Nope, thanks to growing up in the old days of MS-Dos I avoid having spaces in foldernames, especially when it comes to testing new applications in their beta stadium :D

Just numbers, letters and maybe underscores. Something like this for example: GHOST_SHIP or buffy_4_1_demux

Hi Zuel,

I've been playing around with your great (and badly needed) program for a couple of days now and I've been having the same problems as desribed above in regards to NM4U hanging at VobEdit for DVD's with multiple languages in the menus.

(Any way to get NM4U to create a log file when it runs to make it easier to track down problems ?)

I've tried to include as much info as possible below and it's in no particluar order.

At present I am trying to do MIB (original, PAL, R4) which has around 1.2 GB of extras in mainly in the VTS_01_0 and VTS_02_0 menus. There is another 50-70MB in each of the VTS_03_0 thru to VTS_07_0 menus.

VTS_01_0 and VTS_02_0 have ENGLISH, FRENCH and GERMAN languages.
When I select only the ENG in these two (the others VTS's selected as normal) NM4U will go thru all the steps (CCE etc...) until it hangs at an open dialog box in VOBEDIT waiting for direction to *.m2v file/s.

The actual NM4U window freezes and I cannot get there to see what exact stage it reaches. The NM4U app sits in Taskmanager at 100% of CPU usage and shows as 'not responding" in the APPS tab. I'm running it with un-checked for minimized apps. NM4U just goes to a white scren when it freezes at the Vobedit stage.

I can click CANCEL in the VobEdit dialog box and it then just opens VobEdit with nothing selected. I can then shut this down normaly but NM4U is still dead in the water at 100% CPU so I just end it using task manager. The folders seem to have all the correct files in them including the NEW .m2v folder which I assume means everthing up to the end of CCE encoding has gone to plan.

It is suggested to try selecting ALL languages as a possible way to work around for this issue. I am using v1.1.43 and for these VTS where there is more than one language NM4U only lets me choose ONE out of the three. I can have ENG or FRE or GER but not more than one. I can de-select the whole VTS by unchecking the top of the branch.

If I deselect these two multi-language VTS's completely at the top of the branch then NM4U runs like a charm on the rest of them and I get the little window at the end with the nice green ticks and a message telling me I'm a star and what to do next (DIF4U etc...)

I have used MN4U successfully on two other movies so far (Godfather Pt3 and Scarface). Again PAL, R4. These only had one language selection per VTS (ENGLISH). They worked perfectly (what a great program !!!!) so the issue seems to be only when removing languages.

My IfoEdit reports only version 0.95 when running NM4U. IfoEdit is running perfectly in all instances. Only VobEdit that causes problems.

I am in Australia and am only using the "ENGLISH" version of NM4U. ie - I haven't changed any of the language settings for buttons etc.

I have tried changing my screen res as suggested and am using one word folder names such as "MIBworking" without any spaces and in the root directory of the drive. None of these seemed to make any difference when I tested them.

If you need any more info just let me know. I'm only too glad to help in whatever way I can.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers...

News from the front: :D

No change of issues for me with .46 :(

When multiple languages are present, IfoEdit will hang after closing the file-open dialogue. No other windows appear. It also happens when I set it to take all languages.

When only one language is present it's demuxing, encoding, firing up VobEdit and then VobEdit hangs after closing file-open dialogue.

Update:

Hi Zuel,

I have tried NUMenu4U version 1.1.0.46 and as long I select the box with ALL (ie - all ENG, FRE and GER languages) then it will run perfectly right thru to the end.

I can also select and de-select the single language VTS's as required.

I can also de-select complete multi language VTS's. (ie - for my testing I am completely unticking / de-selecting one of multi language VTS's that has 740MB in menus and selecting only the other one that has only 370MB of menus (so it runs quicker)).

If I try to choose only ONE language fromthe multi language VTS (I only tried ENG) then I now get the IfoEdit hanging problem right at the beginning when NM4U is trying to remove unwanted languages using IfoEdit. (it just sits there at an open dialog box).

Let me know if need any more info.

Cheers...

servus...

