Minimal requirements to system:
Windows Vista, XP SP2.
Microsoft Framework 3.0 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70848)
DirectX Update-Check (http://winnydows.com/download/xvid4psp/dxwebsetup.exe)

On Windows Vista don`t need intsall framework, but need need turn off UAC (Control Panel - UAC - X) and update DirectX to real worked version.

Program can encode any file playable in Media Player Classic. So for correct work must be installed correct codecs. Like KLite Codec Pack Full (http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm).
Important rule: AviSynth 2.5.7 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023) or newer must be intalled.
AviSynth (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023) include in full versions of XviD4PSP.

FAQ by KnightOrc:

Q: What is the difference between Turbo, Ultra, Extreme settings?
A: The level of motion detection that the codec will use, Turbo is the least efficient but very fast,, then Ultra and then Extreme is the most efficient but the slowest.

Q: What is the difference between 1-pass, 2-pass, 3-pass and Quantizer?
A: 1-pass does a single pass, fast but bandwidth is not efficiently used. 2-pass does a first pass to detect where the most bits are needed and a second pass to encode using that information, efficient bandwidth use and better quality. 3-pass doesn't improve the quality significantly from 2-pass, only really used for production mastering. Quantizer uses a constant bitrate to encode...

Q: Can XviD4PSP rip subtitles from DVD?
A: Not yet, it is planned for the future.

Q: How can I encode my DVD to <format>?
A: If it is unencrypted (or you use a transparent decrypter like AnyDVD) then just use the DVD button to select the VOB file. If it is encrypted use DVD Shrink in re-author mode to save it to HDD (no-compression, select only the PGC and audio/subtitle tracks you will use) and use Open to select the VOB files. Do NOT use DVD Decrypter, it doesn't create the correct indexes.

Q: How do I copy my PSP videos to my PSP?
A: Go to the Save Folder tab, make sure you PSP is connected via USB, right-click the video and select "Copy/Move to PSP".

Q: Is XviD4PSP compatible with Vista?
A: Yes but need turn off UAC (Control Panel - UAC - X) and update DirectX to real worked version.

Q: Does XviD4PSP require Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0?
A: Yes, it currently will work on 3.0.

Q: Does XviD4PSP run on Windows 2000 or below?
A: Windows 2000 work only with old 4.115 version, WinME/98/SE are not known to work.

Q: Does XviD4PSP support multi-threading?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I donate anything to this project?
A: Click on the Donate button in the top menu.

Q: Can you add <format> support to XviD4PSP?
A: It depends on many things, like available encoders and the availability of the format's specifications. It also takes time to add and test a new format, so ask nicely and be patient.

Q: What is SBC?
A: Saturation, Brightness and Contrast. If your PSP videos suffer from the "red smear" you should set it to GhostBuster and make sure that ffdshow's Postprocessing has the Luminance box UNCHECKED. The Vivid increases the saturation without boosting the contrast and only slightly increasing the brightness, it will make the colors appear more intense.

Q: Will you ever add PMF as an output format?
A: No.

Q: How do I encode faster while maintaining video quality.
A: Use 1-pass simple 1024kbit , approx 4 times faster, the quality is almost the same as 768kbit 2-pass ultra but the file size will be about 25% larger.

Will the output videos work for PSPs with firmware 2.5 and up? I thought only f 1.5 could playback xvid videos but yet again your program seems to have various outputs.
Before I get my hands on friends' psps, how does it work for fps settings (since psps do not like 25 fps pal videos)?

winnydows

2.01 and UP :). If need conversion will done automatic.
Just choose Format PSP AVC.

winnydows, first of all congrats for the fine program, clean interface and good speed+quality in the output as well.
Your app just works for me to encode small clips and videos but:
1. Using avisynth as a frameserver but not accepting avs files as input limits its usage.
1.1. If you just add avs support, there would not be a need for direct dvd input support, wouldn't it? Well, maybe the user could feed the audio seperately before muxing.
Keep up the good work!..

Xvid4psp can open avs files but asks for resolution, fps and clip length. Yet it also saves another avs file at the end. Apart from that opening DVD files from HDD is working as it should at the time.
The installation type is alittle odd (downloading all of the files again and again). Maybe XviD4PSP setup could connect to a server and only download what is needed just like megui does.

Wow, Winnydows you sure seem to have an updating spree going on. I use your app more and more and like it because of the control it gives to the user. With a little push, Xvid4PSP can be popular among its one click rivals I am sure.

You can be dead sure there is no need for VirtualDub + AviSynth (That is just me of course). If there is a need, it could be an edit page for avisynth at most for now.

First i manually use DGindex to crop and create a d2v, output audio into wav form. Created a .avs file, this is my script:

loadplugin("C:\Documents and Settings\pc-user\My Documents\Useful Shit\DGINDEX\DGDecode.dll")

video = mpeg2source("C:\Documents and Settings\pc-user\My Documents\My Videos\Test.d2v")
audio = wavSource("C:\Documents and Settings\pc-user\My Documents\My Videos\Test T01 3_2ch 384Kbps 48KHz.wav")
AudioDub(video, audio)
AssumeFPS(24.000)
AmplifydB(20,20)
LanczosResize(480,272) # Lanczos (Sharp)
Sharpen(0.1)
ConvertToYV12()
Tweak(sat=1.7, bright=17, cont=1.1)

Output container format is PMPAVC.
VIDEO
BITRATE: 500
SIZE: 8
PASS: 2

AUDIO
BITRATE: 120
VOLUME: 400

ENGINE: X264
OUTPUT: PMPAVC

It reads the .avs file perfectly, runs through the encoding process fine but at muxing it fails.

If you have DVD on hd. I found bug - even if you select all vobs from folder, added only first. Happend only in DGMPGDec mode. Fix in 4.008.

Not sure if its my script or BeSweet never picked up on it.
Anyways brilliant work mate! ;D

Do you know of a program to play PMP files on the PC? It would greatly help in figuring out the best possible file size/quality ratio.

there is a directshow splitter made by cooleyes:
http://rapidshare.de/files/22835765/PmpSplitter1.0.0.7.rar.html

you must register it in this way:
regsvr32 pmpsplitter.ax

also ffdshow may be required:

PS:
after this you should be able to play pmps with every windows player

Fixed import files with non standart framerate.
---------------------------------------------------
4.011 changes:
Now used direct lame.exe and neroAacEnc.exe encoding. Without besweet. Encoding of audio much faster.
BeSweet not used anymore !!! This mean sound don`t need extract before encoding. BePipe redirect sound direct to audio encoder. It safe your space on hard and time.
For audio encoding now used CBR encoding mode. ABR and VBR cause lost sync on DVD encoding.
Added VirtualDubMod.
Removed VirtualDub. All calls to VirtualDub now fully replace VirtualDubMod.
Added apps menu. Launching VirtualDubMod, DGIndex, Media Player Classic, makeAVIS programms from this menu.
Changed work with progressbar. Now progress showed for audio encoding too. Also enhanced muxing progress.
Again fixed autocrop. Also three times speedup.
Rewritten work with MediaInfo.dll.
Added Normalize on Preview option. If box not checked volume normalize not used on preview. Very speedup preview.
For DVD and MPG types added ForceFilm options. Convert fps 29.970 > 23.976 - Forced Film option in DGindex.
Fixed second pressing on Preview button for DVD and MPG types.
Removed EnsureVBRMP3Sync() function. Made more bad than good.
Added Samplerate option. Convert sample rate of sound. Also samplerate not changed if already valid.
Added audio codec option. Now just information, but later will have DirectStrim.
Many small fixes.
Preview form very changed.
Fixed MP4 import.

