wow, your fast with the captures and web post. I compared and the only differences in my settings and yours are the above mentioned BruteForece/IO Key exchange and I don't have "Include PGC Number and Include Angle Number" in the File Names section.

Okay it crashed again. 93% of Title set 3 (1.37 GB of 1.48GB), and 79% of the total.

Erorr is "MultiCopy has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I the reporting details, under Error signature is has "AppName: multicopy.exe AppVer: 7.0.0.91 ModName: vobtrans.ax
ModVer: 1.0.0.29 Offset: 00031d1b"

Makes me wonder if the vobtrans.ax is the display it does during transcoding?

In checking the output files, It definitly made it further this time before the crash. I might also try the "turn off display" method listed in another post.

I'm going to try the IfoEdit route now.

are you using XP also?

I'm using a different interface, whatever it maybe

HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/regedit/btfvobedit/dvdd/dvd8.gif)

If you are using XP, try doing a problem DVD with those filemode DVDDecrypter settings I have posted and stick it straight into IC and keep all titles and see what happens

Keep all titles (just oversize IC by the extra that the unwanted titles are) and then you can just remove them after,so at least you know you are giving a good copy of the DVD to IC :)

The thing is your OS may be setup different to mine also :(

p.s. an example of deleting the VOB ID's incorrectly, I have just tried it

I have just come across an IFO and it has 16 VOB ID's, so I demuxed them all then drag and drop them into PowerDVD making sure the repeat is turned on

Then all I see is the warnings popping up, and flashing as they repeat so fast (repeat is needed and use drag and drop not double click to see files), if so I make a note so I know I can delete that VOB ID

the 1st VOB ID was just a blank screen nothing else yet if I deleted it, PowerDVD would not play DVD, it just hangs and the time on player just continues with just a black screen showing, instead of proceeding

All the rest where different language warnings so they were ok to delete but the 1st was needed

I hope you people know what I'm getting at :)

yes, XP. Seems like a lot of people are having crashes with the vobtrans.ax part of IC. Even others that have done 1:1 backups.

Unfaithful DVD please help me crash it...thanks
I just checked menus 100% and title 1 and 8. No crashes....maybe I'm an idiot cuz I can't get it to crash as so many people reported. R1 NTSC version. Here's my log.

just read this....hello but that is a HUGE NO NO
[X] Repair Subchannel data
You don't repair subchannel data....that stuff is for game cds and copy protection, etc. NOT DVDs. Read IC7 manual if you wish.

Do not have it error correct....any error correcting is done when it goes from DVD to HD with dvddecrypter. Do not have it generate sectors it thinks are bad, etc.
[X] Automatically create processing items

Both of these I've recommended NOT to enable in my guide since the beginning. Perhaps I should highlight them in red perhaps.

and does anyone know exactly what the Processing tab is for?(is it just relating to the burning?)

or could it be for problem discs as when you click on NEW button it gives a list of Exclude, Mark Error, Patch, Skip Track

and if you click LOAD it shows Copy Control Information files are needed, whatever they are

I'm confused, are you suggesting I should change those 2 options

It is not an option when using a IFO file from HD, as it's greyed. I use file mode with DVD Decrypter, and what that refers to is either copying from a DVD or ISO image, then it gives the option, so for me it is irrelevant whether it's ticked or not

so that's why I still recommend people use Filemode with DVD Decrypter 3.1.4.0 with settings as shown HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/dvdd.htm) because IC has never crapped out on me in 35 backups now and works everytime

good suggestion tho as it probably will disrupt IC if it does come across an error if people are using ISO mode

surely if it works for me why don't you try it

I will also post pics of all my settings within IC as I have changed a couple, to go with DVD Decrypter ones above, so people can basically use the same setup I have and see if they get the same 100% success rate I enjoy :)

Just tried to back-up Spartacus RC2 PAL DVD, and IC has crashed right after the very few frames of the main title. I could reproduce the error, and it turned out, that the cause is most problably the following: Righ after the "Overture" (a few seconds) there is about a three minutes blank screen, and only music is heard. IC does not seem to tolerate this long black period in the video signal.

