What kind of prediction does it use? If I may suggest, please consider using the same method as Tylo's D2SRoBa uses. It's much faster than the simple method QCCE uses and much more accurate as well. I'm quite sure the method has been discussed in the DVD2SVCD forums.

Thanks for your work Amnon.
Their seems to be a contradictions between QCCE and AutoQ, I seem to get higher Q values of 2-3 as predictions in AutoQ, for instance QCCE gives me 1 and AutoQ 3, or QCCE 3 and AutoQ 6, since QCCE has been on the spot for as long as I have been using it. I suspect the deferences come from AutoQ. Secondly overhead should be added to the size prediction calculation, using videohelp.com bitrate calculator, and QCCE I always added the 25 mb ISO overhead, and a 92mb authoring overhead, now that AutoQ uses a calculation process for the prediction value (audio, extras and so on), these 25+92mb overhead should be taken into account. For now I added the 117mb in the Extra box. I would really like to have some progress window, to show the calculation being made like in QCCE, and call the final Q prediction. And lastly maybe a bug, it seems if you have a value of 1 in the Q box, it won't change after running the prediction process, and if you run some prediction process one after the other changing the initial Q value, the results change each time, once I got 3 then 4 then 6.

Thanks for your useful program.
Please correct the following bug: In the 'height' line of the ECL files, the sign "=' is missing.
In order to obtain compatibility with CCE SP 2.50, please consider to make the following changes in the
ECL files generated by AutoQ
1) Just replace the:
; CCE SP Trial Version -- Encoder Control List
with:
; Cinema Craft Encoder SP -- Encoder Control List
at the first line in the ECL files.
2) Add the following two lines to the [item] section of the ECL files:
vmode=0
encode_mode=0
Notice that for CCE SP 2.50 'vmode=0' selects one pass VBR, and 'encode_mode=0' elementary stream.
I have experimented by adding these lines to an ecl of CCE 2.67 and there was no problem when open in both CCE 2.50 and CCE 2.67.

Greta work Amnon AutoQ is fastly coming along.
Few things, AutoQ keeps running the number of specified runs, even if it got the right Q, it would just keep going throw the cycles until it's done.
I get an application error, memory could not be read, on exiting the program.
Values from the last run aren’t kept, I am guessing this has to do with crashing on exit, if not can a setting for saved default settings be added like in Qcce?
If you run two consecutive runs of AutoQ without restarting the program, the Q values goes nuts.
The working status window disappears if you click AutoQ window while it's running, since it has no task bar presence, it's difficult to find it back. Same goes to the CCE encoding window.
Can you change the default matrice to the default CCE matrice?
Again thanks for putting all this effort.
EDIT:
I had just finished a full encode using AutoQ and as I mentioned before, AutoQ seems to be missing by 2 Q marks, while Qcce is on the spot, I get Q4 from AutoQ and a file round 600mb too large, and from Qcce I get Q6 and the right size. Also using Qcce for a prediction of Q4 I get a very close size to what I got a a final result from AutoQ.

@Drob: I think all error should be fixed in Version 0.8.
I encoded 5 DVDs with my program. I got always the size I wanted.
I check now Version 0.8 for bugs.
@needle: Support for CCE 2.50 will be added soon. Look for Version 0.9.
Post me a ECL of Yours. I'll add then CCE 2.50. THX for the bugreport.

Amnon, under version 0.8 settings are saved correctly chears for that! However all the other problems are still there: the final Q results are still off by two points (Q4 by AutoQ and correctly sized Q6 via Qcce). I still get a crash when exiting the program after calculation, not however if you just open and shut without doing any action.

I'd still like to suggest that you check Tylo's method for predicting the Q value. It's very accurate, I have to say that AutoQ hasn't been that for me in my tests:(

Doesn't that apply only when the Q curve is linear, which it is not, especially when the value gets really low.

