Na i wasn't using it fully integrated, so 2000 for the avg and what, say about 9000 for max ?
I just installed RC4 and CCE got to about the 21st file it had to encode and it had just stopped , wasn't moving.

Max depends on the bitrate of the audio ofcourse, but with 9000 you'll be safe. Setting a bitrate around 2000 will mostly result in a 50% reduction.
Don't know why encoding stopped. i mess the process up myself regularly by killing one of the popups, but with encoding this is different ofcourse.

Just curious as if to anyone has tryed resizing the menus ?
Im gonna give it a bash a add " BicubicResize(352,576) " to the avs editor under normal for pal. 352 x 576 if it works should resize the menu to the same as a CVD, as this res is in the dvd standards.
I'll report back see what i find.
OK, i added BicubicResize(352,576)to the avs under normal, but when numenu has finished and it gets to docce4u and cce starts up i get some checksum error crap, something about number of pass' being different, i thought the script may be wrong or messed, so i opened one of the avs' that had BicubicResize(352,576)in it in virtual dub and it ok fine, i then loaded one of these avs' into cce manually and it started to encode and work fine, i only get that error if i let numenu do its thing, then let docce4u startup then when cce starts to go i get the error.
Any ideas as i would like to try resizing the menu to CVD standards as at a lower bitrate i should get better quality, then i would with full dvd res. Then quality should be higher than vcd and about the same as a hight quality svcd.
OK the error says ....
cce encoding failed : error : video check-sum is different from that of previous pass.
Source video data or time code may be different
please check video tape of information file
-- information --
current: check-sum 00000000
previous: check-sum 004d2e6d
As i say the script works as i can load it manually and it opens in VD

I'm having problems with RC4. After it completes, NuMenu4u opens around 20 instances of IfoEdit. It doesn't seem to compress the VOB's either. The files in VIDEO_TS folder are all identical in size to the ones on the DVD. I used the DOitfast4u integration method and followed the instructions exactly. Does anyone know what's wrong, and why NuMenu4u opens IfoEdit so many times?

@Master Yoda
I have no idea why that should occur, but it will be a CCE error not NuMenu4u.
@newguy007
Can you be more specific, what is written in the IfoEdit title bar? Is it IfoEdit v*** or IfoEdit Zeul.
It is possible that you are using version not recognised, but i thought i had everyone.

I managed to fix the problem. I had my ifoedit named "ifoedit2.exe" and that's why it didn't work. I guess it must be named ifoedit.exe.

NuMenu4u has now gone final - 1.0.0
Auto detection of fake VOB's is now implemented (via AUX menu).
A major issue with MenuStripper has now been resolved.
Fixed some small bugs
I have slowed IfoEdit down, for sending the filenames in the re-author stage. This is to allow IfoEdit to process each file properly. This is really for the slower machines.
A proper guide for useage and implementation with the BIG 3 will follow soon.

Congratulations to Couvdvd and Andy for the first bugs.
A BatchCCEWS detection bug has been fixed.
Code change to take account of all the latest Avisynth releases.
There may be some confusion over whether you feel NuMenu4u has worked for you. If you have selected to Auto Detect Dummy Vobs (under AUX Settings) then it is quite likely that no encoding will be done at all (ie CCE never called) and your resltant file size will be only a few Megs. The whole process could be over in just a few minutes. Basically if there is large Vob id that is never used it is a fake, and what is the point of keeping such a file - it just wastes space. So this Vob id will be replaced with one of a few KB in size. For example take the Lion King (R2) the Video_TS.VOB is 636MB in size, and all but the first Id are fakes. The new Video_TS.VOB after processing with NuMenu4u is only 800KB in size. Thats 635MB of space saved without any encoding.

I've just finished ripping gladiator PAL, and found that the numenu v1.0.1 gives me bad menus. You should get about 10 seconds of video followed by some buttons. When i click the subtitles button eg, i get thrown into the chapter selection, only I can't select any chapters, it looks like it's just playing the video of the chapter menu. and after about 10 more seconds, suddenly the audio menu starts playing all by itself.
I re-did the menu with several settings such as not doing the auto-detect dummy vob's, but no matter what, I always get this problem.
I re-installed RC4, and that one gives no problems. (though it occasionally crashes while using ifoedit, but the previous rc's also had that...)
Any ideas what's changed in the final version that can explain this?

...i think there is a bug in the ifoedit mux app...maybe you should check if the ifoedit app can handle very small files or delay or whatever. numenu very often crash at the mux point ("ifoedit had to be closed" windows error)

NuMenu4U 1.0.2 now available.
All file sizes are now handled
Fixed issue where the IFO would on occasion not be updated correctly
It was reported that the checkboxes sometimes did not show on the UI - resolved
FilipeAmadeuO - you are correct. I have finally been able to replicate this. Code has been changed and no longer occurs
Rasta21 - I have verified that IfoUpdate is handling small files.

Hi, thought I better mention this as it might help with the development. Ran into a bit of a problem. Working on Star-Wars Phantom Menace. The main movie menu vob is fairly large (817 meg) so I wanted to try encoding it. The app ran smooth, no problems until the entire project was done.
The disk would load properly, but if I choose a menu say options (they all behaved the same) I could select once on the menu (say turn on english subs) and then I would lose the menu selection highlight and could not select anything else. This was strangly consistant in that no matter what you selected it would disappear. You would not get it back unless you eject the disk and start over. By the way this is region 1 disk if it matters.
I would assume the exact same behaviour on Attack of the Clones as the mastering for both movies is almost identical.
Anyone else seeing something like this??
I should clarify this was with version 1.0.0
Zeul
27th November 2003, 19:26
@ trigger638
I think this has a lot to do with the menu size and the way I was handling the button table transfer. 1.0.2 handles the transfer differently, so I would be interested to know if there is any difference. You can check the menu only on completion of NuMenu4u by opening the VIDEO_TS folder in WINDVD. If a titleset is to be played (pressing PLAY for example) then WINDVD will freeze but if you are testing button selection then it will run good.

Well I use power dvd. Let me explain, I compile a film complete. When its all done, I will load video_ts.ifo as a file in the player and run through the entire film checking for problems. Funny thing is that the menu behaved properly while playing around with it in power dvd. It was not until I burned the image and played it on my sony that things went wrong. I am very carefull when I burn a master, I burn at 1x and run exhaustive tests to be sure everything is correct.
I am certain that this was not a burn related error. But again it was not evident during playback on the software player. Again the menu cut scenes and things of that nature ran perfectly, heck it even ran the random cut scenes proper. Just the select buttons were borked.
I will attempt a run with the newest version as soon as I get time to see if it addresses the problem. I will post results here as soon as I have them.
Zeul

@trigger638 that is a very strange situation. PowerDVD is known for being the least forgiving of any software player. If there is a problem PowerDVD will pick it up. It almost sounds like a command error either within the IFO or in the VOB itself.
@Trott I did alter the way the IFO was written and have found that there was an error with it. Latest version addresses this problem.

First, thanx for writing this handy program, i've used it several times now.
But I think i've found a bug in numenu4u 1.0.2 (I didn't take the time to read back the whole thread, so maybe it's an "old" bug)
I have a menu, of which the first vobid contains 2 cells. The first cell has no buttons (it's an intro to the menu), and the second cell has 3 buttons.
When numenu4u is finished, that particular vobid has only 1 cell, with no buttons.
Somehow when recreating the vob, numenu4u looks at vobid1-cellid1, and sees no buttons, so he recreates that vob also without buttons. (and with only 1 cell)
I think numenu should have processed this menu (or atleast this vobid) by cell-id.
So I ended up remuxing the m2v into the original vobid in the oldfashioned way with vobedit and ifoedit.

I just found another vobid with multiple cells in my menu.
It seems that it's not the multiple cells, thats causing the trouble but the multiple cells, with the same cell-id. (so probably it's a vob, where the subpicture doesn't start @ 0)
I examined the vobs with menuedit (by dimad):
vobid1: cellid:1(0 buttons) & cellid:1 (3 buttons)
becomes cellid:1(0 buttons)
AND
vobid30: cellid:1(0 buttons) & cellid:1 (2 buttons) & cellid:2 (2 buttons)
becomes cellid:1(0 buttons) & cellid:2 (2 buttons)
Hope it helpes

hmm the only way that could happen would be if ifoedit didn't reauthor the vob properly, or if the cell data txt wasn't passed to ifoedit. have you run it just once or tried a couple of times?
Zeul
edit:
so you have a vob file that has several cells with different menu structures but the same id. Thats a new one on me.
DrChair
2nd December 2003, 13:21
Well, i've seen them many times...
They are just like normal vobs, only the (forced)subpicture, and thus the buttons start a few seconds later than the video.
So the first part of a cell has no buttons, and the second part does.
If you want it, i can put up a sample online somewere.
Greetz DrChair
btw i've also seen menuvobs were only the middlepart has buttons, but the first and last don't

i've also seen menuvobs were only the middlepart has buttons, but the first and last don't Must be a really "bad" case. :)
But having segments with different amount of buttons in the same cell - is quite typical. Many MenuEdit users confirmed this.

trigger638,
I tried backing up Phantom Menace R1 last night and experienced the same exact situation that you described in your post. The first menu had working buttons, but after selecting the options or chapters menu, the buttons could not be selected. I was using Numenu version 1.0.2.