Note:

Your errors happend if sound track have other channels from shown in info. It happend only if info show 6channel ac3 and your select 2channel ac3 file or like that. I fix this in next version.

Also I found new way for encoding. Quality will more better and speed will more faster (on my pc 3 times!!!) (VirtualDubMod + YV12). Wait 4.013, now write new encoding engine.

video = mpeg2source("C:\Documents and Settings\pc-user\My Documents\My Videos\Test.d2v")

What are the benefits to using an AVS file as opposed to just running an AVI through the program?

I just thought it was handier.
Is using force film better?

Thanks for the link mate i,ll give it ago.

I think IVTC (forced film in dgindex) best metod reduce framerate. In most cases even interlace removed.
Just now read documentation abot AssumFPS. Useless option. After this conversion changed sound pitch. Very bad. Use only force film or ConvertFPS(). I hear exists IVTC plugin for avisynth if you work with non mpeg source.

No luck Winnydows, mencoder still crashing, i dont use it but it would be good to know why its doing this.
I used Mediacoder by Stanley Huang which also uses mencoder and never give me any trouble, only trouble there is no .AVS suppport with Mediacoder, video also stutters with it.
Anyway enough about that, looking forward to complete 4.13 build.

video = mpeg2source("C:\Documents and Settings\pc-user\My Documents\My Videos\Pink Panther.d2v")
audio = wavSource("C:\Documents and Settings\pc-user\My Documents\My Videos\Pink Panther T01 3_2ch 384Kbps 48KHz.wav")

sl = GetChannel(last, 5)
sr = GetChannel(last, 6)
l = MixAudio(sl, sr, -0.2633, -0.1862)
l = MixAudio(l, c, 1.0, 0.228)
r = MixAudio(sl, sr, 0.1862, 0.2633)
r = MixAudio(r, c, 1.0, 0.228)
st = MergeChannels(l, r)
MixAudio(f, st, 0.3225, 1.0)
AudioDub(video, last)
AmplifydB(20,20)
ConvertFPS(24.000)
Lanczos4Resize(480,272) # Lanczo4 (Sharp)

Would there be any negative aspects to using AutoGK to create an AVI from my VOB file other than extra time involved? I have been playing around with trying to use VOBs as the input for the app and so far it's been a little quirky (echoes on the audio).

Basically I rip the VOB, then use AutoGK with the setting at 100% quality, and select what audio and/or subtitles, then use the AVI in XviD4PSP.

winnydows
1st August 2006, 18:27
Multiple vobs adding dont working in 4.016. Need to fix. But d2v import working good (like in gknot). Can you explain me why using gknot and than use my app ?

opeth2112
1st August 2006, 18:39
More or less just to have a 100% good transfer to AVI and then focus on getting that AVI to be the best possible PMP. AutoGK makes selecting audio and adding subtitles extremely easy. I am still playing around with using VOBs directly in XviD4PSP but haven't had very good results yet. I have tried it on 3 different PCs and tend to get different errors on each. I do a lot of video editing and have a ton of codecs and programs loaded, so until I could narrow it down to being my stuff, or your program - I didn't want to send anything in as a bug report.

Beyond that, I haven't had much time to sit and play around with it to check quality for either method. I set it up to run overnight and see the results in the morning.

With this in mind, one issue I am having is with trying to select 1 minute or 5 minutes when using a VOB. I will have to post the error if I get it again.

I was testing things with an AVI file (checked the AVI file and all sound and video are good and synched). My settings are PMP AVC, all the defaults including AC3 decoding with Directshow. The problem I am experiencing is an echo on the voices. It sounds like they are talking in a metal tank. As I type this I am trying the same movie with AVIFilesource instead of Directshow to see if that makes a difference. I will post my findings as soon as it completes.

winnydows

opeth2112
3rd August 2006, 19:13
I have tried a lot of different configs to see if anything changes. Nothing has changed so far. I have a suspicion that it might be another audio/video app I have loaded somewhere along the way that is causing an issue. For example, I noticed that the DGIndex that comes with AutoGK is a different version than the one with XviD4PSP, and your program was erroring alot because it was finding my other DGIndex. When I copied your DGIndex over the AutoGK one, a lot of errors went away. With this in mind, I am going to reload my PC from a backup image and try this again to see if the problem is at my end (which I am thinking it is). I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Do I need to add padding to the AVS file to reach a certain aspect ration for the files to mux correctly? The ratio I was trying to use was 480x202. The latest issue I am having is:

I am converting more than 1 AVI file at a time. I will have 5 files set up to convert, each of them being the same settings and everything (they are from a series). Each AVI has been set up the exact same. Created with AutoGK, and then set up in XviD4PSP with changes to the AVS file being to resolution and adding borders.

The problem is, 1 file will convert perfect, but when it goes to the next file it will error out saying something about an error in the AVS file on line 4 - nowhere near where my changes have been made. I can then click on CLEAR and START and the file will process fine. However, it will stop after that file is complete, it won't remove it from the list, and it won't start the next file.

I am using release 4.023 as I didn't see anything in 24 and 25 to warrant installing them.

Thanks.

Just now tested and all was ok. Say me avs code before and after your changes. Also format and settings or profile.
Subtitles already supported. Why you stll use gknot before xvid4psp ?

21st August 2006, 17:24
Using AutoGK I can get an AVI with the correct aspect ratio and then I can add padding or borders when creating a PMP file. I tried using a straigh VOB file to PMP but didn't get decent results with the options of aspect ratio. For example, Band Of Brothers comes out to 720x416 aspect ratio. I put that into XviD4PSP AVS file at :

Lanczos4Resize(452, 260)
AddBorders(14, 6, 14, 6, $000000)

This keeps the correct aspect ratio, whereas if I use a VOB, I can't be sure of what my results will be.

Incidently, after having the trouble I mentioned before, I hit the CLEAR button, shut down the program, then went back into it and started the same group of files I was trying to process, and it works fine. I think it may have something to do with what is read into temporary files when I edit the AVS file. If I don't clear it, VirtualDub kicks off right away. When I clear it, the hard drive runs for a few minutes before VirtualDub starts.

winnydows
21st August 2006, 21:29
720x416 non standart aspect. I support only standart aspect. My program miss only one aspect - 1,85:1. May be add it in next version. Most files in internet have incorrect resolution and aspect, like 720x416 or even 234x123. This is why I don`t safe original aspect. May be better will be add option "save aspect". Why you think what 720x416 not = 16:9 ? You always can correct aspect as you like with crop left-right or up-down or with borders. Still don`t understand why need use gknot before.

