View Full Version : New Major Release: DoItFast4U! 1.1.0

Yeah I've had this issue myself.
The reason why I haven't bothered to figure out how to correct it is that if you'll look in that IFO, that PGC doesn't even have a chapter/cell! So you can't author it correctly in Scenarist no way no how. I guess I could check for 0 duration and skip just so DVD Decrypter won't stop on you. Let me add that and I'll get .17 out so you can tell me if it works?

Not sure whether this is a bug or not, but whenever I run DIF4U and had the option check for update enabled, it always told me that there is a newer version of beta available eventhough I already got the latest beta. This problem only occurs since v1.1.0.13 (I think)
The other problems I already metioned in the previous post that when you click on the OK button to let DIF4U download the latest beta, the URL given by DIF4U is not correct, ie. the name of the file is there but the version numbers are missing (DoItFast4U.v..exe) hence internet explorer gave an error, and you have to guess what is the latest version of the program are available by trail and errors.

You're still having that problem? I think you are the only one in the world with that issue. I wonder what is up?
That first problem is related to the second. It sees the latest beta as ...exe apparently and understands that it is different that the current version so it thinks there's an update.
The big question is why is your machine acting so strange. Not a single other person has reported this!

My machine is a Toshiba Notebook TE2000 running windows XP if that help.

Well it seems I am the second person in the world. Normally I use DIF4U on my PC at home and I am glad to say everything is working fine. However sometimes when I am at work and I can't wait to get my hands on the new beta, I install it on my work laptop and get exactly the same problem as our friend Xitrum.
The Web Update box opens and says "An Update (version) is available"
I am running it on an IBM Thinkpad with Windows 2000 installed.
As I said earlier it is not causing me any problems as I do all my backups on my PC at home, but I hope I can be of help in tracking down the problem.

Hmm well the only common factor so far is laptops...
I will add some debugging code in the next build and ask you both to send me your log files... maybe i'll be able to figure this out. Are you both using pcmcia cards, modems, or internal NICs?
Xitrum
6th May 2003, 03:07
I'm using internal nic and internal modem
squancey
6th May 2003, 03:28
I'm accessing my companies network using a NIC, I have no modem installed on my laptop.
As far as I can remember this problem did not happen on earlier releases.

Xitrum: You don't have two installs of Doitfast4U? Maybe you are updating one version, but your shortcut is to the old version?
Xitrum
6th May 2003, 07:45
No, I already checked that and confirmed only one version was installed.

Hey Xitrum,
Just a thought, I have an English version of Win 2000 but there is chinese languages enabled because I work in HK.
Are you from this part of the world because I notice you have been posting regularly throughout the day or is this problem keeping you awake :D
squancey

squancey: Interesting. Is html the same when you have that enabled? If you disable alternate languages does the update work?
squancey
6th May 2003, 10:21
Eyes,
I've tried disabling anything to do with other languages but I still have the same problem.
Apart from the DoItFast4U directory and the registry is there any other files installed anywhere ??
Another thing I just noticed after uninstalling then reinstalling is that the Working Directory, Bitrate for Extras, and CCE Passes Main and Extras fields contain control/spurious characters.
The (Virtual) DVD Drive and Min. MB to Demux fields are fine.
I tried this on a couple of occasions and got the same results.
Just leaving work to go back home to my own PC, where I have no problems at all :D

I did a quick search in the forums and nothing cameup for this "bug". When using the DVDCalc after demuxing a titleset with an ac3 audio track of 384 kbits, I've noticed the video minutes is off by about 20 mins or so, which of course results in an incorrect CCE avg. bitrate recommendation. I'm wondering if the calculator sees these as 448 instead? It just happened to me with the latest beta with Shawshank Redemption and Three Kings. I am not sure whether this has happened in the previous betas or not. Something worth looking into.

