Thanks Bro!

One thing though... I tried to update the FFMpeg through the program and I got an error message that 2 dlls are missing and when I hit 'Okay' the program terminates. Now when I start the program it keeps opening to that error prompt and all I can do now is hit 'Okay' and terminate the program. So, it is kind of stuck in a loop now where I cannot use the program.

I think what I will do is simply download the entire new update and start over with that, I'm thinking that should work...

But, I thought you should know about that closed loop error where after it shows you cannot use the program anymore.

Same here. Fresh download fixes it.

This is intended, because without the dll's the program can't work.
As the message says, download the release (v3.4.5), extract all files and restart.
The last nightlys contain the exe only.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong (what else is new...?) But, I'm trying to add AVS before encoding. I'm doing my usual HDR-SDR to 1080 encode from UHD-HD. But, when I click on Avisynth and 'Add Script', I create the script which your program has kindly provided the basic template. I simply put 'add borders (60,0,60,0) because apparently the UHD file is a 1.67 AR and MediaInfo shows the resolution to be 3600x2160, I simply want it to be fully Blu-ray compliant with a full 1920x1080 AR as it should be (Don't know why the UHD file doesn't already have the Black Bars on the sides making it compliant?) But... when I add the script the program completely freezes up and I have to close it.

Am I don't something wrong in the few, simple steps to add AVS script (in this case to add borders to the sides to make it Blu-ray compliant?)

Thanks!

Hi Lathe,
for adding borders only, using avisynth isn't the right way; use padding instead.
Look at the pic.

https://iili.io/KJzIXRa.jpg

First of all check the checkbox, then insert the frame height you want:
1080 in your case. The frame width is calculated automatically.
Then insert 1920 at pad width, 1080 as pad heigth is inserted automatically.
That's all. You can check with preview.

btw
the correct syntax is addborders(60,0,60,0)

Hey thanks Pro Wo Bro! :D Heh, good catch on the syntax. Excellent feature, glad you have it in there!

Um, something weird just happened when I was prompted to do an update. After doing the update and after loading the source file (a UHD MKV as usual) I entered the HDR-SDR information, but when I tried to 'Go to batch file' the program threw a weird error I've not seen before. I hope I can go back to the previous version which I just used last night on another UHD file perfectly fine. Now, if you choose 'Continue' on the error prompt, the program freezes up and has to be closed.

Lathe

Hmmm, that's weird... I just posted this and it's not here, okay...

Again... I just tried to do another UHD file like I always do (just did one last night and the program was fine) Today I was prompted with an update and after doing it it kept throwing this error (I'll either attach a picture or insert it) But, oddly when I tried an older version of your program I kind of got the same error, so I wonder what the deal is? I'm sourcing the movie file from a full UHD BDMV/CERT folder, about 70 Gigs. Maybe something is wrong with it, IDK...

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

Okay, I don't know if this will help. Since Clever FFMpeg wasn't working for some odd reason, I went to my 2nd choice Handbrake. It is rendering it and it looks like it is doing it okay (HDR-SDR / UHD-HD)

Here is the Handbrake log of it's initial scan of the file I'm using, the same one I tried to load into Clever FFMpeg, I don't know if that might give some information as to maybe what is up with this file (HB did take a LONG time to scan the file)

Many changes have been made since v3.4.5;
the most important one is that the portable settings have been changed from PC-specific to global.
This is why your previous settings no longer work and you are getting this error message.
Do the following:
Download the latest release v3.4.6 (from today!).
Delete all files in your clever folder and copy the new ones into it.
Then start clever and follow the instructions.
After that, you can edit your videos as before.

Ah, here we are... Heh, I forgot what my password was and almost go locked out, but fortunately I remembered how to check Google's password manager and found it! :D

Okay, so yeah, I did DL and run the 346 version as a brand new 'installation', but still got the error message that I had showed you upthread. I'll try updating to the Nightly and see if that helps.

Lathe

Yep, that did it! After I updated to 346.003 then it ran the file just fine, thanks!

Hey Bro... I just did my usual conversion using Clever FFMpeg on the new 4k 'HARD BOILED' release. This is the first time it came out sort of 'Jerky' I didn't do anything different, certainly not with the frame rate, but this is the first time this happened. Can you figure out what happened?

