I've just tried RC3. It works GREAT. But i had a problem. I was ripping a movie, and as usual i tried to use DVD chapters. I used frame selection to split the movie (great addition to the program; can you do it split the movie automatically in the chapters position?). And i got only 1 chapter in each CD. What went wrong?

Here are the logs.

DVD2SVCD log (i had to edit it to fit into the maximum number of characters allowed in the message)

I think the problem is in the chapters file. Have i done anything wrong?

Thank you for your answer and for a great program.

Maybe in the next version perhaps...not currently. Only way I know is to rip it twice (a) ch1-ch10 (b)ch11-ch20 with internal routines and batch encode bother rips (a) and (b)

a) I encoded "American Beauty" with Kvcd-LBR.ini, the final image size was ~802Mb, the chapters with VCDXbuild didn"t work and the quality is quite acceptable!

b)For the encoding with SKvcd template i used the Kwag recomendation:
"...Download the kvcd_lbr.ini and matrices.ini
Then change the GOP to 1,48,3,1,48 instead of 1,15,2,1,15 in DVD2SVCD.
Go to "Misc." and change to MPEG-2 encoding and then go to "Frameserver" and change resolution to 352x480.
Change the MAX bit rate to 2,500Kbps. Leave CQ_VBR. Don't change to CQ. I'm currently revising all template, and they will switch to CQ_VBR soon. It's higher quality than plain CQ more.
That's basically it
Now, you'll be encoding SKVCD.
Be sure to go back to the "Misc." tab and save your new settings as "skvcd.ini" or any other name you want."

The final image was too short, only ~760Mb, chapters didn"t work also and the picture quality was not good, but this is normal as D2S didn"t use the whole 800MB CDR capacity.

@VILLA21,

Don't try to fit more than 90 minutes on each CD-R with 352x480 ( KVCD_352x480 PLUS ). Do that only with the LBR ( kvcd-lbr.ini ) ;)

I have som trouble useing the R3 version. I've tried to authenticate several DVD's now (both PAL and NTSC) and every time I try a new one I get the message : "Cannot authenticate the DVD. Try either install ForceASPI17 drivers or maybe plat the DVD using PowerDVD or WinDVD." But my ASPI-drivers are ok (they always worked in preview versions). Also playing a part of the DVD using PowerDVD didn't help me much. Very strange...

I already converted one PAL-interlaced DVD, which turned into a very strange NTSC SVCD. Any suggestions here ?

I got that can't authenticate message too. I just ripped it anyway and had no problems. I know it wasn't "previously authenticated" cuz I just stuck it in. Perhaps the dvd didn't need any authentication.

I don't get anything different in my Framserver Tab. Just Simple, Bilinier and Bicubic. Here is my DVD2SVCD.ini (look at the bottom)

Are you using the latest beta version of dvd2svcd (RC3).

I'm using ver. 1.1.0 build 1 pre 22 Is this the new one? If not were to get the new one?
Thanks

Right. You need to download the latest beta version. Go to the advanced forum and you will find it on the first page of the help topic. It's a thread started by dvd2svcd.

Hey, great work with DVD2SVCD :)

Anyway.. I have found that, some times, subtitles get underlined (some of them anyway), I believe (tho' I'm not sure) that this occurs when DVD2SVCD is resizing or cropping them. I'm thinking that maybe this happens only when the lower part of the subtitle tuches the last row of the bitmap (before the resizing).

What do you think the problem might be?
btw, I'm using the default values for DVD2SVCD. Exept for chossing rip subtitles and SVCD subtitles.

(I'm attaching a zip containing images showing the problem)

OK, thank you.... I cant't stop saying: GREAT WORK!!

@DVD2SVCD and all,

Some people ( including myself ) wanted to use HeadAC3he with DVD2SVCD. I've written a small program just to do that. I know it will be obsolete the day you integrate HeadAC3he as an external encoder in DVD2SVCD, but in the mean time, we have an option. Here's the thread with download link and explanation. Third post down this thread: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1518&start=15

Enjoy,

Sorry, I forgot to tell you that.

