You must take into account that idx/sub format is defined only for SD subtitles. This means resizing the subtitle to SD before converting it. This is already possible for HD-DVD subtitles using SubtitleCreator. You may want to give it a try.

Cheers
Manusse

How do you do that? Whenever I open a .SUP file from a BluRay disc (unsure if they are similar to HD-DVD) SubtitleCreator just crashes.

Great job Pelican, its possible to add SD output like 480i, 480p, 576i
formats to this program?
Can u add this ç and Ç to abc.png?
For 720x576 u need to write in BDN XML format 576i, Scenarist Blu-ray doesnt accept 576p

Thanks

sounds like you may have the wrong subtitle stream maybe? I would try using TSmuxer it gives you detailed info on subtitles and audio tracks to demux.

I've tried to demux every subtitle stream from POTC3 - SupRead recognized letters in none of them.
I'll post a sample later.

It would be alot easier if every character was in separate file, named with right code. Using this method everybody could implement national characters without asking Pelican for that.

Exactly! We can't do it at the moment. That's why I vote for mentioned modifications so everybody could add them without asking Pelican for anything. For example I made Polish and partially Portuguese characters and I still have to wait for Pelican's move.

FWIW I have been having a hellacious time trying to get good OCR out of SUPread and today found SupRip which has not been mentioned here for a couple of months.

Apparently written by Taktaal (see earlier in this thread)

http://x0r.ch/suprip/

Works wonderfully well for HD sup files, nice OCR & GUI, very few errors--easy to fix them. Sorry to hijack your thread Pelican9 but there seems to be some confusion here perhaps between SubRip and SupRip; obviously very different.

@Pelican & Rectal Prolapse: any chance to share the sources of your tool ? I would like to introduce SUP file support as input in SubRip and have a similar tool for my Linux box...

PM me if you like.

Thanks...

Here is a sendspace link to the source code to hdsup2bdn 1.04. If you do use the HD-DVD bitmap parsing, add my name in a small space of the credits, please. :thanks:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/id6igi

If it expires, let me know, I can update the link if needed.

Functions of interest:

SupToPNG
HDDVDRenderImage
HDDVDSupGetPalette
HDDVDSupGetAlpha

The code for parsing the subtitle commands (almost identical to the DVD sup commands) are in the main() function.

I use the Boost 1.34 C++ libraries, zlib, and the PNG C library. Only zlib and PNG sources are included - boost is a bit too big. :)

Pelican9, there appears to be a bug in the scenarist HDMV output. It generates an extraneous blank PNG file at timecode 00:00:00 (scenarist doesn't need it, and you still need to enter the proper subtitle offset time anyways - maybe make it an option?), and also the timestamp in the text file has an extra zero. Scenarist doesn't like that. :)

In tc on first subtitle has to be atleast 3 frames so putting in a dummy subtitle does not work Pelican, please take out this feature. You have to enter in a offset in Scenarist that is normal and the way it should be we do not need a dummy subtitle. If you do keep it in make sure that the first tc of the subtitle is 00:00:00:03 and the same in the header for the FirstEventInTC but this will through all the subtitles off by 3 frames.

thanks,
Jamos

@ Pelican9

have you seen any devil-/hell- or alike movies recently?

why I am asking?
- seems you don't like 666:

------------665----------
015DC508: PTS=12516182 (00:56:54,703)
015DC510: PCS (13) state: 2
015DC530: WDS0 (0A) id: 0 -
015DC547: PDS (4F8) 254 palettes
015DCA4C: ODS0 (EFF) 120 x 52
015DD958: END
015DD95D: PTS=12542156 (00:56:56,705)
015DD965: PCS (0B) state: 0
015DD97D: WDS0 (0A) id: 0 -
015DD994: END
------------666----------
015DD999: PTS=125496A4 (00:56:57,039)
015DD9A1: PCS (13) state: 2
015DD9C1: WDS0 (0A) id: 0 -
015DD9D8: PDS (4E9) 251 palettes
015DDECE: ODS0 (95E8) 1135 x 64
015E74C3: END
------------667----------
015E74C8: PTS=1254B3F8 (00:56:57,122)
015E74D0: PCS (13) state: 1
015E74F0: WDS0 (0A) id: 0 -
015E7507: PDS (4E9) 251 palettes
015E79FD: ODS0 (95E8) 1135 x 64
015F0FF2: END
015F0FF7: PTS=12588A65 (00:56:59,916)
015F0FFF: PCS (0B) state: 0
015F1017: WDS0 (0A) id: 0 -
015F102E: END
------------668----------

that results in:

666
00:56:57,039 -->
Gather round. Gather round, everybody.

667
00:56:57,122 --> 00:56:59,916
Gather round. Gather round, everybody.

the 666's missing end-time makes divXMux to refuse muxxing...

maybe you could add some default fade-off time in such cases?

greetz,
guru

p.s.
as suprip does not use the correct fade-off times at all, it does not have an issue here...
(for me, suprip's fade-off times are always earlier than the fade-in times... wonder how this ever will work:
666
00:56:57,038 --> 00:56:56,971
Gather round. Gather round, everybody.

667
00:56:57,122 --> 00:56:57,115
Gather round. Gather round, everybody.
)

p.p.s.
could this by all means be no bug but a feature???
- if you look at the fade-in time of 667 which is just a few milliseconds after the fade-in of 666 it may be legal to just skip the fade-off time (if this would be the same as the fade-in of the very next subtitle...)
just a thought...
on the other hand: 667 is exactly the same text, maybe that is an authoring bug or something...

with it, the subs are perfectly, or not ?

I would love to see 720p .sup output aswell.
So if you could make that in the next release it would be awesome! :thanks: :thanks:

Also a think I would like to see as an option or standard, is when exporting subs, that lines are centered.
When there is 1 line, it is centered. When there are 2 or more lines, it is centered in the middle of the video, but the text outline is left.
I would rather have it always centered.
I hope you get what i mean :p

Well, thanks for this supread tool anway :D

Is there a way to detect forced subs in a supfile (demuxed with tsmuxer, source BD). I think Departed uses them: english subs are hard encoded in some scenes and there are only 3 subfiles. 1 english, 1 german (more lines than the english one ) and subtitles for deaf people...

the goal would be to find out these passages and to convert them to srt...

for DVDs this was quite easy with subresync :)

SRT Import?

Roman's post:
Yes. I have started to improve subtitles support in tsMuxR.
I plan the following:
1. Add .srt subtitles support and ability to convert srt to PGS
2. Add dvd subtitles support and ability to convert srt to SUB.
3. Ability to convert SUB to PGS
4. Add HD-DVD subtitles, ability to convert HD-DVD subtitles to DVD SUB or PGS.
5. Add other txt based subtitles

I *think* suprip has a "preview forced subs" option or something like it. I can't remember if latest supread has that feature or not.

Hi, I want to convert Galapagos HD DVD English subs to srt. Unfortunately, SUPread can't OCR them correctly. I tried different option with no luck.

I uploaded them here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/o4wbju), if anyone wants to help me find some proper options for SUPread.

Do the following:

1) Use SUPread and save as HD-DVD Format
2) Load the new sup to subtitle creator (Tools-->Manipulate SUP)
3) Save as idx/sub
4) Use Subrip

It did worked for me.
Here is the first episode OCRed.