I try edit 2 files as you write and again encoding was ok. Problem with using gknot before. Don`t use it before. If you don`t like aspect use CW CH BW BH and try change autodetected aspect to another. Preview work good.

opeth2112
21st August 2006, 22:54
I guess if I had a program that would tell me the aspect ratio of a VOB file, I would use it and change the settings accordingly. The main thing is I don't want to crop anything, and I want to keep distortion to a minimum.

How does your program actually analize the VOB to determine the aspect ratio, and what are the differences between Safe Crop and Fit? Trust me, if I could skip the GK step I would love to.

winnydows
21st August 2006, 23:18
My program remove black borders from vob and than try detect aspect from new resolution. But for DVD it very hard. Other way use MediaInfo. But all methods some time make mistake on DVD. I don`t know how make it better now. Even gknot don`t detect right aspect sometimes.

Fit crop all for fit to full screen of PSP.
Safe Crop is golden middle algoritm. Little crop, litle add borders.

How I convert DVD:
1. Add vobs.
2. Press preview (always do it for DVD conversion!). Or you can generate d2v manual and open d2v in xvid4psp.
3. After d2v generation corrected many parameters - size, crop, frames, etc.
4. In 50% aspect don`t detected right. Set manual aspect.
5. If don`t like crop any life information set crop to Manual.
5. Choose most liked aspect.
6. If you don`t like how hads look use BW or BH for adding borders. This will correct aspect. Or use CW or CH if you can crop some life information.

I started maually with DGindex to make my D2V and WAV files, as normal everything went fine, untill DGindex finished, i got a message on screen saying that the field order has been corrected and that the original D2V file was saved with the extension .BAD
So i started X4P and selected my .AVS file, everything ran normally untill i started encoding, the wee black screen came up then dissappered, followed by another one, it went then i got a message saying X4P cant find the video stream in ScaryMovie4.D2V
Plus i tried a command line encode, both video and audio where encoded to 24FPS but when muxed together the audio lags behind about 1.918 seconds

Excellent Winnydows! No problems with 4.26 or 4.27.
One question for you though...is cabac and deblocking included in PMPAVC? Its just i found encoding at a bitrate of 550 there does seem to be alot of blocking in dark areas (as you know) but am just wondering about PMPAVC...when i encoded with MeGUI before i downgraded, i never came across this problem.
Is it to do with the modified stream for PMP?

It can't be repaired unfortunately. It removes rather then repair.

I really have no time to format my comp and upgrade to SP2 as of this period of time. This is cause my SP1 is already a bit unstable so I rather a clean install.

hi,winnydows,it's really a nice gui,but i am a bit more familiar with megui.I tried many different settings(profiles) with megui,all outputs were not playable on my psp.So could u show me the x264 commandline settings using in xvid4psp or simply make a really compatible profile for psp(the psp profile in megui does not work for my psp)?

Beastie Boy
20th October 2006, 13:53
Jerry_Sm@rt, I have the same problem. No matter what I try, nothing will play. I don't know if it's the video or the audio that screws it up, or both. And yet files produced with Xvid4PSP work without a problem, even at 25fps on 2.81 firmware. I would love to know what settings to use for x264 and NeroAACEnc to overcome this.
I'm guessing that Winnydows has now moved over to another forum, so maybe someone else can help?

Many thanks in advance.
Cheers, Beastie.

Its the version of X264 that you are using guys, i did make my PMP,s through MeGUI, you have to convert to raw then mux it an your MP3 file together.
Download X264VFW http://jonny.leffe.dnsalias.com/pmp_mod_avc/rar/x264vfw.rar and replace the current X264 with this one.
If you want i can upload my PMP profile for MeGUI.

Beastie Boy
20th October 2006, 15:37
Thanks Sudds for such a quick reply.
Man, I feel like such a noob!
I've downloaded the vfw file you linked too and installed it. Since this is vfw, do I encode via VDubMod, or can I still use MeGUI.
If MeGUI, which x264.exe file do I point to in the settings? When I hit 'config', I get the old x264 config dialog.
If it's VDubMod, do I output to mkv and demux the RAW file(using some other software)?
I've spent 3 days solid on this now and my heads starting to hurt :).
To clarify, I'm aiming to produce mp4 files at 416x176 res, 25fps to run from the VIDEO folder on firmware 2.81. I know it's possible because Xvid4PSP does it, but I can't. :angry:

Cheers, Beastie.

Sudds
20th October 2006, 19:51
Ohhh...sorry Beastie, i thought you wanted to encode to PMP mate...:rolleyes: Sorry bout that.
Why is it you want to use MeGUI if XVID4PSP was doing your job?
It uses the same engine to encode, set it to quality and try an encode with it.
As far as encoding with MeGUI for 2.80+ it should be Level 2.1@Main profile but am not sure, i will get back to you on that one.

Beastie Boy
20th October 2006, 20:37
The more I use XviD4PSP, the more I like it. It does occasionally give a few problems though, like remembering settings from a previous file, and then not letting you change them.
Also, It bugs the hell out of me that MeGUI will not work. I think I have discovered one problem. In the settings is an option to 'Automatically set number of threads', and this apparently over rides the setting entered in the x264 settings.
I did another encode with this deselected and this also failed. However, when I muxed my video clip with MP3 audio as opposed to NeroAAC, the PSP would play it, but the video was VERY judderry. The clip plays fine in VLC.
I think I will stick with XviD4PSP, but I would still like to get MeGUI working, if only to save my sanity :D

Cheers, Beastie.

Sudds
20th October 2006, 20:38
Try this profile for your 2.80+ Beastie an get back yo me if it works or not.

Place it in the PROFILES/VIDEO folder in MeGUI.

Excellent. Thanks Sudds, that gives great results.
XviD4PSP throws the occasional error and still has a few quirks, but it is one of the best freeware apps that I've come across. I find that loading a d2v file is usually the best as it allows all the settings to be adjusted and is least likely to give erors. The app very often ends with 'Sorry, error.' even though it has still worked.

Thanks again. Cheers, Beastie.

Sudds
21st October 2006, 12:39
No problem Beastie anytime ;)
Could you do a favour for me?
The bottom right selection box has different profiles can you select the very last setting on the list and do an encode with it and get to me with your results?
Am running 2.71 SE-A and cant run 2.80+ movies yet.
Its just for a guide am doing.
:thanks: a million in advance mate.

Hi,

First of all I want to say that this program is superb. :D

But I have a problem. I tried to convert a dvd all the way to a pmp file.

I converted my dvd to an .avi file using DVDFab Platinum. About 1000kb/s and sound in aac and the file was around 1.5gb big. I used Xvid codec to convert it.

Then I converted it to a pmp file using Xvid4PSP. But when I am playing it on my PSP or on my PC it isn't synced with the video.

Sound en video doesnt match. About 4 seconds delay.

Does anyone know what i am doing wrong ? :confused:

Everything works just fine now.

