I don't know if I'm dreaming, but it seems that Scenaid bitrate prevision doesn't takes Subtitles into account.

Is that right ?

Beccause usually movies with 1-2 subs fit perfectly (I'm using "safe-30"), but with ~6-10 subs it often 20-30Mo oversized (usually 4.38-4.40Go)
And I'm not keeping 10 differents languages. But on some DVD, even when I choose French+English subs, it represents 2 subs for FR (W/L), 2 for US (W/L), and some more for the differents commentaries.

(I use BatchCCEws + "use Scenaid settings")

I always keep all subs and there's no oversizing problem. Subs don't take much space anyway

D3s7

He is correct though and yes it can happen

I'm working on bitrate tweeks currently thanks to some improved overhead calcs. Subs are hard to calculate because there is no real formula for saying what size they will be when in rle form short of looking at the old .sub pack (which I may do)

Thanks for the answer.

I wasn't sure it comes from it, beccause like influenza said, it doesn't happend everytime.
It's like their were bigger subs than others.

I just did my first Big3 project in well over a year because I needed IVTC (reinstalling everything but Scenarist) and after some tinkering it worked great. Scenaid worked flawlessly, except when I tried to hack the extra scripts to Half-D1, then it crashed immediately. I did that manually all the time back in the day, but I couldn't recall how exactly. Scenaid was also a very different beast back then, it's made a lot of progress.

I just wanted to say thanks for the program.

@wmansir
nice to see you back in the club :D

@wmansir: I always hack my avs files outside of scenaid to achieve half-d1. If you do this you cannot use muxman though. Which is a shame, since muxman is so much faster then scenarist. A well you can't have it all (yet) :P

mpucoder
9th January 2006, 15:12
Tell me why MuxMan won't work, and maybe I can fix it.

influenza
9th January 2006, 15:25
Well it's because scenaid doesn't know that I encode my assets at half d1 and doesn't take that into account into the script. So when the script is fed to muxman it won't mux it because of the different display size. So I don't know if that's something you should look into.

mpucoder
9th January 2006, 16:57
The resolution in the script is only a preference, if there are no assets with that resolution the first video file sets the resolution.
Are these files mpeg-1? If so, there was a bug introduced at 0.12 that has just been fixed in 0.14h, 0.15L, and 0.16.2

influenza
9th January 2006, 17:03
Hmm I haven't done half-d1 for some time, but untill recently I always got errors (muxman didn't mux because of changed resolution). It's just mpeg2 at half d1 btw. I'll give it a try with the latest muxman and report back.

edit:
@d3s7, starnagely enough I don't have oversize problems on regular demuxes (by pgc) and I usually keep all subs (up to 20 in some cases, but ussually at least 5-10)

wmansir
9th January 2006, 17:47
Looks like I spoke a little too soon. The disc I'm doing is Scrubs S2 D1. It has 5 episodes with audio commentary on episodes 1,2 and 5. But on my backup the commentary from 5 is on episode 3. It think this is because the layout has 1 big playback PCG for "Play all" and then reuses VOBID for the individual episode PGCs. Of course DIF4U unchecked all the reused PCGs and demuxed the one big PCG. The demuxed 2nd audio contained only the commentary for the 3 episodes and that removed the gap in the second audio track where eps 3 and 4 were.

I'm going to try Demux by VOBid, that should fix this right?

Regarding half-D1: I manually edited the .avs files and Scenaid didn't crash util I clicked on the VTS's button. Perhaps it's the preview window?

I ended up just blanking out the feature and running that thru DVD-RB to half-D1 the extras then copying over the VTS set for the exras.

Half D1 didn't work for me either. Same problem as influenza discribed. Sad but true.

I just realized I forgot to update to the latest executible after installing 1.7.0.0 full, so my previous error report may be outdated.

Also, FYI, I tried to use the "Scenaid Help File" shortcut that the full install routine put on my startmenu, but it didn't find the file.