Your ecl file for CCE SP 2.50 seems OK. I have loaded it in CCE SP 2.50 without problems.
Is true that 2.5 don't directly support custom matrices. However the matrices can be patched into the program using 'CCE_patcher' by tsunami. After encoding, the mpeg-stream should be corrected using 'reestream'. See for example:

AutoQ got the final Q in Run#2. But I run 8 passes and 1% of the movie to show You the sizes of the other samples. I used 1% of the movie. In the next Test I used 4%:

So the Result: I'm always under the wanted sample size. With 8 passes I got Q4 with 1%. Also with 4% and 8 Passes I got Q4. With 3 Passes and 3% of the movie I got Q6. Why can some of You guys get higher?

I am running XP sp2 fully updated. I just downloaded and tested versions 0.1a, 0.5, 0.6 the crash on exit is present in all of them.
As for the accuracy, I have been testing it for the last four hours, and it seems that if, within the specified runs, the prediction process won't get to the right Q value, it would give the wrong Q prediction.
Here are 4 examples; the desired Q calculated by Qcce is Q6.
In the first log, I started with Q2 and 4 runs, not enough runs to get to the desired value of Q6 and AutoQ misses. In the second example
I started with Q4 again with four runs, AutoQ got to the accurate Q6. Third test again starting Q of 2 but this time 10 runs, in this case AutoQ gets to the right value of Q6.
Last test, just for good measure, starting value of Q30 and 10 runs, AutoQ gets it close (only 1% used), last test, no log atached here same Q30 only 4 runs AuroQ misses.
Tests were run on 0.81
EDIT: Amnon I believe your last run, posted above, the 3% 4 runs, exactly makes that point, there went enough runs to get to what seems to be the right Q value of 4.

Amnon I am running XP sp2 fully updated. When you say error what do you mean? the prediction error? If so it still has the same problem, if I run 4 runs and its coming short of the desired correct Q prediction (of 6-7) it would come with a wrong prediction (4), however if I let it have 8 runs, it would get the right Q value. And the error on exit is still there.

The memory could not be "read".
is a common problem, that alot of people experience, having installed NetLimiter.
Solution : Uninstall Netlimiter

I don't have this installed:
NetMeeting, a Win2000 program, causes Delphi to

Amnon you are one sweet guy, thanks for the credit!
I tried the new method and it seems to get to the right Q but it keeps looping for me, keeps running the Q+1 Q-1 tests until I aborted it, I think the math should be that once Q+1 is under the desired file size it should stop and call that Q value as final.
As for the error, I managed to narrow it significantly down, thanks for your search but I do not have net limiter installed or use humanges extensions, BUT I tried a clean install of XP sp2 and started playing around.
It seems that AutoQ conflicts with Sygate Personal Firewall PRO 5.5 when I unload the Sygate firewall, AutoQ exits without a problem, when I load Sygate and exits AutoQ I get the error.
Hope this helps you narrow things down, I will test the new compile as soon as it's online.
EDIT: new compile same problem, Sygate loaded, error on exit, if I close Sygate no error on exit.

I'm working hard on the new predictionmode. I changed many thinks. In 0.8.3 the new predictionmode shouldn't loop. I'm trying to get the same size with the wanted samplesize now. 0.8.4 will be released today. Look for it ;)

SameQ-Loop stops after the first run (in the last versions after the 3rd run).

I also developed a little utility for finding Q value
I can suggest to read the great Ds2Roba source code by Tylo (my kudos to you Tylo).
I do a more simple search
1) start with Q=40, encode
2) get size for q=40
3) if q40 > target size, double q to 80 (ang go on...)
4) if q40 < target size, half q to 20
5) repeat 4) till q > target size (save MAX,MIN Q)
6) now we have a MAX (for this Q size > target) , and MIN (for this Q size < target)
7) try encode with Qn=INT((MAX+MIN)/2)
8) if Qn size < target size, set MIN=Qn
9) if Qn size > target size, set MAX=Qn
10) if MIN-MAX <= 1 set Qn=MIN , goto encode
11) goto 4 till Qn size is near target size :)
in 4/6 iterations i got a good Q

