View Full Version : NuMenu4U goes Final
Zeul
20th September 2003, 02:10
Finally I have finished.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed bug where filename was not being passed to IfoUpdate (in
Tools Section)
- Q Factor option setting removed – this is automatic in DoCCE4U
- Fixed issue where DoCCE4U occasionally says ‘sharing violation has
- occurred’
- IfoEdit and VobEdit issues – see below
Enhancements:
- XP style buttons now used even in WIN2000
- Toolbar now included for easier access to subpages
- Proper help file now included
- Option to enable/disable LOG file – created in install folder
- Option to auto correct AC3 delay
- AC3 delay threshold now available
- Option to specify scanning order
- Option to pause program prior to CCE encoding (with DoCCE4U) for
AVS script verification
- Option to encode as Progressive(default) or Interlaced – AVS
scripts adjusted
- Additional mpeg2dec switches (idct etc) can be added
- Mpeg2dec3.dll is now version 1.1.0 for avisynth 2.5+
- VobEdit no longer used
- Fieldorder now more accurate
- Avisynth 2.07 and 2.5+ now supported (don’t know about 2.08)
- Tested on WIN XP SP1 and WIN2000 SP4
- Subpictures automatically demuxed with vsrip and encoded into
- IfoEdit format with Sub2Sup
- Version verification of DoCCE4U (must be 1.0.1.5)
- Version verification of IfoEdit (must be 0.95 or higher)
- Reauthoring now implemented instead of remuxing
- All reauthoring carried out by IfoEdit which is freeware,
Scenarist not needed
- Reauthoring controlled by IfoEdit_Cli app which can be used as a
standalone (see help)
- Reauthored movie/extras VOBs from the ‘Big 3’ now automatically
moved to VIDEO_TS folder that contains menu files – when using
IfoUpdate tool
- Menu languages stripped by MenuStripper (a new commandline app I
have created)
- Automatic encoding of LPCM audio into AC3 with BeSweet
Installation:
- Due to the changes implemented it is necessary that all registry
settings be reset, so any alterations to the AVS scripts will need
to be done again.
Known issues:
- See help file

I'll be the first to say it: Excellent Job!!!
Just finished doing 4 menus (2 diff dvd's) and I can't tell which is reauthored version and original except by the 75% + savings in space....
my hats off to you :)

But I don't see the "donations" button on your site :D

Zeul,
Any thoughts to entering CommandLine support to one of he new versions?
Something like NuMenu <drive> <vtsmenulist> <destinationdir>
Great job... redid one of the menus that I had problems with it studdering before... smoooooooth as can be :)

@D3s7
Hadn't thought much about commandline options, but I don't see why not. If there is to be a greater integration with DIf4U then this will be a pre-requisite. As long as there are no major issues then this will be forthcoming :D
What I would like is if you guys have any LPCM audio menus then try those, and more importantly let me know if you have any mpeg audio menus as I don't.
Until one is forthcoming I can't offer support for this.
Please advise of any requests you may have. Hopefully the core program now works, so I can address user requests (see the help menu first)
My benchmark test has been with MIB PAL which has multiple menus and about a hundred cells per menu, and multiple languages. A thorough test I believe and has proved to be fully working afterwards.
My NTSC collection is rather limited so I would appreciate feedback on this.

I thought you and I had already discussed CLI options?
All: We're toying around with ideas for closer integration with DoItFast4U! One of the ideas that we're close to deciding on is to have DoItFast4U! be the UI, giving you the ability to choose with VTSes to Menu-reencode, then when you press "Do It!" my app invokes NuMenu4U via CLI parameters, which causes NuMenu4U to take care of the menus you chose to reencode, then once NuMenu4U closes, DoItFast4U will continue on with the rest of the demuxing like normal. Big changes in the pipeline, stay tuned!
Once again, great job Zeul! Keep it up!

Superb job: have been trying MIB2 [PAL] which was a pain before - v1.20 works fine.
- one request: is there any reason why this particular app can't output a TMPGenc project file [Mainconcept? - tho' this appears not to support celltimes/specific I frame insertion], as well as/rather than invoking DoCCE4U/ElcCCE?
arlsair

Gorgeus app, for sure. Thanks.
It works great, but there are two things, I want to mention:
First, the "progressiv" option in CCE is never set, also if I choose in the AVS submenu "Encode as progressiv". The CCE give better quality, when you can set the flag right.
With the current version I have to terminate CCE, change the parameter and restart CCE. So I have to control the hole process.
And second you added a option to pause the process. Thats great, but a better point to pause is, to just open DoCCE4U (no start). So I can set access all parameters, that are not avaible through NuMenu4U.

@ D3s7
Do the various message boxes actually pop up. If they don't then IfoUpdate is not being called.
@ rasta21
Didn't know that I never use the German Default language - I will remove the German DLL.
@ shoarthing
I have thought about that idea, but as you point out I frame insertion is critical so that cells line up correctly in authoring. If the I frames are, off when you jump to a sub menu (chapters for instance) the cell timestamp will be wrong. It may start playing slightly before or after the cell start - screws up the subpictures display times. If I frames can be set properly then this is a possibility. However, as NuMenu4u is a full package, I don't like the idea of stopping it half way through (which unless TMPgenc supports commandline then this would happen).
@arlsair
'The progressive flag is never set'. If you have chosen progressive encode (default) then the progressive flag will be set.
'but a better point to pause is, to just open DoCCE4U (no start)' . Wrong the point of pausing is to allow the user to open the avs scripts in WMP for verification and adjust if required. If you are not happy with the DoCCE4U settings then open the DoCCE text file and change the flags (I don't advocate this though). Don't forget that many of the ecl settings are created by DoCCE4U on opening of the text file and the avs script. If the start flag was ommitted I am not sure how DoCCE4U would respond if the avs scripts were then changed. So for now I don't like this option. However, if there are specific flags you would like more control over then I can add these options.

