The subject should attract a moderator or two :D Sorry. Anyhuu please, if you want, betatest the above, thanks. Any major bugs post them in this thread, but I beg of you, make as sure as you can that it is infact a bug

Great "subject". I'm no moderator, but I think you should be striked for making me laugh so hard my stomach hurts.:D About time folks regained their sense of humour in here.
On you mark, get set, test...And they're off.

Hello DVD2SVCD :)
I'm testing your beta release with 3 dvd's so far (only one chpater). Everything works fine with default settings and normal VBR mode (with subtitles, of course, you know me ;)).
I've tested also the new RoBa mode but it's not working perfectly. In these 3 DVD's i tested, only onde was successfully converted. CCE comes up with this error message:
cce_encoding_init() failed
Here is part of my log file (they are big now :p):

Yes, the RoBa method is quite unstable. All I can suggest is try using CCE 2.62 safemode, I believe Bach has had the most success with this. All in all I'd stick with the 4 pass VBR.
Edit:
Yes, it is definatly not good with a negative Bitrate. Maybe I should disable RoBa and do some testing on it. (btw, roba is actually not meant for chapters, but complete dvd's, otherwise I fear as in your case that it will fail)

Ok, i'll try to full encode one of those problematic DVD's and see if it goes succesfully.
Other thing, did you take a look at that Taxi 2 data regarding another subs issue?
Well, i have a workaround for those weird DVD's: use of textsub.vdf and a SSA file :p Just to check ;)

I really like the 'use frame selection'. Its perfect for the conversion of DVB-Streams.
Thanks.
edit: Very handy feature... but: (I know, free pie...) ;)
Only a suggestion:
Is it posible to expand the 'rip only' to 'rip & frame selection only'?
If I do batch encoding I can't select the frames before starting the batch, so I have to do it after evry movie seperatly and my batch won't finish alone.

I had to pipe in on Donnie Darko. Strange, but great movie. Real life brother and sister, play the brother and sister.
A quick neat note on that movie. The actor was on a talk show when he told the following story about his friends.
Warning: Don't read on if you wish to see this movie spoiler in post.
He said that at a premiere his friends where suppose to meet him afterwards. At the end of the movie after the main character dies one friend bent over to the other and in all seriousness said "I don't think he will be able to meet us now." His bud thought he really died. True story. Dumb friend. Great movie. Slow and plodding, but with so many layers of meaning.
Was produced by Drew Barrymore.

Just finish my first movie with the new version.
Great. No problems at all. I didn't use anything special, just the unfilter. Changed only the filesize, and the max and min bitrates.
It's really great to have the option to see where to cut it. Love it.
I encoded this movie 2 times before, with the previous ver. And each time, ended up with a very big file. (never happened before). Bbmpeg would mux the first part, then I'd get an error. Something about floating point. Couldn't do it manually because the file was way too big. Both times. Second time it was a little smaller, but got the same error.
Anyway, with this version I finally have it done.
I'll do some more testing in the time to come.
Great program, great features, great work. Thank you.

just dl b2 at work...then see this b3 post.
As we know from experience most newbies won't be changing default settings let alone advanced.
Does anyone agree to these default settings? I admit there's little difference in changing these
settings so perhaps it's a moot point and to no avail.
Is there anywhere on earth people can still purchase 74min (740MB) cds? I haven't seen any at stores/online for about a year now. Default all to 800 perhaps. Then again leave it the way it is otherwise newbies wouldn't know the versatility. I personally do 1cd,2,3,4,5,6cd in the bitrate settings. If it ain't broke don't fix it?
VCD-Settings.ini and SVCD-Settings.ini
How about DVD-Settings.ini could Fletch perhaps come up with a nice template of settings to be included perhaps? Perhaps next release then.
cce advanced settings
default should be Intra DC decision should be 8 or AUTO.
since SVCD are 2.6Mbps or less.
"Specify the bit precision of the DC coefficient of the intra-block in Intra DC precision in the video settings screen. One of 8, 9 and 10 bits can be set here.
In general the optimum settings cannot be determined since changes depend on the details of the picture and movement intensity. For pictures with intensive movement and fine bumps, a low number of bits is appropriate. For smooth pictures with little movement, a higher number of bits is appropriate. A low number of bits may be specified for use at a , and a high number of bits may be specified for use at a high bitrate.
When Auto is selected, the precision varies according to quantization scale. For details, refer to the guides on MPEG-2. "
Linear quantizer scale default should be [b]unchecked
"Setting quantization scale type
There are two types of quantization scales: linear and non-linear. Linear quantization scale is a method used for MPEG-1, where the quantization scale is allocated linearly. To set the linear quantization scale, select Linear quantization scale in the video settings screen. However, the nonlinear quantization scale is recommended unless there is a special reason."
default audio bitrate 128 bump to either 192 or 224
Will be experimenting a bunch with it in a couple of hours when I get home.

