But, just to settle this matter I'll just consider it the usual language barrier from now on and to stop this from getting out of hand (because I'm a hothead too) I'll just make it so that you'll also have the other avisynth scripts when reloading a project.

well, what can I say, you read it wrong, I asked the question having in mind that you may have seen it and may have done something about it in RC2. I dont have RC2 yet. People dont always fix bugs only, they fix things that may not have worked as indended etc, I think the latter a mayority.

Decided to try out RC2 by re-encoding the last DVD I backed up using 1.0.9 Build 3. What can I say? Amazing quality, and that new "Interlace" setting is a godsend.

I did have a problem with permanent subtitles though. Working at 720x480 16x9 letterbox (NTSC, borders added) with the Y-Pos set at 400, all the subtitles were chopped on the left and right. First and last few letters of a sentence were either absent or rendered incompletely. I tried different settings with no luck. I've never experienced anything like that before.

Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, but I'd appreciate a suggestion or two. Thanks in advance.

I'm curious if there will be an update to the Q&A based on this release. Seems like the frame based cutting and avisynth enhancements deserve some words if for no other reason than to be able to send the future question seekers on a merry quest. ;)

hitch you can bet your bottom dollar it will happen. It's been updated at almost every release. Just as many times to remove questions that no longer applied then to add a new feature.
It will not be updated until after the full release and until the people that do it have had enough time with the new version to explain it properly. We also wait to see if a pattern emerges of the same questions. Basically the most asked or the hardest to explain get put there first.

Don't be afraid to offer some words to add to the Q+A. If you feel something is missing then point it out to one of us. If you look through it you will see many addditions by regular members. To toot my own own, I even had a question added before I became a mod.
Many of us have very little time to begin with and members offering things like this are often a great help. However we do tend to edit and change it a bit so be prepared you may not be quoted exactly.

DVD2SVCD -

About the integration of others templates, now EVERYTHING WORKS FINE !

After put many matrices in .ini, changing correctly the bit rate max and min, VBF, GOP's, time by CD's and making CQ_VBR constant for the original template, and the BBMPEG settings for VBR too, all works very well, I test 3 differents templates, and all the 3 works well and very automated !

Only one strange kind :

When I choose DVD2SVCD trying many values of CQ alone, and the original CQ from template is 35, the program makes many attempts, and choose CQ=52,..... . The result was an total size of MPEG 1.9 Gb. When I force CQ=35, total size was 1.4 Gb.

I will try now modifying the star CQ from 60 to 40 and see what happens.

Anyway, your mods works very well, fantastic job !

Thanks

@DVD2SVCD:

Hi,

Please, if possible, change the spread value box from 60 max to at least 100 max. This will enable sampling a higher granularity window, and achieve higher accuracy in file size prediction. The current value of 60 is too low to sample with a frames per spread of 24, which is what has targetted a 1-2% accuracy with the avisynth formula below:

IL = Framecount / 100 # interval length in frames
SL = round(Framerate) # sample length in frames
SelectRangeEvery(IL,SL)
## MPEG size = ((Total frames/Framerate)/100) * (MPEG sample file size * .95) ##

It's better to have many more tiny window samples than less larger window samples.

Thanks,
-kwag

True, but in the old avisynth version there was a max of 60 trim commands. Haven't tested the new though. I did try SelectEvery but it was so slow that I never looked back, however I have not tried SelectRangeEvery, maybe it is faster.

But as you know I don't like own 500 dvd's to make a proper test so it all up for graps. I'll try your suggestion.

Thanks for your quick response DVD2SVCD,

We're currently using AviSynth 2.06, the latest version, and the results are amazing. I myself have tested about 9 movies with the current formula. All results were between .06% and 2%. 2% being the worst case for two of the movies. Other users have reported the same results. Even the movie "The Green Mile", which is 3 hours long, came out to -0.62% of predicted file size with the method described. I know that it's not 100% "bullet proof", but nothing is! Anyway, it's a superb alternative for multi pass encoding.
Let us know your results. I'm currently working on a bunch of .INI files that integrate each basic KVCD template into DVD2SVCD. That way users can just select an .INI file and go!.

