I captured the file 5 times with V33.
I can only find one subtitle that is sometimes smooth: "O IMPERIO CONTRA-ATACA", thats all.
Its also the first time i seen that there is more than 1 frame duplicated.
So its a very good test file...
I also checked with my Yamaha V34. Around half of the subtitles are smooth with this player.
Sharro@Home
9th January 2005, 14:03
Zhnujm could it be that the duplicate frame captured is in fact a stop in the original (if there is a stop wouldn't be captured as a repeated frame)?
Cause looking carefully on TV I only see stops/stutters.
I think we should exclude the custom quant matrix as a source for this problem, otherwise it would also occur without subtitles being displayed.
All the best.

Yes, of course. The movie stops and the actual frame is repeated during capturing.
Sometimes with your file even more than one frame so the movie must stop for more than 40ms.

I have a Philips DVP762 with V27 software. Only for 2 days... :(
It doesn't shutter, stammer whatever...
I'll try this SW intro.
new_age
15th January 2005, 21:17
I tried V36 for DVP762.
I don't see any shuttering/stammering that were obvious with LX3900 V36.
I even tried this SW intro. There is no shuttering but the blocking is there until next keyframe.
If I'm right this fw is worth to be checked regarding subtitle/frame shuttering.

I can check this weekend only with my Yamaha (works with this firmware) but i agree its much much better than the 720 v33.
But not perfect.
Seems it is much faster at displaying subtitles.
For example, the "O diabolico Darth Vader, obcecado em encontrar o jovem Skywalker..." needs 4 frames in the 720 firmware to appear on the screen and only 2 frames with the 762 firmware.
new_age
15th January 2005, 23:14
So there is a hope for a good firmware...
Sharro@Home
16th January 2005, 10:55
As I understand very well the difference between the 2 and 4 frames stop, I can say that along this movie the majority of the stops is a 2 frame one so... my family, myself and ALL users beg for the good attention to this FW :D
Will 762 work on 720?

Still in search for a better DVD-Video firmware for the DVP720, I have
tried some new firmware merging.
I was reading at the doom9 forum that the firmware for DVP762 v36 was
much better performing than DVP720 v33, so I tried this on my player.
Well, the DVP762 firmware goes perfect into the DVP720, with the
following exceptions:
1.
Upgrade filename will be DVP762.BIN after upgrade (this is easy to change)
2.
SACD is not there anymore
3.
Analog multichannel is not enabled. This is also good for the people
that are anoyed by the blue surround LED comming on all the time.
The good thing is that DivX with subtitling and MP3 is working fine.
OK, my next try was to exchange the 8032 block with the block from DVP720.
The result is now:
1.
DivX is working, but no subtitles.
2.
SACD is now working
3.
Multichannel is switched on, but I have not tested if it is realy working.
So...
What neads to be fixed is the DivX subtitling, and we will have a
better firmware for DVP720. With no DVD-Video stuttering when
subtitles are switched on.
Does anyone know how the ARM call is done for diplaying subtitles
within the DVP720? Is it any recommended doc I should read?
I think that by changing the subtitle call to ARM routine, maybe will
bring back the subtitles for DivX.

Hello!
I'll make V13 firmwares for DVP720 and LX3900 because this patch works for LX3900 also! (I risked again my player ;))
I even top aligned my subtitles (currently all philips clones have bottom-center aligned) to "increase" the display speed of subtitles. ;)
NOW we have a perfect player. I can finally sit back and enjoy.

Could you explain how you done this ? Or the position in the firmware so i can compare to the original Philips ?
I want to do the same thing with my Yamaha.
Unfortunatly i cannot use the ARM section of the 762 with my player. (funny as i can use the ARM section of the 720 and can also use the complete 762 firmware...) so i need every little improvement.

Can we know more about it ?
So in the end could this be a muxing problem ?
Does Divx Fusion support xvid ?
All the best,

Dont think its a muxing problem, divx fusion integrates the subtitles as bitmaps in the avi file, thats a bit different as the current external text files. I think xvid is supported but the muxing program does not support qpel.
theres more info about that in this thread: link (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88988)

(I was planning to post this info a bit earlier, but the 5 days quarantine of doom9 site for new members, made it impossible)

Does some of the new modified firmwares have digital out for SACD?
mosarella
30th January 2005, 21:27
Sorry, none of my versions do this.
There is some kind of copy protection sceme with SACD, and I don't know how to get around that.
I would also like to have SACD digital out. What is even more stupid is that for hybrid SACD/CD-DA, it is not possible to have digital out for the CD-DA (CD-audio) part.
If you like to disable SACD and surround decoding on the analog outputs, you can try this firmware:
DVP762_v36_for_DVP720.zip (http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=562)
See also here for some of my experimental firmwares (http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?showtopic=259)
It will make your DVP720SA behave like a DVP762, and I think you will get CD-DA digital out for hybrid disc's.
If there is requests for it, maybe I will upgrade this with the features of DVP720_LEE_V007.zip (http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=615)

Hi,
is it possible to implement a function into one of the modified firmwares for the DVP720SA to playback the stereo sound on S-VCDs via the player's digital output ?
If so, one would be able to connect the player to the a/v-receiver with just one cable instead of using a digital cable for AC3 and DTS sound on DVDs AND a simple analog cable for the stereo sound on S-VCDs.
Just my two cents...

Hello DVP720SA user,
Finally I finished my final firmware for download!
The firmware is available for both old and new servo units (shipped
with respectively v33 and v35).
What is new?
- STEREO output when multichannel is enabled
- Some people also report better CD audio quality
- Selectable standard or big font for DivX Subtitling
- Fixed DivX subtitle centering
- Heavy status icons
- Screensaver icon
And all the previous stuff:
- GOTO functionality by pressing and holding DISPLAY
- Modern file icons in the file overview
- Cool icons in the setup menu
- Standard or large font for DivX subtitles
- DivX subtitle position is lower for PAL television
- Widened DivX subtitle window for more characters
- More characters in MP3 information window
- Removed "ALBUM:" from MP3 information window
- Improved video stability during DivX subtitle
But watch your hardware!
[Note 1]
The firmware is available in two flavours:
Product types DVP720SA/00, DVP720SA/02 and DVP720SA/05 can handle
some special software and is compatible with MAD v06.
Product types DVP720SA/69, DVP720SA/75 and some DVP720SA/p00 cannot
handle this special software and need to be upgraded with MAD v05.
[Note 2]
When your player is pre-installed with v35 the player will not
automatically restart. This is because of an upgrade bug in v35 which
could also KILL your player. If upgrading succeeds the problem will
no longer occur.
Enjoy my hard work!
Greetings,
