Alexander are you working on a merged DVP720 V37 with HTS3500 risc ?
I see on the pdf that there is also support for DIVX6 (Not that I use them) chapters and subtitles. Will that come with the risc also ?
I'm pretty happy with V37 modded fw's around, but Packed Bitstream would definetly save on the hassle of unpacking many movies...
Any changes regarding the bug of 4:3 movies on 16:9 displays ? Soon I'll buy a 16:9 LCD ....
Alexander will you share this info on MT13x9 yahoo group ?
Thanks for the info.
All the best,
Sharro
Tomorrow I'll share the firmware and the info. I have no idea how to test the bug you are mentioning, cause I don't have a 16:9...
It's nice to hear from you again, Sharro :)
Alexander
Edit: I think you didn't read quite carefully that pdf... It doesn't say anything about supporting divx6 chapters, only multi-subtitles and multi-audio tracks are supported, but this feature has been present all along in the DVP720...

Hello everybody,
This firmware's RISC will add xvid packed bitstream playing capability to dvp720 and all compatible players.
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/h/hts3500s_12/hts3500s_12_fus_eng.zip
But it takes us a few steps back in terms of stummering/stuttering with subtitle display on divx... unfortunately. If I well remember to a pre V.34 state.
All the best,
Sharro

With peli's fw + the HTS3500S RISC, I have no stammering AT ALL. Maybe the v34 is not that compatible with that firmware, but when I tried the v34 (MadMan's mod) with this RISC, I had no stammering. Weird. I'll try it too tonight one more time.

Alexander if you have any star wars movie with subtitles, the prelude is great to check for stuttering, don't even look at the subtitles just look at the prelude's letter going into the deep space, it's quite easy to spot the stutters.
All the best,
Sharro
PS: If possible email me Peli+HTS35000S and I'll test it (I'm using Peli V37 at this moment)

Tested peli's fw + hts3500s RISC with Star Wars intro. Very small stammering and only with very long subtitles. It stammers less than with DVP762's ARM, in my opinion.

I had not tested against DVP762 for a while, did you test PELI V37 ?
In fact after reseting to default with Peli+hts3500s risc the stammering came down to a level very close to V37.
I do believe that the stammers are directly related to subtitle size.
I'm preparing a .srt for that intro with subtitles of increasing sizes to see if I can get to a conclusion regarding the number of characters that won't cause stammering.
Another thing, did you notice the blocks that remain on the image between subtitle displays ? As if a buffer was not cleared or something?
All the best,
Sharro

So far peli has made only one version for dvp720, so...
And no, I didn't notice any remaining blocks on the image between subtitles... Geez, it's like we're talking about 2 different machines here. What player do you have?(servo and ECO board) Mine is old servo (03.15) and ECO 13

DPV 720SA/02 the first one someone ever bought in Portugal, it's even older servo than yours. How can I check ECO board ?

I think by pressing DISPLAY with the tray open. It should display something like:
SD6.1 V37 720 - 00 2 13
SERVO: 03150000 REG:0
13 is the ECO board version

Why are you depressed? That doesn't mean it's worse than mine; it means that the firmware is not "Made by New Age", for to be perfect ;)

I bought a few Verbatims DVD-R DL, my writer doesn't support them :stupid: so... I'm gonna change the writer but the doubt came to my mind.
Anybody can confirm if it supports DVD-R DL ?

Stuttering/Stammering went to an unoticeable level.
Packed Bitstream is no longer a problem.
DVD playback has improved.
We're getting closer and closer to a great fw.
All the best.

Hi Ppl,
Just announcing that new fw has been released by Peli (v 02) at:
http://videopeli.szm.sk/subory/dvd_en.htm
I've tried his V01 with the HTS3500S risc (for packed bitstream and improved dvd playback) and in my opinion is the one with most user configurations available regarding subtitles, also has multiple divx subtitle selection.
All the best,
Sharro

What is the maximum resolution this player handle? Is 960x544 to big, or is it something else that limit it?

Final release of v2.10 FW for DVP720.

Peli's FW v. 03 is out, but there are reports that it may freeze your player, so be careful. See the softpedia-link for more info.

I've tried PeLi's fw v.2 and v.3 in Yamaha S550, for me it's the best fw of all philips/yamaha modified fws available. However, there's a problem - usually after several days of trouble-free usage the player switches itself off a few seconds after you turn it on. This error has been reported by other yamaha dvd550 users who tried dvp720 based fws but as far as I know there's no philips user who has the same problem using a fw from yamaha...
Any help how to solve this annoying bug will be appreciated.
BTW I noticed occasional freezes in v.3 too; there weren't any with v.2 fw.

forget about v03 from peli; it causes random freezes and turn-offs of the player. This peli guy might know a thing or two about customizing firmwares, but he doesn't know basic things, for example the replacing of the whole RISC instead of the replacing of the ARM Codes only, because ARM+DSP are related and work together.

Is there any difference in image-quality (mpeg2, divx, xvid etc.?) between these two firmwares?

Everyone is invited to try out Peli's latest version from here (http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?showtopic=259&st=560&gopid=24341&#entry24341) , it works flawlessly on my machine for several weeks now.

Alexander :-) You're still kicking!
My Dvp720 is still kicking but now I also got a 5960/12 to play with.
I've been searching for information about Aspect Ratio flags on any of the two as I'm considering to move to anamorphic encoding, have you tested recently these with avi files ?
Any help appreciated.

Sharro

Just an alert here!
A 2 pass encode with didee's 6of9 to test in my standalones together with Heini's (with inter-matrix 15's replaced by 16's), results:
Philips DVP720SA/02
===Heini's Intermatrix Min 16 -> perfect play
===Didee's SixOfNive hvs -> artifacts on video (blocks)
Philips DVP5960/12
===Heini's Intermatrix Min 16 -> perfect play
===Didee's SixOfNive hvs -> perfect play
Video was 704x288 pixels Xvid 2BF, QP, PB, Chroma Optimizer, Trellis with 1593Kbps set for the second pass.
A pitty my good old DVP720SA/02 is beginning to age.
All the best,
Sharro