Regards,
-kwag

@Kwag: Well, imho my prediction is pretty close too, and a change in this prediction area is a dagerous step to do just before releasing a new version. But betwwn this and the next release I wil have tested it properly and deemed it good or bad. But that shouldn't stop you from doing the ini templates.

@Back: In the next version I'll make size prediction for CCE one pass too.

Do you think it's agood idea and is it possible to put the Min Avg part of the Bitrate Tab under the advanced section and remove it from basic? It's a pretty easy thing to check it and not understand how it could mess you up.

Just a suggestion,
Mark

Well, as you're the only one (as far as I have heard) that has this problem maybe the problem is with your system. Another thing, this is a release candidate, not the final release. That means that there might still be a few problems to be solved. So, when downloading a Release Candidate you silently accept that. There is absolutely no need _whatsoever_ to use profanity. You have been striked, and don't _ever_ do it again.

"...it tooks much more time til he finds the ifo file,length and AR..."

I noticed the same behaviour of RC2, not 10mins as "pinheads" claimed, but for sure takes much longer to display the .ifo file, length, AR, etc, than the last release 1.09 b3.

I think the longer loading times can be contributed to the new Nic's AuthDVD.DLL and those who have many drives. I myself I have A: thru H: (virtual cd-roms, etc.) See my email I sent you about selecting a default dvd-rom drive perhaps. Or perhaps instead of having the user being able to select default dvd-rom drive just store it in dvd2svcd.ini so the next time it will at least scan that dvd-rom drive first. Or is this a request we should take up with Nic himself?

A small one: I was trying to add the RoBa method so I added the line "RoBa Visible=1" to the dvd2svcd.ini file as stated in the readme but nothing happened. Then I found another line in the .ini file: "RoBa Visibel=0" (Visible vs. Visibel) and that one did the trick.

EDITED: The second problem I mentioned here (now erased) was my mistake (wrong path to MPEG2Dec.dll). No need to keep it here. Sorry.

Thanks

I'm trying RC2 and using WinXP Home and am also having the long wait problem and the "failed to rip data" error. "Analysing Video, Please wait..." has been going on for 5 minutes now. My drive light is going and it seems like the DVD is being read, but nothing else is happening.

...I switched to vstrip and it started right away.

Also, just wondering where the Temporal Smoother setting went to? I know I can add it to the script myself, but I liked having it in the frameserver section.

It's not there (in other words gone)...I reckon the reason being there are numerous avisynth filters out there and tons of theories of this and that method giving this and that result. Geez, just look at dvd2svcd's cartoon example. I about feel over backwards trying to even comprehend one line in there. It's best to use it if your advanced (unlike me) and add it like it says so near the very bottom of the readme.txt.

From the Readme.txt just cut and paste the following lines to the end of the dvd2svcd.ini file and point the path to the MPEG2DEC.dll file in your HD:

[AVISYNTH_BicubicResize-TemporalSmoother]
0=LoadPlugin(!MPEG2DEC2.dll)
1=BicubicResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight,^b_value,^c_value)
2=TemporalSmoother(^Strength,^Radius)
!MPEG2DEC2.dll=C:\Programmer\DVD2SVCD\MPEG2Dec\MPEG2DEC.dll
^b_value=0.0
^c_value=0.6
^Strength=2
^Radius=1

After that you'll have another choice in your Frameserver tab named BicubicResize-TemporalSmoother (right after SimpleResize, BicubicResize, etc.). You can change the values directly in the script or through the Parameters column in the Frameserver tab.

Funil99 Do you have the vcdxbuild.xml files ?

Or perhaps instead of having the user being able to select default dvd-rom drive just store it in dvd2svcd.ini so the next time it will at least scan that dvd-rom drive first. Or is this a request we should take up with Nic himself? Nope I don't think that's that because "Analyzing Video" don't start before an ifo file have been found and when it has been found, only the drive on which the ifo file has been found is being authenticated.

Villa, Mordant and others you do have installed the ASPI Drivers, right?
And still I need to know what windows system you're using?

I've had the same problem when ripping from a (2pc)network drive.
It starts, finds the ifo and time, window "analysing video" stucks, I can start the rip but the window is still there. also it don't get the AR correct, but still possible to rip.

Both machines run Win XP pro, never had this prob before.
Seen it once or twice with dvd also, but don't remember details.