Same here, the zero-playtime PGC shows no cell in IfoEdit, although it's listed as a own PGC.
What happens when I let ReAuthorist run over it, is a new Titleset with 23 PGC instead of 17 PGCs (as in the Original), so IfoUpdate gives me an error.
I don't know how this happens, I tested it twice and also took a look into the Scenarist Script to see, if the right assets are imported. Everyrything seems fine, but at the end I have six PGCs more in this Titleset than before.

Sorry, I missed your reply yesterday because it was after 5pm local time, and yes, I live in Australia, which is not far off from HK.

I have the same problem as well.

Xitrum and squancey: I recoded some stuff in .16. If the problem still persists, please email me log files.
squancey
7th May 2003, 03:08
Eyes,
Just checked .16 and problem still exists. So I produced a logfile and saw that it seems it may be a problem with the bitch of a firewall we have here at work.
Which e-mail address do you want the log sending to ?
Xitrum

Eye` Only,
The problem still exists and below is the content of the log file, but I can't see anything in the logfile that related to the problem. However when start up DIF4U I can see the following message in the message window:

You seem to be behind a proxy server, where direct http access won't work.
It doesn't seem like there's going to be any way around this, unless I work on switching from HTTP to FTP (Not sure if that'll work, but i believe it would)

Eyes,
Yes the proxy here at work is a pain sometimes.
Maybe if you can put a message in the startup script which mentions that the user may be behind a proxy/firewall if the latest beta can't be found and I am sure that will suffice.
Most users will use the app at home and therefore it is unlikely that they will have a proxy setup. As I mentioned yesterday I only encounter the problem because I sometimes check for updates whilst I am at work. I only use the app properly when I am at home and I have had no problems at all.

I'd doubt changing it to FTP would fix the problem. First I'd make sure "Use HTTP 1.1" and "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connection" are checked in Internet Explorer. TO do this goto Tools>options>advanced>scroll down to HTTP 1.1 Settings.
If that doesn't work try researching over at http://www.squid-cache.org

Good. less work for me then! :D
Well, at least now I coded DIF4U to recognize there's a problem and skip the update check.

Hey Eyes, I don't know if you've had a chance to check the DVDCalc function with falsely detecting the minutes for a 384kbit ac3 file. Seems to happen each and every time.
However, I have a few more gripes about VobSub just not being accurate that often. I'd say I'm successful with it about 75% of the time. Yesterday, I had big problems with Seven and Enemy of the State. I do exactly as in the guides and make a dvd image and run your proggy through that. Well, when vobsub creates the .sst, there are all sorts of time overlaps where one bitmap will start at 1:12:00 and end at 1:12:10, and the next bitmap will start WITHIN that previous timeframe. I then run subrip and everything comes out just dandy.
Now, I hope you don't tell me to quit using your tool and use subrip instead. I'm just wondering if there is anyway to fix vobsub with these issues specifically? I can give you more details if you want them. Thanx again!
can't we just leave vobsub, its slow and unreliable.... :(
plz

rkorkie: what ver are you using?

I'm using the latest beta .16. I always keep it up-to-date, unfortunately that seems to cause stability problems, but that is the risk of beta software of course.

If you email me a copy of the .idx/.sub that has that timecode overlap, I can get it fixed with the help of Gabest, provided that I can make the same issue occur.

ok, I will redo Enemy of the State tonight to get you that file.
The case with Seven is harder to reproduce. It is a DVD flipper disc, and I used Derrows method using Vobedit and IFOEdit to renumber the VobID's in disc 1 and disc 2 so that when they are merged, disc 2 scenes don't start before disc 1 scenes. But in the end, Vobsub totally screwed those subs up, not with overlap, but with timecodes completely out of whack, past the end of the movie, and with great gaps between sub times.
Another really good example is Mallrats. Vobsub screws that one up by starting the subs a couple minutes before the movie even starts. I researched this one, and yes, my timecodes were set all to zeros in Scenarist, and I even reset the internal timecodes of the m2v by running a pulldown with -nopulldown option. I don't have the .sub file at the moment as I don't have that disc anymore. I can get it though, would you like that one as well?