D21 and DVDXCopy just do the back-up without any problems

I'm using XP and here are my DVD Decrypter 3.1.4.0 settings

HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/dvdd.htm)

and these are my IC 7.0.0.91 settings

HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/icset.htm)

Try these settings and give IC the DVD as it ripped, selecting all titles using notes below

things to note:

1) Do not use IC to strip Titles

2) When you start IC please check all the correct AUDIO/SUBS are selected as it does not do it properly everytime, especially the later titles

3) Try to keep menu at least 60% or more (50% also works but quality suffers), and min 50% for extras (go less if quality ain't an issue but no lower than 40%)

4) Keep small Titles less than 100MB at least 50%

works everytime for me no matter what I throw at it :D

that's as much as I can say for now as everyones OS & DVD knowledge is different, so no doubt people will still report it does not work but for the majority it should work so don't knock it till you've tried it :)

Hope it helps and I will keep trying to help you get the same results as me :)

Here's another problem with Rocky Horror & IC.

I noticed that it makes the first part of the movie, like the first 15 minutes, all black & white. The color is gone.

Anyone else seen that?

are you using XP and if you are, are your settings are like mine above?

are you 'Butchering' the DVD before you give it to IC?

are you selecting all titles within IC?

are all the audio/subs are correctly selected in each Title when starting IC as it misses some out in later Titles

what is the exact problem as you haven't given much info :)

are you using XP and if you are, are your settings are like mine above?

- I am using XP Pro on a dual Athlon machine.

are you 'Butchering' the DVD before you give it to IC?

- What do you mean by butchering? I decrypt all files to a directory or the entire DVD to an ISO file and do not touch it at all before presenting it to IC.

are you selecting all titles within IC?
- Yes, I have tried to do it both ways.

are all the audio/subs are correctly selected in each Title when starting IC as it misses some out in later Titles
- Yes all are selected

what is the exact problem as you haven't given much info
- The program abends with the same error as mentioned by others - MultiCopy had to terminate.

Any help??

Dean

Butchering is just something I came up with, really it's just stripping :). So I am right in thinking you are ripping DVD then putting it straight into IC, selecting all Titles without modifying in anyway, (this is the correct method)

how far into process does it fail?

are your DVDDecrpyter settings exactly the same for each pic as shown in my link above?, also the same regarding IC?. If not set them to the same as mine

What % is the menu set at? and what are your lowest % settings. Using low % settings for small Titles may create problems

My mother has the 4 Disc version of LOTR, is this the same as yours? as if it is I am willing to try it for you sometime soon, but it is down my list at the moment

I do not know how a Dual CPU may affect it, if at all, but disregard that for now

Well, it crashed again at the exact same point as last time. This time I didn't remove a single thing, not even extra languages or subs. Tonight I'll try the IFO file way.

MisterX, When you do the IFO files, do you use IC to burn and if so, does it grab the Audio_TS for you since its not a choice in IC during the compression? When I do an ISO file, I can select Audio_TS to make sure I get it.

On Rocky Horror Picture Show,

There is a menu option to get the first part of the picture, I think up to when they show at the Dr Fs, in B&W. It must have picked that option up.

Ifo file , you do not mean File mode?. I use file mode and select all files

I do not have an AUDIO_TS folder as I use DVD-VIDEO mode in Nero and it creates it all for me, I have created a blank .nrd file so I all I do is just open this file in the recnt docs bit and it sets it all up. All I do is just drop the files into VIDEO_TS folder and name disc, 10 seconds work, just as quick as burning a CD :)

I know some people have issues with Nero but again I think it mostly down to OS setup & Nero's version & settings as all my DVD's so far have had no problems or coasters

this is a pic of the results I get when testing quality of media after burning @ 4X HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/icpic/sam.gif), so nothing wrong with Nero for me and I use the cheap unbranded Ritek G04's :)

do the same brand DVD's play in the SONY DVD player, as sometimes DVD players are fussy regarding brans of DVD media

Yeah, I am using Verbatim DVD-R. I have more than 25 of them now in my changer and they work fine. I even made a UDF version with Nero, which has worked before, but that didn't work either.
I'm not really familiar with the difference between the ISO and UDF version of DVD anyway. Both play in my Pioneer. Does the Sony not support ISO?