Got one for you Zeul.
Menu for Abyss SE
The Button over video (i'm assuming that's what it is) is coming up about 4 seconds too soon when played back in ifoedit.
If played back in other mpeg2 player like powerdvd, that 4-6 seconds is just skipped totally..
Scene is a smooth scroll around a room till it gets to two doors then the two doors are highlighted w/ words. The highlight of the doors and words pop up while still scrolling (about 4-6 seconds ahead) then snap into place at the end... in powerDVD that 4-6 seconds is just skipped over

First of all, it works fine for the most part :D
But I have the same problem like arlsair.
Here we go:
I took the german R2 of Daredevil and wanted to keep all menu languages (german & english).
I choose to encode as progressive with deinterlacing -> the progressive-checkbox hasn't been checked in DoCCE4U (ecl-file says "progressive=0").
Then I set in NuMenu4U to encode as interlaced and I also set to autodetermine whether Alternate Scan is needed (which should be the case 'cause filenames state that the streams are interlaced).
Now what happened was, that it checked "progressive" in DoCCE4U (the streams are named as interlaced!) and Alternate Scan remained unchecked

Hello, I have been trying to use NuMenu4U on these dvds:
Johnny English NTSC r4
Minority Report NTSC r4
-they were bought on a trip to latinamerica.....
however on both, when I begin doing the CCE compression, I get a million errors, I want the menus to be compressed, but do not lose quality, so I changed to 4 passes and a max bitrate of 2000 (min. 500)
on minority report, I get an error after its almost done and immediately starts encoding the next one; whilst on Johnny English, I receive a major error on CCE and it says it has to close.
What should I do?, the minority report dvd menu is about 1 gb for video_ts_0.vob (or something like that) and on video_ts.vob is about 300 Mb.
The other one has on video_ts.vob 818Mb (johnny english)
Thank you
Zeul
26th September 2003, 16:52
This sounds like a corrupt video stream. It can't be the avs script because that would cause an error immediately. As a test I would try splitting the vob with vobedit into each vobid, run dvd2avi on one of them, write the avs script and then load into cce or docce and try encoding, and see what happens. Could also try re-ripping with dvddec but enable 'detect mastering errors' to see if anything crops up.
Have you played the original discs in a set-top?

But.....I have another question....
I have this flipper disc, which I want to take both sides into 1 side, where theres a menu in which i can pick which side i want to see, after choosing which side, I would like to be able to use the menus and all the extras shown in the original one, is this possible?
which and how do I edit this info on ifoedit so it works? I dont want to recreate the original menu, but just add a new one before both menus.
thanks

Great. So I don`t have to clean my glasses :D ;)
One little question:
Your IfoUpdate Tool copies the Scenarist folder to the DIF4U/NuMenu4U folder. Is it not "better" to copy the data the other way, because it goes faster (DIF4U/NuMenu4U folder is smaller than the Scenarist folder) and Scenarist already create an empty AUDIO_TS folder (so I can instantly make an image to burn) ?
Regards
Arlsair
Zeul

@ arlsair
the files from scenarist are not copied to the VIDEO_TS folder they are moved - which has virtually no time. It is better to analyse the Scenarist folder because it is immediately apparent from the vts sizes which titles have been re-authored and which are dummy tracks (ie the originals are still in the VIDEO_TS folder).
I am toying with the idea of adding a facility to automatically create an image on completion of ifoupdate.

Not when you have two harddrives to speed up muxing.
But when it is better to analyse the Scenarist folder, I`m happy.

I have trouble here :( Just used your tool in combination with DIF4U and Reauthorist to backup Metropolis PAL. Easy DVD with menues (1.45Gb of them!) and just the movie. No extras, no nothing else.
Menues get compressed down to 560Mb and look ok. Then DIF4U and Reauthorist do a pretty nice job. I integrate everything together and voila! A nice copy. I can play it without problems... except that I want to go back to the root menu during playback, my player hangs.
Playing in IfoEdit happens the same, but when I told it to play the title menu, it goes to the chapters menu. If I tell it to go to other menu, it hangs. So i guess there's something wrong with menu addresses... any hint on what to do?
NuMenu4U has compressed both VIDEO_TS.VOB and VTS_01_0.VOB and created new ifos and bups. If I copy back the originals and do the ifoupdate then the problem is solved, but of course I can not use the originals since they too much space :)
Thanks...

sounds like the ifo has not been updated correctly. I am aware of an occasional issue that caused this which has now been fixed. As to what you can do with your menu now:(apart from starting again)
determine which vob id and cell id is your main menu. open the vob in vobedit and goto the start of this cell. write down the LBA that is shown(this is your start sector). now goto the the very last pack of this cell and write down the LBA that is shown(this is your end sector). You also need to go back to the very last NAV pack and write this LBA down (this is your last VOBU sector) now search the ifo for any references to this vob/cell id under VTSM_PGCI_UT table and VTSM_C_ADT table and alter the start, last vobu and end sectors that you have just written down.
that should cure it - sorry it is a bit complicated.