What happened is I downloaded the latest updater and installed that instead of the full install. A few weeks ago I had tested an earlier version of xvid4psp and I'm not sure if it was still there when I did the update, some bits were there, or it was not installed at all. I think there wasn't anything left of the older version and just the update was on the PC

Works fine now.

The PC has XP SP2 and Directx 9c

I used xvid4psp video setting MP4 PSP 480, the outcome was MAQ00001.MP4 and MAQ00001.THM... I placed both files in ms0:\MP_ROOT\101ANV01 and I got to see the icon under video menu on psp, but when I try to play I get the message: This video cannot be played

I have fw3.03 OE-C, am I doing something wrong?

prchulo
11th February 2007, 20:42
yes winnydows i have quicktime alternative 177, i think i know the problem i tried something different this morning. Well the way i was adding a file was to rip it using dvd decrypter in IFO mode to get one single file. I think the problem was that i would rip just one chapter to try out or experiment with the settings, to see how the movie would look on the psp. This morning i burned the hole movie to the hardrive and xvid4psp had no errors. But the only problem iam having now is that it is very slow, i mean before i convert the hole movie i want to convert just a segment of the movie to try out settings. I changed to setting time on xvid4psp to a minute and
it says encoding time is 5 hours. Is there a way to fix this to where i just burn a chapter of the movie instead of the hole movie i think the program would works faster if use a chapter for ex that is 244 mb instead of 7gb. This has worked on older version of your program i just dont know why it not working now. Any help would be appreciated cause i want to get this working because i love your program, thanks!!

Hello guys,

I've been using this fantastic tool to convert my animes into PSP mp4 format (480*272), lately it has gotten actually really fast, resulting in real-time encodings :D...

Anyway, let me come to the point. I've had some problems with it aswell. Don't know wheter it is the program or the Custom firmware (OE3.10A2) but I've already had a "This video cannot be played" error twice. It appeared to always happen when the file is longer than 45minutes or so.
I also get lot's of "VBV underflow"- errors in the first pass, however the second pass seems to be just fine. The video also plays back just perfect on pc...

So my question is basically if anyone knows a workaround for this problem? :(

looks like i spoke too soon. With the mp4 ps3 profile the encodes play fine with powerdvd but i only get a black vid with sound with both quicktime and when on the ps3.

guess i'll have to play with this a little more.

ok after some more playing with the setting it seems like i'm only getting the blank vid with sound when i alter the bitrate. If i use the standard MP4 ps3 profile settings with the set bitrate at 768 everything works fine.

yes mp4 ps3 works fine for me as long as i dont change any settings. If I change the bitrate though (increasing it from 768) then the movie will play as just a black screen w/ sound in quicktime and on the ps3. Though it will still play fine with powerdvd and media player classic.

I love your program! I think its great! the only thing that I find lacking in it is the conversion of MKV files with dual audio and subtitle selection.

Currently I have an anime that is encoded in MKV with 2 audio tracks. The first track is Japanese and the second track is English. I would like to encode the file with the english track instead of the default Japanese track.

Is there an option in which you can select what audio track you want and also if you want the subtitles?

I think a buton, switch, or drop down, with the option to select audio tracks and subtitles would be a great idea. If this can be implemented your program would be the most through program I have seen thus far.

I think you are on your way to having the best encoding software ever.

I have a feature request to make. Im running 3.03 OE-C on my psp, so i can do full res videos (480 x 272). However, it would also be nice to have a 4:3 aspect ratio under the PSP M4P 480 profile, like 363 x 272 (the actual encoding width would be greater, im guessing).

Also, i am having trouble doing custom resolutions...right now i am trying to edit the temp avs file with the res i want, but that isnt really working. So, is it possible to set custom res?

Also, some problems i've been having:

sometimes the video file ends up vertically mirrored (really weird). Im not sure why this is happening

When converting 4:3 video using PSP 480, it doesnt appear to be setting the blackbars correctly in order to keep the aspect ratio the same. Its not adding enough black, which stretches the image out when you tell the psp to do full screen. Ideally, the middle video part should be close to 363 pixels (4/3 * 272) in order to get a good fit. I think the correct number of black pixels to add to each side comes out to 58.7 ~= 59. The program comes up with 44.

I also had a problem using XviD4PSP and 4:3 video or just any video that isn't 16:9 and finally got fed up with it.

I switched to AVIDemux 2.4-development branch and that pretty much does what I want.

You load the video in (4:3, 2.35:1, 16:9, etc..etc..), select Auto -> PSP (H.264) and then I leave the resize type at defaults. (PSP Full Res, 1:1, 1:1) then save the video out and voila, it works perfectly.

AVIDemux uses x264 code so it's pretty fast.

This request for OE firmware creator.

Not really... Here's what i mean:

When encoding the video on your computer using Xvid4PSP, there is no resolution option for 363x272, ie full resolution 4:3. I tried using full res 480x272 encoding and aspect fixing it by adding black bars, but this leaves the video unplayable in quicktime, and completely upside down in MPC!!!. Also, I had to manually tell it to add the correct number of blackbar pixels, because it wasn't adding enough causing the image to stretch. So, i haven't even touched the psp yet and there are several problems. This is using the MP4 PSP 480 "core" in Xvid4PSP.

I really am trying to get this transcoder to work. But I'm about done trying.

I live in the US (NTSC). My son has a PSP FW v2.71. I have tried all different sorts of formats only applying the defaults (MP4 PSP 480, MP4 PSP 2.80 (I know my f/w is only 2.71), PMP AVC). But on the PSP all I get is "Unsupported data" or "No movies found" or sometimes "Corrupted media".

I put the vids in the H:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01 folder
I make sure they are named M4V00001.MP4.

If XviD4PSP renames the file MAQ00001.MP4 then I tried putting it in the \100ANV01 folder.

I noted that Xvid4PSP defaults to a frame rate of 25. I tried switching that to 29.97. Nothing. I uninstalled/reinstalled. Nothing.

PSP Video 9 worked fine...first time. No problems. So what gives? I would like to use XviD4PSP since it enables me to Join multiple *.VOB's...I don't believe PSP Video 9 does that.

All I would like to know is, which default profile do I need to get this to work? And are there any specific settings I need to change for my son's PSP?

Newbie needing help here. :-)

I just started using this program. Here's what I did:

- Ripped a chapter using DVD Decrypter (IFO mode, Enable stream processing).
- Started XviD4PSP, a dialog popped up and asked about creating index. Did that.
- Another dialog popped up and started to play the chapter. Stopped it. Accepted everything at default.
- Another dialog popped up showing encoding settings. Changed to "MP4 PSP 480" and kept everything else at default.
- Click on "Start"
- After everything was finished, transfered the finished files to PSP (3.03 OE-C).
- Was able to launch the movie clip from XMB.

Problem: There were black bars all around the picture. That is, the picture was not filling up the full screen. The original DVD is a widescreen movie.

Questions:

1- Did I miss a setting somewhere?
2- Is using vob files ripped by DVD Decrypter a good idea? I want to be able to convert certain chapters and not the whole dvd (for music videos). If not, what's the best way?
3- Why does it ask to create index everytime a mpeg4 VOB file is opened?

Observations:

1- Nice looking program!
2- If I don't create index when it asked me, the sound is is just noise. Normal?

Thanks in advance, guys/gals.

Hi!
On your psp you have 3 screen mode:"zoom", "normal", "full screen".
The default mode is "normal" mode, this mode zoom out your 480x272 movie. Just put the screen mode to "full screen" and your movie will be in full screen.

Thanks for the awesome program Winnydows!

I recently upgraded the firmware of my psp to 3.10 OE-A' and I'm using this converter exclusively. The interface is simple and straight-forward. The amount of conversion options is simply amazing.

I'm really glad to see FLV output in the latest version (I can't wait to try it out)--I might recommend we start using this at work for our flash video conversion as we also have Sorensen Squeeze 4 for Flash.

The only problem I've had is very rarely the audio gets out of sync--but I haven't had that problem since I updated to 4.107.

Once again--thanks for the converter.:)

Thanks for a great program Winnydows.

I have a suggestion for an automatic resize option. If you expose an option for automatically resizing movies, such that the aspect ratio of the original movie is maintained, you can use the folloing AVS script code to do the automatic resize:

fWidth=Float(video.width)
fHeight=Float(video.height)

currentAr=fWidth/fHeight
targetAr=480.0/272.0

cropLeft=0
cropRight=0
cropTop=0
cropBottom=0

# PSP native resolution is 480/272 -> 1.7647058823529411764705882352941
currentAr > targetAr ? Eval("""
diff=Round(fWidth-(fHeight*targetAr))
cropLeft=diff/2-diff%2
cropRight=diff/2+diff%2
""") : Eval("""
diff=Round(fHeight-(fWidth/targetAr))
cropTop=diff/2-diff%2
cropBottom=diff/2+diff%2
""")

cropLeft=cropLeft-(cropLeft%2)
cropRight=cropRight+(cropRight%2)
cropTop=cropTop-(cropTop%2)
cropBottom=cropBottom+(cropBottom%2)

video = video.Crop(cropLeft, cropTop, -cropRight, -cropBottom)
video = video.Lanczos4Resize(480, 272)

This will crop the video such that the Lanczos4Resize(480, 272) will not result in the aspect ratio changing...

I hope you will add this as an option, since it is a bit tedious to change the script manually every time :)

Doesn't XvidD4PSP work with the new 3.30 firmware and its new support for 480x272? - The movies converted using the MP4 PSP 480 profile don't play on my PSP (which has firmware 3.30 on it).

for files with 119.88 fps (120fps), encoding is extra slow. For example, I had a movie file that was 25minutes and to encode it to 480x272, it took about 50 minutes. I used quantizer turbo. This happens for other settings too. How do I speed things up? this doesn't happen for 23.976 or 29.97 fps.

Thanks, but now it doesn`t need anymore.

Just tried the latest version and as far as I can tell it still doesn't crop correctly when resizing.

I have a movie of size "624 x 256" which I would like to convert for my PSP to "480 x 272". I set the "Aspect" to 1.765 and select "Crop" for the "AspectFix". It then chooses to crop the movie by video = video.Crop(38, 0, -38, -0) which will result in an input aspect ratio of ~2.141. This then clearly results in stretching of the movie, which is what my privious AVS script example avoids.

I'm not sure where XviD4PSP gets the cropping values from (38 and -38), but they are certainly wrong....

so whenever I try 4:3 ratio file, program automatically sets for 369*272. I'm trying to encode with 3.30 firmware mp4. However, when I play the file in psp, it does not change the ratio to 4:3. It only can play 16:9. when I try to change the screen mode, all it gives you is 16:9 ratio. Is there any way to fix this?

You could try removing "--sar 1:1" from the parameters fed to x264. If nothing else works, you could always just edit your .avs script and add borders until you reach 480x272.

Use visual crop.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "visual crop" - but if you are saying that I should just do it manually in the window that pops up when I open a movie file, then that sounds like a bad solution, when it can so easily be done automatically.

I've even posted the code that does it - so it would be a simple matter of adding it as an option in the program - e.g. maintain aspect ratio when changing resolution.

I don`t know what you do wrong, but:

Well I''m not sure what formula you are refering to - it must be internally in the application and not in the script, since there isn't any formula in the script. And I certainly don't see how it can work "better", seeing as it either works or not (and the one I posted works).

Anyway here are the options that I have used for converting the video:

http://tanjaogmorten.mine.nu/crop.jpg

The original size of the video is "624x256" - The width should therefore be cropped by a total of 172 pixels to maintain the aspect ratio. However the script produced by Xvid4PSP does this:

#Change movie resolution
video = video.Crop(38, 0, -38, -0)
video = video.Lanczos4Resize(480, 272)

And the output movie is distorted since the aspect ratio is not maintained. So I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it would be excellent if you could clarify it for me, please :)

Thanks,
Morten

I don`t have time recalculate my formula, but you can correct me if you want:

Well, I guess your a busy man - aren't we all. Anyway, if you had bothered sticking the numbers that I gave in my previous post into the code that you posted, you would realize that your code has a bug.

You are trying to calculate how much the input video should be cropped based on the size of the output video - that clearly isn't going to work since you have lost all information about the size of the input video.

So this
If oldAspect < newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = (newRes.Width / oldAspect) - newRes.Height
and this
If oldAspect > newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = newRes.Height - (newRes.Width / oldAspect)
doesn't work. It should be changed to something like this (notice that oldRes isn't actually available in the current scope - but I'm sure you can find a way of making it available).

If oldAspect < newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = oldRes.Height - (oldRes.Width / newAspect)
and
If oldAspect > newAspect Then
Dim missed As Integer = oldRes.Width - (oldRes.Height * newAspect)

Remember to change it in all 3 places (Crop, Black and Crop+Black).

Hope that helps,
Morten

I have a question about psp playback ratio for firmware 3.30. I realized that 480*272 is not the usual 16:9 ratio which is 1.778. So lets say if I encode a movie with 1.778 ratio without any black boarder. Can psp play it 1.778 or will it play it 1.765 ratio? and I'm talking about firmware 3.30 here, not the custom firmware.

3.30 play any aspect and any resolution <= 480x272. High res - 740x480 - will play with wrong aspect, but it can be fixed with triangle.

So I just discovered, that my PS3 (fw 1.6) supports SAR.
I encoded LotR1 with SAR=141/100 at 720x432 and got a nice 1:2.35 clip with correct aspect ratio.
Imho anamorphic encodes (if supported by player) looks better than resized ones, because they keep more details.

Maybe an idea to implement.

When my psp was in 3.03 rev C OE firmware, i've done somes videos using 4.109 Xvid4PSP (mp4 480 profile).
Now with firmware 3.40 OE some of these old videos can't be read by my psp and i don't know why? All my videos were done with the same profile, same audio and video bitrate... I just renamed them from MAQxxxxx.mp4 to their original title.

Any idea about this bug ?

Old files must be named by old technique and placed to old folder. Only new files will play from new folder.

