Congrats Amnon, new method gives me very close results, Q11 when Qcce gives Q12, Q7 when Qcce gives Q6, very close. Old method has its moments but sometimes it has unexplained jumps, it would go Q10 Q9 Q8 Q7 then jump to Q16 no idea, lastly Trap mode still get loopy in times, only last complain is the conflict with Sygate firewall, had some nasty blue screens and freezes, all in trap mode btw, anyhow hopefully with fine refinements it would be as good as Qcce predictions, keep on the good work Amnon!

THX my friend. Today I tried Trap-Prediction again. It starts to loop. Then I higher the Min. Bitrate and the Max. Bitrate and tried it again.

... it works.

I fixed the final. I forgot something for the Language-Option. Now all settings working fine. I'll look into the trapmode lets see if I can fix it finaly.

I'll soon start to code the AutoQ-Version for CCE 2.70. Stay tuned.

Great to see the 2.70 support so fast,

Looking at your log, you see what I mean Amnon, old mode gives a concurrent values of Q9, then hopes to Q4 as final, seen it allot in my tests, Q7..Q8..Q9.. final Q16 just seems a huge leap.
Anyhow will test it later tonight and see how it works directly with 2.70.

Amnon I get this error, with both settings of 2.70, plus AutoQ seems not to remember AR from session to session, and in some occasions also frame rate and field order were not saved.

Why have I now so different results? I only used a trailer of 3 Min for testing. So there are only a few frames to encode. The test is only to show that the modes working again. THX drob. I only tested Trap-Prediction in the last versions and forgot the other Modes... Sorry for that.

Ok latest test:
Qcce: Q12
New mode: Q12 in 5 runs +last sample
Old mode: Q7
Trap mode: loops and loops and loops and loops

All settings are saved right now, thanks for that!
New mode seems to loops sometimes it looped round Q11 and Q12 for few runs till I stopped it, a second run after deleting the sample and temp folder worked ok.

New mode is now accurate in 3 tests for me

Btw as of the conflict with Sygate firewall, if I open and close AutoQ without loading an avs, no problem, if I load the avs, and then run it, or just exit, then I get the error, any chance you can fix this?

When Autoq make several projects in the same sesion, seems that the sum of q-values is not set to zero before to start a new project.

Please consider the following algorithm:

Denote the predicted size for a Q-value by s(Q) and the goal size as g.

0. Set QMIN = 0 and QMAX = 100.

1. Let QNEW = (QMAX + QMIN)/2

Compute s(QNEW)

IF ( s(QNEW) <= g) then

QMAX = QNEW
s* = s(QNEW)

ELSE

QMIN = QNEW

ENDIF

IF ( (QMAX - QMIN) > 1 ) GOTO 1

2. RETURN QMAX as the predicted right Q-value and s* as the predicted size.

For this algorithm, I suggest to use the same sample for all the iterations in order to guarantee that s(Q) is a decreasing function of the Q-value.

I prefer to enter values in 1024 base.

Are You planning to add support for CCE SP 2.50?

Amnon I found a tiny thing, the start value for desired size, and the overhead should be returned to the 1024 values, that is 4479 and 117.

AutoQ loads always Your last run. If there are the values 4700 and 120 then it will load them. Click on 'Load Default Settings' and 4476 and 117 will come again.

I recompiled 1.2.1. I'm using now a newer version of vfw. Maybe it will fix the firewall problem. I also contacted esby, a france delphi-coder who gave me his code. Maybe he know something about this problem with the sygate firewall.

at the end of your avs-File ?

Works fine for me with an Athlon XP 3200+. And i will test AutoQ with CCE 2.50 and report in, if necessary.

AutoQ seems not to be able to find the executably, it also does not recognice that the executable ist CCE2.5

Nevertheless the file "CCE.set" contains the correct path to the CCE binary: D:\MPEG\CCE250\CCTSP.EXE

Autoq not yet works for CCE SP 250. Seems that Autoq is unable to open the CCE SP 250 executable.