Well I started the NuMenu4U procedure all over again with different CCE settings and still the same result. Looks like the problem is there and shows up at least with this DVD title :( BTW I'm using latest release 1.2.1...

definately not!
30 mins tops.
if the last thing written in the info box is : processing idx then do this:
I am aware of an issue when the subtitles are not processed, and the sub2sup cli hangs. This has now been resolved in the next release, day or so. For now you will have top stop the process in task manager. just closing the screen will NOT stop the process. Sorry about this, but as i say it is now fixed. If you stop NuMenu4u, again by process, and restart it will probably work fine.
You could try opening Sub2Sup (in the subtitles folder) yourself. If the cli is waiting for this application to start (which it sounds like) then on opening everything will continue. I would try this first.
if the last thing in the info box is: judging field order then close the program by process in task manager.

When running Nm4u v1.2.1 it scans the vobs and splits them, then doesnt encode anything because the Docce4u.txt contains on this line ";Version 1.0.1.5" and when I choose the option pause before encode I notice that there are no d2v files, no avs files. Uhh... don't want to look as if I was pressing anybody, but I was wondering about the date of release of the next version of NuMenu4U. I read in this thread few days ago that it was going to be released in a day or so, but didn't see any update, and from wjat Zeul says, it has bugfixes I am interested in. Oh well, I can wait :) I was simply curious...
And please do not reply saying smart things such as 'soon','you'll see it when it is released' or similar. I already know that... :D

i guess we could reply saying 'dumb' things like 'when it's ready' or 'when it's felt that it's stable enough for another version because there's a ntsc issue zeul has just today discovered a fix for' or even 'we're getting ready for a final so it might take a while'. But in reality, I'd opt for the 'smart' comment and say 'soon' and 'when it's released' and similar :sly:
Considering that Zeul told me today he hasn't received ONE donation, I'd say no one really has the right to press anything.

Good. I won't say smart things neither. And no, I tried to make clear that I was not pushing anybody in any direction, I was just curious. Nothing else...

New version out today - hoping to be a release candidate. For change log as follows:
Change log:
Bug fixes:
'Fixed issue when the cells weren't always put in the correct order
'Progressive / interlaced flags now correct
'Fixed a problem with frame stills (commonly chapter stills)
----> at the moment I haven't found a way to accurately reauthor a
stilll frame with the sub picture in the correct place (don't know
whether this is a vsrip issue or ifoedit yet). So as a workaround
any vobid that has 0.12 cells (PAL)or 0.15 cells (NTSC) is left
alone and reintegrated into the VOB. (but commonly this type of vob
id has 50+ cells and total size less that 10MB, so not much of a
problem)
'Fixed issue when a cell is listed in VTSM_C_ADT and is in the VOB
stream, but is never called, ie it isn't listed in VTSM_PGCI_UT -
this was causing synch errors - and although rare was an annoyance
'Fixed issue when occasionally sub2sup_cli would loop endlessly
without processing
'Fixed issue where not every NAV pack in the VOB was updated
'Infinifilm should now work
Enhancements:
'When running IfoUpdate facility to autodetect Restricted Cells
caused by Scenarist. The cells will be chnaged IF the original does
not have a Restricted cell
'Facility to auto create a DVD image on completion of IfoUpdate
'If foldername has non-standard letters (eg å,ä,ö) they will
automatically be replaced
----> this allows greater compatability with applications used -
thanks to Ripe73
'Support for Avisynth 2.08 now added
'Sub2sup lang_de.dll now removed from install - thanks to rasta21
for this
'Facility to use the new dvd2avi and mpeg2dec3 added (remember these
are still BETA)
'Have now added support for all languages available - full DVD spec
'ConvertToYUY2() has been replaced by ConvertToYUY2(interlaced=true)
for 2.5+
'Auto detection if avisynth version changed
'Multiple audio streams in menus now supported
GUI:
'Removed menu bar - not necessary now with all the buttons - just
left contact
'Choice of dvd2avi cannot be saved to the registry - user makes the
choice every time
----> I will automatically use the new dvd2avi when a good stable
version is available
'The save button in button bar is now used for save all settings
instead of output location
'All buttons are now disabled when NuMenu4u is running
Known Issues:
There is still no reliable way to stop the message boxes popping up during IfoUpdate. This is a bug with IfoUpdate when run from commandline

hy, i dont seem to get it, using rc1 and the older versions, it builds up a directory tree, doing stuff in frameserve-dir and recoding with cce and doing the subs and hanging in the cli-loop (even with rc1, i have to kill the cmd-window) and then it finishes, deletes its directory tree, leaving a video_ts folder with the menu ifo´s, bup´s and vob´s but they are the original files with original dates and sizes, starts up dif4u and saying "thank you for using numenu4u"... what am i doing wrong? thanks!

Me too...:(
It worked great when I first installed it. Then I used it to reencode my menu. It opened DIF4U & I stripped like normal and rencoded movie using DoCCE4U and ReAuth. When I finished my reencoding, I started it back up to use IfoUpdate, and got the error.
The program wouldn't open after getting the element error.