Amnon I had just finished testing build 0.84, it gets the right results every time, I also tried running some tests at 1% still works right.
There is a minor issue I found, which was also there is Qcce.
The prediction tends to give a value that is slightly OVER the sample size. In the example below I once started with a Q of 5 and once with a Q of 20. Both cases I got final Q6, same as Qcce.
Actual predicted size of Q6 is: 175/4x100=4375 (Qcce prediction 4101mb), on the other hand Q7 would have given a better result I believe: Q7 predicted size 159/4x100=3975 (Qcce prediction 3804mb).
Getting a final encode around 240mb under the encode limit is always better then getting one 50mb over the final encode limit, it seems the prediction is looking for the closest value, ignoring the fact it is over the sample size. HOWEVER, since Q is just a prediction, it is a gamble, the final encode may be ok or off by few dozen mb, my thinking is to go the safe way, have the prediction find the closest Q then go +1 if it is over the sample size, this is up to you.
One last remark, I think the final predicted encode size should be displayed as well, similar to Qcce (4000mb for instance) it would be helpful to visualize the deferences, and decide if you want to go one Q higher.

That approach is already used by QCCE. It's slower than Tylo's which uses a Newtonian method instead of a simple binary search.

I You use the old prediction-mode You can use 1% of the movie. The result of Run#1 and Run#3 is the same: Q 4.
If You want the new predicition-mode instead, You must use min 2% of the movie or more. Only the Run#4 has the same result like Run#1 and Run#3.

What I think is that not only the final predicted encode size should be displayed, but also the calculated one, by the current calculated Q, just like Qcce displayed added by the distance to the predicted calculated final encode, sample log (numbers has no meaning):

0.85a old prediction is still broken for me, gave me Q4 instead of Q6-Q7, new prediction is ok, see logs. I am unable to choose 1% for old mode seems 2% is the minimum for both.

Sorry Amnon old mod still broken for me, and not allowing less then 2%.
The logs you posted seems off to me, in the first one new mode safe off the final Q is 3 and the encoded file is 75.5, in the second log new mode safe on the final Q is 4 BUT the encoded file is again 75.5, how can this be is should be a smaller file?
The log of the old mode shows again a mistake of 2 Q points.
The new display of the predicted final Q size is great.
Here is another idea, at the beginning of the log display this:
Entered wanted size: 4479mb (whatever value the user entered)
Entered Audio size: 300mb (whatever value the user entered)
Entered Extras size: 0 mb (whatever value the user entered)
Authoring and ISO overhead: 117mb
Your desired final encoded file: 4062mb (the results of 4479-300-117-0)
This way the user knows what his desired final m2v size is and knows how to judge the Q results in the log.
I start with Q5 just to shorten the process since I know the desired Q is 6-7. By experience I can usually guess close to the right Q, and used Qcce to give me an accurate result.
To make sense of all the 3 methods I am now actually encoding this film I created and was testing on, I actually took a film and doubled it so it's close to 3 hours, just to stress the prediction, in an hour we will see which method is right Qcce, old or new.

There are different methodes out. My method works so:
I take X% of the movie and jump with Z1 Sec-Frameoffset through the frames. In the next encode I jump with Z2 Sec-Frameoffset through the frames. So I've different frames to encode. I think so I get the right Q-Value better. ... this can maybe take longer than other prediction methodes.
Z1 is always 00 Sec.
Z2 is always this:
Round(((Framecount/Framerate)/60)/(Round((Framecount/100)/(GOP*2))*%of Movie)*60)/2
Example:
Round(((139525/25)/60)/(Round((139525/100)/(15*2))*2)*60)/2=30
Now Step by Step:

Ok after fully encoding the test movie here are the results:
Movie was encoded in Q6, all tests started with Q6 and done with 2%.
Full encode actual size: 4090MB
Mathematically desired size (4479 - 300 audio- 117 overhead) = 4062MB
Qcce prediction (test range 5-7): 4070MB Q6
AutoQ old prediction: Q3 4306.5MB (I ran the test twice).
AutoQ new prediction: Q7 3987MB (test ran twice)
Just to validate AutoQ prediction of what Q7 would be, I used Qcce to predict what Q7 would be, and then did a full encode under Q7 (I am methodical what can I say lol)
Ok so:
AutoQ Q7 was: 3987MB
Qcce Q7 was: 3775MB
Actual encoded file size: 3782
So as you can see Qcce predictions are much closer both finding the right Q value, and in the actual prediction of that Q value results.

The third prediction-mode I call now AutoQ-Prediction, cos it is not exactly the same like in QCCE. Till now it loops, but I'll fix this.
I've no problem with 117 MB as Overhead-Value. I think I change all the values to /1024 cos the encoded samplesize is in bytes and will be /1024 and not /1000 like the values You entered into the edits. Maybe this is the unprecise thing in the whole calculation.

Well Qcce uses binary base 1kb=1024bytes, so did I in all the numbers I had given in the previous test regarding the Q precision and comparison.
This actually makes more sense, since user input comes from windows, which uses binary base 1024 bytes display, so in actually unless users read the numbers wrong (take only 3 first digits of KB display and use that as input numbers, thinking its decimal based) all sizes entered in the boxes should be in the right binary base.
If I understand you right until now you took the numbers from the boxes and used them as decimal 1000 base? Then yes that’s where the problem could have come from.
The authoring overhead is just what I have been reading from videohelp.com, if you know otherwise by all means use your numbers.
New method looks much more elegant now, and seems to get thee faster, hope you get over the bugs easily.

Decide Yourself which prediction mode is for You the best ...
@all: Please test this version. Also abort Your encodes to test if there is any loop left. Normaly if You click on 'Abort' AutoQ should stop. If it is so, then it is all ok, else post me the way how to reproduce the loop. I hope I don't have forgot a bug. If You find one please post also. ... I want to get final ;)

Amnon I am sorry none of the system works right for me.
Old gives Q3 and the size of 4306
New gives Q7 and the size of 3987 while we know according to my privies test that Q7 is:
AutoQ Q7 was: 3987MB
Qcce Q7 was: 3775MB
Actual encoded file size: 3782
And trap mode keeps looping until aborted, but gives Q6 and size of 4300 which we know according to last test is wrong since:
Full encode actual size: 4090MB
Qcce prediction (test range 5-7): 4070MB Q6
Logs attached, I don’t get why the old mode gives Q6 all the way then has a jump to Q3
I really think what needs to be done is take the good old working Qcce mathematical system, implement it into your great GUI design and work from there.
All tests were run: default CCe standard matrice.

Just to make sure I used two more films, a second 23.976 source, and a Pal source, and to make absolutely sure, I encoded them fully.
NTSC 23.976:

The prediction should also be tested with Q's higher than 10 or so, even in the 30-40 region. It's a known fact that the curve is very steep in the low region. If you put two 2-hour movies on one disc, Q is usually somewhere around 20 for any regular anamorphic movie without intense action or lots of talking heads.

I fixed the Trap-Prediction-Mode. Now it doesn't loop anymore.
Download 0.8.6a.
I always start with Q-Value 20 and using 2% or more % of the movie.
I'm using my matrix (Thats the standard-matrix in AutoQ).
All my Projects are PAL DVDs. I never oversized during the encoding. Normaly I undersize.
If somebody has THE prediction methode please post a example. If it is a bat-file post also this.
I did 4 fullencodes with AutoQ. 1 fits 100%, the other where undersized, but all prediction-modes gave me the same value (as You can see on the logs I've posted).
... by the way, I'm using CCE 2.67.00.23. In the next days I'll add CCE 2.50.
