conflicts happening here.

What simple thing am I doing wrong?

tebasuna51

@grannyGeek

Use the 'my random stuff' (http://kurtnoise.free.fr/) link from Kurtnoise13 (BeLight author) to download BeLight-0.22_RC1.exe 2.7 MB, this the complete package you need.

Download also the bsn_20070513.zip and update the bsn.dll in the package. Maybe you need also Aften and NeroAacEnc in Belight folder if you want encode to ac3 or aac.

BTW, use http://www.imageshack.us/ or equivalent to host your images because your 'belightStrangeness.JPG' is not accesible, is still 'Attachement Pendig Approval'

There are free solutions to transcode 5.1 DTS -> MP4, with Foobar2000 or BeHappy-AviSynth methods, and, using intermediate wav files, you can decode DTS wit Tranzcode and after encode with BeLight.

Definately! It would be great to get some updates on it, its the only practical solution we have for MEgui/staxrip etc (from what I understand) and the loss of it through future incompatibilities would be very frustrating!