I get the same ahem... "feature"...
I was installing NuMenu4U RC1 from scratch on a new install of Windows XP, I get the error "Element Not Found" run-time error 35601.
It shows in the log:
Drive E, F, G does not have a valid structure
DoCCE4U v1.0.1.5 detected
Avisynth v.2.5.2.0 detected
Thanks and look forward to using your excellent program again!!

Hi,
Your soft seems to be really interesting, but here (in France) we have some problems with NUmenu4u (I'm not the only one who has the problem).
The DoCCE4u.txt file is empty, and dvd2avi doesn't produce the .d2v files...So Docce4u is running for fews seconds and then stops.
Do you have an answer for us?
Thank You;)
PS:Almost forgot:
I tried it on windows Xp pro with avisynth 2.5 and CCE 2.67, and then with avisynth 2.08 and cce2.5.

@ Everybody
I have just got back from a small vacation and found that I have accidently uploaded a test version - hence the errors. Apologies to all. The correct version has been uploaded. Whilst doing this I have rewritten the dvd2avi and docce text procedure. Hopefully this will correct the issue (which I have never had) where no d2v or avs scripts were being written.

I'm having problems with NuMenu4U. It's the first time I'm trying it, and I'm using the latest version.
I've already try it with 2 different DVD's on 2 different computers, both with WinXP, one with SP1, and the other without it.
NuMenu4U gets to a point when it just stops. I go to the Task Manager, and it says NUMenu4U is executing, and IFOEdit_Author_Cli is not responding, and NUMenu4U is using almost 100% CPU power.
Can anybody help me? I would really want to use NUMenu4U, because it looks one great piece of software, but I' me begining to get a little frustrated..

I'm still having problems. When it gets to the point where IFOEdit_Author_Cli stopped responding now appears a window minimized (the same window that appears if you double click the file IFOEdit_Author_Cli.exe).
I click on the OK button, and the process continues, and it finishes successfully, but then I go to the folder where the files are, and they are the same size of the original menus.

A small bug report.
Using Saving Private Ryan DVD R2
ISO with DVDDecrypter 3.1.5.0
Mounted with Daemon tools 3.41
Menu squashed with NuMenu4U RC2
Original VTS_01_0.VOB 389MB - new one 30MB
But the menu doesn't work. Clicking on any button runs the movie.
Looking in Vobrator there are 131 VOB-IDs in the original VOB file
(listed 1-131) whereas in the new VOB file there is 1 then 25-131 then
2. (2 is the main menu, 1 is an copyright intro, 25-131 are cast stills
etc..) Why is NuMenu cutting out VOBIDs 3-24, as they contain the
menu transitions etc....
THanks

Hi Zeul,
I have two computer,an Athlon 1,2 GHz with WinXP, and a Pentium IV WinXP SP1 I use for reencoding.
Unfortunately IfoEdit_Cli just hangs in my PIV machine using 99% of CPU, so I have to do the compression in my slow machine. :(
Is the problem related to SP1 ? Is there a ETA for the fix?
Good work you've done, by the way

@everybody
NuMenu4u RC3 has now been released. Main fixes are better error handling, better stability of the cli controls and commandline options now available for the main program in readiness for integration with DIF4U.
I am expecting this to be the final release before the next stage which will be authoring at commandline, and no more use of either sub2sup or ifoedit.

To coincide with the latest release of DIF4U, NuMenu4U RC4 is now available. Only this version can be controlled properly by DIF4U. There are a couple of changes:
>Option to pre-determine your default language stream [if available]
>No longer any need to specify location of ImageTool in the tools section
>Better code handling to improve the speed of judging Field Order
>A couple of bug fixes
>Some changes to how MenuStripper works
For the moment that is all I can think of.
If there are any issues please direct them direct to me numenu4u@btinternet.com

RC3 worked fine on one of my dvds menus, nice work.
Just wondering, what bitrate do you guys use to get a good quality menu. What avg. and max.. and how meny pass' ?
influenza
14th November 2003, 14:07
If you're gonna use the new dif4u which is fully integrated with numenu the bitrate will be used that you set there for the extras. Also the number of passes that are specified in dif4u will be used.
This is also what I can recommend: bitrate around 2000 and 4 passes or so.
If you're gonna use dif4u and numenu together (integrated) make sure you set the right encoding mode (progressive/interlaced etc) under other options in dif4u.

if you're stuck at the sub2sup step, make sure sub2sup is set to english and everything will work fine (maybe that helps someone)

Na i wasn't using it fully integrated, so 2000 for the avg and what, say about 9000 for max ?
I just installed RC4 and CCE got to about the 21st file it had to encode and it had just stopped , wasn't moving.
influenza
14th November 2003, 17:10
Max depends on the bitrate of the audio ofcourse, but with 9000 you'll be safe. Setting a bitrate around 2000 will mostly result in a 50% reduction.
Don't know why encoding stopped. i mess the process up myself regularly by killing one of the popups, but with encoding this is different ofcourse.