Hi,
I guess that's the proper place to post that. I've been playing around with RC1, encoding A Beautiful Mind. I like to have two audio soundtracks and two subtitle streams. Also I took advantage of the new feature to cut the movie at the point you want, using the frame editor etc etc. Well everything goes ok, but at the end the authoring process stops before calling to vcdxbuild! It ends up with a couple of .mpegs with extension .mpg-s1 and then DVD2SVCD closes.
Does anybody know a cure for that or why is this happening?
Thanks...

Ok, enough with the bug reports. I need all of you with problems to zip and attach your dvd2svcd.ini fil here also, those who has the problems with slow "analyzing video" please zip a bugreport here too. Or mail it all to me. But be sure to sign who it's from (your nick on this board) so I know what to look for.

@Fmazzanti: How many frame selections did you make?

A couple of them... Curiously enough (maybe that's ok but I don't know) the program generated three multiplexed files before muxing subtitles: one 50 Kb long, and two more of 898Mb (I use 90min CD's). But after muxing subs, only two muxed files were left... :confused:

I stumbled onto (possibly) a bug when using the recover-option (this was found in RC1). When converting episodes from a PAL/interlaced TV-series I found no problems using 'automatic' for field-order (it then used bottom-field first), but when I use the recover-option on the same episode (starting at the video-encoding-stage) leaving settings at 'automatic' it encodes the video using top-field first !

Try uninstall the entire program first and delete the folder, then install dvd2svcd again. I haven't tested the new DVD2SVCD on W98 that might be the problem I will do so.

I reported this as field order bug before. Your finding is interesting. Here is a more detailed report of what I did:

I wanted to create a test cd for Player-Shopping. I encoded 1 chapter of an interlaced movie at 2500 cbr and kept it interlaced. I copied the final mpeg into a temp folder, recovered from encode and raised the bitrate by 500 (cbr), encodd again and so forth. Finally the tracks would go from 2500 to 7000. Anyway, the first two encodes where fine, and then SOME where strobing (reversed field order).

I am not sure, but I belive that I had this problem once during the first run too, when doing an episode. Not sure on this one though, may have had to resume it during coding, which would fit the above pattern. I have since changed field order to B, since that worked without exception till today.

In RC2 the field detection is exactly the same as it is in 1.0.9 B3, so your last sentence I don't understand. Nonetheless I do not doubt that I forget to save the fieldorder in the project file. I will of course make it so it will save it.

Uyuyuy... I said nothing about chapters ;)
I simply said that:
a) vcxbuild is doing nothing. I mean, REAL nothing... when DVD2SVCD reaches the stage at which it has to create CD images, it simply skips that step and says that the whole process is over, and that shutdown will occur in 120 secs (I tell the prog to close everything at the end).
b) I find 3 muxed files without subs that at the end become two muxed files with subs (after the Winsubmux step is done).
c) I'm amazed about the program producing two muuxed files with extension .mpg-s1 at the end of the process. I guess that means that subs have been muxed to the video+2 audios, but I'm not sure (you know better than me=.
Ok, thanks for your help :)

@pinheads_hell your doing a multipass 2? with 3800 max bitrate and 3600 max average. What on earth are you trying to create?
NoOfpasses=2
CCE Image Quality=17
CCE Anti noise value=2
CCE Anti noise=0
CBR=0
One Pass VBR=0
Multi Pass VBR=1

MaxBitrate=3800

Danke mrbass. I'll try that tonight and see what comes out using RC2.
And DVD2SVCD... since you are the Macho and I pretty sure you're a bussy man, I won't send the dvd2svcd.ini file until I try out RC2.
If that works for me (I'm sure it will) Ill report here. If it doesn't work... I'll report here anyway and send you the dvd2svcd.ini file.