2001: A Space Odyssey

Crashed at 98% right after the "THE END"!
I tried:
-ISO from DVDDecr (1:1 copy)
-ISO from DVDDecr (stripping titles)
-File mode from SMARTRipper (1:1 copy)
-IFOedit stripping everything down to bare minimum (movie only)
-IFOedit subtracting the last VOBids (after the "THE END" segment)

I am planning on trying a "file mode" from DVDDecr (on 1:1 copy) some other time, but at the moment only crashes for this film (only other option split to 2 dvds)

After "THE END" there is a 3 minute black period and then 4 minute of soundless clips this could be the problem but stripping their IDs did not help (I might have done it incorrectly through IFOedit!)

I think you may have just answered your own problem, if that is the case strip them after

or you could always try my guides for DVDDecrypter & Ifoedit to make sure the DVD structure is maintained so IC will not crash when it comes to an invalid reference

Yes I used the settings you posted. I'm not sure whether disc3 went in the same place as 1, but I think it did. I'll try it again when I get a chance.

This is using the demo version btw, if that makes a difference. I'm very interested in this software, and have been evaluating it with a view to purchase, but so far I'm afraid it fails on too many discs to warrant buying :(

Just some tricks I learned when working with InstantCopy and some problem movies /starwarsII/Shrek Region 2

These movies had different Angels (Multiangel) and in order to make them run with InstantCopy I needed to remove all Angels exept 1 with Infoedit.

If I didnt do that InstantCopy would process these movies untill the first multiangel chapter and then close stating that the process was succesfully done (but in fact there was almost full movie left to process).

Also if I stripped the Multinangels the Layer Break is removed !

DOH!!!

I went through my IC settings with a fine-toothed comb, and discovered that on the language and subtitle settings, I'd checked everything, thinking I was specifying what to INCLUDE, not EXCLUDE.

IC was obviously getting a tad upset at me for removing all languages and subtitles.

Disc1 now works, am going to try 3 shortly. Not sure what happened with 2, maybe I had those settings correct when I did that one.

It's in my IC settings about the subs & audio, yet you sed you tried em , maybe it want there, but at least it's sorted

IC settings (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/GUIDE/ics.htm)

I'm not saying it works for everyone, but you should have less problem DVD's if you use DVDDecrypter & Instantcopy settings that I suggest

Valnar :( still no success with RHPS, wish I could suggest something, all I can think isfor you to use Ifoedit to strip audio/subs and give IC just the task of transcoding and make sure every Title/audio/sub is checked. Have you noticed that the auto select of audio/subs sometimes misses certain audio/subs?

or you could strip the B/W option out and try that

ddepuemd, did you get LOTR to work?

Yeah I know, I sort of skimmed over that bit when I read it as I figured even I couldn't mess that up!

All seems to be working ok now, although I'm still baffled as to why the size estimation is so bad. Leaving it to it's own devices gave me a final image well under 4GB.

Using Disc1 of the 24 set, and a bit of trial and error, I've found that pushing the percentage of each of the four main titles up until the overall size reads around 4.9GB will actually give me a full 4.37GB image.