Just curious as if to anyone has tryed resizing the menus ?
Im gonna give it a bash a add " BicubicResize(352,576) " to the avs editor under normal for pal. 352 x 576 if it works should resize the menu to the same as a CVD, as this res is in the dvd standards.
I'll report back see what i find.
OK, i added BicubicResize(352,576)to the avs under normal, but when numenu has finished and it gets to docce4u and cce starts up i get some checksum error crap, something about number of pass' being different, i thought the script may be wrong or messed, so i opened one of the avs' that had BicubicResize(352,576)in it in virtual dub and it ok fine, i then loaded one of these avs' into cce manually and it started to encode and work fine, i only get that error if i let numenu do its thing, then let docce4u startup then when cce starts to go i get the error.
Any ideas as i would like to try resizing the menu to CVD standards as at a lower bitrate i should get better quality, then i would with full dvd res. Then quality should be higher than vcd and about the same as a hight quality svcd.
OK the error says ....
cce encoding failed : error : video check-sum is different from that of previous pass.
Source video data or time code may be different
please check video tape of information file
-- information --
current: check-sum 00000000
previous: check-sum 004d2e6d
As i say the script works as i can load it manually and it opens in VD

I'm having problems with RC4. After it completes, NuMenu4u opens around 20 instances of IfoEdit. It doesn't seem to compress the VOB's either. The files in VIDEO_TS folder are all identical in size to the ones on the DVD. I used the DOitfast4u integration method and followed the instructions exactly. Does anyone know what's wrong, and why NuMenu4u opens IfoEdit so many times?

Can you be more specific, what is written in the IfoEdit title bar? Is it IfoEdit v*** or IfoEdit Zeul.

NuMenu4u has now gone final - 1.0.0
Auto detection of fake VOB's is now implemented (via AUX menu).
A major issue with MenuStripper has now been resolved.
Fixed some small bugs
I have slowed IfoEdit down, for sending the filenames in the re-author stage. This is to allow IfoEdit to process each file properly. This is really for the slower machines.
A proper guide for useage and implementation with the BIG 3 will follow soon.

Congratulations to Couvdvd and Andy for the first bugs.
A BatchCCEWS detection bug has been fixed.
Code change to take account of all the latest Avisynth releases.
There may be some confusion over whether you feel NuMenu4u has worked for you. If you have selected to Auto Detect Dummy Vobs (under AUX Settings) then it is quite likely that no encoding will be done at all (ie CCE never called) and your resltant file size will be only a few Megs. The whole process could be over in just a few minutes. Basically if there is large Vob id that is never used it is a fake, and what is the point of keeping such a file - it just wastes space. So this Vob id will be replaced with one of a few KB in size. For example take the Lion King (R2) the Video_TS.VOB is 636MB in size, and all but the first Id are fakes. The new Video_TS.VOB after processing with NuMenu4u is only 800KB in size. Thats 635MB of space saved without any encoding.

I've just finished ripping gladiator PAL, and found that the numenu v1.0.1 gives me bad menus. You should get about 10 seconds of video followed by some buttons. When i click the subtitles button eg, i get thrown into the chapter selection, only I can't select any chapters, it looks like it's just playing the video of the chapter menu. and after about 10 more seconds, suddenly the audio menu starts playing all by itself.
I re-did the menu with several settings such as not doing the auto-detect dummy vob's, but no matter what, I always get this problem.
I re-installed RC4, and that one gives no problems. (though it occasionally crashes while using ifoedit, but the previous rc's also had that...)
Any ideas what's changed in the final version that can explain this?

...i think there is a bug in the ifoedit mux app...maybe you should check if the ifoedit app can handle very small files or delay or whatever. numenu very often crash at the mux point ("ifoedit had to be closed" windows error)

NuMenu4U 1.0.2 now available.
All file sizes are now handled
Fixed issue where the IFO would on occasion not be updated correctly
It was reported that the checkboxes sometimes did not show on the UI - resolved
FilipeAmadeuO - you are correct. I have finally been able to replicate this. Code has been changed and no longer occurs
Rasta21 - I have verified that IfoUpdate is handling small files.

Hi, thought I better mention this as it might help with the development. Ran into a bit of a problem. Working on Star-Wars Phantom Menace. The main movie menu vob is fairly large (817 meg) so I wanted to try encoding it. The app ran smooth, no problems until the entire project was done.
The disk would load properly, but if I choose a menu say options (they all behaved the same) I could select once on the menu (say turn on english subs) and then I would lose the menu selection highlight and could not select anything else. This was strangly consistant in that no matter what you selected it would disappear. You would not get it back unless you eject the disk and start over. By the way this is region 1 disk if it matters.
I would assume the exact same behaviour on Attack of the Clones as the mastering for both movies is almost identical.
Anyone else seeing something like this??
I should clarify this was with version 1.0.0

@ trigger638
I think this has a lot to do with the menu size and the way I was handling the button table transfer. 1.0.2 handles the transfer differently, so I would be interested to know if there is any difference. You can check the menu only on completion of NuMenu4u by opening the VIDEO_TS folder in WINDVD. If a titleset is to be played (pressing PLAY for example) then WINDVD will freeze but if you are testing button selection then it will run good.

Well I use power dvd. Let me explain, I compile a film complete. When its all done, I will load video_ts.ifo as a file in the player and run through the entire film checking for problems. Funny thing is that the menu behaved properly while playing around with it in power dvd. It was not until I burned the image and played it on my sony that things went wrong. I am very carefull when I burn a master, I burn at 1x and run exhaustive tests to be sure everything is correct.
I am certain that this was not a burn related error. But again it was not evident during playback on the software player. Again the menu cut scenes and things of that nature ran perfectly, heck it even ran the random cut scenes proper. Just the select buttons were borked.
I will attempt a run with the newest version as soon as I get time to see if it addresses the problem. I will post results here as soon as I have them.