Please help :)
When I load this Script with fixed worth for the Becubic/AddBoarder Parameters -> everything works (Using RC2)

But in this Version: [AVISYNTH_Mpeg2dec3_Bicubic]
0=FILM = MPEG2source(!D2A.d2v,^PP_Efficacity,^iDCT_Algo,lumoff=^lumoff,lumgain=^lumgain,iPP=?iPP,showQ=?showQ,blend=?blend,iConv=?iConv).BicubicResize(^ResWidth,^ResHeight,0,0.6,^CropLeft,^CropTop,^CropWidth,^CropHeight).AddBorders(^BorderSiteL,^BorderTop,^BorderSiteR,^BorderBottom)
1=return FILM
!D2A.d2v=E:\1\DVD2AVI_PROJECT_FILE.d2v
^PP_Efficacity=0
^iDCT_Algo=2
^lumoff=0
^lumgain=128
?iPP=false
?showQ=false
?blend=false
?iConv=false
^ResWidth=448
^ResHeight=416
^CropLeft=17
^CropTop=76
^CropWidth=685
^CropHeight=424
^BorderTop=80
^BorderBottom=80
^BorderSiteL=16
^BorderSiteR=16 the last four variable worth couldn't be set in D2S Script-Setlist. Because, after one activation in D2S the Script looks like this:[AVISYNTH_Mpeg2dec3_Bicubic]
0=FILM = MPEG2source(!D2A.d2v,^PP_Efficacity,^iDCT_Algo,lumoff=^lumoff,lumgain=^lumgain,iPP=?iPP,showQ=?showQ,blend=?blend,iConv=?iConv).BicubicResize(^ResWidth,^ResHeight,0,0.6,^CropLeft,^CropTop,^CropWidth,^CropHeight).AddBorders(^BorderSite,^BorderTop,^B
1=return FILM
!D2A.d2v=E:\1\DVD2AVI_PROJECT_FILE.d2v
^PP_Efficacity=0
^iDCT_Algo=2
^lumoff=0
^lumgain=128
?iPP=false
?showQ=false
?blend=false
?iConv=false
^ResWidth=448
^ResHeight=416
^CropLeft=17
^CropTop=76
^CropWidth=685
^CropHeight=424
^BorderSite=
^B=

Why that ?? Did I ignore any rules to keep to ??
It's castrated :(

@eDealer: Nope, I don't think you broke any rules as such, I think maybe the length of the lines I load is too short internally. I'll look into it.

But one important thing, I do not think it is a good idea to use your own source (MPEG2source), because dvd2svcd adds it's own source and possible deinterlacer or ivtc.

I'm having problems with both RC1 and RC2 with a particular script to use Temporal Smoother. I copied the script directly from the readme.txt:

[AVISYNTH_BicubicResize-TemporalSmoother]
0=LoadPlugin(!MPEG2DEC2.dll)
1=BicubicResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight,^b_value,^c_value)
2=TemporalSmoother(^Strength,^Radius)
!MPEG2DEC2.dll=E:\Archivos de Programa\DVD2SVCD\MPEG2Dec\MPEG2DEC.dll
^b_value=0.0
^c_value=0.6
^Strength=2
^Radius=1

I used this script in two different computers, one with RC1 (High Crimes) and the other with RC2 (Scorpion King). Both performed as expected and after burning the images I tested the resulting CDs in my computer. Everything played as expected. However in my stand alone DVD player (Daewoo 2000) the movie plays in one square in the upper left corner of the TV (the rest of the TV shows the Daewoo DVD screen).

Next I used RC2 to do Titus (with the same .ini file), but this time I chose the regular Bicubic Resize option and a 4 pass encode. Everything was OK both on the computer and on the stand alone. So I conclude that the Temporal Smoother script I used is to blame since previous versions (up to B3) have worked flawlessly with TS. I'm linking the .ini and the log files for the 3 movies here: dvd.rar (http://www.maceda.org/DVD/dvd.rar)

Thanks

PD. As I was writing this I saw a problem with that script since we have:
0=LoadPlugin(!MPEG2DEC2.dll) and
!MPEG2DEC2.dll=E:\Archivos de Programa\DVD2SVCD\MPEG2Dec\MPEG2DEC.dll

However, even after correcting that typo in the script the problems still remain unchanged. Here is the lattest iteration of that script:

[AVISYNTH_BicubicResize-TemporalSmoother]
0=LoadPlugin(!MPEG2DEC2.dll)
1=BicubicResize(^TargetWidth,^TargetHeight,^b_value,^c_value)
2=TemporalSmoother(^Strength,^Radius)
!MPEG2DEC2.dll=E:\Archivos de Programa\DVD2SVCD\MPEG2Dec\MPEG2DEC2.dll
^b_value=0.0
^c_value=0.6
^Strength=2
^Radius=1

I don't know, but if the svcd played correctly on your computer then it should perform correctly on your standalone too. There is nothing wrong with any of the scripts you've posted.