The problem appears to be in all versions, since the first version I used up to the 1.1.0 RC3... Some times it does that underline and some other times (on rare occasions) the subtitles show a vertical line somewhere in the screen (perhaps the vertical line is something else, because it doesn't happen so often as the underline, tho' it might be rooted on the same.)

Thanks for taking care :)

Enjoy,
-kwag Sorry, but I will never support HeadAC3he as audio encoder. I have issues with the author and those will never be resolved.

Oh, and in that thread on your board, please make a note that if they do decide to use sweethead that they cannot expect support from me, I hope you understand.

Hi DVD2SVCD,

Ok, no problem. I understand. SweetHead is just an external "add-on", so if someone complains, then, as I said in that thread: "If your computer blows up, it's not my fault" (or yours either ;) ). :D

I was just doing an AVI and I don't do them often.
When I was editing the AVS file I noticed that Addborder was before the resize. Is this the way it's suppose to be?
I always thought the addborder was after the resize?
In my case it probably doesn't matter since it was 0 across the board.

@mark: Look at the order of your commands in the frameserver tab.

markrb
1st November 2002, 16:47
Ok, I get it now. I never knew what those green arrows were for. I always thought they were for scrolling through a longer list of commands if you couldn't see them all.

Did you take out TS and Sharpen or am I just missing them? You probably took them out ages ago and I just haven't had a need for them until now. I have a very blurry file that even though I know sharpen will introduce some noise it's worth it to unblur it a bit.

Yeah I saw that. I was just wondering about the check boxes that used to be there. No big deal as I rarely use them anymore and can easily edit the avs file. I was just wondering if I lost it and can't find those check boxes or if they had been removed.

I do not have the log to post but there was no chapter parameters in VCDXBuild report. Tried with 4 different DVDs.

Jack_Danl
3rd November 2002, 04:56
I have had the same problem with no chapters with RC3. I wasn't using frame selection, just normal encoding. I have included the logs in the zip file.

I see that there is a RC4, I will download that, and see if I still have the same problem.

mrbass
3rd November 2002, 06:58
ok gonna be ripping a whole bunch with RC4.
Maybe a bad observation (this isn't necessarily a bug per se..let's call it a feature) I could be totally wrong on this too.

Using frame selection I chop off a few frames at the beginning and set the end frame like 15 seconds after credits start to roll.
CD1.bin 825,077 KB
CD2.bin 822,514 KB

The reason I cut off the credits is trying to allocate more bitrate for video. However, it seems that when using frame selection the bitrate calculation doesn't take any frame cutting into consideration? Or does it? If it doesn't then it's no big deal I'll just not rip the last chapter (if it's entirely just credits) and put the Last CD Pic.

dvd2svcd
3rd November 2002, 07:24
It does take it into account, otherwise framecutting would be kind of useless.

Fastolfe
3rd November 2002, 08:52
I just did a quick standard conversion with the RC4 as I would do with 1.0.9b3 but the chapters are still not there but ok with 1.0.9b3

Just try to rip this movie again from DVD with internal routines. No other rippers than internal and vstrip are supported.

Q48: I have been having sync and other problems with VOB files I have ripped with another ripper, like SmartRipper?
A: Always use the internal routines or the built in Vstrip unless you have no other choice. SmartRipper and other rippers are known to cause issues occasionally with DVD2SVCD.

If you have already ripped the movie with another ripper, try to rerip the files from HDD with DVD2SVCD internal routines again, sometimes this works.

Hi DVD2SVCD,
Chapters work now fine in RC4. :)
Confirmed with the DVD ( Cinderella II ) which is mixed FILM/NTSC, and didn't work in RC3. The .cue mounts now fine with Daemon tools, and chapters work fine in WinDVD. Burned the image, and chapters are also fine and tested on 5 DVD players: Panasonic RP-56, Panasonic DVD-L10 portable, JVC XV-F80BK, Sony NS-300, and Panasonic DMR-E20.