I need as many files as will show me all the symptoms, if one file won't do it then I'll need more.
As for subs starting before the movie, that was fixed a couple betas ago, I thought.

Xitrum and squancey:
In version 1.1.0.17, I've switched code to check for updates via FTP instead of HTTP. From what I've researched, proxies mainly focus on HTTP, so I'd like to see if the update function works now.
Also, I've corrected all issues with weird characters in the boxes of a fresh install.

Eyes,
Just checked version .17, and found that the weird characters disappear on a fresh install.
But unfortunately the update feature still has the same problem. An error box pops up "Error checking for Update".
The log file looks the same as the one I previously sent.
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Eye 'Only, I suggest that you read up at the www.squid-cache.org and associated proxy usergroups if you want to enable downloads through proxies. Proxy servers are governed by a set, or sets of rules which allow or deny access. For instance, downloading through the squid server I manage for work, I have no trouble updating my version, and that's going from version 1.1.0.16. It isn't as simple as setting the protocol to HTTP or FTP. FTP through our proxy is blocked to all sites bar those needed for work purposes.
For the amount of people who would download upates via proxy, you'd almost be better off just configuring some code that detects the proxy server and returns a message to the user that the automatic update may not suceed due to the proxy server.

Yeah that sounds fine to me. Guess proxied users are just gonna have to go to the website (I've included directions on how to get the latest beta now on my download page).

Sounds fine to me too.
Just do a check to see if an update is available, if it can't access just give a message saying so. Seems fair enough to me and probably 99% of the users, who access from home.
I know our proxy server/firewall is very tough to get around and rightly so, it should restrict the staff from accessing/downloading stuff from the net....but not me :sly:

Hey Eyes, for those people out there that butcher certain dvds (like me), and only want just the main VTS, or just one particular PGC which has the movie, audio track and subs, is there any way you could have a seperate option on your tool to create the CCEData.txt file separate from the option to create VIDEO_TS using unused VTS's? And thus, the CCEData file would be calculated based on whether or not you checked the VIDEO_TS option and/or what is checked in the DVD Structure box. I know the application can do it cause I use the DVDCalc with AMAZING results. Just wondering if you could make the option separate as I would really like to fully automate everything I do, especially when re-authorist gets released. Let me know if you can do this. Thanx.

As many know, my ideology of DVDr doesn't allow this.
I will never affix any feature that could be applied to assist the butchershop community exclusively. It goes against everything I believe in, and in my opinion it is a much bigger affront to those authors that have created the art (yes, it is an artform, one of which the less cultured may never appreciate and call 'worthless extras').
I realize some my feel that dvdr in general is an affront to the authors. It may be, but by keeping everything they've worked hard to do, we at least show that we appreciate the art. And when I put my backup of a DVD right next to the original, I don't have to worry about which one to grab when I want to view them, because there's nothing missing!
Members of the butchershop will have to use RA to hack up their art, if aquabubble decided to keep his features in there that allow this (I frown upon them, but it's not my decision to make).
WOOO!
Now theres an opinion!!!

@Eyes:
Very nice image, will you implement it in the next release? :D
I have to "confess" ;) that I also used to make movie-only DVD-Rs for the most part a long time, but with the "big three" it's amazing what can be done now quite easily. Even Season DVDs work out very fine with quite small effort :)
Amen :D

Hehe glad you like. I also thought of a cross with the DoItFast4U Logo on top..
So RA 0.6.1 is out now. I need quick feedback of how well the integration of DIF4U->RA went, as I am ready to finalize, as soon as I make sure that feature works well.
Those that do DIF4U->DoCCE4U, obviously don't need to reply as I know that works well :D
rkorkie: I need you to get those .idx/.sub files to me ASAP if the fix is to be included in the final rls!

Hehe actually I meant the integration between. The Global Options>External Post Process>Reauthorist feature. Sorry for not clarifying.