I'm just wondering 'cause no other "non-english" user posted a problem 'bout that. Fourtyfour is also german, but he didn't mention having this problem 'til now.

hehe, I was on "vacation" :D (I think I need more vaction than before now)

I tried newest available beta.

Vobedit recognize streams, but on my movie, a synchronisation error from mpeg file comes up in a loop!!!

Only crash vobedit with taskmanager helps to stop this error.

any ideas ?

HI...
Hmmmmm Gr8 proggy...nice work man...
well if i request something will u add that feature .....i know t depends on wat the request it...but as far i can think....it is possible for the person like u...

ok come to the point...
i want u to add a option/feature to ur program....
which takes VIDEO_TS.ifo as input
Compare it with the given VIDEO_TS.ifo.
IF the menu languages of the given ifo is same as in input ifo then copy all the cmd of the correpondent menus unit LU frm the input ifo to given ifo.

now a question will raise WHY i want to do this, well i do some authring in which i create the stucture of the dvd in scenarist. So after the compling i use IFOEDIT to copy the cmds frm the original one to authored one.
And most of the dvds has more then 100 cmds , so its really killing me.Also ifoedit crashed sometime while copying cmds...so its all paining..
I hope i had cleared my problem and my NEED.
I am sorry if my english is bad.

Thanks in advance.

Zeul - Hi - many thanks for all the work you're putting into this 'last link in the 4U chain' [well, first link really, butcha know what I mean . . .]

v046 works well for me on most simple-ish PAL projects: the things I would like to see sorted/developed may sound like details; but I suspect they mean a doubtless tiresome re-think of the interface:

a) It's really, really common to find [say] an interlaced VTS_01_0 alongside a progressive VIDEO_TS & so on: since *.avs parameters are set globally, you have to run NUMenu4U at least twice, then [since it won't work to the same folder] move stuff across before you run DoItFast4U . . . and,

b) it's not too rare in PAL DVD's [especially the multi-menu'd 'Bonus' ones the kids like so much, & walk on, & use as plates & etc . . ie the ones you really have to back up pronto] to find a mix of TFF & BFF . . . again, there's no access to CCE flags [or, indeed, to the *.ecl's].

. . . so what I'd like to see is [say] right-click to a tweaking window for each menu NUMenu4U lists; allowing individual settings for *.avs & *.ecl parameters per menu.

. . . but overall NUMenu4U is a fascinating piece of work showing that VobEdit/IFOEdit can indeed counter CCE's GOBs by working entirely in the relatively small closed GOPs of a menu - great stuff.

Hmmmm....

I'm using .46 on PAL region 4 of Blackhawk Down, but am getting the similar problems as Grover was with VOBedit just sitting there. Could it be linked to the screen resolution as I read in an earlier post? Just mine is set to 1280 x 1024, and if I manually click open, it goes to save, but then comes up with a run-time 53 error, file could not be found. I've only played with it for a couple of hours, so I'll post back when I can give a bit more detail.

*edit*

As pretty much everyone else has said, very excited by this program. I've been putting my large menu projects asside up until now wondering what the best way to attack them was, I see this program as the last essential step in reducing original data size to produce trully excellent 1:1 backups. About the only thing from here is support for non PGC rips by RA :D

brashquido
11th June 2003, 05:14
Nope, same thing. I just tried using .46 on Sum Of All Fears which only has the one menu language, and it still hangs upon opening VobEdit. As soon as I click open, NuMenu4U seems to input a filename and path, then it almost immediately comes up with a runtime-error 53: file could not be found. It's too quick for me to read the filename and path. I'm not using a fancy pants paths either, just c:\demux\{movie name} where the movie name is 8 characters or less with no spaces. I've also tried using several different screen resolutions, but I didn't think that was a potential problem since a few releases back anyway.

Just tried another DVD. Changing Lanes PAL R4 with a 231MB menu and the program halts upon Vobedit being opened. Maybe it's the program versions I'm running? Apart from Avisynth (2.5) they're all the latest versions, and CCE is 2.66.107. What are those of you who are sucessful using?

I am getting the old problem with IfoEdit just sitting there doing nothing, except there is only ONE menu language unit. Using IfoEdit .95 and version 46 of NuMenu on Win XP Pro. Tried with several DVDs, all same result (so far I've never been able to get NuMenu to work).