@trigger638 that is a very strange situation. PowerDVD is known for being the least forgiving of any software player. If there is a problem PowerDVD will pick it up. It almost sounds like a command error either within the IFO or in the VOB itself.
@Trott I did alter the way the IFO was written and have found that there was an error with it. Latest version addresses this problem.

First, thanx for writing this handy program, i've used it several times now.
But I think i've found a bug in numenu4u 1.0.2 (I didn't take the time to read back the whole thread, so maybe it's an "old" bug)
I have a menu, of which the first vobid contains 2 cells. The first cell has no buttons (it's an intro to the menu), and the second cell has 3 buttons.
When numenu4u is finished, that particular vobid has only 1 cell, with no buttons.
Somehow when recreating the vob, numenu4u looks at vobid1-cellid1, and sees no buttons, so he recreates that vob also without buttons. (and with only 1 cell)
I think numenu should have processed this menu (or atleast this vobid) by cell-id.
So I ended up remuxing the m2v into the original vobid in the oldfashioned way with vobedit and ifoedit.

I just found another vobid with multiple cells in my menu.
It seems that it's not the multiple cells, thats causing the trouble but the multiple cells, with the same cell-id. (so probably it's a vob, where the subpicture doesn't start @ 0)
I examined the vobs with menuedit (by dimad):
vobid1: cellid:1(0 buttons) & cellid:1 (3 buttons)
becomes cellid:1(0 buttons)
AND
vobid30: cellid:1(0 buttons) & cellid:1 (2 buttons) & cellid:2 (2 buttons)
becomes cellid:1(0 buttons) & cellid:2 (2 buttons)
Hope it helpes

hmm the only way that could happen would be if ifoedit didn't reauthor the vob properly, or if the cell data txt wasn't passed to ifoedit. have you run it just once or tried a couple of times?
Zeul
edit:
so you have a vob file that has several cells with different menu structures but the same id. Thats a new one on me.
DrChair
2nd December 2003, 13:21
Well, i've seen them many times...
They are just like normal vobs, only the (forced)subpicture, and thus the buttons start a few seconds later than the video.
So the first part of a cell has no buttons, and the second part does.
If you want it, i can put up a sample online somewere.
Greetz DrChair
btw i've also seen menuvobs were only the middlepart has buttons, but the first and last don't

i've also seen menuvobs were only the middlepart has buttons, but the first and last don't Must be a really "bad" case. :)
But having segments with different amount of buttons in the same cell - is quite typical. Many MenuEdit users confirmed this.

I have a problem doing NuMenu4U on Lord of the rings - Two towers. It seems to delete duplicate references to the same vob/cellid. When I play the resulting menu, the buttons dont show up when they are supposed to, they show up if I press the 'menu' button. Looking into MenuEdit I see this:
BEFORE NuMenu4U:
http://users.on.net/jahmai/TT_NuMenu_Before.jpg
AFTER NuMenu4U:
http://users.on.net/jahmai/TT_NuMenu_After.jpg
So what I get is a nicely encoded menu with no buttons.
If I use MenuEdit's "replace" feature, and replace the single 0 button cells in the "after" picture with the cells from the "before" picture that do contain buttons, the final file gets enlarged (obviously because it is replaced by non encoded video) but It also skips the 'intro' on the menu's, like where the book opens to display the menu option, or the menu transition.. I like those :)
Thanks.

NuMenu4u doesn't remove any individual cells yet, just complete Vob Id's if they are found to be unused/fake. It seems the cells weren't updated correctly. Noted.

I tried to be clever and change the CellID's of the above pictures (where there was say CellID 1 twice), so that they incremented, 1-2 with MenuEdit.
The DVD files play fine and the menu's still work, but when running NuMenu4U on modified files after encoding it just sits there.. and does nothing after BatchCCEWs is finished.
I ran it several times with the same result, then ran it again on the original unmodified files and it worked fine.
Strange? It demuxed, vobsubb'd and encoded all fine, then just decided to give up?
BTW when I click "stop" after it sits there for ages it then says CCE must be closed manually - asif its not seeing BatchCCEWs close now?
Jahmai.

I managed to get around this by selecting the Pause before encode option, opening BatchCCEWS manually and encode all the files. Go back to NuMenu4U and click OK to continue, then very quickly open task manager and kill the BatchCCEWs that NuMenu4U opens. It then seems to recognise that the app is closed, then goes ahead with the rest of the job.

The following happened when I reencoded the menu from german r2 of Indiana Jones - Raiders Of The Lost Arc:
The menu begins with playing several scenes from the movie. During this time, the menu buttons appear and it's possible to use this buttons.
In the reencoded menu I have to wait 'til the movie sequences are over, then I'm able to use the buttons. As long as the movie sequence runs, I can't press any of the buttons
Anyone else reencoded that menu and recognized the same behaviour?

I think You should check Guides section on Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org) site ;) There are couple of guides in DVD/miniDVD section that are focused on Scenarist. This (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/doitfast-unfaithful.htm) is one of them and it does pretty good job in explaining how to author things manually.

