In first I wanted to congratulate you for your program reclock, essential
After an idea has to subject to you in the same kind but the with dimensions one of l'image, on the sacades of the traveling due to the passage of the 25 images to the 75Hz explanation here http://www.trimension.com/index.php?page=downloads.html

Btw, I saw him posting this on the avs forum:

Blight: i'm quite surprised. I just tried to play a DRM file (scooby doo 2 trailer) with reclock + WMP9, and to my big surprise reclock is able to use vsync tools with DRM content. I may sound uninteresting, but it means something very important : reclock can access all the video frames in unencrypted format

Indeed i could extend reclock to become a media "(re)encoder". Simply you take any player with any media you want (DVD, streamed media, DRM) , even put ffdshow to tweak or resize the picture if you want, and then reclock could be used as an encoding engine : it would let you choose the codec you want, would be able to reencode at a different framerate, etc ... It could even be used to make 2 pass encoding i believe.

Sounds nice :)

@oddball : i'm back on doom9 forums :) Sorry for the inconvenience. I'm aware of audio timestretch bad quality, and i'll probably try again soundtouch library for the next release.

@Orezza: i already know trimension. In fact its quite funny, because trimension was created by the very same philips engineers that creation "digital natural motion" for philips tv sets. I have one of those tv sets, and the reason i wrote reclock in the first place, is that the "trimension" algorithm in my tv was not making its job because of stutter. You can also find another software "motion perfect" that does the same thing as trimension but not in realtime. I think a trimension like algorithm in reclock would be indeed THE solution, but this is a patented software, and i've never been able to understand what is hidden behind and how it works exactly ...

@Mark Rejhon : thanks a lot for your donation :) I have made you a response on AVS about testing with Powerstrip API. For now, i have tried scanlines add/remove method, but as i was expecting it, my video card (a geforce 3) show artifacts when modifying the scanlines number. For example, if i modifying the scanline number, then wait a few scanlines, and modify scanline number to original values, i get artifacts (whole screen vibrating). Did you have a change to test on geforce cards ?

@clehner : i'm not sure it can work with version 4.0. You will have to switch to 5.0 ...

@Cyberace : i'm not against giving you the source code of reclock to understand how it works, provided you don't give away the source code. But i'm not sure it will help you to develop your xbox player. You said me that this player does not use directshow, but reclock heavily depends on directshow to work ...

@Bitmonster : could you activate logging and send me a logfile ?

I'm our of business for one week (vacation :)) so don't expect any response for one week :)

@Wilbert : yes it's interesting ...

I think Philips natural motion looks bad. It gives a kind of artificial look to the picture and it looks like all movies are shot on video. The motion looks more fluid, but it also looks like scenes move faster that they are supposed to.

since Besweet now has the soundtouch option http://dspguru.doom9.org/soundtouch.html for files, theres yet another time stretching program to check. With so many people working on it, its just a matter of time of someone getting it done correctly.

I'd like to ask again if there is any chance to get rid of that VMR9 renderless vsynch tearing? With VMR7 everything is ok even without reclock.

About Trimension there was an old thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54192&perpage=20&highlight=trimension&pagenumber=2)
and at the last post there is a link (http://www.ics.ele.tue.nl/~dehaan/publications.html) to some papers of patented algorythms.

Actually "bought PowerDVD and set reclock to work with it" would be a good answer.

Well, I guess it doesn´t entirely fit in here, but since the symptons are similar to what ReClock cures, I´ll write.

I thought my system had that the timer were asynchronous, but as it turns out it rather was/is Windows default Video renderer. When I switched from "System Default" to "Old Renderer"(Media Player Classic, Options->Playback=>Output), the video ran smoothly.

Hi!

I am trying to post e-mail to ogo but reply was "maildir delivery failed: Sorry, the user's maildir has overdrawn his diskspace quota, please try again later."

+++
I am just downloaded reclock v1.4 and found that it has one big disadvantage. There is no more "videocard to use" dialogue. I read "change.log" and read the explanation "why". But you forgot about video mirror mode. I can't no more use reclock with video mirror mode. When i starting video player (light alloy or zoom player) reclock fetches vertical frequency from monitor where overlay is, but I am watching in another monitor (TV) and in this case reclock must sync to monitor where video mirror is and not where video overlay. In other case reclock 1.3 has another side of this issue. If i select secondary video card and than switch secondary display off at "display properties" and will try to whatch movie than reclock will not load or player gives an error. I think there will be great to have to choose certain video card and auto mode. The choise must will be!

Thank you.

I've got a Pioneer VSA-AX10Ai (which is the European equivalent to the 59TXi in the States). It has a USB interface that works perfectly with my PC. But when I use ReClock there is no sound at all  !!

I'm not quite sure why this happens. If I have understood correctly, what ReClock does is slightly modify the sound sampling frequency, so the problem might be that my Pioneer only synchs when sampling freq is exactly 44.1 or 48KHz. Am I right? Does this happen with other USB soundcards?

