Maybe the question is dumb. I have googled pretty much lately but I cannot find an explanation what the mode (HQ) actually does. Can anyone explain it to me?

Thanks for the new version 2.6

Any chance of changelogs for the recent versions?

Thanks for the update

Any plans to support h264 in future versions with the same philosophy that this program has (SAP compatability)?

The Scientist

I hope so :)

OK, I updated and the option to index subtitles is disabled (not able to click the drop down). Anyone else?

edit: I reverted to v2.6.5 and am able to index subtitles.

Thanks for the new version, looks good.

I have the greyed out subtitle combo aswell. But didn't think much to it as the DVD i've encoded doesn't have subtitles.

I'll try a different DVD later and see what happens.

The Scientist

OK thanks for the feedback, another version will be out soon, I've spent this past 2 days almost re-writing everything from scratch, things (options) will look slightly different and it will act differently upon loading files.

A quick thought to the subtitles, the last version I released is now looking for the proper IFO name not an amended one like those produced from pgc.NET.

jgawera
23rd January 2010, 11:17
Are you saying we shouldn't be using pgc.net?
is there an alternative now?

Thanks

<crosses fingers for more batching stuff> :)

The Scientist
23rd January 2010, 13:37
Well to be honest it's like this, I started updating pgc.NET, then started messing with avi.NET, then started re-writing loads of things, thought about what to do about the "IFO" naming, I just put it back to normal until I got round to finishing pgc.NET but got hung up in the last avi.NET update..... I did change pgc.NET and added batch options and auto "indexing" and subtitle extraction e.t.c. but just never got round to finishing properly. I will finish it after the next avi.NET update.

jgawera
23rd January 2010, 14:08
So for now, is there a workaround?
Can I just rename an IFO file to get avi.NET to pick up the subs?

Thanks for all your efforts.

The Scientist
23rd January 2010, 15:52
Yes, just rename back to normal format for that title set.

Hello,

I enjoy using avi.net, but have a problem with the latest version, 2.7, there is no 560 width on the screen.size anymore while in the past version there was. Has this size been removed on purpose, or am I having a problem (bug?). As of now, I'm back to using 2.6.5.0.

Thanks.

The Scientist
27th January 2010, 00:02
No that's not a bug, it was intentional, silly me..... I'll put it back and update the beta shortly.

OK I've done 2nd BETA now.

Thanks, I've installed it and it works fine. I did notice one thing different from 2.6.5.0 - when changing widths, the bitrate doesn't change in 2.7 like it does in 2.6.5.0. Its no big matter, just noticed it.

Also a suggestion (if you can), a way to add a volume control. Alot of the video I enter are very loud when previewing. Would be nice to adjust volume on the preview. But if not, no big deal, I can always mute the computer.

Also I notice you claim that .NET 3.5 is required to use, however I don't have .NET 3.5 installed (only up to 3.0). Course this would be nice if you don't change as I don't have plans as of yet to upgrade to 3.5, just wanted to pass that on in case of something missed.

Thanks again for putting 560 width back in. Much appreciated!

Glad to hear the beta seems to be working OK.

Yeh that's right, I did like that feature so it will be put back in.

Also a suggestion (if you can), a way to add a volume control. Alot of the video I enter are very loud when previewing.
Hmmm, I never even gave that a thought, I'll sort something out.

you claim that .NET 3.5 is required to use, however I don't have .NET 3.5 installed (only up to 3.0).
Yeh I just say 3.5 because that's the way the project is setup in VS but if it works in 3.0 then great.

Thanks again for putting 560 width back in. Much appreciated!
No problem.

Glad beta5 is OK now.

The main reason why I say it's only 32bit (x86) is simply because I don't have access to a non x86 PC to test it on.
Strangly, some people tell me x64 works fine, others tell me it doesn't work at all.
So do you have a x64 CPU and an x64 OS?
When you ran beta5, did it come up with any 'x64' message as the program loaded?

Win7 x64 Amd x4 940

Yes, the message appears. Is new in Beta 5, it's true. I had until now never seen before.
I Avinet since 2650 at an x64 system on the run so far without any problems.

Hello,

Just a bit of cosmetic problem - when I loaded a HD video to convert, the message HDTV source detect, playback may be sluggish (or something to that affect) appeared on top of the video playback window. Problem is, it is in black text on a grey background, very hard to read. You may want to change that so the message is clearer and stands out.

Also, not sure if you can do this, during encoding of the video when it goes from pass 1 to pass 2, there is a small pop-up window. Most times this isn't a problem, but when in a full-screen app this window tends to pull out of the full-screen. I don't know what the window is since it is fast appearing. Is there a way to incorporate the window into the avi.net program, so it won't "pop-up"?

Other than the volume control, everything else works great so far.
:thanks:

...it is in black text on a grey background, very hard to read. You may want to change that so the message is clearer and stands out.
Yeh I know, it was kind of intentional.......well, it's something I put there in the beta and wern't sure whether to keep it or not, I wanted the user aware of it but not 'in your face' so to speak.

...during encoding of the video when it goes from pass 1 to pass 2, there is a small pop-up window.
I bet it only happens when you have DivX selected. I'm not sure how to stop it, maybe I'll have a closer look... it always happens when DivX goes to do a second pass, it flashes something up for a brief second, I don't know what it is, it's always too fast for me to see it.

...Other than the volume control, everything else works great so far. :thanks:
Oh the volume control, I was hoping you'd forgot lol. Well not sure whether that will be in next proper version because, well, it's been done a few days. Just not sure where (in the GUI) to put it.

Okay, its no big deal, it was just hard to read and didn't interfere with anything, just thought to pass that along.

Yes, I use Divx mainly cause it's for my stand-alone dvd player (Philips 5982/37 model). Not sure what it contains, I think I saw some numbers once, can't be sure. Don't worry about it, I just try not to run fullscreen mode anything when using avi.NET.

Like I stated before, it's not a big deal, if you can place it in, that would be very nice, if not, I can always mute the speakers for the time being. Don't go out of the way just cause it's something I would like.

Again, thanks for the fixes and great program! So far running fine with the conversions I do.

Thanks you kind sir! The new 3.0.0.0 version is great! I like the addition of the movie stats you've added above the screen.size. And changing of the font too (it does seem different). Everything seems to run smoothly.

Again thank you very much. Hopefully I won't have to post anymore about anything else, well maybe volume control ;)

Been a while, been using the program, quite honestly, quite alot. Slowly converting my physical media to digital to play on my newly formed media setup.

I have a few requests, if the author is so incline to read them:

1. Could you add a screen size called <org>? As in original size? Something that will pass through the dimensions and AR without changing them?

2. Is there a way you could add a timer to the shutdown PC after Conversion? When it's done it immediately shuts down. Would be nice there is like a 15sec or so timer saying 'Click Here to Abort'.

3. Maybe add more file types as inputs? VOBs, MPGs and TS's are fine, maybe, if possible, add more? Like MOVs? or AVIs?

Other than a few vobs that cause a/v sync issues, the program runs great.

Thanks for the effort and time making the program.

:thanks:
