OK, if anybody wants to compare, heres a full list of my hardware (http://www.zen86095.zen.co.uk/hardwareinfo.htm) and my software (http://www.zen86095.zen.co.uk/softwareinfo.htm) - maybe this will help find a common configuration!

I see that we have the same type motherboards but other than that i'm not sure what would be causing the preview editor to not work.

Whats at the link Somnus? I just get "Sorry. Access denied. You do not have access to this unlisted site."
I also can't see it being a motherboard thing, unless somebody wants to correct us!?
somnus
7th October 2005, 11:19
Hmm wierd about the access denied and it's my hardware stats. I'll check it when i get home zi must have clicked something extra. And as for the motherboard, I guess I should have been a little clearer, it wouldn't be a problem that was one of the only things i could see right off that our computers had in common besides some programs.

Could it be any kind of codec packs causing th problem, such as FFDShow which has changed AVI/MPG playback?
jdobbs
7th October 2005, 12:47
Not likely. If that were the cause you would think it would also affect playback in Windows Media Player.

OK, tried it on my work laptop with K-Lite Codec Pack (with FFDShow) and the viewer worked fine - another good idea blown out of the water!

Wow! Got it to work! Not sure how though....
1. uninstalled anything myself and somnus had (divx stuff, itunes, quicktime) - didn't work
2. Did a Win XP repair with sfc /scannow - didn't work
3. Installed some old Nvidia drivers (66.93) - didn't work
4. installed new AviSynth beta - didn't work
Then I'm not 100% sure, but it was something like:
5. Uninstalled more software - DIKO, SVCD2DVD 2.0, VLC Media Player - didn't work, but not sure if it helped (DIKO definitely uses AviSynth)
6. Checked and removed two virtual drives and related drivers made by Alcohol 120% (I noticed somnus had DAEMON Tools installed?) – not sure if this helped and also did a full reg clean with TuneUp Utilities 2006 just to make sure everything was clean
7. Uninstalled new AviSynth, checked all folders of uninstalled programs were deleted, uninstalled DVD-RB then did a full re-install and something round here made it work!
Good luck guys and let me know if any of this actually helped and especially what actually made it work!

Great you guy are on to something!
I know you probably hate the thought of it rendez2k, but maybe if you reinstalled and kept a list of what you were doing and made RB viewer Stop working again, you could nail down the exact problem causation.
Just a suggestion.

HOLY SHIT FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!
It works the segment viewer works I did the same as rendez2k and after reinstalling and clearing out the registry and in the end rebooting it finally works. I think though I'm not sure it was a conflict with SVCD2DVD because that was the last thing I uninstalled before it started working. I'm gonna run some tests against it and see if thats it in the morning. I'm not sure but I wonder if SVCD2DVD uses msyuv.dll causing the two to conflict.
rendez2k
8th October 2005, 10:13
Hmmm, I have put the newest SVCD2DVD back on (I had a beta before) and the viewer still works! Let me know somnus adter your tests if you manage to break it again!
somnus
8th October 2005, 11:14
Ok I'll be doing it this afternoon as I'm off to work again now but if it's not SVCD2DVD on mine that really confuses me as to what was causing it. At any rate I'll keep trying to figure it out.
Rockas
8th October 2005, 12:40
I also have DVD2SVCD installed and mine works.
As I said on a previous post... the only problem I had was related somehow to Daemon Tools... I think this problem has some relation with virtual drives...
Maybe we should call Ghost Busters :D

8th October 2005, 14:45
@Rockas
before I couldnt get the segment viewer to work with or without DAEMON tools so that wasnt my particular problem.
@jdobbs
No I didnt change anything with the naming BUT I have 3 drives and I put most of my progs on the drive that doesnt have Windows XP on it. This time around I went ahead and installed everything on my C: with windows. Could that be what caused it? If so it's never been a problem before and I dont know about anybody else.
jdobbs
8th October 2005, 15:09
No, probably not. I was wondering because I reviewed the code yesterday, and all I could see that might be out of the ordinary was the conversion of the path to short filenames (it is required by the MCI calls to winmm.dll). Oh, well...
Wheelie4
8th October 2005, 16:25
Well, I don't have DIKO, SVCD2DVD nor any Virtual drive, haven't since I formated. DVD-RB Pro and AVISynth is on my C: drive with WinXP but my working path (AVS files) are on my D: drive. Tried with C: path as working path but still no luck.

Same problem where. I have not installed any codec after the windows instalation, DIKO, SVCD2DVD nor any Virtual drive and my segment viewer doesnt display any video

I have not installed any codec after the windows instalation, DIKO, SVCD2DVD nor any Virtual drive and my segment viewer doesnt display any videoAs I said above, I will do something for you... but I have to say for the record -- something is not standard on your system... or it would work like it does for 99% + of the people who use it.

Ok. Thank you very much.
I have just one more request : Is it possible in a next version to add in the segment viewer an option not to encode one of the PGC ?
Sometimes i prefer not to encode the trailers and encode the movie (and they on the same VTS)
jdobbs
8th October 2005, 18:46
I'm not sure I know what you mean. Not to encode a PGC? I guess I don't get the connection to trailers, etc.
FilipeAmadeuO
8th October 2005, 18:55
For example, normaly the region 2 Warner dvd´s in the same VTS (for example VTS1) have the warner logo video, the movie and the trailer (diferent PGC - program chains).
My idea is on the segment viewer instead of doing an blanking of the trailer (for example) do a not encode
rendez2k
8th October 2005, 19:21
My only request (now the viewer works) would be some kind of fast forward/seek bar to see what the rest of the segment contains - that would be fab :D
jdobbs
8th October 2005, 20:58
I can do that in v1.10... I wasn't trying to give it a lot of features -- just a quick way to see what you're working with.