@BlueCup
Let me finish 4.113.

@Wishbringer
I think about SAR usage too. May be later we can speak about thi. Now many work with 4.113.
4.113 will be with full interlace support for MPEG2.

XviD4PSP 4.113 full (http://winnydows.com/download/xvid4psp/XviD4PSP_4113_full.exe)
XviD4PSP 4.113 lite (http://winnydows.com/download/xvid4psp/XviD4PSP_4113_lite.exe)

4.113 changes:
Fixed 48000 Khz files encoding to FLV.
For MPEG2 added new encoding profiles. (1-pass Ultra, 2-pass Ultra).
Now 1-pass Ultra for MPEG2 encoding do almost same quality as 3-pass Ultra in old versions.
Added two new formats - MP4 BlackBerry 8100, MP4 BlackBerry 8800.
Added SeeSaw sharpen filter and same remastring profile. Very good filter. Probably can replace LimitedSharpen filter.
More formats now support audio COPY.
Fixed many small bugs.
Added full support interlaced sources encoding. Only for MPEG2 now.
Media Player Classic replaced to internal player.
Preview now start faster.
Founede temporary solution for AVI Mux GUI and non-english path.
Returned one old format - MP4 PSP 3.03 OE (MP4 PSP 3.10 OE B + bitrate lock).
Fixed Black aspect fix.
x264 updated to version 654.
Mencoder updated to version 23107.

First off, I would like to say thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have an Archos 604 wifi and for the most part it was rather easy to get XviD4PSP to create x264/mp4 files playable with its podcast plugin.

I'm curious though if is possible to make custom settings alongside the turbo, simple, ultra and extreme modes without the need to alter the command line each time. My archos was dropping frames on videos with heavy motion even when using the turbo and simple options for the x264 codec and the way I got it to stop was by removing various switches in the command line. The task of setting up 140 batch jobs for music videos and removing the switches for each job became rather repetitive. If there is a way to customize the CLI without manually editing it for each job, that would be awesome.

This is just a minor gripe. The program saved a lot of time regardless. Thanks!

First of all, this is one awesome quality producer! I just love it for my iPod!

iPod MP4 640 profile on the 4.113 release doesn't work i.e. iTunes reports the bitrate error being out of capability!
But untill the 4.106 version everything worked smooth! The current one works for some videos and doesn't work on some whereas no prbs with the 4.106! Do handle this in your future release!

Keep up the development!

blocking can occur if the bitrate its too low, so I suggest maybe reencode the video with a higher bitrate.
Another reason for blocking is if the resolution of your source is very small for example 320x240 and you encode the video for example for your psp 480xXXX the video gets stretched causing the blocking

Yes I know this information already but thanks for helping anyways xp. I always encode my videos at the best quality using quantizer extreme and all of my source's resolutions are larger than the psp's. However, some of my encoded videos do still have some noticeable blocking. Is it possible to eliminate all of it?

I'm asking whether this program has any filters or other features/options that help reduce blocking.

I'd really like to use this fine app, but for the life of me, I can't open any files with it! As soon as hit open a file, Vista reports that the app must shut down. I have tried with a mp4, mov, and wmv. All 3 playback just fine in WMP. I have uninstalled Haali's splitter, and installed all components of Xvid4PSP.

I have UAC turned off, I've run as an admin, and the only filters I've installed are ffdshow and VSfilter. :confused:

I'm usually one to not have any problems with such software...

EDIT: I installed this on another fairly clean Vista machine, and the app fails to open at all! This is with the latest build. So, I'm not sure what's going here...

I've just finished an encode of a movie using xvid4psp, with the PSP 3.30 setting. I encoded from my own avs file and everything worked perfectly, no errors or warnings.
The resultant file plays perfectly on my PC, but the PSP refuses to play it, displaying the 'This video is not supported' error.
My first attempt was at 480x192, then I added borders to make 480x272 but neither file played. Any ideas?

For info, I used 800kbps video, 1-pass turbo (as this was just a test), 96 and 128 kbps audio. My firmware is genuine version 3.40.

Cheers, Beastie.

480x192 should play fine (does here with 3.40)
but perhaps your avs files makes problems:
I had an anime at pal (25fps) and used a blendremover and dubframesremover to come down to original anime-fps from around 14fps.
that video encoded fine and played fine at pc, but not at psp.
when leaving 25 fps or convert down to 24 fps, video still played on psp...

These are the standard settings I always use and they haven't failed me - yet. I have the same firmware.

Video Bitrate: 768
Audio Codec: AAC LC
Audio Bitrate: 128

I wonder if frame rate is the issue. My source is 23.976 fps, straight from HD-DVD. I shall try converting the audio to wave, stretching to 24fps and adding assumefps(24) to my script.

I'm sure the avs script itself isn't causing problems, it plays fine in MPC, as does the finished mp4 file.

Thanks for the replies.
Cheers, Beastie.

EDIT: Can anyone tell me which frame rates the PSP supports? I'm at work at the moment, and any sites remotely related to gaming are blocked so I can't check myself.

To answer my own question, it seems the frame rate was the problem. I converted to 25fps and the file played. However, the 480x192 picture was stretched vertically and filled the screen. Is there anyway to avoid this, without encoding black borders into the file?

There is an option in PSP while playing videos. You can choose: original, normal, stretched and fullscreen.
when coosing normal you get a in width stretched (or not when encode is 480) with right AR.

I seem to have this weird problem when I switched to the latest version of xvid4psp (4.114). Whenever I try to encode a video using the 2nd audio stream it gives me this error:

DirectShowSource: Could not open as video or audio.

Video returned: "DirectShowSource: couldn't open file
No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."

Audio returned: "DirectShowSource: couldn't open file

When I encode using audio stream 1 it works normally but doesn't for audio stream 2 for some reason.

At the moment, the PS3 downmixes all multi-channel audio to stereo. I hope this is addressed soon as it is the one thing currently holding me back from buying the machine.

AFAIK, the only way to get multi-channel sound is to create a AVCHD file.

Hello!

XviD4PSP works fine with my administrator account, but today, I've created a limited user account for my son.

With this account XviD4PSP can't access "c:\temp\fake.avs", so I've created a folder "Temp" in drive "D:" (the limited account can access to "D:" drive), but when I open a video (directory "D:\Mes vidéos\XXX.avi") the video is flipped vertically!!!!

I didn't change any setting but temp folder and destination folder.

I've switched to my administrator account, opened the same vidéo which is diplayed normally (no vertical flip)...

All the videos are flipped in limited user account.

I tried the setting "offset & flip" in "settings\video decoder configuration", but there's no changes.

Any idea???

I have just started using this program for the first time, and have come across a problem, hopefully someone can help me with it! When I load an Xvid file for conversion to iPod format, I get the following message:

DirectShowSource: I cant determine the frame rate of the video, you must use the "fps" parameter. (C:\Temp\preview.avs, line 1)

I have gone to the location specified, and there is a file called preview.avs there, but I have no idea what to do with it??? I have looked at the video file in Gspot and it says the splitter is Radlight Ogg Splitter, video decoder is Divx, audio decoder is Radlight Vorbis Decoder. Can someone help please???