Hi D3s7,

I don't know if you already know, but ScenAid 1.7.0.7 does not work with DGMPGDec 1.4.6.
If I use this combination ScenAid creates the new d2v-file but after creating this error message pops up
Procedure Name: ProcessAVS
Module Name: ProcessAssets

Error Number: 6
Error Description: Overflow
Error Source: ScenAid
Error Line: 90
Call Stack:

After closing the error window ScenAid processes as usual.
Building the scp-script and and new avs-script works fine. But the scenaid-ccedata.txt is empty. Just the version number in the first row.

Switching back to DGMPGDec 1.4.5 works fine.

everytime neuron2 changes the params it means a possible rewrite of parsing routines. im sure d3s7 will include support when he can. thanks for the heads up however.

D3s7
14th February 2006, 17:52
Scenaid actually doesn't parse the files.. it just creates them.. although, it's possible that the DLL's aren't in the proper location or something... the error you are seeing I believe is from it trying to get the file info out of the new avs/d2v's

can you open the .avs in MP?

D3s7
14th February 2006, 17:53
it's also possible the CLI changed and the files aren't being created all the way

FreaQ
14th February 2006, 21:02
I did put dgdecode.dll and .exe into my ScenAid directory. Opening the created avs in MPC does not work. MPC crashes.
Opening the d2v works fine. It seems probarbly created.

I checked the logfiles and I think you were right with the CLI.

I will see about updating the CLI to support the newer version.. I haven't yet seeing how soon DIF will support DGDecode although, a locked version.

Unfortunatly the CLI and .d2v format keeps changing making it difficult to keep up

FreaQ
21st February 2006, 19:02
If we have to stick with a particular version I would not mind.
I came into this because I had to re-install my PC. I took the newest versions of the needed programs. Thought I was clever. :)

Btw: When will be Dif4U 1.4.8 released? With DGDecode support?

@FreaQ

I dont know if its relevant, but try copying the vfapi plugin too, dgvfapi.vfp or so.

@d3s7

What is the changelog for scenaid 1.7.0.7? I fail to find it.

D3s7 - I'm looking to get VIP access to Scenaid. I think it's a great program man, well done. I donated via paypal a few days ago, and hadn't heard anything, so I figured I'd try a post - I can't wait to try it with muxman, as muxman helped with numenu4u tremendously. I'd be happy to verify my payment with you, let me know what I can do to facilitate this. If you already got this message in a different form, I apologize.
Thanks,
Kurgan

I think D3s7 is away for a few days - so you might have to wait a day or so.

It would be so nice if I could change every VTS to main and not only one (important for Music DVDs) and it would be cool if you could set a custom size of the DVD. ;)

Hello.

How is the subpicture size estimated? I've read that it's quite inaccurate and I noticed that vobblanker can estimate the subpic size in range of KBs.

So, maybe you guys should ask jsoto about how the subs should be calculated

D3s7
16th May 2006, 02:06
they aren't.... which is why they are inaccurate

subs are not figured into bitrate calculations which works fine when you have 6 or less streams with normal amount of pictures.

More then that and it gets ugly

It's not so much that they can't either just that it hasn't been written in yet... there are a lot of other things higher on the list and unfortnatly, time isn't something I've had as of late :(

I have read that a vobid demux does'nt create dummy audio files, but wont this cause problems when selecting audio track. For example i have kept the 1st and the 4th track but as theres no dummy tracks to replace the 2nd and 3rd the compile creates the 4th track i kept as track two. So in the menu when i select the 4th audio track i wont get any audio right ?? i would only get audio if i select the 1st and 2nd.

Trahald
15th July 2006, 04:07
yes..you cant have seemless connections in vobid demux. if you kill tracks then you have to adjust the ifo ( you can set stream 2 and 3 to 0 in that case and stream four to the value that was in stream 2) in ifo edit
i think i recall d3s7 saying when you do automatic mode with muxman, scenaid makes the adjustment for you. doing the adjustment in ifoedit yourself is simple tho.

Master Yoda
15th July 2006, 13:24
Okay thats not a problem. So whats the dummy audio in vobid demux for then ?? or will this cause problems ??

D3s7
18th July 2006, 18:54
it's for the rare situations that you can actually use it :)

it can be done but it takes knowing quite a bit about the IFO and layout before trying....

rare disks sometimes have audio on say 82 for one pgc or one cell but not the rest.. that's the time to use it as those are going to end up being none-seamless anyway
