That card has the VP2 decoding engine that you require.

You can test it using the CUVID server/client applications at my web site. They are not licensed. You can find them at the bottom of this page:

A definitive "Purevideo HD" card list can be found on this page (http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo_HD.html) in a PDF file in the column at left "PureVideo HD Support Table" (which BTW confirms the above). Maybe neuron2 you'll want to link to the doc from yours.

BTW I have a 9600GT (and Q6600 cpu/mobo) on-the-way so you sold another card and I'll be donating once the system's built! :)

Note that Purevideo HD != VP2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PureVideo#Naming_confusions
The table you mentioned is somewhat incomplete for checking VP2 availability since it doesn't separate between different GeForce 8800 models, some of which do have VP2. The Wikipedia article lists these and also some of the GPUs that have VP3, i.e. full hardware decoding of VC-1 streams (not that it matters much since DGVC1DecNV works fine with VP2).

I guess there is no "definitive list" and I'm disappointed Nvidia's product manager(s) don't publish something more complete...

EDIT: I guess the wiki page *IS* complete assuming VP2 is the magic bullet. It's easy to get distracted by all the "PureVideo HD" qualifiers.

VP2 is the magic bullet One needs VP2 or greater, e.g., VP3.

Here is a test version of DGVC1IndexNV.

* Support new audio types on BluRay disks.

* Improve audio delay calculation.

Don't freak out if your machine ID changes. Your old license file will continue to work. New licenses, however, will use a new ID method that doesn't change when you reformat, boot a different partition, change drives, etc.

http://neuron2.net/dgvc1decnv/DGVC1IndexNV102test.zip

Feedback on this version will be appreciated.

i have a quick question.

i currently have 2 x 8600gs cards @ 512mb each.

i wanted to know if the encoding speed would increase if i got myself a 9800gtx @ 512mb?

my local store has got this bfg 9800gtx oc'd card for sale @ 97 quid which is really tempting me..

rica
6th January 2009, 18:41
DGVc1DecNV uses nVidia's HW decoder, doesn't encode anything. So nothing will change.

~bT~
7th January 2009, 17:34
^ i was thinking that if the decoding speed increases then maybe it would increase the encoding speed.

Guest
7th January 2009, 17:36
As discussed several times, any gain for transcoding will typically be small, because decoding time is small compared to encoding time.

~bT~
7th January 2009, 17:42
^ cheers. u saved me 97 quid :D

1. Added support for the new audio types found on BluRay disks.

2. Improved the audio delay calculation.

3. Fixed incorrect handling of field-interlaced streams.

4. Machine ID now not tied to system partition, so machine ID changes will be rare.

5. Updated the CUVID Server to 1.0.3.

Well, functionality wise, perhaps not. But you'd be amazed how much coding and testing went into this new version.

When I run the server, then start the client and open the jessejames.clip.m2ts from the 2nd post in this thread, nothing happens. The client window is blank and clicking the reset or step commands doesn't do anything either.

The server runs and shows up in the menubar, and is using the nvcuvid.dll successfully.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks

And EAC3.

Guest

Am I missing something obvious? First, the client supports only elementary streams, not transport streams. Second, the client is compiled for AVC clips. You have to rebuild it for VC1. I'll add an option for VC1 and release that today. Third, the first frame of that clip is a black frame!

EDIT: New version of the CUVID Client is uploaded.

Both of your NV tools succesfully extracts BD audio files:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3885/dg002el1.th.png (http://img80.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dg002el1.png)

The question;
is it technically possible of DG to extract embedded ac3 (together with thd) or core dts (core of dts-hd) as well?

Guest

Sorry, rica, but I don't understand your question. Can you clarify it please?

jj666
12th January 2009, 08:18
He's talking about downconverting the audio - instead of demuxing the full HD audio track data, to allow the standard AC3 (Blu-ray TrueHD) core or standard DTS (DTS-HD) core to be taken out from the audio data (as you can do with TSREMUX/TSMUXER/EAC3TO etc). It would certainly be a useful feature.

Cheers,

-jj-

I don't see why an indexing application should offer anything more than simple audio demuxing... eac3to can do audio conversions perfectly. Neuron2 can focus on other things.

My friend,
madshi always suggests to figure out things in one step using just one application; remember?
So why do i use eac3to as a second application :p

It was just a feature request. :)

nautilus7
12th January 2009, 21:56
No, i don't remember madshi saying that. He told you to use only eac3to to do a very specific thing you wanted to do, and not any other app.

But anyway... I just expressed my opinion, not hurt feelings. Why asking neuron2 for a feature that another tool can do with enormous success? You can ask him for something that can't be done with any other freeware tool. E.g add .mkv reading support in his apps.

rica
12th January 2009, 22:02
I don't wanna go off the topic but let me remind you:
eac3to > raw media extraction + MkvMergeGui > remuxing to mkv.
(instead of those two applications, madshi insists on using one application: eac3to, correct?)
If eac3to is functioning as a remuxer (-using haali) as well why do you querry?
BTW this is not eac3to topic.

nautilus7
12th January 2009, 22:25
It seems you never get what i say... Are my English bad?

I remember exactly what madshi suggested YOU SHOULD DO IN YOUR SPECIFIC CASE. But he NEVER said that GENERALLY one should use one app instead of 2 or more, LIKE YOU IMPLIED.

I said that there are alternatives and very good ones to do audio conversions and that it doesn't worth the effort/time to implement such features here.

Then you began talking about how you did your mkv muxes. So, you're off topic here, i just said my opinion about a feature request.

I'm out of here now.

12th January 2009, 22:29

I don't see anything wrong with asking for the demuxing to extract core audio if possible. I'll look into it, just as I am looking into supporting MKV. I'm open to any and all feature requests and appreciate all feedback.

Searched the thread but couldn't find anything about that, but -- Is there something EXTRA that HAS to be installed NVidia-wise? I've tried to get it working on a Macbook Pro (Bootcamp XP) with a 8600M GT which should be working according to the PureVideoHD table, yet, I still get only an error message.

EDIT: In case there is, maybe we should quick-summarize the setup.

What error message are you getting?

Hmm, installed the latest "notebook drivers" from NVidia site. Now, by search path, do you mean the set variable "path"? (like set path=so and so in the DOS days, now found in I did add the path to DGVC1Dec folder (where nvcuvid.dll is residing), still I get "GPU decoder: Failed to create video decoder [100]".

Tried an elementary VC1 stream, demuxed from an HD-DVD EVO file by EVODemux. Should I try a different demuxer?

I mean put the DLL in your system32 directory.

What is Bootcamp XP and what is a Macbook? If this is not running on stock Windows I'm afraid you are on your own. CUVID requires standard DirectShow stuff.

Leak

What is Bootcamp XP
Bootcamp is Apple's utility to install Windows on a Mac (mainly a fancy bootloader + some drivers because Macs don't have a BIOS)...

and what is a Macbook?
Some fancy notebook with a logo of an apple that someone took a bite out of already... :D

If this is not running on stock Windows I'm afraid you are on your own. CUVID requires standard DirectShow stuff.
Well, it IS a standard Windows installation...

Guest

Put nvcuvid.dll into the sytem32 directory and install the latest Nvidia drivers. If that doesn't work run the CUVID sample decoder from the CUVID SDK. If that doesn't run contact Nvidia for support. If it does, post again to let me know.

resonator

After doing some research it seems as if the problem lies with XP and notebook graphics. I had problems like that before audio-wise (I use DAWs a lot, both Cubase and Pro Tools), but so far nothing in terms of simple video-playback. Anyway, I was advised to install Vista, but I'll use the opportunity to install the Windows 7 Beta. I'll let you know if that changes anything.

Just an observation:
When the CUVID server is being used for an encode (application 1) and at the same time by another application 2 (e.g. mpc for viewing) both outputs get garbled (the encode and the playback), or CUVID may even crash.

Guest
24th January 2009, 21:26
You shouldn't do that.
