It is much safer to just "cut from" first frame. You will still have a picture, all buttons will be awailable to navigate from the menu and it will take less space.
Eg.
If I have a Main menu screen that has say "Play movie, Audio Setup, Extras and Trailers"
I may want to delete all "Extras" so therefore can I not hide the "Extras" button then find all the subsequent "Extras" menus/movie cells and hide all the blocks that correspond to that button. I.e. Deleted scenes, alternate ends menus and movie Cells etc?
If so its a pain because in the past I have removed movie VTS cells/sets in IC8 but wanted to be able to remove the menus that relate to these cells. When I used IC8 to remove movie cells they always have played correctly but you could navigate through a number of menus screens maybe even up to five sometimes then finally get to your destination hit select on a menu button then nothing happened like freeze or crash it just looped back on itself.
I wanted to be able to remove these menu screens leading onto one another not just hide the buttons leading to them.
The few I have created so far in DVDRM with menu screens with buttons on that I have hidden blocks, have all played so far. Am I just lucky? :D
Thanks again Dimad.
Ps Do you know if anyone is/are going to do a guide to using DVDRM so that people will know what it can do and what not to do?

Of course it is ok to hide blocks (actually even delete them completely) if you can ensure that they will never get played.
It is safe to hide menu transitions - menus without buttons, but mikegun has hidden menu with buttons which was playing - that is not safe.

Do you know if anyone is/are going to do a guide to using DVDRM so that people will know what it can do and what not to do?
VidHack has offered his help on this but it looks like he is very busy at the moment. Do you want to do it? :)
Problem with guides is that I write normal text much slower then code :) and in the time frame it would take me to do a guide I can add some nice features to DvdReMake.
I'll finish "replace block" and "support for interleaved cells which are not part of an angle block" this week and will try to write some "quick start" quide this weekend (although personaly I would prefer to finish off "edit PGC commands").

DvdReMake 1.1 is out. Big thanks to everybody who provided comments, suggestions and bug reports.
It is confirmed that VidHack is busy and will not be able to work on guide for some time :(, but :) another user was kind enough to offer some help with this. I'll also try to put some words together.

To all you DVD hackers who have laboured with IFoedit trying to figure out and change the navigation layout of a complicated DVD....
Take a look at DvdReMake. It has an easy to use interface to find and change menu navigation options. In addition to all the MenuEdit capabilities, it gives a great "top down" view of the DVD 's navigation layout.
It also has video trimming options.
Check it out, I think you'll be impressed....

Dimad,
Something for your next release:
I like the replace block function very much. Is it possible to have a "add block" and be able to load a VOB file of our choosing? This would be helpful if you want to split a movie. Then you can add a "insert disk 2" VOB at the end of the first disk.
Dimad
16th March 2004, 21:24
"add" block will be added later when it will be possible to use it, i.e. add program chains, programs and cells tot them.
Then you can add a "insert disk 2" VOB at the end of the first disk.
Well, you can do it now. Just replace blocks with "insert disk 2" instead of hiding them (replacing them with blank).

??? Either me or you missing something :)
DvdReMake 1.0 was released on March 02. Later today I'll release 1.2 (there is one rare but ungly bug in 1.1).
Command editing is not finalized yet, but 1.2 has some code that will check command editing code and asks users to submit a bug report if problem is found. :) If there will be no reports (or when all reported issues are fixed) I'll release command editing.
So I guess you can change name of the thread :)

Don't know what the 'Ugly bug' in 1.1 is, so far I've not had a single problem to report and I've been using and abusing the heck out of this release. Very easy upgrade from MEdit and worth every dime.
Thanks

Not sure if it is the same thing... But I have seen this same symptom on discs prior to editing. I get this on several Buffy discs in the audio menu. Buttons are active. But Hover disappears. This also is the case with Veronica Guerin also on the audio menu.
However, the problem goes away on stand alones. It only appears when viewing on my PC. Typically I view with IFOEdit. So I have given up worrying about it as final discs play fine on stand alone.

Trying to understand the functionality... What is a block? Does block = chapter?
If I have a movie to split... I can use DVDReMake to blank the unwanted chapters for both disc one and two... Let's assume I have 10 chapters total and I want to put 5 chapters on each disc.
On disc 1 I would put replace chapter 6 with "Insert Disc 2 clip" and blank chapters 7 through 10. (Can I control the length of time the replaced chapter 6 displays my "Insert Disc 2" clip?)
On disc 2 I would just blank chapters 1 through 5...
Is this proper thinking...? And how would I go about making disc 2 start on chapter six instead of the main menu?
Does DVDReMake now or will it give me that kind of command control?
Thanks again... Jeff

Block, most of the time, is the same as a cell, a smallest thing that can be referenced in the PGC. For multiangle disks - block contains all related cells (different angles).