I strip the languages I don't want with IfoEdit before using NunMenu, then I make a .iso with the resulting ifo's & vob's of the menu, mount that iso and apply NunMenu.
Hope it helps

Hi,
I recently did Johnny English (JE) and there are two large menu files on the version I have. One about 350MB and one arond 700MB, så clearly I'm in need of shrink them.
My problem is that the menu is in different languages, but NuMenu4U only shows english, and that's all I get after running NuMenu4U. So the other languages is stripped.
And since it get's all messed up, the menu doesn't work correctly. When pressing a button from Main menu, to enter any submenu, the submenu only plays like a movie with all the actions you can have, and then repeats for ever.
Regards,
Ola

any idea when i new build is to be released? There look to many improvements.
I believe i emailed Zeul one of my problems. NuMenu starts to run, and then its gets to subtitle processing. It stops at "Processing IDX file" and then says Failure, and tries again. I look in the Task Manager and there are quite a few SubtoSup processes running.
It doesn't happen all the time, just on some. Next time it happens, I'll be sure to post the log file.

Hello guys, I have got a problem with Numenu4u using it or not with DoItFast4U. With doitfast4u, the CCE encoding systematically crashes during "the second frameserver". And if I try manually from Numenu4U, that does the same thing : The CCE Status window don't display anythin about time left, time remaining, speed etc... and my CPU is overburned!
How could I fix that ?

sounds more like an issue w/ CCE to me...
try checking the "keep temporary files" option in numenu, run it once - that willd emux your files.
THen after it bombs, try manually running docce4u or batchcce (which ever your using) - see what that does.
however, if your overclocking yoru CPU that could be most of the issue

Ok, I have unchecked the option "Delete temporary files" and retry to compress my menus but that still freezes. After it bombs, I have relaunched one more time DoCCE4 and the program shows me some job in waiting queue... Must I try to relaunch it from there ?
(My computer is not overclocked at all ;) )

Hum, sorry for my approximative english :scared:. I wanted to say "My cpu is extremely busy" so in my ressource window's manager (Windows XP pro) my CPU is at 100% by cctsp.exe (the executable of CCE).

Hum because the window doesn't response and that many times the display (as I told before) don't display speed etc... just the string name (speed : (nothing) time remaining : (nothing))and sometimes, the compression begins but stops at 496kb and rest to 1% and not change...
Usually, when CCE is okay, your IDE led is constantly lighting and here I got nothing.

Hum well, yesterday I have deleted Docce4u and installed Batchccews and upgraded my CCE (2.50.01 to 2.67.00.23) and it seems to go very well. Some times, one of the job crashes as well but I have just to stop it in batchccews and stop CCE and then I can reload the job and it's OK, I have tested it this morning, it seems that the programs aren't completely stable but that works now.

Hello. Great soft, I did several menus using NuMenu, but I have problems with one. I did Abyss SE, and the menu is 16:9 Pan&Scan. NuMenu did everything OK, on PC (in WinDVD Platinium) everything looked OK, but on my 4:3 TV the reauthored menu was squeezed. It was not Pan&Scan, but all the 16:9 picture in 4:3 format. The subpictures was not changed, so they didn't fit the image.
I saw you discussed about the Abyss menu problems with D3s7. But I don't know what was the solution. I downloaded newest version, but it's the same.

I still have a problem with the setting of the progressive frame flag: When running NuMenu4U only (without DoItFast4U), the flag is set correctly, but when using NuMenu4U integrated with DoItFast4U, the progressive frame flag is not set, although it is selected and content is progressive; I am working on a PAL project.
Anyone already encountered this and has any hints?

When I try to keep only a LU from menu a message box appear showing "not correct parameter for MenuStripper".
This is a tool of yours , isn't it?
What does this message mean?
Is there a workaround?
What can I do (not only to protect myself against the flu , but to protect myself against this message too)?
If I was able to send attachments I'd send a SS of the error!

D3s7, you did the Abyss, didn't you? Any problems with the aspect ratio of reauthored menu? I mean on 4:3 TV, if you have 16:9 you never notice. Please, any help welcome.

I get that same problem and using VBR instead of Roba 'fixes' that for me. But that means I can't use the NuMenu implementation in DIF4U because it uses Roba by default. I'm just waiting for the new Scenarist version of NuMenu that I've been hearing about.

there's a little bug i found and a workaround too!
I tried (only for testing) to recompress a Menu Vob with Half D1 resolution(352*576).
The first time I got BCCE4U compressing only 1-frame long streams.
I tried to guess why and I found the AVSs ok then I took a look into docce4u.txt file in frameserving dir and I found it had last frame value=1 , then I corrected it and all worked correctly.
I'm a PAL user , the DVD was "ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA" , using DVD2AVIdg , forcing Deinterlacing , script for deinterlacing was LoadPlugin("C:\Programmi\DoItFast4U\new.avs\decomb.dll")
Telecide(blend=false)
HorizontalReduceBy2()
Crop(4,0,352,576)
After all that all worked fine , also in standalone.
I use cce One pass VBR only with Q=40(it seems to keep good quality and is very fast) and I use to exec Numenu4u before starting D4U.
Is this a good reason to add me to your VIP list?
Thx you anyway.
I hope to see (and test) the new version soon.

