Just done a brief test and they have fixed the resize problem.
I wish I could change the frame rate.

You can also use nerodigital with nerovision now :)
I don't test it for now only see it's possible.

does nve support editing (cutting/joining) of .mp4 files now?

I am actually very impressed with this release. Everything that was majorily wrong with the last release has been fixed and we finally have the option to export ND/ND AVC from Vision Express timeline.

Now if we could just get some sort of DRM and possibly menu support inlcuded in the nero digital file, Indie film makers like myself can start mass distributing. :)

Not without reencoding I think

nope i meant 20% faster encoder, 40% on 1rst pass, such numbers were told by Babayaga

This is so stupid to download 30 megs each time :( According to their
changelogs they could make just tiny patches, you know.Maybe I'm a bit mistaken, but it's a real problem when having slow modem connection...Gouch...They haven't even managed to update their Recode with that AVC "Highness" profile. What are they waiting for? It's so strange. Those guys from ON2 are strange enough too :"We have made a super-mega-ultra VP7...",so where is it!? Сome on !!!

I find it very strange that you can't add audio files to the encode list. I guess it only allows the audio that is part of the avi file you open. So it seems that any .mp4 files you create will have to have only 1 audio track.

Adding insult to injury, Nero's audio encoding app doesn't recognize .ac3 files. WTF!?!?

Well if you create .mp4 file from .VOB, then you can have 2 audio streams. Maybe what you suggest will be added in the future.

I've also noticed that the "Cartoon mode" option under Source Material seems to have been changed to "Chroma optimization".

Does this mean I should check "Chroma optimization" if I want the encoder to use chroma ME?

Can you be more specific?

I tried several times to install NVE then NBR, or NBR and then NVE and even with license keys that work for others, I don't have the Nero HD option when both are installed. Even after cleaning the registry and Profile dir, the pb is still there...

Not everything majorly wrong has been fixed. At least not the problem with the hdtv directv sources I am having.

hey, if i use nero 6.6.0.3 and nve 3.0.1.27, will that have any adverse effects, i mean, as i am on dialup, do i need to update nero too, if i just update nve, would that be enough, or should i update the whole thing?

Can Nero AVC encode interlaced content in interlaced mode?
I ve got some pure interlaced content, that nero detects as interlaced.
But then it advices to deinterlace for a better quality???
You cant get better quality by deinterlacing (you're removing the smoothness of the 50hz motion )...

Anyway the only optiom is then to "disable" deinterlace...
I was assuming it meant that the encoder would work in interlaced mode...
But looking at the result... it more looks like the encoder is simply encoding the interlaced frames as if they were progressive and therefore it is wasting bits and ruining the video...

Does anybody know if there is a way to get Recode encode interlaced content properly?

Thwak! (ouch)

That was me getting smacked upside the head with my latest audio issue... :)

In a continuation from the previous thread, this regards NeAudio.ax and its wacky antisocial tendancies.

I watch my mp4s with ZoomPlayer, and the audio chain goes:
NDParser->NeAudio->AC3Filter->ZPAudio->DirectSound

Now of course, to make this work in the first place, I have to use an old version of NeAudio. Which has worked fine, except now I've realized. NeAudio (either version 36) won't hook up to AC3 Filter on a 6ch AAC audio track. 2ch works beautifully, but 6ch just won't connect the filters. They all appear in the graph, but won't connect. No error message, though. See GraphEdit.

http://www.go-upstairs.com/cheers/graph-36-1.png

Now the new version of NeAudio (v46) will connect just fine to AC3Filter on 6ch tracks. So whatever the problem was, it has been solved. But it will only connect from within WMP9. But I can't use the new version outside of ShowTime and WMP9! ARGH!

So I'm stuck between a rock and two hard places. My options are:

1) Use WMP9 and have no control over playback whatsoever, but hear the audio.

2) Use ZoomPlayer and resign myself to downmixing all audio to 2ch, and also re-encoding all the 6ch movies I've done so far.

3) Use ShowTime and sacrifice all the happiness that comes from using my favorite media player.

Could you please explain to me the business reason for preventing people from using their player of choice when viewing Nero Digital? Because I don't understand. Is there any hope that this will be changed in the future, or should I go about finding alternate solutions?

Let me get this straight, if I'm encoding a non-cartoon video, should I select normal instead of Chroma optimization? And why is Chroma selected by default?

But maybe it has something to do with the subs and chapters support in ShowTime, meaning it is preferred so that full features of ND would be in use by people as much as possible. Just guessing.. Maybe it's nothing like that.

Thanks JonhV, I'd love to find out.

If it's to "encourage" people to use ShowTime, perhaps in the future there might be a reg key or something for people who know what they're doing and want to use a different player? Right now I just feel like I can't continue encoding until I have an idea of what the future situation will be.

Chroma optimization is selected by default, because it takes chroma values into account in ME decision process and can increase quality of non-cartoon videos too.

It is a licencing issue, but we are planning to make unrestricted filters available to users if they purchase a special plugin which will also make AVC available to endusers of OEM versions of Nero.

Edited for typos.
@JohnV
I'm picking up steam in my attempts to convert my entire DVD library to Nero Digital. Now that I've been using Recode a bit more, I've been noticing some possible issues I'd like to bring to your attention.

Preview windows display wrong video clips
When importing Titles from more than one DVD at a time, the video preview windows tend to show videos from the wrong DVD. The behavior of Recode after adjusting in/out points suggests that it is only maintaining one DVD table. I imagine if I tried to encode this it would end up corrupt.

Recode reports "Please insert original disc in drive X:"
When one imports a DVD into two concurrent Recode sessions, attempting to encode the second session causes Recode to report "Please insert original disc in drive X:" and refuse to encode.

Recode encodes wrong video, and may crash upon pressing "burn"
If one imports a Title into Recode, switches discs in the drive, then presses "burn", Recode blindly begins encoding using data from the new DVD. Occasionally it will encounter unexpected data and become hopelessly frozen.

Naming conflict with "continued" titles.
Where the typical naming pattern for output is:
DISC_NAME Title %d.mp4
When a title is "continued" the DISC_NAME is dropped from the filename. If I encode two movies to the same folder--
DISC_1 Title 1.mp4
DISC_2 Title 1.mp4
Title 1 (continued).mp4
To which movie does "Title 1 (continued).mp4" belong?

Output filenames may occasionally be unacceptable but are difficult to rename by hand.
The makers of some discs apparently believe that "DVD_VIDEO" is the most descriptive volume label available. If the disc "DVD_VIDEO" contains twenty Titles, the resulting glop of .mp4 files is tedious to rename to something more appropriate. Of course, a well-written batch-script can rename the encoded output files in a jif, but that is neither an every-man's solution, nor in keeping with the point-and-shoot nature of Recode, nor a solution at all when burning straight to disc instead of hard disk folder. A text field to change the DISC_NAME part of the field would be most helpful here.

Multiple-segment Titles may end up in the wrong order
When importing several "continued" segments, the naming pattern is as follows.
DISC_NAME Title 1.mp4
Title 1 (continued).mp4
Title 1 (continued) (2).mp4
Title 1 (continued) (3).mp4
Title 1 (continued) (4).mp4
While this naming scheme (with the correction for the absence of DISC_NAME, mentioned previously) makes decent sense for between one and three segments, with many segments it is confusing for a number of reasons.

1) The names don't properly alpha-sort. Even after adding DISC_NAME to the continuations, "Title 1.mp4" sorts after "Title 1 (continued).mp4"
2) The sequence numbers come from the order in which segments are added, not from any inherent order on the disc. It is therefore very easy to end up with file names which are out of sequence with what's on the disc. While arguments can be made that this is favorable, in light of the possibility of having menus and other navigational structures in the future, a naming convention which is more strongly correlated may be favorable. (I say "may", of course, because there are many forseeable alternate solutions.) It would certainly make life less confusing for me.
3) The sequence numbers are misleading.
"(continued) (2)" is the third segment, not the second.
"(continued) (3)" is the fourth, etc.

My recommendation is that when it is detected that there are more than two segments (more than "Title 1" and "Title 1 (continued)", the naming convention is changed to:
Title 1 (part 1)
Title 1 (part 2)
Title 1 (part 3)

I really enjoy this software a lot and aprreciate the work that goes into it, I bought a new Nero Suite Sunday and I can't say enough about this AVC codec, my kid's cartoon encodes, Lion King and so on look beautiful. Can't wait for new versions, even though I can't see what else needs to be improved

Here's something I noticed.

Open one Recode session. Pick a "fit to" size. Go to the next page.

Start another session with a different "fit to" size. Go the the next page.

Press "back" on the first session. It inherits the "fit to" size from the second sesson.

There are some other properties inherited as well, but I'm not exactly sure which ones.

Also, any word on how long we might have to wait for the "AVC Plugin" so we can watch our videos in our own players?

How do you know if nero recode 2 got MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.
I have the latest Nero with all the plug ins etc.
Is there a way to check that i am actually using avc/h.264

Is there a way to check that i am actually using avc/h.264 When you start Recode, you should have options to encode to Nero Digital. After you have selected that, push the "More"-button on lower left corner in the gui window, and you can choose Nero Digital Profiles. Then select for example "Standard - AVC"-profile.

You can also see your stream is AVC from ShowTime, when you right click->Options->Show additional info on OSD.

Just curious about some options:

Compress Adaptive
Advanced Analysis

Both never used according to my logile, but I don't know what they should do, where to enable them, or where to read more about them.

Would someone give me a hint? Thanks!

@JohnV:

Could you guys consider including a "select none" button for file type registering at the end of the installer? It's quite annoying having to deselect 30+ options one by one on every installment. :p

Keep up the good work!

I second that. I was about to post such request last time I installed NeroVission Express. It's actually not 30. NVE 3.1.0.0 earlier today tried to hijack exactly 59 file types, including common types like mp3 and jpg. The average Joe is not quite aware of what's happening during installation process and usually just press "Next". The only ethical way is "None" to be set by default (for all software, not only NVE) or at least only file types that are application-specific, otherwise it's nothing more than a virus-like behaviour (don't get me wrong, I like Nero :) ).

 I didn't bother to count them. Anyway, I don't have a problem with file type associations in any software as long as I can control it. I appreciate their decision to let the user know what file types will be associated to the program (they could have easily stolen them without asking, as many programs do), and as they provide a button with "select all" functionality, I suppose it won't be much work to do the inverse. Hopefully we will see it in next version!

Regards.
