SPDIF out no longer works correctly with the December build
Tested with an AC3 DVD here and works perfectly.

Odd, will test with a AC3 DVD, but AC3 audio in AVI's definitely aren't being decoded by my sound card via SPDIF (and yes it did work that way before)
Edit: Seems it's not a Media Player Classic problem, appologies, just noticed it when I upgraded to the new build. Will have to try and reinstall my sound card drivers or something, it may be that.
Edit 2: Seems my Auzentech X-Fi Prelude does not have the decoding function my Creative X-Fi had. :-/ Oh well

Found a little bug using the internal MpegTS/PS/PVA filter. If that same file is being used by another application (for example, bittorrent), it seems to be unable to cashe the file properly or something, because it causes unwatchable stutter. Runs fine when said application is closed, and runs fine when the internal MPC filter is disabled (but unfortunately the internal Windows filter is inferior). Also runs fine in WMP11. And Haali splitter works fine too (but results in me having no audio with .vob w/ PCM audio).
Nothing to do with the machine, my PC is plenty powerful for it, and only happens when another application is actively accessing the same file (even if it's on another machine in the network).
Tested .ts and .mpg files specifically.

I have just realised that subtitle database stuff has been removed from the options. Why?
I sometimes found it quite useful in combination with opensubtitles database. Could it be brought back within the next update?
Thanks for keeping MPC alive.

Was it working? Last time I tried it lead to a broken link, that's the reason it was removed

yeah it works by using "www.opensubtitles.org/isdb" as base url.
The two default base urls provided with MPC are dead, so I think it could be cool if they are removed and replaced by this one as default.

I was just trying MPC-HC, and I seem to have a problem with EVR-Custom. If I try to change subtitles, playback stops, and sometimes MPC totally freezes. This does NOT happen with VMR9-custom, only with EVR-Custom. Usinv MPC-HC 1.0.11.4, but also happens with MPC-HC 1.0.11.0. OS is Windows Vista 64bit

Ok default url changed
I am currently using the last build from guliverkli project (v6.4.9.0) because I read somewhere that this updated build called 6.4.9.1 had database subtitle stuff removed.
From the release notes in patched build 6.4.9.1 at sourceforge (project guliverkli2):
* MPC: removed subtitle database stuff
Maybe they were referring to something else, maybe the default servers. I am going to try it right now and tell you.
Edit: I have just checked that the database option under Subtitles options has been removed, at least in the last update, file "mplayerc_20071206.zip"
@Casimir666
Are you sure you are using the same release? Thanks.

I'm not confused about the different projects but confused about the fact why it has to be like it is...
why not combine them into one project with all the latest bells and whistles HC got for example, include the latest filters/ splitter and develop from that moment onwards...

I'm using MPC HC from Casimir on XP SP2 with an ATI HD2600XT using the latest 7.12 drivers, the EVR support in XP is awesome.
I'm also using the PS 2.0 sharpen filter, which works very nicely :)
only 3 problems :
1) If I enable PS 2.0 resize in the OUTPUT options, I get "ghost" lines........vertical or horizontal depending on the resolution....
If I disable 3D surfaces, I don't get any output :(
I'm outputting YV12 from ffdshow and CoreAVC...If I set them to YUY2 I do get a picture with "2D surfaces" but it never starts playing.
here's a screenshot, there's several "ghost" lines right in the middle of the image on the driver's arm and the car windshield :
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/4422/linesyl8.th.png (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=linesyl8.png)
any idea what I could do ?
software Bilinear upscale sucks, would software 4X Lanczos be possible ?!
both KMPlayer's EVR implementation and Haali's Renderer are using AF to resize........any chance doing the same in MPC HC ?
or maybe a bug fix could do the trick ? :D
2) is it possible to send YV12 or YUY2 to EVR instead of RGB32, so there's no lossy conversion ? it was possible in KMPlayer.
3) Reclock never had any problem to get the framerate from KMPlayer, but with MPC HC it hardly ever works...
Thank you for your time,
Leak
7th January 2008, 11:32
3) Reclock never had any problem to get the framerate from KMPlayer, but with MPC HC it hardly ever works...
If you're using EVR - ReClock won't work, period.
It only supports overlay and VMR; EVR is too new to be supported by what sadly is an abandoned project... :(
leeperry
7th January 2008, 11:50
well Reclock does work with MPC HC + EVR, and also with Haali's Renderer.
but it was able to detect the framerate perfectly with KMPlayer+EVR, and only 50% of the time with MPC HC.
I've tried to fiddle with Reclock settings to no success, but I'll try again :D
MPC HC + EVR in the native resolution of the display(HC3100 projector in my case) provides a most impressive PQ :D
but the PS2.0 "ghost" lines make upscaling SD worthless, and I won't use software bilinear resizing because it's very blurry........so for me this MPC HC doesn't really cut it for everyday use :(
so close to the perfect media player, so close http://forum-images.hardware.fr/images/perso/xqwzts.gif
apparently these "ghost" lines only appear with ATI videocards :(
thuan
9th January 2008, 02:23
Yeah, upscaling on ATI card has problem over here too. With Haali it looks like this:
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/8483/14680965ck4.th.jpg (http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=14680965ck4.jpg)
and with VMR9 renderless or EVR Custom both in 3D rendering mode and any Bicubic PS resizer you'll have this:
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/686/62107752fy0.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=62107752fy0.jpg)
If you turn on Alternate Pixel Center in CCC, the situation is reverse. And EVR in any other mode beside 3d rendering will indeed freeze on starting playback.
leeperry
9th January 2008, 02:31
I've tried to enable "Alternate Pixel" but then there's some funky frame around the picture.
yeah Haali's R. is also messed up, I guess software upscaling is our only option.
Hopefully some of the programmers of MPC will find a fix.
like software bicubic, or letting the ATI drivers upscale with some DirectX call or sumthing
Actually Haali's R. is fine if you upscale in ffdshow, but then you have to switch BT601/709 depending on SD/HD
with EVR there's no such switch, so you can't upscale with ffdshow because the ATI drivers turn to BT709 automatically for 720p or bigger.
so upscaling within the renderer is our only option to get BT601 upscaled SD :(
and software Bilinear looks like junk atm :o