To my 16:9 Pan-Scan problem: Since author didn't react, I just want to inform others how I solve this. I suppose it is due to parameters for BatchCCEWS or DoCCE4U.
Menu is in 16:9 Pan-Scan, but film in 4:3. In CCEData.txt file for BatchCCEWS there is on position Aspect Ratio -1 (Auto select). Menu is then encoded as 4:3 and in standalone it is not pan-scan, but 4:3
After change of parameter to 1 (16:9), it was encoded like 16:9, all went OK, on standalone it's OK also (16:9 pan-scan).
To TuRiSOft: Good tip, this reencoding in 1/2 resolution.

OK I spoke too soon. I just backed up Pulp Fiction Special Edition (R1) and used NuMenu on the menus using VBR. I thought everything was fine as I previewed the final product on my PC. But after burning it, the menu appears stretched and all of the button highlights are off target when I play it on my standalone (and I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with my standalone or any of the ratio settings associated with it). The menu is 16:9 and my TV is 4:3. Is there anyway to correct this without re-encoding the menus?

OK, just a couple of quick question about numenu and the fake vob thing. The video_ts.vob on lion king 3 is 600mb, but all thats in it is 20 mins or so of a black screen.
Now numenu does'nt detect any fakes on this , but where the screen is just black it drops it down to about 50mb.All i wanna know is, does this mean all the ids in this are called up at some time or another when playing back.
Also what is a good avg and max bitrate to use, because if i use avg 3000, and a max of 8000, the menu does'nt drop much in size, only about 50mb.

1st April 2004, 14:13
Numenu doesn't detect any fakes? Strange, because lion king was the title that started the detection of fakes to begin with. I remember my video_ts.vob came down to 25 MB or so after using numenu.
Zeul
1st April 2004, 14:18
@EonBlue
that sounds like an incorrect association of stream id's within either the vob or ifo. (probably an ifoedit problem). so for example the buttons are being displayed that should be associated with widescreen mode, even on a 4:3 TV which should be pan-scan button setting.
@MasterYoda
Have just done this vob with the scenarist version and it came down to <1MB
This will not now be an issue with the scenarist version now in VIP testing

The fake detection works, as it dropped the video_ts.vob of ned kelly down from 995mb to 466kb.Just on lion king 3 theres just a black screen in the video_ts.vob, but it did'nt see anything fake, it re-encoded the black screen down to 50mb.
Now the re-encoding part does'nt bother me, except that i dont wanna run 6 pass' on a black screen, so i would have to do the black screen at 1 pass, then re-open nemenu and do the main menu separate at 6 pass'.

@MasterYoda
The only ways that I know of to check for a dummy VOB are:
1) if the vobid doesn't appear in any PGC
2) if the PGC has no command table (ie no pre/post/cell commands). This PGC can never return if called therefore it will never be called in the first place. In this instance any VOBs that are in this PGC but NOT in any other will be stripped.
If neither of these 2 instances are fullfilled then I can't think of any other way to determine that a VOB is false, except for analysing each and every command inc button commands across every VTS to see if this particular PGC is ever called.
Any other suggestions welcomed

Am I mistaking here or doesn't numenu detect the black video on lion king? Because I remember reporting that to zeul (I was also tired of watching it encode black video) and Zeul fixing it.
Edit: oops I see now: lion king 3. Did that tonight, but I let it run on itself, so I really wouldn't know if it detected it correctly.

So what do u guys use for your max and avg bitrates ???
As i used a avg of 3000 and a max of 8000.This didnt drop the size much, only about 50mb smaller. Then i looked at the original menu with bitrate viewer, there i saw the avg on the original was about 3100.So i guess it also depends on the avg of the original. With that avg i would need to use a avg half of that to half the size of the menu.

It depends on the menu. Some menus are extreme wastes of space, using 4000kbps for practically still shots. You can take these down to 1000kpbs and they look good. Others are fine the way they are.
As a general rule I start at 1800kbps and adjust it from there, depending on how active the menus are. If your really anal you can stop BatchCCE and tweak the cells individually. I find that the main menu is often more active than the scene/audio/sub menus.
It would be sweet if NuMenu could use a 'dynamic bit distribution' similiar to what Jdobbs is doing in DVD-RB. The original Cell is analyised and it's bitrate compared to the rest of the video, the new bitrate is then scaled to the original ratio. This would actually be fairly easy to do, even by hand, with NuMenu since you have the length of each cell (in BatchCCE's file) and the size of the demuxed .mpv file for each cell.
Master Yoda
4th April 2004, 13:20
OK, but what about the max bitrate ??
Cause if thats also lower that would decrease the file size a bit aswell right ?
arlsair
5th April 2004, 08:30
No.
You just get a stream with a more constant bitrate instead of more peaks.
This is contraproduktiv for the quality as you don`t allow the encoder to encode the video as he thinks it is best.
So the Max. Bitrate should be as high as possible.

Is there a free version to be released soon? NuMenu4U v1.0.2 doesn't work w/ my PC (hangs after demuxing). I'm willing to donate to get a new version but I'd like to know if it'll work for me first.
These LOTR SEE disks use extremely large menus (e.g. LOTR TT SEE ~950MB) :( . If I don't process the menus I'll have to choose between loosing some audio streams or crappy bitrate...
