UPDATE: DVDReMake 2.0 & DVDReMakePRO 2.0 is out! (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77541)

I have only spent a few minutes with DVDReMake Demo (http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php?rfr=psu) . It appears this program could eventually allow me to replace three (3) programs with just one (1) tool.

Example:

I like BEST quality Video and Full Menus and Extras... This is just not always possible on a DVD-R 5. Case in point 007-James Bond Collection.

I keep full menus, but I put Special Features on their own disc much as the Studio does now with new 007 DVDs. The idea is to have the Special Features Disc start up in Special Features mode and behave as if it was a Bonus Disc all along.

1) - In the past I needed IFOEdit for edits.
2) - MenuEdit for Button deletions.
3) - VOBRator for viewing of PGCs to make my edit decisions.

It appears now I can do all my viewing of menus and video by Title Set/PGC/Program/& CELL. I can also make interactive edits to menu buttons without opening MenuEdit using DVDReMakes Preview window. I can see most everything IFOEdit shows me. I'm not sure this can replace IFOEdit for me but it will make some of my projects far simpler.

As others have said it also is a great interface for MenuEdit even if that's all you use it for. Now you can view the whole DVD in less time than MenuEdit can take to open just one VTS.

Dimad, I hope you keep with this project.

Questions:

1) - Is it your intention to allowing editing to the body of data that you are displaying?
2) - Will you be adding buttons for Expand All/Collapse All?
3) - Need to be able to select multiple buttons for Delete/Hide.
4) - Given time & developement could this be the logical GUI driven replacement to IFOEdit?

Regards... Jeff

The demo has a feature that was denied in free version of MenuEdit. This is the feature about viewing button commands. This is useful, for the moment, for Step 8 in this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67564). ;)

Hello All,

Dimad has released DVDReMake_068 Demo in the hopes of getting some user feedback and to show the program in its beta stages. To get the App to a stable Version 1, your support and feedback is needed. The people in this very forum were very instrumental in helping MenuEdit grow into the usefull tool we all enjoy. What is needed is lots of debug info from any demo users. The IFO parsing code has matured to the stage that it handles most DVD's, if not all. So, please readers of this thread, if ANY problems are found OPENING a DVD, Viewing the video, clicking buttons, basically anything...Post it here. Also, the project is growing and isn't finalized, so, please post your wishes or wants. It may be rolled into code and we all can benifit from the final App. I would like to of course thank DIMAD, for continuing to listen to us all, but for letting us "Have the Disk the way WE WANT IT" - Thanks.

hi,

I opened some disks without any problems (PAL/NTSC).
I understand that its important that the ifo-parsing works for opening a disk, but isn't the output the harder part ?

Well I have four examples of non-opening DVDs so the output doesn't really matter.....

(I reported to Dimad already)

I'm trying to.

Questions:

2) - Will you be adding buttons for Expand All/Collapse All?
3) - Need to be able to select multiple buttons for Delete/Hide.
4) - Given time & developement could this be the logical GUI driven replacement to IFOEdit?
[/B]

1) yes.
2) it can be done
3) yes, it was this way with MenuEdit. Now it takes a mouse click to hide/delete a button, so I don't see much point in complicating interface by allowing multiple buttons selection. But if I'll hear this request often enough - I'll implement it.
4) It might be. Or may be Derrow will have time to develop IfoEdit futher and it will be more powerfull and easier to use then DvdReMake. We will see. DvdReMake is designed in a way that it shoud be fairly easy to add more features to it. It just a question of "time & development efforts".

hi,

I had a look at the latest demo and I can't see how to "unhide"
items. this would be very useful if you accidently hide an item.

There is no "undo" available at the moment. For sure it is one of the features on DvdReMake todo list. As a workaround one can use "Save" or "Save as..." and "Open" to save/open edited project.

Have anybody tried DvdReMake demo on older computers running win95 or 98 (especially if there is not much memory installed on them)? Do you experience any problems?

Hi,
i'm using the demo to understand well the structure of the dvd.
An idea for a (4 me) useful feature: the ability to copy the instructions shown in the upper right window.
The parsing is more clean than ifoedit and, for now, i'll have to switch between the 2 progs to find and modify some instructions...copying end printing them will be a great help.

Thanks.

It will be possible to edit commands directly in DvdReMake soon. All commands (all flavors and various combinations of set and if) will be supported. I guess, it might be an end to hex command editing :)

Command coping and pasting will also be supported.

Get to Titleset 5 and tells me "incorrect tileset". this is on a fresh rip using DVD Decrypter. Any ideals?

Hi, everyone!

DvdReMake 1.0 is finaly released. There is no guide yet :(, but it is coming.
Actually the only thing to know about how to use DvdReMake is that you need to "right click" on the item you want to change. :) Everything is done through pop-up menus.

MenuEdit users can upgrade to DvdReMake from their DimadSoft account.

I can not open an project created with 0.6x with the latest (1.0)version ?!

Yes, unfortunately had to change drp format :( for release 1. Some info about dvd was not saved old way, and this could result in incorrect LinkCN command when disk is exported after editing. I hope there will be no more such changes for future releases.

DvdReMake creates a log file in the directory where it is started from. What does it say in DvdReMake.log?

Could please everybody who wants to submit bug report attach DvdReMake.log file? Thanks.

I purchased menuedit a couple of weeks ago and love it. Just stumbled upon this post and got the demo of dvdremake.
This looks just as good if not better :) especially as you don't have to open each VTS seperately.
Question.
In menuedit after replacing cells etc of intros or whatever you had to run it through ifoedit to correct it. Pardon me for asking but does DVDremake take care of it now? As the Gui is far easier especially for someone like me with limited ifoedit knowledge.

Wish List
1)Maybe an option to preview movie parts with sound in VTS sets with Play, FF, RW options etc.
2)To be able to remove unwanted audio streams ie 5.1 or DTS or directors commentry.
Cheers

Ok just done my first project with it. Slight hiccup. Played in two software DVD players and ifoedit.
I have removed some of the bonus features.

1)Navigate to bonus features.
2)Buttons go from top to bottom. Default button 1 on bonus i have hidden along with button 2. Kept button 3 for outtakes and return button. So far so good.
The next section is the problem.
3)When navigates to outtakes I kept default button 1, 2, 3 and return but deleted 4 (Top to bottom again)
When I arrive at this screen the button will not stay over/next to any button positon when hovered over with mouse or navigated to with arrow keys, it flashes briefly then goes away but if i select the button it works.

Is this user error or program?

Thx

Yes, that is the biggest difference between DvdReMake and MenuEdit.

When dvd is imported DvdReMake parses all ifos and checks if information in them corresponds to vob files. Quite often (even in professionaly authored disks) there is a mismatch between info in ifo and vob files. In this case vob files are parsed to tetermine correct info.

Actually, this may be used as an "undocumented" feature. You can replace vob files with whatever you like or even delete them. DvdReMake will use cells found in new vobs (by vob/cell id), or automatically substitute blanks if some cell listed in ifo is not found in vob files.

When modifyed disk (or should I say butchered? as it is not yet possible to add new things like titlesets, titles, PGS, etc) is exported, DvdReMake recreates all ifo files from scratch so that they correspond to the modified disk.

All timings and offsets in nav packs in vob files are also almost completely recreated (even if cells are not cut). May be one of this timings is computed/written incorrectly (like "Highlight end time").

Are you comfortable with VobEdit? Can you compare first nav-pack of original and modified cells with menu where you have problem?

Ta for the reply dimad. Love the prog so far.
I have never used Vobedit, but I'll give it a go to see if I can understand it.
I'll try anything once, twice if I like it ;)
Ok just tried the disc from the above post. Ok, until you get to bonus features/outtakes then freezes. So I assume its a problem/bug with the program. Is it possible to run it through ifoedit or something to correct it. What can I do?
Thx

Dimad
3rd March 2004, 12:36
Could you please decribe in more details what you were doing?

I assume that you rip a whole disk with something like DVD decrypter,
then without doing anything to it import disk to DvdReMake.

What is next? Do you hide/cut any cells in menus? In movie?

As I understand you modify 2 menus (say A and B).
On A there 4 buttons, you've hidden (or deleted?) buttons #1 and #2.
On menu B there are also 4 buttons and you've deleted (hidden?) button #4.

After that when you play exported by dvdremake disk in software player it shows all menus ok (menu A as well), but does not show hihlights (shows briefly) when you get to menu B.

When played in standalone you can get to menu A (are highlights ok?) and select button to go to menu B. Then it freezes? Or it goes to B? If so, can you see highlights on B?

Do you "hide" or "delete" buttons? Deleting changes numbers on buttons after the deleted one.

Do you use any other program before/after DvdReMake to modify disk content?

Rimmer
3rd March 2004, 19:54
Ok this is my method.
1)Rip entire disc in file mode via DVD decrypter.
2)Import disc into dvdremake - Basic mode.
3)Hide two blocks in video manager 0.02mb & 0.11 files.
4)VTS 1- Main movie and menus. In bonus features menu there are 4 buttons 1 at top 4 at bottom. Hide button 1 & 2 leaving button 3-link to outtakes and button 4 return.
5)Still in VTS 1 outtakes menu. 5 buttons 1 top 5 bottom, hide button 4 leave the rest.
6)Hide two blocks in VTS 2 bonus features from point 4above (movie files).
7)Hide block in VTS 3 the movie file from hidden button in point 5.
8)Hide block in VTS 6 - Movie file after intro then leads to Disc menu after it plays.
9)Hide 2 blocks in VTS 7.

Files in VTS sets -
Video manager-Warning file 0.11mb , & 0.02mb file, & 0.1mb file
VTS1-Main movie files & menus
VTS2-5 bonus movie files & 0.01mb file
VTS3-1 bonus movie file & 0.01mb file
VTS4-1 bonus movie file & 0.01mb file
VTS5-1 bonus movie file & 0.01mb file
VTS6-1 bonus movie file & 0.01mb file
VTS7-2 bonus movie file & 0.01mb file

Then export movie.
Results - Play movie in software player.
a)Navigate to bonus. First two buttons that were hidden in point 4 are hidden and pointer next to buttons appears, stays on screen or moves if you navigate to return. = OK
b)Navigate to outtakes. When you press up on remote or hover over with mouse, no little cursor stays next to any of the buttons where we hide button 4 in point 5 but you can still select the outake and it works. Its just the cursor next to the button doesn't stay active/in place.

After this I just burn if under 4.3 or encode. I do not put it through any other software to modify disk content.
Just burning it now to test it in a standalone.

PS Just found 2 bug's in prog.

If I highlight a block in video manager to play/scroll through in window as if to browse a movie, I cannot even though its a few seconds long. Then if I then go to one of my blocks in main movie VTS I cannot scroll through them either. I then have to close program then reimport movie. But if I go to main movie blocks first I can scroll through.
Also if I also do the above, then click on one of the blocks in video manager then (imagine there are 20 or so movie blocks in vid manager) then you would use the slidebars to view the movie blocks. If i catch the little grey bar next to the left arrow "<" it drags over the slidebar and you get multiple little grey bars.http://groups.msn.com/RimmersPics/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1
The only way to sort this is ti restart prog too.
Thx

EDIT: Just burnt. Plays ok until Menu B Outtakes. Player freezes only way to get out it to press menu or title etc.
When navigated to menu b the little cursor briefley appears (1 second) next to the button then goes off and player then freezes.

Hope thats enough detail for you Dimad.

Here is an explanation (Q#2): http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=57186
"Delete" does the same as "remove button" in MenuEdit, "hide" is "hide + jump to non deleted".

@Rimmer
I have two news for you: good and bad :)
Good: I've double checked vob export code - everything seams ok.
Bad: I can't reproduce your problems. Could you please make a zip for me with:
all original ifo files + vob file with original cell where there are highlight problems;
same things exported by DvdReMake;
DvdReMake.log file;

You can easily get vob file with needed cell by opening it in MenuEdit and deleting everything else (hint: start deleting from the end). You said it is a still - should not be very big. Send it to dimad at dimadsoft dot com.

Are you sure you "hide" buttons? This should not affect navigation in any way.

Dimad, congratulations! This looks incredibly good. Should upgrade from MenuEdit real soon :)

Something that immediately popped to my mind when I saw DVDReMake... you seem to be able to get every bit of information about the DVD structure, including button commands etc. Now in addition to the ability to export the "butchered" DVD, what about a "Demux" export that demuxes all assets and at the same time creates a Scenarist script recreating the complete original structure? I know that means a ton of work, but it would become the ultimate "DoItAllAndDoItRight4U" almost one-click app ;)

Or as an alternative, given what you have already accomplished, maybe you are the one who could eventually write a working "Remux M2V" function that would remux an M2V with different GOP structure into the original VOBs...

I hope this doesn't "fix" the frame count for still images/still menus in the IFO? As you may know, in these cases the IFO usually reports something like 12 frames or so but there is only a single (or a series of) I-Frames for the still pictures.

So I can remove / change the functionality of the button but I can't remove / change the button label (play, deleted scene, etc) from the menu. Is that correct?

Thanks. I hope from now on it will get "even better" as most misterious part -dvd bits and pieces- is done. There might be some more small things, like Rimmer found, here and there not noticed during beta testing, but it is just a question of someone running into it and reporting.

Have to say A HUGE THANKS, I mean A HUGE THANKS, to MPUCoder for the information on his site and time he spend answering my tedious e-mails. And of course to beta testers (hey you know who you are :) If you want, just let me know and I'll put your names/nicks here as well :) ).

Well, it might be easier then you think (or may be more complex then I think ;) ). Problem is, I've never worked with Scenarist and I don't have specs of scenarist scrips.

Actually that is the thing I was wondering about for a long time (since replace cell was added to MenuEdit). Why should one bother with GOP structure. Dvd basically is a set of rules to navigate between pieces - vob cells. Replace cell with some other cell (does not metter how it was created as long as it is valid VOB) with all the needed streams and that is it. I don't have much experience with this, but don't tell me (I will not beleive it anyway :) )that there is no program that can correctly multiplex video, audio(s) and subpicture(s) into one vob cell.

I'm not sure I understand. DvdReMake looks into vob to find out what is its duration and uses this as playback time to write into ifo.

You are right. At the moment DvdReMake (just like MenuEdit) can't modify video (or as a matter of fact any other stream).

Edited: Sorry, not exactly right. DvdReMake can cut cells, so in a way it is streams modification.

Dimad,

Another useful program. Thanks for all the time and effort you are
putting into this. I like the remuxing a .M2V file ideal that another
user had. That would be aewsome to encode a video using CCE and remux it in. That is the one thing that IfoEdit never did correctly. If you can make it happen, it would be greatly appreciated. And I am sure that I am not the only one that would appreciate it. Either way, thanks again.

On another note, I am a user of your other program, MenuEdit. Use it every week. Thanks. I am going to upgrade to the registered version of DVDReMake, but I won't be able to do so till next Friday, my next pay day. Will your prices remain the same till then? Just curious.

Thanks again. Take care. Later.

Well, of course there are such programs. Scenarist and Maestro for instance. Problem is they cost a huge amount of money. My point was that we should be able to avoid these complex programs and the tedious task of breaking the DVD completely apart and then reauthor the whole thing including complicated things like BOV. We still need to do this if we tried to use the "replace cell" feature because as you say, it needs to be taken from a valid VOB with all the streams present. It should be possible to remux a reencoded M2V into the original VOBs and at the same time of course, strip unwanted audio/sub streams. But AFAIK this is a big problem because a lot of things need to be readjusted.

I'm not sure I understand. DvdReMake looks into vob to find out what is its duration and uses this as playback time to write into ifo.
OK, this may then destroy still pictures, unless we have a misunderstanding.

Let me describe how you author a "slide show" in Scenarist, for example. You create a track and add several still pictures (bitmap files). You can "stretch" every bitmap to play for a specific time. Let's say you add 3 pictures and set each to play for 30 seconds. In the final IFO, the still show will be a single cell with a playback time of 00:00:01:30 BUT the VOB cell will actually have only 3 single I-Frames. Now if you "fix" that, the viewer's experience will be limited ;)

Similar for "still shows" and "still menus" (in Scenarist terms). A still show is similar to a slide show (multiple still pictures represented as single I-Frames in a single cell in the VOB) except that you can't specify their playback time. The final cell will have the "Restricted" flag set in the IFO and the user needs to press the enter key on the remote to skip through the still images. A still menu again is a cell with a single I-Frame representing the menu picture and the required subpicture and highlight stream and the "Still Time" in the IFO will be set to 255. For both still shows and still menus, Scenarist sets the playback time to 12 frames in the IFO no matter what.

Sure, I'll put it on to do list. As soon as I'm done with "basic" functionality I would like to have in DvdReMake I will play with this. Is there any "printed" document on this subject, so that I can read it in my spare time (when I have time but can't get hold of computer:) )

May be it is not possible to specify playback time in Scenarist, but as far as I understand each vobu in the cell has some playback time (it has start presentation time and end presentation time fields). So what actually happens to stills: they play for as long as specifeid in vobu, then last frame freezes for specified amount of seconds (or inf). By the way what is happening to sound then? I guess it just stops. Anyway, if you look into PGC that has a one I frame cell and still time (say 3 sec), then cell duration is 12 frames (.5 sec - vobu duration) and same is PGC duration.

According to MPUCoder:

Restricted play is normally set for menues to prevent fast
forward/reverse from flying by them. It is not enough to prohibit the
operation, as the skipping could be started outside the cell.

Firstly I'd like to say A Massive thanks to you Dimad. The new update worked. This program is 1st Class.

Only the issue I posted earlier about the slidebar at the bottom and the clicking on items in video manager then trying to view individual movie cells in VTS set.
After clicking/right click to "hide item" item in vid manager it is impossible to use the slidebar at bottom to scroll through an individual movie cell once you have clicked on a cell in Vid manager.
This is what my slidebar looked like after exporting the DVD --->http://groups.msn.com/RimmersPics/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=3

The slidebar became see through as well as the '<' icon disappearing.

Dimad,
Do you think you'll be able to implement a player with sound into it that gives the user the same controls as in software player or ifoedit?
Can it be made possible to remove audio streams too?
These additions would make this in my opinion one of the best backup tools around.

One of the reasons why I ask if you can implement some sort of player is that I have just had a go with my second disc and the results differ in different software DVD players.

PowerDVD XP
When the title button is pressed or when the movie plays from begining the little cursor next to "English" lights for a second then goes off, but you can press play to enter. On original it stays on screen untill you make a choice, whether you choose english or Dutch etc.
When I select disc setup button the menu navigates to the wrong menu, it goes to scene selection instead of setup.

Instant Cinema
The little cursor doesn't show up on this one at all on title screen, but the setup button navigates to the correct screen.

A man of your talent must be able too sort this ;)

hi,

the last 2 disks I "remade" didn't play correctly in my dvd player.
the disk is recognized by the player, but no picture. it's like
the menu is missing (which is not because it's there when I play the disk in my pc). on one disk I can press next and the movie is beginning, the other is not working at all.

regards,

m.

So that you will have third one different from first two (and hence more confusion)? ;)

If seriously, I've never thought of adding sound playback in DvdReMake, and I don't think I'll make a player (i.e. something that plays with normal speed), but there are plans to have a ... (well, I'm not sure when it will be done, so lets call it a thing), which will let user trace dvd navigation.