I have enjoyed very much your new beta version of d2s. However I have two comments about subtitles.
When you select several subtitles, the end time code of the last bitmap for at least one the sub files is wrong.
For instance, the last lines of two sub files for an encoded chapter using the last d2s beta are:
en200088.bmp 00:12:25,43 00:12:26,34 136 40 284 488
es100088.bmp 00:12:25,43 01:59:59,89 104 40 300 488
In the current version the subtitles with start time code smaller than four seconds are trimmed and
do not appear in the sub file because some standalone players cannot display them. Looking ahead, it
would be convenient to include them in the sub file since they do not make any harm when using Winsubmux
as subtitle muxer and in some moment might appear a program that shows subtitles on computers.

yea but that'd help people know the option existed for 90min but the way I see it is you either do 740, 800, or 900 and not mix match cd sizes but anywayz no biggie.

yea but fletch seems to have gotten it good. 4600 I believe in the bitrate tab, etc. Most will obviously just try ifoedit but if the main movie isn't under 4.7GB or whatever then resort to reencoding it via dvd2svcd or rempeg2 I suppose.
The new default is 192 [/B]
Are you triple sure? (if so I'm an idiot) I've installed b1, b2, b3 and each time wiped out completely the whole dir and dvd2svcd.ini ...each time it has 128 audio and audio downsample checked.

after reading the suggestions of mrbass, perhaps among the deinterlace options, the could be one with "keep interlaced", to the effect to apply no deinterlacing, to shut off zigzag and to shut of progressive frame.
Once I get a chance, I'll see if the field order bug is gone...

Once I get a chance, I'll see if the field order bug is gone... You must be reading my mind, I was just experimenting with it. All that is needed is unchecking "progressive" in CCE advanced settings. Maybe this should be the default value, it seems to me that the outcome doesn't suffer even when the input is progressive.

15th October 2002, 16:08
Well, according to the cce manual, zigzag should be off as well when encoding interlaced material.
I would like to have this setting, because I tend to forget my changed settings in the advanced menu. So when I do a regular progframe dvd, I mess it up, cause I have the stuff set for "keep interlaced" without seeing it.
The other related problem, which might be worth considering is that field order bug: The auto setting still didn't work properly in the last 109b3, I posted that a while ago. When I was having it on auto, Star Trek was occasinally strobing, aparently from reversed order. When setting it to B, all was fine. If this is a more common occurance, then error reports will flow in plenty when this "keep interlaced" is newbie-available.

1) many times I cut off credits of last chapter and my wife is like wtf is that the whole movie? I'm like yes. Or she thinks it's a 3 SVCD set instead of when it's really only 2 SVCD set.
2) If I put the Use ChangeCD on all cd's then they think it's a 3SVCD set when it's really only 2 SVCD set. (I cut and copied part of point 1)
3) this most likely is no longer never since Frame Selection cutting. Like leave 10 seconds of credits so one knows it's ended.
4) Once in a blue river, the last cd might be scratched and they don't know if it made it to the end of the movie. Of course this is rememdied by using ChangeCD pic on all cd's but see point 1 and 2.
5)my momma told me it never hurts to ask for surely thou shalt be rebuked and spit upon

so i noticed you added "surround2" to the besweet dropdown menu...this is indeed the updated version of dolby prologic 2 correct? i remember the last thread you mentioned to download resource hacker and do the edit ourselves, but is this fully implemented now? is there any other special things we need for pro logic II besides this setting?

Yes, Surround2 is fully implemented (no need for any hacking). Just keep the output as Stereo.

I think I found a bug in the vertical position of subtitles. When using cvd-subtitles it doesn't matter what Y-pos I set the subtitles-tab, winsubmux always muxes my subtitles at a standard position (I don't really know if this changes per DVD (I've tried about 4 or 5 now, both NTSC and PAL), but it's probably the standard position (-1)). When I look at the subtitle-ini (I don't recall the actual filename) the Y-position is correct, but the .srt en .txt files produced all have the incorrect Y-position.
I really hope this can be fixed in an upcoming release :D :D :D

AVI2SVCD doesn't work unless you have a suitable audio decompressor (for avisynth). This has been fixed in Beta 4.

