avisynth first then rebuilder

But did you used the PRO Installer or you used AviSynth "official" one and Installed Rebuilder manually?
Carpo

i used avisynth from the avisynth site then installed dvd-rb pro with the installer - i was using xp but have gone back to win2k sp4
and have installed it the same way and it seems to be working now apart from an error shows up in the segmant window saying
Avisynth: caught an access violation at 0x043435eb attempting to read from 0x00000000
only thing i have done diff is not to install divx 6 and a few other progs - so could go back to xp if i wanted too just to make sure it is the progs i installed
EDIT - another thing i did was to change the drives back to basic drives and use a normal partition but cant see that being an issue as i could view the avs files in mplayer and could encode a film
well i just put xp back on installing avisynth first then using the dvdrb installer and it kicks out agin so i dont have a clue what it is

mind u im getting a little error now where dvd-rb closes after 5 secs of the segmant editor being open - so i cant select the extras i want - and this is on a clean system with 71.98 (think thats the version) of the nvidia drivers on as the newest ones feck up the picture :(just out of curiosity: have you tried without any nVidia drivers installed, just using windows default drivers?
Carpo

yip and it made no diff - so im sticking with win2k sp4 - it may error but least i can still use the segmant editor :)

I've had this same problem and I use XP I've formatted and and updated everything........In fact the first thing I put on my computer after formatting was RB Pro package and the segment viewer still doesnt work. So i've just come to the conclusion it's not going to

If yes then

@Rockas
The new Matrix editor is great and helps alot now that I can see what I'm blanking with RB in the segment viewer, which brings me to how you got the preview panel to work with the matrix editor, maybe the same thing can be done with RB (selecting player) would enable those of us that cant get it to work now......if it's possible. I've formatted my computer twice trying to get it to work and changed video drivers codecs, nothing seems to help. Oh well thanks again.

Just some notes:
1st When you select the player is has noyhing to do with the preview (that is done by Media Player)... the player you define only plays the encoded segments... you will launch it when you double click an encoded segment that appears on the list (middle bottom).
2nd The system that jdobbs is using is different... it has nothing to do with media player... who knows? maybe someone won't be able to put my preview to work :D ... I'm having some troubles with windows 2000, and probably the Rebuilder's preview works fine on that Operative System

Mpeg2 codec(Real shot in the dark)?
I don't think so... both systems (mine and jdobbs') rely on AviSynth... that means that the previews are "AVIs" to the system.

Would AviSynth be able to do it's own color decompression if no YV12 decompressor was installed on the system in question?
Rockas

That's a good question... I never tested it lol
But I guess so... not sure though :D
That would be a question to be asked on the Avisynth's forum.

I am having the very same problem. The .avs files will play in WMP but in DVD-RB Pro the segment viewer only shows a black screen.
I am running Windows XP Pro. I have tried everything posted here with the exception of removing my SCSI drivers and rebooting. Just how would I do that? :)

Are you using Daemon Tools? That was just a suggestion I gave 'cause i had a problem with Daemon Tools and that fixed it :)
I don't know how to explain that to you 'cause my OS is Portuguese so I don't know the name of the links on the English XP.

22nd July 2005, 00:25
Well, I use a program called FantomCD for my virtual drives, but in any case if I decrypt the disk in file mode I shouldnt have the SCSI related problem, right?
That way I can at least rule that out.
EDIT - Nevrmind. I already tried this. It doesnt make a difference once prepare is completed.

I dont know a thing about coding, but might it be possible to just implement an option that links to another media player, so you can preview each segment in a seperate window if you like?
In fact I would be alot happier having that because I could also preview different EQ settings and color/contrast levels etc.
Once again I must give respect to Jdobbs for making this amazingly versatile product. This is only one bug in the scheme of things. With every catch though there is a chance to learn, and to improve the software :)

@jdobbs
Shot in the dark, but during your compile stage what version of mplayer are you using as the previewer? There are 2 versions available, which ever one is being used by the app, the same must be installed on the users machine. Thats the main reason i don't use it in NuMenu and use DirectShow instead.
I know VB SP6 updated the mplayer. Perhaps these people have a previous version???, and so the api calls are therefore incorrect.
If the avs files play in the users mplayer manually, then it would seem likely that there is something different with the previewer.
Just a thought...

All the playback in the viewer/editor is being done through the mciSendString() function that is available through winmm.dll.

Well still cant get the segment viewer to work I've done everything I think there is to do even installed a new video card with updated drivers and it still wont let me use the segemnt viewer, havnt heard much about this problem anymore so I didnt know if everyone gave up or what. t any rate the program is great and I cant beat the quality it puts out, so I 'll just do without the extra feature.

Is there anyway you could add an option to use Media Player Classic to preview? The current.avs files works fine when dragged to MPC - so if you could somehow integrate the two?! It does look like some users need an alternative method still (and that’s me included!).
jdobbs

I'll see what I can do -- kinda risky, though, adding an additional DLL requirement just be for the final release.
somnus
30th September 2005, 03:45
That would be great if it can be done, I've done everything possible that I can think of to get it to work icluding installing a new video card, format installed all kinds of yuy2 codecs and nothing seems to work. I'm in no way complaining this is the best dvd backup prog there is and the quality of my backups look perfect for me. But it's just driving me crazy why I can get the preview editer to work. And I have seen that it does work though on my friends computer and we have almost the same progs and codecs.

jdobbs,
I just realized that before I formated my HD and the preview worked I had Microsoft .NET Framework installed. After formating I have not reinstalled Microsoft .NET Framework yet. Could this be why the preview has not worked since I formated?

I have .NET Framework 1.0 using XP and had to install .NET Framework 1.1 which was required for MS Encarta 2006 to work for the kids.
On another note and just a thought but patin-couffin older drivers sometimes cause problems with app.'s I have read.

Try searching the register (if you're familiar with it) and see if mciavi is referenced.
I can't figure out what is different on your systems...
I could add support through the media player dlls... but that has the potential to kick out new bugs -- so I'd rather not do that in v1.00. After v1.00 final is out and you test against it (I have one more thing to try), I'll create a "special purpose" version for you to download and test.

I'll check mine when I get home and see if it's different. Any test builds you may have I would certainly like to test and maybe figure it out why it wont work.
OK checked my files out and they look identical to everyone else's even in the registry

Deleted MCIAVI.DRV from the system folder and the mciavi.dll from the system32 folder. I thought I would see if I could make my RB Pro. viewer stop working.
Windows, however, reinstalled the drivers on rebooting.
I forgot about that little trick.

Just FYI. Besides the 4 mciavi* files found, I also have mciavi.drv in the system32\dllcache folder. The file version for mciavi32.dll is 5.1.2600.2180 (mod date 8/4/2004 1:56am). My registry search includes all of rendez2k's posted pics, plus HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002 and CurrentControlSet similar entries, which is important for currently allocated device drivers and system resources. This is from XP Pro SP2.

P4 3.2gb, Asus P4C800-E motherboard, 1.5gb ram, Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra running Win XP SP2 (home made PC!)
Could any of the other required components and DLLs have been altered in some way? Is there a complete list of what we need and versions? Could it be our graphics cards/drivers (do we all have Nvidia’s)? Beyond that, we'd have to start looking what software we all have/had had installed. Maybe something has taken away the video file association or similar? There must be some link! Doesn’t Nero output complete system lists?