Derrow said it couldn't be done with IfoEdit due to the limitation of the DVD player. Here's that old thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37545). I've a feeling it's possible and I hope you can successfully come up with one. ;)

About the Player,
I thought maybe if you added a player that is part of DVDRM it may give you the exact answer as to what the finished DVD will end up playing like. Also to tell you exactly what parts you need to delete. Sometimes its just easier If you can hear the audio too as you scroll through the video.

What about being able to remove audio tracks, will you be able to add that so that you dont have to open up ifoedit to remove them in there as it means writing the Vob files twice. Once in DVDRM and then In ifoedit.
....or is it ok to remove audio tracks in Instant Copy 8? I know people say removing video etc can cause some players to hang in IC, but seeing as I have already hidden the buttons in DVDRM that would normally navigate to the other soundtrack I don't see how it would be able to freeze.
What do you guys think?

Dimad, any idea on the slidebar/video manager bug? Have you managed to re-create this problem?

Just authoring the first disc since 1.0.1. I'll let you know how I go on.

LOL - I've been pestering various software authors for a command debugger that stops before each command and shows / asks if it should be executed - I think Dimad can do it!

Heres the newest release of DVDTray Player with very good IFO analysis debug info (released yesterday):
DVD Tray Player Pro v1.6 (http://www.mmbforums.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4543)
Its a good companion for any authoring work.

Eventually, but as you say it is possible to do it with ifo edit and other apps., so I would prefer to concentrate on some other features which are not available in other apps.

No, not yet. I'll add some more output to log file in next upgrade which might help resolving the problem. By the way, are there any messages in DvdReMake.log file?

What system you are running it on? There were no problems observed on NT, 2K, XP.

I'm running XP pro SP1.
Ok i've run a couple of scenarios.
This is exactly as it happens.
1)Open a project.
2)If you click any movie cell it is possible to use slidebar to scroll through movie in cell.
3)Go to Vid manager and left click to highlight a movie cell.
4)Go back to any move cell, it is still possible to scroll through movie.
BUT
5)If you open, go to any movie cell scroll, scroll ok.
6)Go back to Vid manager highlight a cell important partleft click on slidebar and try to move from side to side as if it was a movie cell and you were trying to scroll through movie.
7)Now go back to a movie cell the slidebar before was a tiny little line, now it is one big bar and it is now impossible to scroll through same movie cell as you could before.

There are no messages which may indicate an error in logfile.

WOW !!!!!!
I love you guys !!!!!
I was looking for a debugger a lot of time ago.
I tought to ask Dimad if it could implement a such feature in DvdRemake, and now i read the post of maa, telling about a program with this feature :)))
Maybe i can solve my problems with it...i hope yes :)
I have no words...
With the help of 2Cool, Dimad, Maa, and the other people that post here i can understand, little by litte, a lot of things about dvd reauthoring.

Thank you to everybody :)

Is this program more compatible than dvdstripper for cell replacement? One of my players locks everytime it reads the DS replacement even when I've tried picking different cells, but its never had a problem with retail disks or edited conformant backups the likes of which are beyond me.

If I could test it in the standalone I would know whether to upgrade for sure. I don't want to make the same mistake as with DS of not trying before I buy.

Think I'll try DVD Tray Player Pro v1.6

Well Addie,
I have never used DVD Stripper before but the DVD's I have put through DVDRM have worked on all my set tops with no problem.

mikegun done a nice job helping to figure out what is wrong. Two problems were identified:
- he has hidden a menu cell with buttons. There were commands in PGC that loop this cell and all what was shown is a black screen without any way of getting out (since the only way out was to select menu item).

Generaly it is not good idea to hide blocks with buttons unless they have infinite still time - then dvdremake will remove still time and there is a chance that there are no loops.

It is much safer to just "cut from" first frame. You will still have a picture, all buttons will be awailable to navigate from the menu and it will take less space.

- some strange behaviour (at least to me) of his player. There were 2 language units on the disk EN and DE. DvdReMake exported disk with both LU plays fine. If DE language unit deleted - plays fine. If EN - player does not like it.

Anybody seen something like this?
