1) You can reset setting by deleting the MPC registry key: HKCU\Software\Gabest.
2/3) Those apply only to MPC-HC, not to regular MPC. So you are asking in the wrong topic.

I just want to say Thank you, clsid. Basically thanks should go to patch authors, that I know for sure, but your efforts are really appreciated and very much valuable.
Even just applying patches is really great sometimes (like celtic_druid was used to do that for ffdshow and other apps and many users in the world were greatly benefited). Those patch-works might be trivial for you, but not trivial at all for average users, really useful and helpful. Well, actually I'm talking more about VSFilter than about MPC itself, but I guess basically they're the same thing from your perspective of view.

MPC's internal OGG splitter is just for Vorbis audio intended, it cannot process OGG Theora videos like this one (https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/9/9b/Fedora-10-boot-with-plymouth.ogg) for instance, right?

It also works for video files. For example .ogm files with Xvid video. But it does not support Theora. That is why the internal splitter is disabled by default. I recommend using Haali Media Splitter.

Those files were old... originally developed by a person known as illiminable many years ago, even before Theora specs were finalized, I think. It seems that the original developer stopped development. (FYI illiminable was one of the first developers (or maybe the very first developer) who used the extensions .ogv and .oga, now official, but totally unofficial back then.)

I could not get the DS filters from xiph.org to work anyway. I tried it in a VM and the VM's video driver does not output in YV12 colorspace which the Theora decoder depends on (Haali's splitter+ffdshow's Theora don't complain). The package comes with splitter and decoder but there's no way to select only the splitter during setup...
Regarding RealPlayer: Yeah, that's a safe bet! :D

For future builds, would it be possible to change the version number to something like 6.4.9.86 (aka SVN revision 86)? Thanks a lot.

Here are my test results, with MPC 2008-11-15 (SVN revision 86):
6.9.9.9 : end-of-life (Media Player Classic 6.x)
7.0.0.1 : PSI crash (file ignored / not recognized)

I still think we should get past this 6.9.4.1 version number because it has lost all possible meaning. We should go up either one step (6.9.4.86) or two steps (6.9.86) or three steps (6.86).

Too bad on sourceforge the guliverkli project is considered "active", and the guliverkli2 project is considered "inactive", when it should be the opposite for better clarification about which one is the most secured version.

I notified them (PSI) about that a month ago. This was their reply:


Media Player Classic is detected as end-of-life because it is no longer
being maintained by its original creator. Other people have taken up the
project of maintaining the program under the same name, but technically
speaking, the program they now offer is not the original Media Player

How silly. I wonder if they don't know what open-source means. Technically speaking, VSFilter's original creator was not gabest, Avery Lee's subtitler, right?
Or, MKV is not its original project that is um... what was that again? TCF?
Or, how about libpng itself for example? Or many other examples...
Even if guliverkli was stalled, guliverkli2 is not. That's why we now have this cute {\blur} thing for example. and {\iclip} etc.
Personally I would hate to use any software created by someone who says such stupid things. Because their very philosophy is essentially wrong,
what their program would tell you would be fundamentally wrong. Like, just checking the version number string... and saying it's ok or bad,
easily fooled by for example a tampered troy that says it's up-to-date, fooled easily even by a noob-est attacker.

If you can install them does MPC work?I think it's statically linked, there's no MSVCRT imports (same imports as the older build which does work). The VC error isn't about a "missing function" or something like that, but an exception.

BTW, are these newer CRTs supposed to run on 9x at all? (I have 8.0/2005 DLLs, though I'm not sure if anything ever used them.)

Edit: v9 runtimes installer doesn't run because of a missing NT import. v8 does run.

the minimum for windows 7 is 1,6ghz and 512mb (it was written with netbooks in mind)

Edit someone could probably compile the newest version with MSVC2005 and a platform SDK that still supports win98, but that person might have to fight his way through a ton of warnings and errors
