Yes, it would have been very cool if ASF had been used for HD DVD.

But it isn't alas.

MP4 as container is much coolest than ASF :)
Ben, already encoded VC-1 HD-DVD stream possible to package with drm to wmv without recompression?
Thanks.

ASF has got a lot of great features that haven't been much used. But neither format got used by either HD optical format.

It's certainly possible, and not even theoretically difficult, but I'm not aware of any tools that are available to do that. Can you give me some details on what you're trying to do?

They trick is getting the .vc1 into a .wmv. Once you have a .wmv, it's easy to apply DRM to the already encoded file.

Maybe he dreams of lossless managed copy.

I have VC-1 stream encoded to be fully compliant for HD-DVD.
Now i want the same file to package with adding DRM into WMV container by utilize wmrm sdk 10.1
and without reencoding existed VC-1 stream. It is possible or not?

Muxing should be possible with Solveig ASF multiplexer. About demux I am not sure. Can you upload a sample for tests?

It's absolutely possible by the ASF and VC-1 specs. I'm not sure what tools available would be able to do it though.

Better speed? better quality?

I don't have any comparative data that would quantify it. This is primarily a WMP release. The player install package just happens to always be built with the latest codec versions. The focus has been on fixing bugs, I know that much.
