If it was "just" Recode 2.2.8.5, I might be tempted to install it. But it's not... it's the entire "Nero 7 Premium" package.

And as an end-user I can't see the point of having to download and install such a massive piece of software (106.77MB), when I only want Recode 2.

If anyone from Ahead/Nero/NeroDigital read this thread.... Can we please have an up-to date version of the "Nero Digital 30-Day Trial" (http://www.nero.com/nerodigital/eng/download.php)? As Recode2 is a far more convenient 15MB ;)

bundling is a far more efficient way to force your software on the users. after all thats why m$ also bundles stuff like a mediaplayer, a firewall, a browser aso to their os ;)

not only to force. for newbies and the "normal" pc-users it is easier to have everything bundled - even if they don't need it :)

As far a I'm aware, Nero don't even offer users the ability to select the individual applications they require (there are 18No now), during the installation process. Even Micro$oft Office provides this ;)

not only to force. for newbies and the "normal" pc-users it is easier to have everything bundled - even if they don't need it :)bundling is in a lot of countries illegal. its a way to try to roll your marketdomination in one market over to a totally different one too

in the case of m$ bundling windows media player with the os without giving the user the choice whether he wants wmp or not made the EU to fine m$ with 500 million €
the idea behind this is that m$ controls the os market, by bundling wmp to it you make nearly everyone be able to play wm content too which can result in that lots of content providers will use wm as everyone can play it without hassle -> if everything works out in favour of m$ the result would be that m$ used its power in the os market to control the digital media market too, which is, as i said, an illegal method in a lot of countries

I see your point when it comes to Microsoft. But I think most of the end-users (who normally buy their "Multimedia PC" in a supermarket) really don't care about that. For them the principle thing is, they can watch their movies and burn it without any hassle. Or one is able use the build_in tv-card in the easiest way.

For my part I stick also with nero 6 like setarip_old, coz I only need it to burn sth. When it comes to encoding there are prettier alternatives :)

I am steadily losing confidence in Nero as a product. The entire 7 release from the start has been one big cluster f*ck. From retail being out at lest a month before users could web upgrade to the entire slew of bugs that have introduced with each new "update" to the promised updating tool that would allow users not to have to d/l the entire package for every release to the missing High Profile codec.

Nero used to be on top of its game. Every month had an update and the programs were rock solid. Now with the attitude of trying to be "everything", I feel they have spread themselves too thin. The last update has taken almost a month and a half to come out and very little was fixed.

With programs like Stax and MeGUI, Nero had better get their heads on straight and provide a better product otherwise they will lose loyal customers to those programs as they become nearly as easy as Recode to backup to H.264 AVC. If it werent for the CD/DVD burning, I would dump them at this point. I already needlessly dump my money on software that companies dont fix the bugs as often (Adobe and M$), I definitely dont need another (Nero).

Indeed... It's always been my opinion that in order for Recode2 to succeed it should be made available and sold as a separate product. And at a price that is competitive with DivX's products!

This in no way means it can't be bundled within Nero7's $60.00 package too!

actually if i understood it right "nerodigital pro" is exactly that: a standalone nerodigital creation tool
the only problem is, its outdated (the last version seems to be from summer 2005)

Yep, you're right on both counts!

I feel it's very re-miss of Ahead not to keep "NeroDigital Pro" up-to date, provide monthly trials and/or offer it for sale.

Well they did that with NeroDigital Pro but they left it unupdated. I use Nero 6 and Would like to Get the Update to Recode 2 for the Ipod AVC profiles but I'm not going to Update to the Headache that is Nero 7 to do it. I'd Upgrade to Nero Digital Pro Standalone if they Decently Supported it.