The 250' ecl file generated by Autoq does not contain the lines "vmode=0" and "encode_mode=0", which are equivalent
to "video_type=2" in 267's ecl files.

Note that CCE 250 supports chapters (The syntaxis in the ecl file is the same as in CCE SP 267).

Sometimes the values of "top_first", "offset_line" and "progressive" in the ecl file are bad as follows:
top_first=uffchecked
offset_line=uffchecked
progressive=PFFCHECKED

Amnon I wrote you a whole form but your PM is full and I lost it all so to make it short,

Tested RC4 few bugs:

Started Q 5 goes down to 3 then 2 and loops at 2 until I abort.

All functions seems to work ok went by the test file.

BT came back after abort, even that it was disabled, restarting solved it.

Starting value seems to be 2%, touching the slider goes to 4 but after restart 2% again.

Changing from dvd to svcd while on 23.976 gives an error not a legal integer.

I think task priority is unnecessary, AutoQ uses zero cpu power as it is so why bother, its cce who uses all the power, just give it a normal task priority.

BT seems to "flicker"

Hmm I must search the net for the right Batch-code for CCE 2.50.

This Code works only for CCE 2.70 and not for CCE 2.50:

The gui looks a little bit differnt. CCEPath got his own form.
Also I added 'unknown CCE Version' so some of You guys can tweak the
ECL a little bit to get the CCE Version running.

Till now I didn't find a way starting CCE2.50 with AutoQ. So I deaktivate the 2.50 support in this version.

I fixed all bug drob has posted me from the last version.
I tested RC5 and I didn't found a bug.
Please test the RC5. I hope I can rename it to 1.3.0 Final.

Also I uploaded the source. So now can everybody look into the AutoQ.
If somebody has a code for AutoQ please post me a PM.
I hope so some other delphi-coder can help me to get AutoQ better.

AutoQ 1.30RC5 now works with CCE SP 2.5 by using eclcce.exe as path to an unknown CCE version and selecting the CCE 2.5 radiobutton.

Nevertheless there is a small bug in the CCE setup window:

When I select eclcce.exe as mentioned above and press "save", it works the first time the CCE selection window shows up. But when I use setup / CCE again from the menu and press save without altering anything, a small window pops up und tells me to select a CCE version first. Only resetting the CCE settings and entering them again makes the save button work again.

Also, when I quit AutoQ und start it again, the path to eclcce.exe ( and the selected language ) are lost, looks like the path and the language selection is not stored correctly. It seems that AutoQ does not accept the path given to "unknown CCE version" as a valid selection of the CCE version used.


I would also like to suggest an additional option when selecting the CCE version:

Could you please add a second radio button e.g. named "CCE 2.5 quick" ? This radio button should use an ECL-file with "fastmode=1" instead "fastmode=0". This option will activate the "quick compression" of CCE 2.5, which is about 10% faster by only loosing 2%-3% of encoding quality.

No I didn’t, from my experience Qcce is extremely close in its results within few dozen MB margin, so I didn’t run a full encode, I did however ran few full encodes earlier in the thread, look for it and see how close Qcce came.

The CPU Priority You set for AutoQ is then the same for CCE.
AutoQ starts CCE and define the priority for CCE. So when AutoQ has Low. CCE gets also Low.

For the balloon-tips. Yes I removed them temporally. With Balloontips on the GUI starts to flicker and creasy things happen. So I decided to freeze them for a while, till I found a solution. I think the buildin help will do it also.

@All: Build 13015 is out. Now it is also Italian. I hope some other user will translate AutoQ.

Next plan is AutoCQ for HC. HC is a brandnew MPEG2 encoder.
AutoQ is now SO CLOSE to QCCE that I think I found the prediction.
The differnce to QCCE is, that AutoQ uses differnt Frames, QCCE always the same (I think so...).

That’s what I thought at first, but I saw it didn’t change for me, whatever priority I choose in AutoQ, it is super past by the option I choose in eclcce option, inside cce. Didn’t test with 2.70 yet.

The priority isn’t saved from one start and exit to another.

Minor bug, or not a bug maybe you planed it that way, if you click abort in the middle of a test run, the abort window comes up, but cce continues encoding until it finishes that segment.

If there is tiny deference with Qcce still, and the only change you made it to change the frame size, then why not make it identical frames like Qcce and see if you get exact results?

Abort-Run-Function: If You click on Abort it kills CCE and go back to the main-window. It didn't work with CCE 2.50. Here it kills only EclCCE. CCE works till it ends the encode. If You use CCE 2.66+ Trial it ends also CCE.

Why I use differnt frames? Cos if You encode always the same frames You get maybe oversized. Example: We have a dark movie with 20 Min in the end a hugh actionsequence. If You use the same frames You may get only 50% of this scene. If You use different frames You get the other 50% of this scene also. So the %-Value in AutoQ is exactly the %-Value of the movie. You get 100% the %-Value of the Actionsequence.

You can see this in the log. The encode before the Final sample encode has the same Q-Value but with a different frameoffset.

In the first encode we have a frameoffset of 24 FPS.
In the second we encode with frameoffset of 00 FPS.

1st encode gives me 52 MB. 2nd gives me 55,57 MB.
In the first encode the precalculated finalsize is 2600 MB.
The 2nd encode gives me a precalculated finalsize of 2778 MB.
I wanted a finalsize of 2650 MB.
The calculated finalsize will be 2689 MB. So I will be a little oversized by 39 MB. (2600+2778)/2=2689
The final encoded finalsize is 2643 MB. I wanted 2650 MB and got 2643 MB what is realy close.

I hope You know now why I decided this way ...

I have the following comments in order to improve AutoQ:

Since the "encoding final sample" can be avoided I suggest to add an user's option to control this.

The range of admisible Q-values according to the CCE SP User's Guides is 1-300. In the current version the automatic selection of Max Q-value can be bad. Assume for example that the user sets 2 as the initial Q value. Then Autoq automatically set Max Q to 6. If the (unknown) right Q is 20, then Autoq can not converge to the right value. Hence, in order to guaranty convergence of the algorithm to the correct Q value I consider convinient to set the defaul of Max Q value to 300 (and of course the default for Min Q should be 1).

For CCE unknown versions, Autoq should permit more control to the user since it is necessary to set in the ecl file the "One Pass VBR" video type. For example, in order to use CCE SP 267 Retail seems necessary to set "video_type=4", instead of "video_type=2" (which is correct for CCE SP 2.67 trial).

Now I'm curies so ill run the full encode and see if AutoQ gets it closer then Qcce.

When I click abort, I get the aborted popup, and the window returns to AutoQ, eclcce is killed, but cce keeps running until the end of that segment. Using eclcce 1.81 and cce 2.67.0.27.

Tested also with 2.70, abort is perfect, kills' cce immediately.

AutoQ doesn’t seem to impact the priority for me not on 2.67 or 2.70, no matter if I set to high or idle, in 2.70 its normal, and in 2.67 its whatever I had set eclcce to be. The priority is not parsed beyond the cce default priority, and is not save between runs.

One last tiny bug, AutoQ won't save window position after restart.

At least I found a small bug ( or is at a feature ? ;-) :

It is possible to start a prediction run before selecting a name and path for the output files ( m2v + vaf ). The result will be stored in ../AutoQ/temp using the filenames "Speichere M2V nach ..." and "Speichere VAF nach ..."

There is a brandnew MPEG2Encoder Out Guys! I'm the first Coder how wrote a prediction-tool for it. The Encoder is called HC.

With my eyes ... I think HC gives me better quality than CCE ;)

Amono, test build 18, on a pal movie, all results were nice and close to Qcce. only one problem, which was there in the past, AutoQ wont go up to Q1, even when it had the space, when i started with Q1 i got Q1 as a result, started with Q3, AutoQ stops at Q2,see this log:
