-Any option to select the streams including an option for none? Haali has a neat little tray icon for this. This is less important than the default issue to me. Simply wondering if you had plans for anything like it.

Did you use win7 tweak tool (http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_preferred_filter_tweaker.htm) ? Anyway i'll check that and post results later on.

No, you set win7dstweaker to use ffdshow, and then ffdshow will use SMM splitter.

oh ok thanks samurai, so let ask you something, for example i register the mpc-hc codes and i only install ffdshow audio decoder, i never install video decode and it work fine on win7 media center, do i have to install ffdshow video decode if i use SMM Spliter?

Shouldn't have to. It should work the same way as the MPC-HC splitter....in theory. :D I use the ffdshow dxva video decoders for VC1/H264 in my setup so I have both.

That's what I did to get it to work. I use the ffdshow dxva video codec for both WMP and 7MC. Works great. And works with whatever splitter I choose as default. I have a batch file that unregisters the current splitter and registers the one I select to avoid conflicts. The 3 I use are SMM, MPC stand alone, and Haali.

I'm not at home right now and don't have any MKV's on my laptop so I can't test it for you. I'm not 100% sure I tried 7MC with SMM. I know for a fact it works for me in WMP.

WMP work fine for me also but not media center, also on WMP bitstream don't work on my GTX 460, but whit MPC-HC codes and ffdshow bitstream fine

try to install K-lite 64 bit (http://www.codecguide.com/klcp_64bit.htm)

in Start->All Programs->K-Lite Codec Pack x64->Tools use win7DSFilterTweaker to select ffdshow and to disable all microsoft decoders and wmf filters.

Then register smm mkv splitter

in Tools there are graphstudio app try render file in it to see which filters used if this doesn't help.

I' ve checked it on my win7 64 Media Center - it works.

It can be because of header stripping feature if file was muxed with mkvmerge (which is enabled by default). There will be next release soon which fix such problems.

I am encoding HD movies. I have some questions.

1. I've read all post of this thread, and I understand that with your splitter I can play mkv files on my PC. Did you test created from your muxer mkv's on hardware MKV players like WDTV or PCH?
2. I am doing also 2in1 encodes - using Ordered Chapter Files integrated to MKV's. How we create these chapter files: please look at HERE (http://mod16.org/hurfdurf/?p=8) .

I'll test your splitter to play MKV files.

In the near future, I am planning to make 2in1 encodes again, and at this time, this encodes requires Haali Splitter.

Maybe implementation of this issues can do SMM Spliter more usefull for all of us.

No, i didn't test it on any hardware, but there is mkv validator tool which i use to validate smm muxer output. If there are any problems with it - you can describe it, if i can help without any hardware i will.

What does "2in1" mean?

I've read about editions and ordered chapters. Thanks for link. This feature enables looping encoded fragment with providing virtual timeline. Splitter should position to real timeline according to virtual one which is shown in viewer. + there can be parts from other files in chapters. Is this an issue?

For now splitter can just display chapters in props no more. I will add this issue to roadmap.

2in1 mean: In one encode you can find an Extended Cut (Default) & Theat Cut of one movie. With adding to MKV files Ordered chapters files we can determine which frames will be playing during viewing.

Very nice filter. With advanced chapters support it would be quite competitive to haali splitter.

First spots:
- styled subtitles arent styled :) (these with additional fonts),
- when disable subtitles theres no effect, i need to seek to make them disappear, but enabling them back dont seem to show them again,
- none of stream has any name.

I will test some more in near future.

You need to add a title to the subtitles when authoring them. However, that being said, it should display the lang of the track which it's not doing. I need to remake one of mine and set the defaults to see if that's working. MakeMKV just sets the default and calls it good which is bad. In that case, I'd love to have SMM put in an option for "NONE" so we can select that and turn off subs without disabling it in ffdshow.

MKV file with header removal compression on h264 plays ok.

SMM has problems with zlib compressed streams. Any more work needed on it than on header removal?

Does that splitters shows PGS subs at all?