There's a little problem in DVD2SVCD 1.1.0 build 1 BETA 3 when I try to Convert a DivX --> SVCD. When I hit the "preview" button DVD2SVCD says "Cannot open file ..DVD2SVCD\TEMP\preview.d2v".
And there's nothing in the DVD2SVCD\TEMP\ directory (no ".d2v" neither ".avs").
An other problem comes when you try to convert a DivX-Ac3 file. This is in fact an Avisynth's problem , maybe it comes from my computer:
When you Convert a DivX-Ac3 file, there's no problem till Video Encoding. And at this moment, it fails. The problem, by me, is in the *.avs script. I have to add "AVISource("....\....avi",false). If i don't add it, Avisynth says "ACM failed to suggest a compatible PCM format" . The sames append if I try to "preview" in DVD2SVCD 1.09.3.
Thanks for reading my horrible english ;-)

Three things must be set to maintain the interlaced setting:
1. Uncheck ZigZag scanning order (CCE Advanced Settings)
2. Uncheck Progressive Frames (CCE Advanced Settings)
3. Select 4:3 (No Borders) as the aspect ratio (Conversion tab)
I'll add the above setting to the list of Deinterlacers as "Keep Interlaced"

beta 4...128 audio is still default. vstrip is default rather than internal routines. VCDImager rather than VCDXBuild. CCE 5 passes rather than 4.
Bitrate Max. 2500 and Max. Avg 2500 (or did it switch when I quickly switch to TMPGEnc and back again?). Everyone will get the "The difference between Max. Bitrate and Max. Avg is less than 120. CCE might fail." warning. I thought beta 3 Max. Avg 2350?
If any are meant to be defaults then that's fine just pointing them out.
btw: use frame selection with batch ripping 'rip only' works great. Thanks for adding that. It's a real boon to all of us batch rippers. Is then anyway to enable us to type the paticular frame to go to in the 'Current Frame' box. I want to go to frame 150. But if I drag the slider one notch it's frame 358. That's a lotta single clicks to get to frame 150. Then again I just hit Play and stop so I guess that works just fine so forget about it.

All the values you have now is the same as you had in Beta 3 because there is no installation in beta 4 (just the zipped program), and dvd2svcd doesn't change the values which already exiists in the dvd2svcd.ini file, that only happens at the installation if the value doesn't exist in the ini file. That btw goes for all the values. The only way to see the new default values will be when I make the big bundle installation (upon release). But, remember to uninstall the old version then.
Just hit < or > for 1 frame or << or >> for 10 frames.
Upon re-reading this post I found it to sound arrogant which wasn't my intention so I edited it, sorry about that

Clixomano and I have made a new sticky here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35746 If you read that you should get an idea of how to add unfilter. Also read the readme.txt file in which I have described what I have been doing in this version.

@edwinver: Ok, now I know what you mean. Well, the thing is that there is 26 lines of difference between the preview subtitle pos and the actual subtitle pos when played on a standalone dvd. So I add 26 to the Y-Pos you select in the preview. That way the position should be the same on both Preview and TV.

interlacedresize(480,360)
addborders(0,60,0,60)
instead of 4:3 and keep the source interlaced. Interlacedresize is a feature of tom's simpleresize.dll. Well, now I have tried InterlacedResize, but that was no success, all I got was a _very_ shaky picture. Have you had success using it?

I wanted to change something in the "AddBorders" line:
AddBorders(0,^BorderTop,0,^BorderBottom)
the value of ",^BorderTop" and "^BorderBottom" are usually the same for me. SO i made this changes:
AddBorders(0,^btbb_value,0,^btbb_value)
so i just have to fill one parameter ;-) (I know, i'm lazy ;-) ). But it doesn't work very well... In DVD2SVCD, when I choose my script, and i want to fill the "AddBorders" parameters, the "parameter value box" open with 2 times ^btbb_value (I expected 1 only)... But if i change the value of the first one, it replace both in DVD2SVCD main frame, but in the "parameter value" box the 2 ^btbb_value doesn't have the same value (the second keep the default value) ..
----
Something else: I tried this piece of code:
1=LanczosResize(^tw_value,^th_value)
2=AddBorders(16,^btbb_value,16,^btbb_value)
...
^th_value=544
^btbb_value=(576-^th_value)/2
I was thinking "so i just have to fill the Target_Height, and the bottom/top_border will be automatically calculated, for PAL movies". But when i select this script, the value showed in DVD2SVCD mainframe=
2=AddBorders(16,(576-^th_value)/2,16,(576-^th_value)/2)
I'm sure that's not a bug, but i just wanted to know if it where [easily] possible to implement this sort of automatism ?
Thanks for reading
P.S.
maybe i should have post this message in the Dvd2SVCD's beta thread..