The size IC gives seems to be over-estimating by approximately 12% on these discs, is this a typical over-estimate percentage that I can apply generally, or will each disc be different?

its normally 7-9% for the main movie, but it's the extras that cause the problems

I have seen a 200MB file with a predicted filesize of 100MB @50% come out at 195MB!. That was the Grinch

all depends on the disc and what is contained in the Title video

so thats why I use the recorder I have uploaded, to input the original sizes, the predicted and the outcome

I can then use these for the 2nd run

the best way to do it normally is set up the menu & extras 1st at your preferred values

the slide the main movie title upto 4.32Gb predicted, and see what the predicted filsize is (figure outside the brackets) and add 8% of that to 4.32GB

you can always correct the outcome by adjusting the extras and replacing them

tells you howto in the guide

Unfortunately nothing worked! I have kept the file & ISO images in the drive so I can play around whenever (since it takes 20-25 minutes to re-copy from the original everytime) but I have lost faith on that film & IC for the moment. I am planning to purchase the DVD95COPY and have some attempts with it! (BTW MisterX I followed your guides but nothing seemed to work on this film... otherwise other films work a charm! Should say nice work on the web-page)

I managed to make IC to work on the 2001 space... by stripping the ending titles completely (sacrificing the last second of the movie, which is together with the titles!). The transition between the 16:9 to 4:3 at the end of the titles caused the errors.

It is fair to say that IC cannot handle these transitions, so watch out for them in films to avoid future crashes.

Tried to use IC to resize "The Sweetest Thing" (R2). Did all the stuff upto the main movie, then just bombs out with an illegal operation error. At the same point every time I tried - the pdi file was at 668MB......Any ideas peoples?

just a few questions before I offer suggestions:

what OS you got
what version of IC
what you ripped with and what settings
did u mod files before using IC
what you have stripped using IC
what % settings on movie etc
exact fault it showed or how it crashed & when
any other info you can think of

OS - win XP Pro SP1
What I Ripped - The entire movie (extras, the lot)
Did I mod the files - NOPE
What have I stripped using IC - NOTHING
What % settings - Movie 80%, extras 65%
exact fault - Didn't remove anything from movie - ripped the whole disc using DVD Decrypter in File mode onto Hard disc. Ran IC, didn't alter anything except the sizing of the extras and movie. Hit GO - started fine, got to 668MB and I got a "Multicopy has performed an illegal operation and needs to be shut down" upon checking the error occured in the vobtrans.ocx file. I am using 7.00.091 (The Latest version)

Thanks Mister X!

cheers for answers

nothing unusual in that lot :(, apart from checking your DVDdecrypter and IC settings, have you tried mine?

so it's as soon as it starts processing the movie it bombs?, or is it the backend of the menu?, the log file may be handy to see exactly when it bombs

you can autosave it, using a simple reg change, cant remember link to my post, but it's simple to do

is there anything unusual about the beginning of the movie Title 1 or whichever Title is is crashing on?

I just tried again to transcode and exactly the same thing happens - i was wrong before - it's 662MB not 668 :(

Anyways - it does all the extras first, because the main movie is in vob title 10. It does all the extras no problems, burbles away, then bombs just after it starts the main movie - it does all the menu, the usual gumpf at the start of a film, then just bombs...

HEEEEEELLLLLPPPP!!

try just the menu @100% & movie Title @ 100% so it just transfers it and uncheck skip the extras

just to see if it does the job or not

this is all for test purposes :)

Tried what you said - did exactly the same thing. Oddly, although the movie is in VOB10, IC sees it as Title 1, but then processes all the extras first, then the movie. The movie appears to get confused on one of the menus at the start of the film, it seems to stop for a while although the disc is still whirring away, then starts up on the menu, then bombs. I've got the image for you, although unfortunately IC didn't copy the image into the file....... let me know your email and i'll send it to you

Any help would be great.....

after reading all these problems ppl are having i find it very surprising i've done about 70 films sincs ic came onto the market and not had a single problem with any of them . i mean that. and that includes tv series, all regions , scratched, everything works great,

it seems that the problems that are ocurring are closer to home and should not always be put onto ic

:)

cheers ears