Today I uninstalled AviSynth then DVDRB1.00rc6Pro, rebooted, installed Registry Mechanic, rebooted, ran Reg Mechanic and repaired all errors (170), rebooted, reinstalled DVDRB1.00rc6Pro (during install the only thing I changed from default install options was to uncheck CCE/ProCoder Config), rebooted. Ran Prepare phase and still not able to preview. :(
I'm still trying to figure it out. ;)

8th October 2005, 22:03
Well I reinstalled SVCD2DVD and the preview still works so that wasnt my problem either. But I did overlook something I installed windows media format runtimes just before then it worked so maybe I was just missing something that was in that package.

Well, I got good news. I unistalled DVDRB1.00rc6Pro and installed DVDRB1.01Pro but still no preview. So I decided to uninstall programs that play video. I uninstalled all at once:
Mark's DVDTrayplayerPro 1.99a
Quicktime Alternative1.48
Real Alternative142
K-LiteCodecPack2.53 Full
Now the preview works. I plan to reinstall one at a time and test preview after each install but unfortunately due to my disability my uptime has ended and I must lay down (dizzy spells setting in). But I will begin doing so first thing after getting all setup at noon tomorrow. Sorry I can't do it now to let all know the results. But atleast there's been good progress and results established today for some of us.

Glad to hear things are working Wheelie4 - let us know how you get on! I wonder if Real Alternative has something to do with it? I think I also uninstalled that last night.
Wheelie4
9th October 2005, 00:43
Ok my curiosity egged me on. So here's my results in order of reinstallation.
Reinstalled Quicktime Alternative1.48: preview still works
Reinstalled Real Alternative1.42: preview still works
Reinstalled Mark's DVDTrayplayerPro 1.99a: preview still works
Reinstalled K-LiteCodecPack2.53 Full: preview stopped working
Uninstalled K-LiteCodecPack2.53 Full again: preview started working again.
K-lite codec pack has so much I'm not sure what part of it is my culprit. But I gotta go. Cya tomorrow.

Wheelie4,
Good to hear you got it working again. It seems that everyone that has had this problem is truly a unique situation, I have K-Lite on my computer and the preview is working for me still(of course I only use a couple of the codecs it has). I just did as rendez2k did and it started working after the windows media runtimes were reinstalled. Oh well at least it's working and I'm gonna try and see if I remove the runtimes if it stops or not.

I've had the same problem since the Segment Viewer option was incorporated in DVD-RB. No matter what I did I could never get it to work on my computer running Windows XP. I installed, re-installed, deleted, updated and reformatted my computer to no avail... I just gave up in the end.
Alas last week after a nice annual bonus from work I purchased and put together my 3rd PC. To my amazement, after the installation DVD-RB I was able to for the first time get Segment Viewer to work.
This might'n help fix any of your issues but I'm that excited that it finally worked... All be it with a new computer.

If there is anyone who is still experiencing this problem... could you try something for me? I put an experimental switch into v1.01 when it was released that would force the use of long filenames in the MCI routines. Could you see if adding the following line to the [Options] area of REBUILDER.INI makes any difference?
MCI_LONG_NAME=1
It probably won't make a difference... but it would be helpful to know that for sure.
Thanks.

Although something in k-liteCodecPack Full was my problem, I am able to install K-liteCodecPack Basic and still see the preview. So something in the list of components in the link below under the Full or Standard versions thats not in the Basic pack was causing my problem.

Yep, tried it. Nothing has worked for me to date & this goes back a long way. Hope someone hits on the universal cause & cure soon. I don't know what else to try. I'm not willing to go thru the hassle of format/reinstall just for trial & error.

It's really hard to say what is causing it, it's different for most people. The segment viewer didn't work for me from day 1 either, untill me and rendez2k compared our programs and uninstalled/reinstalled, I still dont know what caused it to not work, just know that what we did made it work. Did you try the codec link I posted above? I'm not sure if it'll help you but it's the last thing I did before it started working.

After the last post by Maruus I decided to try the .ini addition one more time. I discovered I had mistyped (left out the 2nd _ ) the text. I retyped it correctly, resaved the ini file & "BINGO", I now have segment preview.

Well, although I had got the viewer working, its stopped again now! I also tried adding MCI_LONG_NAME=1 but that hasn't helped, so I need to go back again now and see whats killed it again! I noticed something I installed the other day re-installed AVI Synth so I'm not sure if this is the issue....
Edit: Uninstalled K-Lite Full and the preview works so its definitely something in there!

You have to be very careful with some applications that use AVISYNTH. There is at least one I know of that redirects the AVISYNTH plug-ins folder to an area specific to just that product.
It's really hard to make other programs behave...
Make sure you add MCI_LONG_NAME=1 to the correct area of the INI. It should be in the "[Options]" section.
[Edit] Just noticed your edit... I wonder what it is changing?
rendez2k
18th November 2005, 13:18
Yup, it looks like MCI_LONG_NAME=1 may not cure all cases of the problem....

Of course I really shouldn't be expected to cure what other software breaks...
