View Full Version : Nero/Ateme HP AVC Encoder Beta : Call For Testers

Nero Recode H.264 encoder is on my machine(Athlon XP 3200+,1 GB RAM DDR400 CL 2.5) is too slow, about 5.5-7 fps.
When will Ateme improve speed of H.264 encoding?
It really depends on the configuration you're using. If you choose insane number of reference, extra quality and encoding 1080p material it can be really slow :)
I would suggest you to check the prefered settings people posted so far in other threads.

Ok now that we've most of testers in, we're about to really begin the beta. We'll start sending the terms on monday so please check your mailbox.
To proceed you're asked to approve them and provide your data so we can send by postal mail the information to access to beta material.
ps: the definitive list of testers will be posted shortly.

your pc seems wierd. I can run it at 4.5fps on my p3 1.13 ghz machine with 256MB ram.......
Ok,I explain in details.I use standard AVC profile,2 reference frames,3 B-frames,low psyhovisual, and chroma motion enabled for DVD video input with no noise at all.Maximum number is 7-8 fps in second. And yes, encoder quality is Extra,GOP size is 300,and that it.I always use 1-pass mode for encoding. It's insane, but movie(1h 30 min lengh) is encoded about 5-6 hours.
Please, who can me give some really good advice how to improve speed of Nero Digital encoding,I tired of waiting anymore.
What is GOP,and default value is 300.Did values higher than 300 will improve quality,or not.
Your question still does not belong to the topic of this thread: Beta tester recruitment.

You think it would be much faster ?
Or you simply wonna to test it ;)

Grrrr. Has to be an email problem. I am guessing Bobolo sent to the emails in our profiles which mine was out of date from last year. So I changed it and PM'd him. Hopefully Ill receive it tomorrow and reply to him. :)

Any word on whether or not there will be an x64 version of the beta?
Would be very interesting to test it!
By the way, what CPU is faster for new encoder? Intel or AMD?
I am rendering a video using Terragen - even the unregistered copy is already capable of up to 1280x960, this will be enough for HDTV-720p (1280x720).
I just wonder if it is easily possible to make this terrain, world, and script available so that other people may reliably reproduce the result and use it for own tests.
(Water ripples, the sun, and clouds are animated.)
Looks nice! If this thing is not too big to download and not too complicated to use, all testers could run encoder at the same settings on the same source to compare encoding time and fps on different CPUs.
pogo stick is very happy receiver and sender today :)
If, then I'd zip the small "world" and "script" file, and give you instructions on how to create the "terrain" file (it is reproducible). But I'm afraid the rendering time amount is horrible. Those with fast computers may be happy to just need few days, but on my Duron-800, I don't even get 100 frames per day, it will take around a week I'd guess.

6th June 2005, 18:31
i've the registered version of terragen, i can enable the "ultra" quality too :)
Just a side note, if you are interrested:
Mplayer (celtic-druid's Tbird build 2005-06-04) in general plays the two test files (Harry Potter 2, Batman Begins), but the chrominance is shifted vertically against the luminance (around 4 pixels, I'd guess). But I'm not totally sure if it may be related to using YV12 overlays (they are not very reliable on my GeForce2 GTS). ffdshow plays the videos well without shifts (but it looks a bit unstable, jerky) via haali's latest splitter in Media Player Classic, output via VMR9.

Sorry, I guess I'm just too eager ;)
I know I'm late compared to the initial plan since I didn't have much time lately. I'm trying to send the login & password postal mail to testers today and I hope we can really start by the begining of next week.
Fine for me - Terragen is still rendering...
__
For those who want to have the same animation for tests:
- run Terragen 0.9.19
- create a new terrain:
+- use "Ridged Multi Perlin" as algorithm
+- uncheck random coordinates, use (0, 0)
+- move the slider all the way right (biggest terrain structures)
- switch to "terrain units" instead of "meters"
- modify the terrain
+- set a height range of (-12, 12)
- save the terrain (e.g. as "HDTV.ter")
Load the attached "World" file HDTV.tgw (@ mods: please approve the attachment).
- run Scripter
- use some useful image and script filenames (e.g. C:\TEMP\HDTV | C:\TEMP\HDTV.tgs)
- Frame Number: (1, 400)
- {no "Camera Pos" animation}
- Sun heading: (-20, 60)
- Sun altitude: (20, -60) -- oops: must be in Australia... :o
- Exposure: (4.0, 1.5)
- Shadow Lightness: (5, 50)
- "Create it"
- "Notepad it"
- as second line, enter "CloudVel 2,135"; save
Execute script. Go on vacation over the weekend.

mail to testers today and I hope we can really start by the begining of next week.
according to the local post office normal mail to Germany can take a week or so, so i assume its probably the same from there to here. as such some of us may not get the mail until later next week.
Sharktooth
8th June 2005, 12:10
same here, about a week. but we have a sort of cheap high priority mail service so we can send mails that takes no longer than 24h (national) or 48h (EU) to arrive. It costs about 0.60€ for a normal letter.

To add something useful to my reply:
My Terragen world has been downloaded a few times. Is anyone seriously thinking about using the same settings I proposed? Did someone have problems understanding my little "guide"?
