I don`t have time recalculate my formula, but you can correct me if you want:

Well, I guess your a busy man - aren't we all. Anyway, if you had bothered sticking the numbers that I gave in my previous post into the code that you posted, you would realize that your code has a bug.

You are trying to calculate how much the input video should be cropped based on the size of the output video - that clearly isn't going to work since you have lost all information about the size of the input video.

So this
If oldAspect < newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = (newRes.Width / oldAspect) - newRes.Height
and this
If oldAspect > newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = newRes.Height - (newRes.Width / oldAspect)
doesn't work. It should be changed to something like this (notice that oldRes isn't actually available in the current scope - but I'm sure you can find a way of making it available).

If oldAspect < newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = oldRes.Height - (oldRes.Width / newAspect)
and
If oldAspect > newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = oldRes.Width - (oldRes.Height * newAspect)

Remember to change it in all 3 places (Crop, Black and Crop+Black).

Hope that helps,
Morten

hmm, one of my korean friend wanted to use the program but got into this problem where the program does not proceed after "extract sound" part. He has installed net frame 3.0 and latest xvid4psp. Here's the log and the video info. Apparently he has the same problem for every video he tries to encode though.

hmmm, he already tried it. and I tried using Korean pathed files and it seems to work perfectly well for me. weird. Cuz he can see the preview fine when he opens the file. It is just the problem when it comes to encoding, it stops at extract sound part. Can you think of any other reasons?

I have a question about psp playback ratio for firmware 3.30. I realized that 480*272 is not the usual 16:9 ratio which is 1.778. So lets say if I encode a movie with 1.778 ratio without any black boarder. Can psp play it 1.778 or will it play it 1.765 ratio? and I'm talking about firmware 3.30 here, not the custom firmware.

winnydows
20th April 2007, 13:02
3.30 play any aspect and any resolution <= 480x272. High res - 740x480 - will play with wrong aspect, but it can be fixed with triangle.

@winnydows:

first, thank you for this great tool.
I am a MeGUI-User, but when I am converting some old DVDs to AVC for my PS3 I am using XVID4PSP atm.

But that does not mean that am not playing around with MeGUI and trying to find out some tweaks to get better results for my PS3 videos.

So I just discovered, that my PS3 (fw 1.6) supports SAR.
I encoded LotR1 with SAR=141/100 at 720x432 and got a nice 1:2.35 clip with correct aspect ratio.
Imho anamorphic encodes (if supported by player) looks better than resized ones, because they keep more details.

Maybe an idea to implement.

When my psp was in 3.03 rev C OE firmware, i've done somes videos using 4.109 Xvid4PSP (mp4 480 profile).
Now with firmware 3.40 OE some of these old videos can't be read by my psp and i don't know why? All my videos were done with the same profile, same audio and video bitrate... I just renamed them from MAQxxxxx.mp4 to their original title.

Any idea about this bug ?

Old files must be named by old technique and placed to old folder. Only new files will play from new folder.

@BlueCup
Let me finish 4.113.

@Wishbringer
I think about SAR usage too. May be later we can speak about thi. Now many work with 4.113.
4.113 will be with full interlace support for MPEG2.

XviD4PSP 4.113 full (http://winnydows.com/download/xvid4psp/XviD4PSP_4113_full.exe)
XviD4PSP 4.113 lite (http://winnydows.com/download/xvid4psp/XviD4PSP_4113_lite.exe)

4.113 changes:
Fixed 48000 Khz files encoding to FLV.
For MPEG2 added new encoding profiles. (1-pass Ultra, 2-pass Ultra).
Now 1-pass Ultra for MPEG2 encoding do almost same quality as 3-pass Ultra in old versions.
Added two new formats - MP4 BlackBerry 8100, MP4 BlackBerry 8800.
Added SeeSaw sharpen filter and same remastring profile. Very good filter. Probably can replace LimitedSharpen filter.
More formats now support audio COPY.
Fixed many small bugs.
Added full support interlaced sources encoding. Only for MPEG2 now.
Media Player Classic replaced to internal player.
Preview now start faster.
Founede temporary solution for AVI Mux GUI and non-english path.
Returned one old format - MP4 PSP 3.03 OE (MP4 PSP 3.10 OE B + bitrate lock).
Fixed Black aspect fix.
x264 updated to version 654.
Mencoder updated to version 23107.

First off, I would like to say thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have an Archos 604 wifi and for the most part it was rather easy to get XviD4PSP to create x264/mp4 files playable with its podcast plugin.