Well, chapter could contain one or more programs, which in turn may have one or more cells.
It is necessary to set cell still time to some non zero value. If set to 255 it will stay forever. It will be possible soon to do it with DvdReMake.
On disc 2 I would just blank chapters 1 through 5...

Well it depends on how disk is authored. Quite often before movie is started some registers get set. I'm not sure if its possible to make a "general instructions" to achieve what you ask with any disk. May by 2COOL can do it :)

Thanks for all the answers... I get it...
As to the Disc 2 of a split... Making the movie start on the movie is a simple First Run selection in IFOEdit... I was just wondering if you could adjust this setting with DVDReMake as well...
I think your program is going to be very cool and just hoped that it might eliminate IFOEdit all together for some very common things like disc splitting.
I am just not sure how much control of commands DVDReMake is going to allow.

With Ifoedit you can start with the movie as well as start with the first actual chapter on the disc. In otherwords if disc two starts with chapter 10, when you insert the disc the dvd player will cycle through the first nine chapters until it hits chapter 10. You can skip that process by changing the entry point on cell one. I picked this concept up from one of 2Cool's sheets.

I understand all of that... My point was to eliminate multiple programs and work with one interface... If DVDReMake can make these adjustments then it is a simpler, faster interface for doing things instead of the old manual way of IFOEdit... Love IFOEdit but it is long overdue for a modern GUI... Such is the reason for my hopes for DVDReMake...
But hell the way things are going with DVDeXCopy on the legal front I am sure Derrow and IFOEdit will be making a comeback... LOL

Does this make sense ? Or am I missing something ?
Use AddChapter to add chapter to end of movie...
Then use DVDReMake to replace block and turn added chapter into "Insert Disc 2" clip...
If this is correct this saves a TON of time...
Is the viewable still time adjustable...?
Is it normal that Demo v1.3 takes a looong time to Import DVD from HD ? 6+ minutes ?
Update: This turns out to be a problem caused by another program or ME, yet to be decided. Testing many other DVDs proved DVDReMake to take only seconds to import a DVD !
Is HEX editing available? I guess I learned kinda backwards... I know the HEX value for things I do in IfoEdit but I am lost in the command window of DVDReMake.
Thanks as always in helping me come up to speed !

I doubt it has anything to do with the version. Just take a look at DvdReMake.log - most probably there were some inconsistency between ifo and vob files and DvdReMake had to parse vob files - this might take some time.

HEX editing is not available. I've already started a user guide (http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremake/ug_intro.php) and there will be some explanation for this dialog.

Dimad this is only a wish list kinda thing. But what if DVDReMake could batch run your projects. It take a few seconds to set up a new project. I could set up my projects for a whole season of CSI and then click batch run and come back in an hour to have all 6 DVDs ready for compression and burn...
Another very popular scenerio: I want to make a 2 disc set with NO Compression... With DVDReMake and Batch Mode I could add the "Insert disc two" clip to the end of disk one... remove items from bonus features from disc one... adding "Bonus Features on Disc Two" clip... Disc two could be second half of movie and/or just all the bonus features... menus have been updated accordingly... Now I would have two projects for a perfect two disc set. I just Click BATCH RUN and come back in 30 minutes to BURN my discs...
Very Very Cool idea...? Whatcha think...? When dual layer burners obsolete DVDShrink and all the others it's only gonna be YOU BABE...!

I've already thought about building a batch processor into DvdReMake. It should not be dificult. Or rather it will be as difficult as a scripting language which will be used to describe what you want to do.
Thinking about this for some time I decided that it is not clear (at least to me) what commands/operations should this mode support.
The first step would be to decide on the list of commands and the format of the batch file.

I am not sure I understand what the command variable would be... My vision of the process is that after creating several PROJECTS a user presses a button for BATCH which would in response simply export each project... All that needs place is for the projects to be in a queue and for the batch program to grab them one after another and perform the EXPORT DVD function. You might also have a simple check box on the Export DVD command that says "Export to Queue". This way user decides whether it is an immediate export or stored in queue. This selection could trigger an outmatic saving of a project file in a descrete location for each project that you control to manage the Batch process.
The only thing I see challenging is that you might have to take control of the location and naming convention of the project files to manage the process. Otherwise isn't as simple as:
1) - Open Project
2) - Export DVD
3) - Close Project
4) - Open Next Project.............
Am I missing something obvious. I do claim to have metal lapses from time to time...