Please, help!! I posted this question at avsforum but nobody answered.

Thanks.

Hey,

Sorry if I missed something, but I have a problem.. My LCD is running at 60hz (or so it says), and I can't change it. And most of my movies are running at 25/23.9xx/24 FPS, so ReClock says it can't sync them.. Is there anything I could do?

Thanks.

There's nothing that ReClock can do unless you can change the LCD's refresh rate to a multiple of the movies frame rate.

If you check "enable guessing a better media speed when hardware refresh rate do not match" (that's on the Video Settings section of ReClock Configuration) ReClock will play at 24fps on a 60Hz display (see the Read me First document). But you won't have the best results unless you change your LCD's refresh rate.

What do you mean? The quality depends on the resampling quality of your sound card.

besides some other things reclock doesn't really do anything for me, if something starts choking on things the video gets even more fucked up instead of being unharmed. Very mysterious the effect that marking a dozen media files in explorer makes it hang the video completly.

What are you talking about? The GPL code is included in the binaries...According to the GNU Public License (GPL) if you use just any GPL code in your code you must release the full source code of that binary and not just the part of the code that you changed (which means Ogo must release the full source code of ReClock that the versions that incuded borrowed GPL or he is violating the license), ...if however the code he borrowed was under the Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL) then it would be enough to do what he did and just release the part of the code that he changes, but as it wasn't/isn't under LGPL :sly:

No OSD developer would/can argue with that (and be found in the right).

Does the license, or official interpretations of it, specify that removal of gpl code and removal of old binaries is sufficient or insufficient to remediate infringement?

What do you mean? The quality depends on the resampling quality of your sound card.

I was referring to the following quote from the readme-file. I was wondering if that is true for timestreching as well.

"Hardware resampling gives better sound quality (no degradation in quality at all), but due to some limitations of some soundcards, it may not work well on all of them (you may experience sound desynchronisation). That’s why it is not recommended."

clehner

Yes, and that confirms what I say, the quality depends on your sound card. Get a decent sound card (like M-Audio) and you are in the clear.

HIH

How I understand the quote is that the audio quality doesn't depend on the card. You will always get resampling that has no degradation in quality if you check "do resampling with hardware". But if you got a bad card you will experience other problems like sound desynchronisation.

Also this only mentions resampling and not changing the pitch which is what the timestretching option is doing. The readme file only mentions that the timestretching option degrades quality. I was wondering if the pitch also is done in hardware if you chose do resampling with hardware or if it is always done in software and still degrades the quality.

Does the license, or official interpretations of it, specify that removal of gpl code and removal of old binaries is sufficient or insufficient to remediate infringement?don't think a case like that with the GPL has ever gone to court and as far as I know the GPL doesn't specify any conditions in which you can remove GPL code to 'undo' previous violation, however I'm sure it' not allowed; he should have read and followed the license when he selcted to use GPL code in his project so what's done is done, he must release the full source code of all the previous binary versions that included GPL code.

I don't think anyone will sue him but what he did was wrong, and as I see it the only way he can make that up to the OSD community is by releasing the full source code on those binaries. Worst case senario if he doesn't (and no ones sues) is that he gets 'black-listed' by the OSD community which is not a nice thing.

Let me check on that.

However, the right thing to do that is play PAL with 24fps. Everything else is just not optimal anyways.

24 fps and 23,976 fps movies stutter a lot on a tv screen. Playing them on a PAL tv in 25 fps is supersmooth.

Does the license, or official interpretations of it, specify that removal of gpl code and removal of old binaries is sufficient or insufficient to remediate infringement?Legally it isn't ... morally it's pretty shaky too. Sure he did have to do a whole lotta work exploring the deeper recesses of windows playback ... but the code he linked in wasn't exactly a couple of easily replicated library routines either.

Whether it's legal now depends on whether he stopped distributing the GPL'ed code ... and AFAICS he has not. This thread should have been locked/removed a long time ago.

Specifically he is still breaking the following part of the GPL :

"These requirements apply to the modified work as a whole. If identifiable sections of that work are not derived from the Program, and can be reasonably considered independent and separate works in themselves, then this License, and its terms, do not apply to those sections when you distribute them as separate works. But when you distribute the same sections as part of a whole which is a work based on the Program, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms of this License, whose permissions for other licensees extend to the entire whole, and thus to each and every part regardless of who wrote it."

Im pretty sure he knows it too, since he says this "This is more GPL compliant" in the changelog ... which is like being a bit pregnant.

Ogo, if you are still reading this after all this time ... it's not in the spirit of the GPL what you have done, the spirit of the GPL is share and share alike under the same conditions. When people want to license something under the LGPL or BSD licenses they do so, when they don't they don't. Sure, it was your own big mouth which brought this to light but that is hardly an excuse now is it.