I'm curious though if is possible to make custom settings alongside the turbo, simple, ultra and extreme modes without the need to alter the command line each time. My archos was dropping frames on videos with heavy motion even when using the turbo and simple options for the x264 codec and the way I got it to stop was by removing various switches in the command line. The task of setting up 140 batch jobs for music videos and removing the switches for each job became rather repetitive. If there is a way to customize the CLI without manually editing it for each job, that would be awesome.

This is just a minor gripe. The program saved a lot of time regardless. Thanks!

First of all, this is one awesome quality producer! I just love it for my iPod!

iPod MP4 640 profile on the 4.113 release doesn't work i.e. iTunes reports the bitrate error being out of capability!
But untill the 4.106 version everything worked smooth! The current one works for some videos and doesn't work on some whereas no prbs with the 4.106! Do handle this in your future release!

Keep up the development!

blocking can occur if the bitrate its too low, so I suggest maybe reencode the video with a higher bitrate.
Another reason for blocking is if the resolution of your source is very small for example 320x240 and you encode the video for example for your psp 480xXXX the video gets stretched causing the blocking

Yes I know this information already but thanks for helping anyways xp. I always encode my videos at the best quality using quantizer extreme and all of my source's resolutions are larger than the psp's. However, some of my encoded videos do still have some noticeable blocking. Is it possible to eliminate all of it?

I'm asking whether this program has any filters or other features/options that help reduce blocking.

I'd really like to use this fine app, but for the life of me, I can't open any files with it! As soon as hit open a file, Vista reports that the app must shut down. I have tried with a mp4, mov, and wmv. All 3 playback just fine in WMP. I have uninstalled Haali's splitter, and installed all components of Xvid4PSP.

I have UAC turned off, I've run as an admin, and the only filters I've installed are ffdshow and VSfilter.

I'm usually one to not have any problems with such software...

EDIT: I installed this on another fairly clean Vista machine, and the app fails to open at all! This is with the latest build. So, I'm not sure what's going here...

I've just finished an encode of a movie using xvid4psp, with the PSP 3.30 setting. I encoded from my own avs file and everything worked perfectly, no errors or warnings.
The resultant file plays perfectly on my PC, but the PSP refuses to play it, displaying the 'This video is not supported' error.
My first attempt was at 480x192, then I added borders to make 480x272 but neither file played. Any ideas?

For info, I used 800kbps video, 1-pass turbo (as this was just a test), 96 and 128 kbps audio. My firmware is genuine version 3.40.

Cheers, Beastie.

480x192 should play fine (does here with 3.40)
but perhaps your avs files makes problems:
I had an anime at pal (25fps) and used a blendremover and dubframesremover to come down to original anime-fps from around 14fps.
that video encoded fine and played fine at pc, but not at psp.
when leaving 25 fps or convert down to 24 fps, video still played on psp...

These are the standard settings I always use and they haven't failed me - yet. I have the same firmware.

Format: MP4 PSP 3.30
Video Codec: x264
Video Bitrate: 768
Audio Codec: AAC LC
Audio Bitrate: 128
Resize Resolution: 480x272
Aspect: 1.765(16:9)
AspectFix: Black

The program will automatically enter values in the Width and Height fields in the square labelled Black to add the necessary borders.

Beastie Boy
29th June 2007, 07:44
I wonder if frame rate is the issue. My source is 23.976 fps, straight from HD-DVD. I shall try converting the audio to wave, stretching to 24fps and adding assumefps(24) to my script.

I'm sure the avs script itself isn't causing problems, it plays fine in MPC, as does the finished mp4 file.

Thanks for the replies.
Cheers, Beastie.

EDIT: Can anyone tell me which frame rates the PSP supports? I'm at work at the moment, and any sites remotely related to gaming are blocked so I can't check myself.

Beastie Boy
30th June 2007, 20:10
To answer my own question, it seems the frame rate was the problem. I converted to 25fps and the file played. However, the 480x192 picture was stretched vertically and filled the screen. Is there anyway to avoid this, without encoding black borders into the file?

Cheers, Beastie.

There is an option in PSP while playing videos. You can choose: original, normal, stretched and fullscreen.
when coosing normal you get a in width stretched (or not when encode is 480) with right AR.

No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."

Audio returned: "DirectShowSource: couldn't open file
No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."

When I encode using audio stream 1 it works normally but doesn't for audio stream 2 for some reason.

Is there any way of getting the DD5.1 soundtrack to work on the PS3? I encoded a DVD5 the other day and it plays perfectly on my PS3 but with stereo sound. Can this be done?

Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm trying to do the same thing.

thnx

At the moment, the PS3 downmixes all multi-channel audio to stereo. I hope this is addressed soon as it is the one thing currently holding me back from buying the machine.

AFAIK, the only way to get multi-channel sound is to create a AVCHD file.

Cheers, Beastie.
