actually you can't "capture" the "3D" look of EVR.
it doesn't seem to be a matter of contrast per se, but more like some ultra smooth motion engine or sumthing ?!
Hmmm... Something a little subjective here, ahn? :)
I understand but both renderers use different defaults making it hard to compare. The VMR shots are darker and thus hiding artifacts better, whereas the EVR are too bright and showing a lot of artifacts (see 3rd screenie).
I get it. So, what do you suggest?
is there a guide or something that explains what setting these settings to does?
From the old and unofficial MPC help (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=144472):
Use regular offscreen plain surfaces - video surface is treated as usual surface outside the screen.
Use texture surfaces and render video in 2d - video surface is a texture, for copying and stretching uses 2D functions. Requires a videocard which supports 32bit RGBA textures with sizes which are not 2 multipliers at least with video resolution.
Use texture surfaces and render video in 3d - video surface is a texture which consists of two triangles in 3D. Antialiasing can dramatically slow down rendering process.
Resizing - in 3D mode you MPC can use different filters when scaling the image. The most simple and fast is Nearest Neighbor but it gives the worst quality. Bilinear is quite quick and gives good quality, there is variant which uses pixel shaders. Bicubic method has the best quality, but for realtime image processing requires powerful enough video card. There are three variants of bicubic interpolation, the difference is sharpness level (0,6 - the most sharp one).
About the buffers, I don't know exactly, but I guess it works like all buffers: more means more CPU usage in the beginning, but more stable playback; less means less CPU usage, but more instable playback. By 'stable' I mean 'less frame drops'. Can anyone confirm?

don't use PS 2.0 resize on ATI cards, it will make artefacts.
resize in ffdshow instead.
well Delerue, give it a shot!
I'm not crazy :D
several friends of mine noticed the exact same thing.
we all use DLP projectors, calibrated to D65 using commercial sensors.
I'm quite picky when it comes to video material, and I can tell you that EVR looks most spectacular
kudos to Casimir666 _xxl clsid and all the other ppl I forgot for this fantastic MPC HC player :)

Hmmm... The problem seems to be with Vista. At least here, in XP I have no problems at all. But in Vista I see a lot of aliasing.
well Delerue, give it a shot!

Probably you're not. But what you saying is that there's no objective way to test the EVR superiority over VMR7 Windowed. Anyway, I put MPC clsid VMR7 Windowed running side by side with MPC HC EVR Custom. No difference in motion at all. Am I blind? :D

well....smoke some, compare them in fullscreen and enjoy the show :D
sharpened HD and a calibrated display will, of course, help too.
and use my updated package with the EVR DLL's from Vista SP1 :

The other thread is about the Casiimir build. This thread is about clsid build.
What's the difference between the 2? What possible benefit is there of having 2 separate developments? I'm confused!

I'm having a lot of occurrence of MPC seeing audio tracks which do not exist on the DVD...
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/6255/39659165nf2.jpg
Just one example from 3:10 to Yuma.
Occurs in the Alien Quadrilogy too where I can only switch tracks using the Audio Menu.
- Alien lists English 5.1 Dolby, English 5.1 DTS, French 2Ch, English 2Ch, English 2Ch
- Aliens lists English 5.1 Dolby, French 5.1, English 2Ch, English 2Ch
I use a 2-ch stereo setup connected through my amp. I prefer to use the 2-ch mix when I can instead of having AC3 downmix it then having to use the 'loud' preset so I'm able to hear it.
i hate being last page :p

The clsid builds just fix little bugs, and update some critical parts of the MPC core. No new function is introduced. The Casimir builds, in other way, not just share all the clsid patches, but introduce a lot of new functions (EVR, DXVA, etc.). Not so difficult to understand, ahn? :)

is it possible to watch pictures with MPC HC ?
when I click on .JPG files, they close right away....can't even see them :D
or should I add some sort of slideshow filter or sumthing ?

Use Irfanview (or something similar) for pictures.
leeperry
12th January 2008, 15:20
well I use ACDSee but I'd like to get my pictures through EVR and my PS2.0 scripts within MPC:D
BTW clsid is there a way you could fix the lines problems with PS2.0 resize on ATI cards ?

problem doesn't occur with nvidia cards.
if you could implement a software bicubic resizer, that'd be really great!

I am not doing any development on MPC.
But if someone posts a working patch, then I can include it in a new build.

sorry, I thought you were taking care of bug fixes.
well there is a bug with the PS2.0 resizing algorithm within the renderer routine of MPC on ATI cards :(
clsid
12th January 2008, 16:47
I doubt that the shader code in MPC is vendor specific. So if there is a bug, it is likely to be in the ATi driver.

I've had nothing but bad experience with reporting driver issues to DAAMIT but maybe you have more luck:

If I get lucky I'll have a reply in 3 months.

Did you try XP? As I said, here a have an ATI X800 and have no problem at all with XP, but with Vista I see a lot of aliasing. If you confirm this, maybe we could conclude that the problem is Vista. :D

casimir: how difficult would it be to implement seamless playback, so there's no pause in between files when they're split up. I know I can join files, but it doesn't always work. for example, I have AVC encoded m2ts files that MPC can play perferctly one after another (with a pause in between), but when joined via copy /b or tssplitter, MPC only see the first part. i.e., if the first part is 20secs, MPC sees the file as only 20secs no matter how many I've joined together.

can someone confirm that this file doesn't play back correctly? I'm using the latest guliverkli2 build and the problem with this file is that it uses Vorbis Audio Decoder, AAC Decoder and mp3 decoder even though there is only an aac stream inside the mp4...

Do VSFilter.dll and FLVSplitter.ax go in the MPC executable directory? (The don't have install notes...)
thuan
21st January 2008, 06:30
Those are included in MPC already and provided as external binaries for used with other DirectShow based applications. In case you need to use them with other players you can register them with this command:
regsvr32 filter.name
and uninstall them with this:
regsvr32 /u filter.name
in Command Prompt window. You may need to use VSFilter in order for sub to show up if you use any output renderer other than VMR7/9 renderless or Haali renderer.

Do you have a CD/DVD inserted in one of your optical drives?
Sometimes explorer needs a bit til the drives have started spinning the disc. During that time, explorer and maybe the taskbar itself remain unresponsive.
thuan
1st February 2008, 02:08
No, no media in drives. This problem is as I described, explorer.exe just hangs forever until I close MPC if you use win+e during a video playback. It's not AutoHotKey and/or CCC hot keys either, I have disabled them but no go. I have found the culprit though (just now during typing this :D), it's ffdshow_tryout Keys & Remote enabled.

Done!!!
:) :) :)
Yesterday evening I took it seriosly, starting at 9 o'clock PM. I reinstalled the whole Visual Studio, including the SP1, checked out with tortoise SVN the new revision 38. I installed all the SDK, with calm and following, with some trivial adaptations, this guide for newbies (with MSVS2005 I feel I belong definitely to this cathegory  )...
http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Guliverkli
This time everything went out extremely smooth and easy: no need to change or adapt the project files nor even a single line of code... No need to patch anything... The res folder was already there... An impressive number of warnings, but not even a single error in the build...
I ended this morning at 2 o'clock, after building both the release and the release unicode versions. I'd say it was worth to spend these few hours on the matter: I am now very very happy about...
Thanks a lot, clsid, for your EXCELLENT work...
Cheers,

Here is a suggestion for a new build of Media Player Classic:
is there any reason the small-jump forward and backward keys are by default left unbinded? I'd like them to automatically be mapped to the shift + left (and right) keys upon installation.
What do you think?
clsid
15th February 2008, 21:30
Those key combos are already in use for keyframe jumping. So the answer is that it will stay the way it is now.
twipley
15th February 2008, 23:15
Oh. Then what I thought wasn't there by default actually was.
Great. Sorry for the disturb,
and continue the good work.

is it possible to add an aspect ratio of 16:10 in the override aspect ratio menu? reason i'm asking is because my monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:10 and i don't want to use ffdshow or any other filter for that purpose.

Use "stretch to window".
Mangix
18th February 2008, 01:15
that's...exactly what i was searching for. thank you.
is there any difference between using that and having a correct aspect ratio though?
clsid
18th February 2008, 13:48
Stretching will not respect the AR of the video. It will use the AR of the window (or of the screen).

otherwise try "Touch window from Outside"
*played with MPC a while*
OK.. if "Keep Aspect Ratio" is checked then Override - works..
if not KAR - then manipulation does not work... at all...
is this right behaviour?
i'm sorry those are my 2 cents... anyway i've got lost in my thinkings... :)
Kado

I have a 16:10 panel and use "touch from inside" and "keep aspect ratio", I get black bars (depending on the video aspect ratio) but that's the proper way to see the videos instead of a stretched or cropped image.