Is there anything special you have to name the output folder (I am just calling it like "Movie\Menu")? Are you supposed to point to the folder created by DIF4U?

Grover
23rd June 2003, 07:12
Are you supposed to point to the folder created by DIF4U? I always thought you should run NuMenu4U BEFORE DIF4U.

NuM4U will start up DIF4U once it has finished and will set DIF4U to run with the "DO NOT CREATE VIDEO_TS FOLDER" option. This is because NuM4U will have created a "project folder" and pointed DIF4U to it. The folder will have the compressed VIDEO_TS created by NuM4U.

I've used NuM4U about 15 times successfully so far. And just as many times it has failed /hung/ crashed. Mostly on multi-language titles. But I just did Remember the Titans (PAL R4) which has only ENGLISH and NuM4U crashed / hung the first time I ran it (don't know where as I wasn't watching it and there is no log file produced). I deleted the folder and ran it again and it worked perfectly. No idea why, but it worked so I'm happy.

Cheers...

I don't understand what could cause synching issues. I just tried dvdshrink and it encoded the menus correctly without synching issues. I guess I could just take the dvdskrinked menus and replace the origionals, then encode the movie.

I could be wrong but I think the difference might be that NuMenu4U involves de-muxing, encoding and then re-muxing the video with the original , whereas DVDShrink does not use this method. I would guess that if there was any slight errors during the process then the video and auido could get out of sync somehow.

I have used DVDShrink as you describe a few times now for movies with large amounts of stuff in the menus that NuM4U crashes on (ie - multi language). Quite often you can reduce the other languages you don't want to still pictures and remove the audio and then you don't need to compress the English (for me) menu items or only by level 1 or 2 to make the VIDEO_TS folder a more reasonable size.

One thing I've found is when you launch DIF4U from NuMenu the VIDEO_TS.* files don't get copied over.. you have to manually do that

otherthing to watch for (at least for me) is the files NuMenu copies over are flagged read only...

So far I'm impressed, except for the fact Numenu is the only program that has ever ruined a DVD burn in process on my XP system. I have a Pioneer A04/104 and when Numenu starts up and queries the drives, it halts any burn in process with Nero. I verified this twice. Thankfully I was burning to an RW so I didn't waste a disk.

I was able to successfully process a menu. Some issues:

1) I have the 'frozen vobedit' problem as mentioned by others in this thread. It happens on my Win2k machine. It does not happen on my XP machine. Is there any fix for this?

2) When doing a single CCE pass, the Q factor is always 40, no matter what I set it to? I have the latest docce4u 1.5

3) (question) Does the program always create a 'non forced film' when running dvd2avi? Is pulldown being run after the process? I'm in NTSC land.

4) When choosing multipass VBR, why must I use three passes or higher? Often I do one pass. It gives me VBR encoding with predicatable file size, and I don't see a big difference between one pass and three pass. In any case, why not give the user the option?

Buddy

For some reason the program started to work on my 2400xp. But on both my computers I don't pass the vobedit anouncement that it can't find the mpeg stream and after that I only get vobedit errors and my computer won't get out of the program without the help of windows taskmanager.

Ok dumb question here...

Is the .ifo's that NuMenu generates fully compatible or does it need to be patched if your not resizing the rest of the VTS?

ok guys i'm back (sort of)
have been on holiday, moved house, lost broadband, no satellite TV... the list goes on.

But now I should be able to address many of the issues raised in the forum. I believe i have fixed the freezing VobEdit/IfoEdit problem and the multi-language problem. Correct aspect ratio is now set, frame diagnosis is now used. Other enhancements too.

All will be revealed in the next beta release.

I am a bit concerned by the out of synch issue. If anyone can spread more light on this issue it would be appreciated. (Is it NTSC only?) It could be an issue with pulldown??

quantum
16th July 2003, 00:14
Looking forward to the next beta. If by 'frame diagnosis' you mean something similar to the way dif4u figures out wether to use forced film, deinterlacing, etc., I hope you give some way to manually override and adjust the avs script. The automatic stuff rarely picks the right settings for me. I always double check the AVS in virtual dub before running it through CCE.