Many thanks
Bigweed

Hey winnydows, nice work with the new interface in the 5+ versions. One quick question; is the pmp container format output gone? It's what I always used in the 4 series. Also, in the 5 series how do I make use of embedded subtitles in an mkv or ogm?

I realise that XVID4PSP doesn't natively support DVD subtitles, but is it possible to rip the subtitles via some other method and then combine them with a DVD input in XVID4PSP?

Hi, I'm new to all this. I've tried doing DVD Shrink w/all my movies that I own so that I can watch them on my PSP. Everytime I try to do it, it shrinks it and saves it. I followed the instructions as far as re authring them. The trouble is when I go to XVID and start the encoding I get error messages. On one PC it says it doesnt know what audio means and directs it to a temp folder .av1. On the second computer it gives me that one or sometimes it tells me its in access violation and the preview screen is all messed up.

Using v4114 on two machines running WinXP.
Machine 1 works fine.
Machine 2 - I open an MKV file and the first preview plays file, video and audio.

The MKV has two audio tracks.

If I leave it on track 1 (Japanese), everything works fine.

If I switch it to track 2 (English), the original preview plays fine (Japanese audio still, but machine 1 also does this, then uses the English track to transcode), but when I try to preview it in the "Main/Advanced/Info" window I get a message like "DirectShowSource couldn't open as video or audio FILENAME.OGG"

This works fine on my older, slower machine.

I tried DLing v4115 and 5.023 Beta - no help.

I tried re-installing K-Lite and now both versions can handle the files.

But I am going to stick with ver 4.1.1.5

I archive several TV shows, and I use Xvid4PSP to transcode them so that either 1 or 1/2 season of shows will fit on one DVD-R. It's so annoying to DL a 24 episode show that is just a little too big for one DVD-R.

I like it because I can set it for this aspect ratio, that resolution, and set the filesize to come out what I want.

On version 5 I managed to find the settings, but I can't find filesize at all, so I'll stick with the older one for now.
If I want to use trial and error to get the correct settings I'll use Pocket DivX.

Just my $0.25, and hardly worth that much.

Keep in mind that everytime I give advice about transcoding, this app comes up first in the conversation. :)

spent the last couple of hours testing out converters for my ipod touch and everything else is just crap. I'm serious, winnydows, this is by far the cleanest, most efficient and elegant solution around. can't believe it's free.

although it worked perfectly (at least on the tested resident evil dvdrip), I got a couple of questions;

- the touch could do 640x480, but the installed profiles use 480xX max, why is that?

- I actually changed that in the script since most of my tv shows and a lot of movies are 640 or below I figured it would speed up the transcoding process but in fact, an xvid (original size 640x272) that had the HQ Turbo profile applied did only 2fps compared to the same xvid using your unchanged HQ Turbo profile which did 30+fps. to me that doesnt make any sense. by removing resize from the avisynth script and therefore leaving the video dimensions untouched it should lessen the transcoding job and not increase it, right? meaning, it should be a lot faster than when resize is applied.....

- finally, a bit of a n00b question....there is no way to just take all xvids (my understanding is, it's a mpg4 codec too) and repack them into another container than avi and have them play on the ipod touch without having to transcode everything, right?

cheers for now. keep up the amazing work!

Thanks for the software update Winnydows, I will update my 5.023 version as soon as my encoding is done here ;)

I was searching for a conversion tool to convert WMV-HD files encoded with the WVC1 video and WMA Professional 10 audio codecs to MPEG-4/AVC files that can be played from the internal hard drive of the PS3.

Currently, I got the best results with Xvid4PSP using the MP4 PS3 profile "X264 2P 4000k Extreme" :) Picture Quality is almost the same as with my original WMV-HD files :cool:

Most of the WMV-HD files are encoded in 720p @ 24fps and they are recognized very well in Xvid4PSP, however with 1080p @ 24fps WMV-HD files Xvid4PSP stops after encoding approx. 1h58mins :confused:

Maybe I should downscale 1080p to 720p to overcome this problem? Some of my 1080p WMV-HD video files have 1920x1040 pixels and not 1920x1080 pixels.

Can you please help me how I should downscale 1920x1040 to 720p without loosing the aspect ratio of my source file?
Should I downcale 1920x1040 to 1280x720 with black bars or to 1280x693 without black bars?

Is it TRUE that a PS3 with FW1.93 is NOT capable of playing MPEG-4/AVC files >4GB from the internal hard drive? I can copy files >4GB to the internal hard drive but cannot play them :(

Thanks,
Fico

Hello, and thanks to anyone involved in this excellent tool.

The screenshots on page 1 of this thread show Nero as the audio encoding tool with the ability to select ABR mode as an encoding option.This now seems to be removed.

I was wondering why or is VBR or ABR now used as default? And is Nero still the default encoder?The sound quality is very important to me and I would like to use at least ABR if possible.

CBR appears to be the current default.

Thanks for any clarification..

Edit - Sorry,I was using and older version.Just discovered version 5 and all is clear now. Thanks again to all involved. Fantastic tool!

Hi!

Thanks for the hard work! I really enjoy using XviD4PSP.

However, I've been having several issues with XviD4PSP_5025_beta (update installed) that were not present with 5024.

1) Unable to see the divx video I'm trying to re-encode from the preview window
2) Unable to start an encoding session remotely using Window XP remote desktop; x264 never starts!?
3) Hanging during 2nd pass
4) Unable to start 2nd pass (due to process not being present?)

Every time, I try to convert a 704x396 divx6 with mp3 192kbps using the "X264 2P 768k Ultra" profile.

Edit: So I've finally been able to encode what I had to encode; issue #3 or #4 did not occur. Not sure what triggers these issues; could it be related to the fact that I'm multitasking while encoding?

Really? Do UMD movies also have this problem as well?

Yes, but it's covered up because they either adjust the levels dynamically with the UMD Player in the PSP or they encode the movies within the levels that cause less of that ghosting.

Basically, I think you can duplicate it by just using PC -> TV color settings when encoding. The problem is that your blacks will no longer be dark black but more of a grey.

I really like this ap, what I wonder though is how to set it in such a way that it always converts to a certain resolution. Currently it encodes to 480x272 automatically (Ipod Touch) but I would like it to make it 480x320. I now have to set this every time I add an encode, can this be set somehow as a default ?

The same for downsampling to 44100 KHz ...

And another feature I miss (or cannot figure out) is to add multiple inputs at once (and also save them at once) including the automatic selection of the subtitles. This would really speed up the process of adding my collection of vids.

Hi, I've been using XVID4PSP for a few weeks now to convert MKVs to something the 360 will play natively (usually MP4 format).

It's a really nice tool but there is one thing which I'd like to be able to do - the 360 will play XVID files with 5.1 AC3 audio in AVI containers, but it's limited to 2 channel AAC audio for H.264 MP4 files. Would it be possible to add an encoding option for AC3 sound in XVID AVI files?