the problem occurs with any material, actually.
as long as some resizing is required, it goes bersek.........today I'm getting + signs on SD instead of simple lines.
I've just tried, it occurs with VMR9 Renderless and EVR.
doesn't seem to happen for VMR7 Windowed or Renderless and VMR9 Windowed, though.
I hope someone can find a way to avoid these artefacts, like software bicubic ? or letting the video drivers upscale through Direct X ?
thanks for your help anyway ;)

_xxl's and casimir666's builds come from the same project so they're the same basically. As for clsid's build/project it's only patch/bug fixes of the original mpc, the purpose of this project is ONLY to fix old bugs. So I normally use mpc by clsid for ataraxia and only use mpc-hc when tinkering with new features of it like DXVA decoding. The current situation is pretty clear IMHO.

so if _xxl and casmir666's build are practically the same, then why not both work on it and release one instead of maybe one releasing a build with a change and the other releasing a slightly different build with different changes on it?
as for clsid's build which apparently fixes older bugs, wouldnt it be more productive to have older bugs fixed and then incorporated into MPCHC which is being developed with new features?
basically, why are 3 people working on developing a program (in this case MPC) and putting out 3 different versions when they could work together and put out a single version which has all the fixes and features.

_xxl and casimir builds are the same because they come from the same source code, just check the change log (http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc/?view=log). there are only two versions and the bug fixes that clsid puts into his builds eventually reach MPC HC, anyway MPC HC has more features and it's the version I use, remember that they are providing us new builds for free.

They are on the same project, have you ever been here http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mpc-hc/?view=log drevel_xxl is _xxl. So those binaries from those two are from the same project and the newest is of course the latest.

Yes, it is already like what you said. Every change in his build is most likely in or soon to be incorporated into MPC-HC. And as clsid REPEATEDLY says, his build is only for bug fixing not developing new features, the project page is only for ease of accessing the fixed source code as an OSS.

I guess answering your previous two questions already give you the answer for this last question. If you can't get it then there's something wrong with you. If you want to stay on the bleeding edge use MPC-HC, that's it.

I'm having a lot of occurrence of MPC seeing audio tracks which do not exist on the DVD...
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/6255/39659165nf2.jpg
Just one example from 3:10 to Yuma.
Occurs in the Alien Quadrilogy too where I can only switch tracks using the Audio Menu.
- Alien lists English 5.1 Dolby, English 5.1 DTS, French 2Ch, English 2Ch, English 2Ch
- Aliens lists English 5.1 Dolby, French 5.1, English 2Ch, English 2Ch
I use a 2-ch stereo setup connected through my amp. I prefer to use the 2-ch mix when I can instead of having AC3 downmix it then having to use the 'loud' preset so I'm able to hear it.