Thanks a lot!,

Hi DVD2SVCD,
I started with testing the RC4 but 2 little Problems came up:
1. The rip option is aktiv (on GO) when i will start the conversion from a ripped ifo file (File Modus) and the rip is deactivated (on DVDrip)??
2. The Preview doesnt function anymore ? I use the mpeg2dec3.dll and in Version RC3 everything works.
Now I see a black window (No ErrorCode)?

The rest looks good, till now.

I am still working on an encode of Braveheart with RC4, taking quite a while like normal on this machine, but I did look at the log or at least what there is so far of it, and when it reported extracted subtitles there were 1610 english subtitles and only 9 french subtitles.

I will have to look into that a little closer. I seen that there was a post to redownload RC4 again for people using SVCD/CVD subtitles is that a fix? or for some other reason?

I killed the encode that I was doing, and downloaded RC4 again about a half hour ago. Still having the same problems with the subs, so I will paste that part of the log, and have to look into what exactly is going on.

Thanks DVD2SVCD,
I can confirm that the chapters are working fine now (with the internal rip routine).
Will recheck with DVDDecrypter later on just for my own understanding.

Thanks again,
FF

Please, DVD2SVCD... could you explain what have you changed in the subtitle part of the program? I'm running into problems with subtitles, but I don't know if these are related to encoding issues or troubles with my standalone, and since PowerDVD can not play subs, I can't decide.

@Jack_Danl
In your movie are two french subtitle-streams. Are there some scenes with foreign languages in this movie? Maybe you ripped just this stream and not the main-subs.
Try to select the other french stream in the subtitle screen that appears after ripping.

I had screwed up the colors in Selectable Subs. So please download RC4 again.

there are some french language scenes in the movie. but the two subtitle tracks for french are for according to dvd2svcd are 1 for widescreen, and 1 for full screen. I selected both English and French Widescreen. I will test it out with another DVD, and see what happens.

I can confirm that ripping with DVD Decrypter works with RC4 at least chapter wise. Braveheart worked fine, had a 4 CD encode (I changed the defaults) with 2 audio tracks and everything was fine with both WinDVD and my standalone JVC dvd player.

Sorry for the extra post, but just wanted to tell DVD2SVCD that you are doing a great job. One of the best programs that I have ever used. Thank you much.

1. Hmm, are you sure? When I do it here it works as it always have (I would be surprised if it didn't since I haven't touched that area since I made it the first time).
2. The preview still works. Maybe you're just unlucky and dvd2svcd shows you a black frame from the movie. Try pressing "New Frame"

I am going to try with another full rip. I am going to try E.T. special edition. Using DVD Decrypter to rip the dvd, and then use dvd2svcd to encode.

This is the most common for me as I rip from one machine and then encode on my faster machine but doesn't have a dvd-rom drive installed.

Hi dvd2svcd,

sorry, but it was activ ! I will try again with another rip an give you feedback. The "New Frame" option was already used, but the same to this point, I will try again.

Well, I've been testing with link2 and cce 2.64.01.10 and the result was that cce couldn't open the vaf file, even if I used vfapi frameserver.
I read at the readme.txt at the new RC4 that 2.64 has some weird bugs.

So, I use now 2.62.01.01 since with cce 2.66.01.04 can't open/load ecl project files (and this is useful if you want to let DVD2SVCD do all the work ;) ).

The frustrating thing is that the permanent subtitles that I use get chopped at the sides appearing the last letter at the begining. This happens also when I opene the wraped file by link2 with Power Dvd or Windows Media Player.

Is this a problem with the internal sub ripper or winsubmux? I am a n00b at this stuff so I don't know how to solve it.

I want to compliment DVD2SVCD for doing his work and sharing with all the people, thanks :)

I've installed again dvd2svcd 1.0.9 b3 and with the exactly same settings the problem refered before didn't occure so I guess there's a bug to be fixed. :(

I want to compliment not only dvd2svcd but as also all the other programmers and contributors to making this program rock n' roll