I have a problem doing NuMenu4U on Lord of the rings - Two towers. It seems to delete duplicate references to the same vob/cellid. When I play the resulting menu, the buttons dont show up when they are supposed to, they show up if I press the 'menu' button. Looking into MenuEdit I see this:
BEFORE NuMenu4U:
http://users.on.net/jahmai/TT_NuMenu_Before.jpg
AFTER NuMenu4U:
http://users.on.net/jahmai/TT_NuMenu_After.jpg
So what I get is a nicely encoded menu with no buttons.
If I use MenuEdit's "replace" feature, and replace the single 0 button cells in the "after" picture with the cells from the "before" picture that do contain buttons, the final file gets enlarged (obviously because it is replaced by non encoded video) but It also skips the 'intro' on the menu's, like where the book opens to display the menu option, or the menu transition.. I like those :)
Thanks.

NuMenu4u doesn't remove any individual cells yet, just complete Vob Id's if they are found to be unused/fake. It seems the cells weren't updated correctly. Noted.

I tried to be clever and change the CellID's of the above pictures (where there was say CellID 1 twice), so that they incremented, 1-2 with MenuEdit.
The DVD files play fine and the menu's still work, but when running NuMenu4U on modified files after encoding it just sits there.. and does nothing after BatchCCEWs is finished.
I ran it several times with the same result, then ran it again on the original unmodified files and it worked fine.
Strange? It demuxed, vobsubb'd and encoded all fine, then just decided to give up?
BTW when I click "stop" after it sits there for ages it then says CCE must be closed manually - asif its not seeing BatchCCEWs close now?

I managed to get around this by selecting the Pause before encode option, opening BatchCCEWS manually and encode all the files. Go back to NuMenu4U and click OK to continue, then very quickly open task manager and kill the BatchCCEWs that NuMenu4U opens. It then seems to recognise that the app is closed, then goes ahead with the rest of the job.

The following happened when I reencoded the menu from german r2 of Indiana Jones - Raiders Of The Lost Arc:
The menu begins with playing several scenes from the movie. During this time, the menu buttons appear and it's possible to use this buttons.
In the reencoded menu I have to wait 'til the movie sequences are over, then I'm able to use the buttons. As long as the movie sequence runs, I can't press any of the buttons
Anyone else reencoded that menu and recognized the same behaviour?

A few people have noted a couple wierd problems w/ the latest build... I had a couple where the buttons wouldn't become active till I clicked the "menu" button (someone else noted this as well)
Most of these wierd glitches appear to be problems w/ the authoring in ifoedit... - I manually reauthored my vob's in scenarist and those problems go away...

I think You should check Guides section on Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org) site ;) There are couple of guides in DVD/miniDVD section that are focused on Scenarist. This (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/doitfast-unfaithful.htm) is one of them and it does pretty good job in explaining how to author things manually.

Could you explain how to author manually in Scenarist please.
I have the same problem of some menus with non working buttons.
Thx and Happy New Year :)
Can someone please explain how to reauthor the menu with the Rejig author tool?
I think it's clear something is wrong with IfoEdit NTSC authoring, I've several problems with jerky display and missing buttoms.

Hello!
I'm having a problem with Numenu4U 1.0.2. I can't make it work. In the begining, when it says "Removing Unwanted Language Streams from xxxxxxx" it just stays there and it doesn't continue. If I go to the task manager I see that Numenu4U.exe and Menustripper2.exe are using about 50% CPU each.
And it does the same on different computers with different DVD's.....
I just can't get it to work...

I am aware of occasions when menustripper isn't working properly. For the moment, just keep all language streams

I strip the languages I don't want with IfoEdit before using NunMenu, then I make a .iso with the resulting ifo's & vob's of the menu, mount that iso and apply NunMenu.
Hope it helps

I've done this but it still doesn't work. Now it stops when it says "Demuxing VTS_XXXX", and Numenu4U is using about 99% of the CPU.

Hi,
I recently did Johnny English (JE) and there are two large menu files on the version I have. One about 350MB and one arond 700MB, så clearly I'm in need of shrink them.
My problem is that the menu is in different languages, but NuMenu4U only shows english, and that's all I get after running NuMenu4U. So the other languages is stripped.
And since it get's all messed up, the menu doesn't work correctly. When pressing a button from Main menu, to enter any submenu, the submenu only plays like a movie with all the actions you can have, and then repeats for ever.
Regards,
Ola