Thanks!

Also, should XVID4PSP be able to handle VOBSUB subtitle files okay? It always seems to crash when I try!

I just grabbed the latest version of XVID4PSP and I saw I could indeed encode to AC3 XVID using AVIs! I did a test and it worked great, but can I ask which is the best quality possible - is it XVID HQ Extreme, or XVID HQ Ultra?

I did run across a problem though. I tried to change the aspect ratio on a video and I got a giant red error message written across the preview window - "Evaluate: System Exception - Access Violation (C:\temp\preview.avs, line 11).

One other thing - when you ripp a DVD using something like DVD decrypter, the VOBSUB subtitles are already in the main VOB file (I think?). Might there be a way for XVID4PSP to use those subtitles and burn them into the video? Perhaps ask to use the subs as it asks which language file to use when there are multiple tracks?

Whats the difference between AVI and AVI Hardware? I'm trying to get a movie hardcoded with subs to play on the PS3. :thanks:

BTW, a really useful tool when adding subs to something is MKVExtract. It allows you to pull embedded subs out of an MKV file so you can feed them to XVID2PSP to burn into the video.

@picachux
AVI set to max XviD quality without compatibility with Hardware DVD.
AVI Hardware set to max of possible quality without compatibility loss, but quality ofcource not so good as in AVI.
PS3 have many locked feautures of XviD in current firmware, so AVI Hardware will be best choise, after MP4 PS3, much much after.

I've been trying to convert an H.264 AC3 720p MKV but whenever I try to add the subtitle file (either in it's original .ass format, or converted into .srt) I always get the "Evaluate: System Exception - Access Violation (C:\temp\preview.avs, line 11)" error in XVID4PSP. I've ever tried remuxing the video, stripping it of everything except it's video and audio streams.

Any idea what's causing this? The file seems ordinary enough, and plays fine in WMP or VLC.
Thanks!

Hi, I just downloaded your latest version and it looks good.

Btw, how can I change the resolution? Cuz it's set to 480x272 for PSP and ripped clips are not in correct AR.

Nvm. just found it and I was like WOW~! THIS IS THE GREATEST PSP COVERTER I've SEEEN :w00t:! wish I still have my PSP :\

50 fps + ! Pretty impressive :)

Btw, how do I add jobs and let it encode one after one while I am away? Can't find it yet :\

*EDIT*

I tested with a file and it doesn't play on my PSP :(

Can anyone help?

It always says Unsupport Data. This happens only when I encode with other encoders which are not automatic like once-click encoders etc.
http://i11.tinypic.com/7wt013k.png

I have an automatic one-click encoder (I bought it) and all its converted files work fine, but the the output files from MeGUI, RipBot, and this XviD4PSP doesn't work!

I've on Version 3.40 OE-A.

Thanks.

Put video to correct folder: /VIDEO.

MKVCrazy
24th December 2007, 21:58
I put that in H:/PSP/VIDEO

and it just disappear on the PSP

Btw, I named it as MAQ20008.MP4

Is there any special name I should give?

H:/VIDEO/AnyFileName.MP4

Better don`t use MAQ mask it may confuse PSP.

Jobs:
Open - Save - Open - Save - Encode.
or
Open - Save - Save - Encode.

Btw, I just found someone's suggestion to change the sameplerate from 48 kHz to 24kHz but I can't find 24 so Im testing it with 22 kHz.

I think it's because of the AVC Level. I heard that 3.40 OE-A is only works with 2.0 or something. But the AVC Level you provided is 3.0 :0

From 3.03 PSP accept 3.0 level.
PSP accept any samplerate <= 48000 hz.

Usual mistakes:
wrong folder for video
wrong firmware.

Are you set format to MP4 PSP AVC ?
Are you shure place video in H:/VIDEO ? Not to PSP/VIDEO!
Shure play this video with XMB player ?
Are you shure use 5.027 RC2 ?

As alternative you can try on small file and you can try MP4 PSP ASP format.
And post encoding log if nothing help.

I beg for your forgiveness.

It was my fault :\

Yes it's now working when I place the file in H:/VIDEO

I was used to put my files in H:/MP_ROOT/100ANV01 for AVC types.

Btw, may you kindly explain how to add jobs and let it convert while Im away?

Thanks alot for your help.

My bad.

Oh, now I got it. Every time I save. It's saved to the Task List. Nice feature. I just never use this type of video converter for my PSP :lol:

Another small problem again.

When I try to set the video bitrate by myself it crashes.

It was already set to "Constant Quality" and a "21" under that thing.

Then I press the drop down menu and as soon as I press on the "2 pass" it just crashes and will stop me. :\

What can that be?

I've successfully encoded a 2 mins clip with "Constant Quality" but can't set bitrate manually.

Try this one. Or try change preset to 2P before change mode. I can`t reproduce your error. Any way add crash protection for mode switch.

Can you please create a tutorial for converting mkv to Ps3 playable format ? I've tried different files but without any luck. Since there are so many options in the software, it would be great if you can create a step by step tutorial.

Thanks.

First off, this is great. This is the only probram that I can get to encode AVC/AAC mp4's that WORK on my PSP.

But there is one input format I am trying to get working. I want to encode .flv files to the PSP. But each time they error. It plays fine in WMP (using ffdshow)

Anybody had any success getting EVO's encoded via XVID4PSP? This app is excellent for my blu-rays...probably as simple and straightforward as it could possibly be. It sure beats the hell out of using MeGUI for anybody but the most hardcore users!

Also, is anybody else having issues with the aspect ratio auto detection? I've had a couple of 2.35:1 movies that XVID4PSP seems hell-bent on turning into 16:9. I just manually select the correct input and output AR's, but I'm wondering if there's something I should be doing or not doing that's causing the auto-detect to act screwy.

Thanks again for such a great app, Winnydows! If I can figure out how to rip EVO's, I will DEFINITELY be donating ;)

Odie,

Did you have everything checked when you installed the program? When I had that 2nd option selected (the codec I can't remember), it never gave me that error message. Even with the error message, I haven't encountered any problems with my BDs, but so far I've only tried to convert HD material.

I get a smaller file size in x264 HQ Ultra than in Extreme. Shouldn't the opposite have happened.
HQ Turbo - fastest encoding with very good quality, out file size will be big.
HQ Ultra - optimal combination of speed/quality/size.
HQ Extreme - slowest mode, but file will be as small as it possible with HQ quality.

I'm doing for Ipod Touch

And what is the best settings to have lowest file size .. yet HQ quality.

Just started playing around with this as I want to save some apce whilst getting some good quality stuff.

I converted a movie from vob files (4.2gb) which ended up with a filesize of 670mb at quality q21 - looked great

I conveted a (albeit slightly longer) dvd-ms file from Media Center, which was originally 2.7GB and the resulting MP4 was still 2.7GB!

Why is this?

Thank you, diego7-5. I had it installed and then I un-installed it because I think it was crashing or had a conflict with something else. I have ffdshow installed, megui, staxrip and other similar software which install codecs and similar things. I am totally inexperienced in this field.