EDIT:
On retrospect I now see what is wrong. You need a very important line in the script namely AddBorders(0,^TopBorder,0,^BottomBorder) so it is no wonder that it didn't perform as expected on the standalone.

Hi DVD2SVCD,
i have solved the Problem.

This Version is OK and works nice:

[AVISYNTH_Mpeg2dec3_Bicubic]
0=FILM = MPEG2source(!D2A.d2v,^PP_Efficacity,^iDCT_Algo,lumoff=^lumoff,lumgain=^lumgain,iPP=?iPP,showQ=?showQ,blend=?blend,iConv=?iConv).BicubicResize(^ResWidth,^ResHeight,0,0.6,^CropLeft,^CropTop,^CropWidth,^CropHeight)
1=return(FILM).AddBorders(^BorderSiteL,^BorderT,^BorderSiteR,^BorderB)
!D2A.d2v=E:\1\DVD2AVI_PROJECT_FILE.d2v
^PP_Efficacity=0
^iDCT_Algo=2
^lumoff=0
^lumgain=128
?iPP=false
?showQ=false
?blend=false
?iConv=false
^ResWidth=448
^ResHeight=416
^CropLeft=17
^CropTop=76
^CropWidth=685
^CropHeight=424
^BorderT=80
^BorderB=80
^BorderSiteL=16
^BorderSiteR=16

Yuo said:I do not think it is a good idea to use your own source (MPEG2source), because dvd2svcd adds it's own source and possible deinterlacer or ivtc. Thats right !!! But with this Script it is possible to speed up the CCE ~12% and set all Parameters from the Beginnig for a "standard" Film.
As I know, MarcFD is working on a Version to set the Parameter outsite of the mpeg2source call.
I hope it will work.
Till know i don't have checked the situation when i set the "use frame selection" :rolleyes: We will see.

Thanks for your Help

Hi again,
well.. RC2 failed with the same problem as RC1: it stops after the subs muxing stage and does not create any CD image. Actually these are the very last lines of the screen log:

Executing SubMux Commandline
"c:\Archivos de programa\DVD2SVCD\WinSubMux\WinSubMux.exe" "E:\Movies\bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg" -l "E:\Movies\Subs\SubLog2.txt" -s0 "E:\Movies\Subs\es1-2.sub" "E:\Movies\bbMPEG_Muxed_File-Subbed01.mpg"-s1 "E:\Mvies\Subs\en2-2.sub"

Muxing Subtitles finished
CD-Image creation finished

-------------------------------
-23/10/2002 7:33:08
-Free drive E:13459.25Mb
-SVCD Creation finished
-------------------------------

...and that's the end of it. But I can't find any .cue/.bin file around :(

And well, I've attached the DVD2SVCD.INI file as you requested. Hope that helps...
BTW, if you look at what I wrote few lines above, you'll see that the command that goes through WinSubMux has this ...bMPEG_Muxed_File-Subbed01.mpg"-s1 "E:\Movies\Subs\en2-2.sub" at the end. Notice that there's no space between the -Subbed01.mpg" and the -s1. AT the end I find bbmpeg muxed files with extension .mpg-s1 and no CD images are created... can the problem be related in some way to this?
Also, I start to believe that I experience such troubles because I'm using two subtitle streams. Maybe using just one wil hide the problems. Is there a way I can use the .mp2 and .mpv files to mux the whole thing with only one subtitle stream? I just did a 'recovery' and changed things in the Subtitles tab but the prog didn't pay attention to what I was changing...

EDIT:
Yes, the missing space was what caused the problems.

@Villa21, pinheads_hell and mordant:

Here's what I have found out. If you haven't installed the right version of ASPI drivers and you're trying to rip a DVD with a different region than the one your drive is set to, the "Analyzing Video" will stay on a long time. I will continue to investigate this. Keep an eye on this post, I will edit it if I figure it out.

EDIT:
However, if forceaspi17 is installed properly (and this apparently goes for all windows versions) dvd2svcd has no problem authenticating and analyzing the video. Next: I'll try and region lock my drive and see how that goes.