Use MPC-HC go to Filters>>>SmmmatroskaSplitter, hover mouse over it and "menu" will appear. Then you see A/V/S info. Last position in Subs menu is No Subtitles. This one disables them. If you have more no named subs, all are "No sub".
Its just like in any other filter haali eg.

Except I'm not using MPC-HC. :) I'm using FFDSHOW for dxva, subs, and bitstreaming in WMP. And in ffdshow I only get the one subtitle and that's it.

This is fault of the filter that displays subtitles i suppose (ffdshow or other ) Render file in graph studio and check

Yes, there are some problems when using ffdshow to display subtitles (e.g. haali doesn't use it - it inserts vobsubs filter) may be i'll do that too.

SMM splitter displays stream name which was set while muxing mkv file. If it was empty - nothing displayed. So there needs to add language of the track additionally to stream title. This will be done in next release.

there is no zlib commpression support for now. PGS if its not compressed - should work. If not - provide Codec ID for this track (MPC-hc "File->Properties", "MediaInfo" tab) and/or problem file.

There is some misunderstanding in my mind about Forced Flag, I thought that it like FlagDefault but provide one more level to override. Now I've understand that if track marked as Forced it MUST be played (like written in matroska spec :) ) This means, if subs are enabled and there is forced subs tracks, there will be 2 subtitles tracks to be played ?

I checked the Codec ID from the MediaInfo tab as you instructed; it shows "A_TrueHD".

Also, in case this is any help, when I go to Filters->SolveighMM Splitter, it is showing both the video and audio streams.

Lastly, I have the same issue whether I use MPC or WMP - neither player will pass the TrueHD audio.

smm splitter for now doesn't use vsfilter. to enable subs if you use ffdshow open it's properties and check Subtitles to display.

smm splitter recognizes "A_TRUEHD", and your file contains "A_TrueHD" - this cause the the problem i suppose. can you use mkv validator (http://matroska.org/downloads/mkvalidator.html) tool and mkclean tool (http://matroska.org/downloads/mkclean.html)
The codecs spec (http://matroska.org/technical/specs/codecid/index.html) doesn't say anything about case sensivity and for now there is no A_TRUEHD at all.

Hmm. I downloaded the two tools, but I don't know how to extract/use them. They are filetype bz2?

Also, I found a workaround for my issue:

With the movie playing, I right click > filters > SMM Splitter > Properties. Then, Pin Info > [OUT] Audio 0. Under AM_MEDIA_TYPE, it shows "subtype: Unknown GUID Name {EB27CEC4-163E-4CA3-8B74-8E25F91B517E}"

I pasted that GUID into ffdshow's Media subtype, and ffdshow loaded.:)

The only problem then was that Reclock was trying to load, so I had to select in ffdshow "Connect to 'DirectSound'" instead of "Any filter". After changing the "Connect to" setting, Reclock no longer loads, and everything works fine now.

If you can show me how to extract the tools you mentioned, I certainly don't mind. I'd like to help in any way I can.

EDIT: Took another look at the tools and noticed the binary download - I'll run each of them and let you know the results.

No, that's not how it should work in my mind. If a subtitle track contains forced subs, the forced subs should play even if the subs are set to none. If the track is selected, then ALL the subs in that subtitle track should play. (In PGS subs, you can have both forced and non-forced subs in the same subtitle track...they are simply flagged as such). Most of us are extracting the subs with forced flag inside a regular subtitle into a separate subtitle track containing just the forced subs. This is fine and we can continue that route no problem. I guess if we set that to default there really isn't a problem. In any case, what I was saying about forced subs embedded in a regular subtitle track is simply what happens when playing a blu-ray. A good example is District 9. They embed forced subs for foreign language inside the regular sub track. So if no subs are selected, just the forced subs from that track play. If the sub track is selected, then all the subs from that track play. If that can't be done in MKV, that's ok. I just thought it would be a useful feature. MakeMKV can extract the forced subs into a separate track, so, not a big deal.