I see now. I was thinking more about doing dvd editing using script(batch) files.
What you want can be done. There are at least two ways to implement it into DVdReMake:
1) implement support for multiple projects user can have opened in DvdReMake and have "export all" command;
2) through the scripts. In this case we already have two candidates for script command :) :
- open project;
- export project;
I wanted to do MDI (multiple documents) anyway - so I guess 1) will happen soner.

Sounds great Dimad
Just picked up CSI Season 3 & Homicide Season 4 TODAY ! Sure wish Batch Export was here now...!:D Guess I'll have to struggle through on this set...
I just did Little House Season Three and MASH Season One with your sustiture feature... saves on average Quarter to Half a GIG in disk space by using same intro and credits for each episode...
Thanks for that great feature Dimad...!
Dimad: New Question - Is it possible to substitute across VTSs ? Some multi episode DVDs put episodes in different VTS. The new CSI as an example has episodes 1 & 2 in VTS-2 with episodes 3 & 4 in VTS-3. I'd like to point all four (4) episodes to the same end credits.
New Question Two - Is it possible to UNDO a HIDE, REPLACE or SUB? I haven't found it and after making a mistake I am shutting off the program and starting OVER.
New Question Three - Is is possible to MOVE post commands to pre commands?

Looks like you are using quite a few features of DvdReMake. A was wondering if you can describe in a breef guide what you do to these "season" disks. I'll be glad to help with the images (if needed), just take a screen shots along the way and I'll prepare images for the web. What do you think?

No :D You can't have cell from one VTS added into PGC in another VTS. What you can do instead: is to have a PGC with this cell in VMG or in another VTS and just use PGC post command in all your episodes to go there.
New Question Two - Is it possible to UNDO a HIDE, REPLACE or SUB? I haven't found it and after making a mistake I am shutting off the program and starting OVER.
Here is the trick: Replace dialog gives you access to the original cells. Just replace edited one with the original :D

Nope, not yet.

Oh SURE... I need a week with every thing on my plate... But I'll put something together... I need it for my website too... I plan to build a road map start to finish for newbie and intermediate users... I'll stay away from expert because I don't think 80% of us want to go down that road...
Newbie is:
1) - DVDShrink start to finish but there are a lot of tricks to doing some cool stuff with Shrink I don't see discussed...
Intermediate would be:
1) - DVDDecryptor
2) - DVDReMake or MenuEdit & IFOEdit
3) - DVDShrink or Nero
I'll be building these out of html (interactive style) but people can download the whole set as a ZIP and run it locally if they choose...
UPDATE: Check out new guides for DVDReMake on Dimadsoft.com (http://dimadsoft.com)... New features added to the upcoming DVDReMakePro 2.0... Check this thread soon for release date!

Get some sleep geffroman :) Still awake... I just found out that DVDReMake wipes out TXT Data (actually it removes the entire sector assigned to the TXT Data)... shame shame shame... Few enough movies have that data... I was eventually going to ask if you could build ADDING TXT Data to DVDReMake... As time goes on and DVD Players get smarter they will all display this information. Down the road people are going to kick themselves for not adding this info to their collection NOW !
If you own a Juke Box like I do the TXT Data is critical today... I have to manually HEX edit this stuff into the VIDEO_TS file of 90% of my back-ups. On occassion Hollywood does include this data as was the case with "Somethings Gotta Give" but you cleaned it out.
Short term can you NOT alter this info...? You can still add your Provider ID without taking away the TXT Data.
Question Two - Can the hide feature use less frames. like 00'00'00'01? If you use HIDE on FBI... Studio... Four Previews... you can end up with a 5 second delay when puting the disc in as all these 15 frame blanks play... This is why I had asked before about converting Post Commands to Pre Commands.

I'm not sure: 15 frames is about a half a second - the "time size" of a VOBU. I know it can't be much large then that, but could it be smaller? No idea. Anybody knows?

True but the player takes a long time to present them when each is in a different VTS - Titleset Blanker has the same problem.
Changing Post commands to Pre cures that because the player doesn't need to find the frame to play.

