well, until about a week ago matroska wasn't noobie-proof :sly: ; now we have full working dshow filters, and a 'matroska q&a' thread appeared just in time :p
i think we couldn't ask for more to develepers :D

I'm sure some people will want more.
And we still have more to give ;)

Sorry to interrupt the subtitle-happiness, but i'd like to draw attention back to jerky playback: My mkv with vorbis played back fine with the mkxds.dll that came with CoreVorbis. Since this mkxds.dll seems to be unable to play mkv-file muxed with the 10/06/03 vdubmod, I downloaded the 0.4.3 mkxds.dll and registered it, and now my movies play jerky again!
Btw. it doesn't matter if the mkvs are muxed with old or new vdubmod, the play jerky.
I created a 245kb 3s clip that shows it very obvios, I can mail it to everyone interested.

Same thing here...

@ robUx4, Gabest

Did you read ffrom's post?

Copy .dll to your system or system32 folder and register it with regsvr32. It's replacement for DVobSub . Actualy it is DVobSub,Avisynth filter,VDub filter. I've just test it with new MatroskaSplitter (from Gabest ofcourse) and it works with MPC6.4.5.4 without any problems except it shows square at the end of first line if sub have to lines of text. I don't know is it problem with DVobSub or VDubMod when I created mkv (UTF8).

I have the same problem. It doesn't matter if these matroska files are created by VDM or mkvmerge. There's always a square at the end of the first line when there are two lines displayed.
I use latest MatroskaSplitter for playback.

EDIT: This also occurs with latest mkxds.dll

Not here anymore! If you read on after my first post Toff and Christian suggested to get the latest CoreVorbis-Decoder, and with that the jerkiness is gone. If you use an older version OggDS is used for Ogg-Playback, and that's the reason for stuttering playback.

without any problems except it shows square at the end of first line if sub have to lines of text. I have also this side effect like Assault & ffrom when the subtitles are displayed.

used VDMod prerelease(CVS_20030611.zip) for muxing.
MatroskaSplitter 1.0.0.8
VSFilter 2.25
source:1 Xvid Video/2 Ogg Audio/3 .srt subtitles
WinXPPro

can't say it too often...thanks for your great support & work!

It seems that the pb is this VSFilter...
Maybe Gabest will be able to investigate more. But it's hard to tell if the filter is done by someone else...

Does it support UTF-8 ?

See above. What Vorbis filter are you using? Install the latest CoreVorbis filter and use GraphEdit to see what filter is being used for playback.

This applies to anyone using Vorbis audio and is getting jerky playback.

I guess that to. As I can remember UTF-8 support is new in latest VSFilter so that could be the problem. I'm still waiting for Gabest to say something about that (of course if he feels the need to answer that ;) ).

I installed the shell extensioin (http://matroska.sourceforge.net/downloads/MatroskaProp.v1.1.zip) and now aspect ratios are not used when playing back MKV's. I uninstalled the extension to no avail. I tried reinstalling (separately) [Edit: the latest versions of] Gabest's and the libmatroska version of the filter. Eeep. How could that even affect it?

   !!!

Now that is severe ! What Dshow filter are you using, Gabest' or ours ? Are you using MPC, or another player ? What will happen if you use TCMP with the CDL plugin ( you have to deactivate 'use overlay mixer' in ffdshow or it will crash ) ?

Sorry about that

Oh wait, that's it. I had disabled the overlay mixer in ffdshow (since somewhere it said it was not a good idea). Enabling it again fixed it. Thanks!! Correlation without causation!