I just did 18 discs with DVDReMake...
CSI Season 3... Homicide Season 4... Little House Season 3...
Overall it was awesome... It also reinforces what would make it even better...
BATCH BATCH BATCH... :D
Adding Chapters to PGCs would be HUGE...There is nothing better than ADDChapter for discs you don't need to process all over again. But having it built into DVDReMake is the way. Being able to move Post Commands to Pre Commands to eliminate lag created by blanked out titles. Hopefully with auto-correction of BREAK Commands.
Adjustment of Cell values (still time and such)
Reducing the blank frame from 00'00'00'15 to 00'00'00'01. This is found on store bought DVDs. 15 frames is most common but not always the number used. I should add we could Replace Blocks one at a time with our own 1-frame clip. A REPLACE ALL Blocks feature would help. DVD TEXT insertion or modification or at least the lack or removal of existing text.
Dare I suggest a possible Teaming up with DVD-RB with hooks to make the Exports of DVD-RM port directly into DVD-RB... Tell me that would not be the hottest thing...
Better visual notice of which thumbnail is selected. Blue line very thin.
Substitute Block feature is all visual. It was hard to find the right thumb nail when looking to have 4 episodes all point their end credits to one clip. If somehow navigation could include the PGC & Prog numbers I could know better what I was looking at.
Is it possible to have a preview with sound button... If I use scroll bar it almost a preview. But some time, especially when subing blocks you need to know the audio to choose right end credits.
This is my wish list... Please let NO ONE think this is a complaint list... DVDReMake has fast become my number one editor of choice...
I know you are looking at some if not all of these as options... and I thank you for the proggie as it is thus far... Even though I am a paying customer I am feeling the need to DONATE MORE... I guess that means you need to have a chargeable upgrade for major feature changes... I probably just pissed off the "I want it FREE" crowd... but you save me time and allow me to do things in my back-ups that I just COULD NOT do without DVDReMake...
Cheers to you Dimad...
UPDATE: Maybe this is not news but I am thrilled. The main reason I back-up my DVDs the moment I get them is because I hate watching previews and trailers and Studio Logos. Not new to anyone to be sure. But the thing I am stuck with is the long repetitive Studio LOGOS at the beginning of the first chapter because I am not going to take the time to become a professional RE-AUTHORer.
To the point: Today I got "Haas of Fand and Sog". Dreemwerks' Speelburg has his boy fishing from the moon EVERYWHERE on this disc even the first chapter INTRO. I opened the DVD in SHRINK... Used the RE-Author mode to cut out the first chapter. I started the chapter after the moon boy and ended it by selecting end chapter point one. It took 29 seconds to produce this mini movie... I then opened the original DVD in DVDReMake... used Replace block to stuff my new chapter in place of the original one... I dumped all the FORCED PREVIEWS; Moon Boy Clips; and FB-eye love letters with HIDE BLOCK... I ran through the menus for audio and subtitle languages I didn't want and DELETED those buttons... DVDReMake was essential because there were many versions of these menus from beginning to end of a strip of 20 blocks to find... Would have been challenging with MenuEdit... I hit the Export Button and in 10 minutes have a perfect DVD void of the crap to run through DVDShrink to disk on default mode.
More to the point is that MY Total Time Spent in the Chair pushing buttons was less than 5 minutes ! and that includes taking 1.5 minutes to ADD DVD Text data with HEXEdit manually.
Damn Dimad... DVD-RM ROCKs... Double Cheers...

It is just a question of having such vob (with cell that lasts only 00'00'00'01). If I'll get them for PAL and NTSC, I'll replace current with shorter ones.
Thanks for the features request - some of them may see the world soon.
DVDReMake has fast become my number one editor of choice...
:) Glad to hear.

A desire to see what/how will you write when you put your hands on features planned in ver 2.0 (which will be about adding things to the dvd as opposed to removing them in ver 1) makes me work harder on ver 2. :D :D :D

Well, you would have saved yourself this 29 seconds and time opening/closing applications if you would just open block with the boy in preview pane scroll to the "...after the moon boy and ended", right clicked on the frame and selected cut to here.
Ops. Boy is gone. :) :)

Well, I have fun working on it, users should have fun working with it. :)

Wow... I just did not know those features were there... that's way way better... and I thought I was being smart... You are dah man...
BUT... I have to ask for things everytime I compliment you... With the cut tool in place you REALLY need to be able to know where the sound track is... nothing worse than making a clean cut in the black between two scenes only to find out later that you got the last NOTE of the previous sound clip...
and if it is not too anal a time clock would be helpful too...
Thanks again Diman

DvdReMake can cut any cell. It could be either end of last one - credits, or start of the first one - intro, or any other cell to cut some comercials. And it will fix everything in vobs and ifo files so that search (fast forward/backward) works fine.
Actually it can even cut motion menu to reduce its size, and (what a surprice ) it will still work.
It is not possible at the moment to cut part inside the cell keeping both start and end of the cell.

Great new features in 1.4.2... Looks like I'll be able to make my split discs even faster with your new remove all blocks before and after...!
Check Out New features... (http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremake/history.php)
I also just found out that by pulling down on the window divider just below the thumbnails that I can enlarge those little guys to any size I want... I wonder when I will run out of helpful features to discover...?