Thanks!

http://lathe-of-heaven.com/CleverSnippet.mkv

PS: When playing the original full 4k file it doesn't do that, only after Clever FFMpeg encoded it. Here it the resulting SWF_Open file:

Sorry to hear that.
Perhaps the bitrate is too high for this resolution and your hardware?
Just a guess.

I appreciate the reply mate, but the full 89 Gig file plays just fine... :)

I posted a clip of the Clever FFMpeg encode so that you could examine it and see maybe what was done to it. Thanks!

I'll post an UHD clip too. As you will see, the UHD snippet plays just fine... I tried to keep the file size down, this only has the video and is about 15 seconds with a lot of movement.

This way you can compare the original with the Clever FFMpeg encode. Thanks for your help ProWo!

Thank you ProWo for taking the time to do that, another person to ran it through Clever and it was just fine. I wonder what the hell I did, can you tell by the first resulting Clever encoded file above to give me some clue as to what I must have done? Why did I get that jerky motion?

Thanks!

Lathe

Hmmm... interesting. So I tried again using a small snippet like I posted above, and yes, Clever did the snippet just fine. BUT... I had run that snippet through MKVMerge in order to create the slices. So, I then loaded the full original file with the same settings, and guess what...? I got the Jerky motion again.

Sooooo... am I right in drawing the conclusion that somehow the original file will not process correctly, BUT if I run it through MKVMerge THEN it will...? The snippet I posted above was just like the one I did that DID work properly for you, but the original file BEFORE processing it through MKVMerge came out Jerky.

Interesting, don't you think?

So, now I am going to run the entire file through MKVMerge BEFORE loading it into Clever and see what happens. That is the ONLY difference between the two... :)

Lathe
12th November 2025, 05:17
YES!!! That was it! No wonder the snippets I made for you guys worked fine, for some odd reason the file 'Needed' to be run through MKVMerge first... :D I ran the entire original file through MKVMerge first and NOW I am encoding it with Clever (for some bizarre reason the current version won't open anymore and I have to use the last version, weird...) and YES! it is coming out just fine.

I'm glad I stumbled on it finally! I realized that the snippets I was making had been run through MKVMerge first and encoded just fine. Still don't understand 'Why', but I'm glad I figured it out... :)

Thanks for all the help!

@Lathe That's great you found the cause of the issue or a reliable workaround but still doesn't that suggest that there is still a problem with Clever FFmpeg-GUI, why should it be any different, it ought to be the same don't you think, also isn't it a bit peculiar that others aren't experiencing the issue with your sample?

Yeah, I know it's strange... So strange... Must be the Season of the Witch... OOPS, sorry, got carried away there... :D

Well, I don't know WHY, but the snippets were created WITH MKVMerge, so that is how I figured out that whatever MKVMerge was doing was apparently 'Fixing' it. The only thing that gave that away was trying to encode the entire original file right after encoding a snippet of it. The snippet was encoding just fine, the entire (NON-MKVMerged file) was not.

So, there you go...

Lathe
16th November 2025, 07:13
Hmmm... I still don't know what to do when they divide the movie up into a bunch of small files in the Blu-ray folder structure. I just took a look at the full 4k folder of 'HELLRAISER III' which is about 70 Gigs or so, but there is no single movie file to process, and I don't THINK there is any way to load it in Clever... :(

I tried dumping the entire folder into Handbrake, but I don't think it worked. I wonder what I can do to process the movie and also the Xtras...?

Lathe
16th November 2025, 07:33
Ah! MakeMKV to the rescue! :D I didn't realize that it would collate all those files in a UHD structure. Awesome, now I have a file to input to Clever! (although, I wonder if there is a way to drop the BDMV folder into the program and have it discern what the main movie file is or give you a choice of playlists to encode?

GeoffreyA
16th November 2025, 09:29
Exactly, MakeMKV is the tool of choice, creating a single file to work with.

I think it can open the BDMV index file; I forget what the extension is.

Yeah, I kinda had to guess on that one, but thankfully when MakeMKV opens a navigating window, like any program it shows only the kinds of files you can select. So yeah, I did select the index file and I was amazing when it started putting everything together.

It's interesting how that still comes up with new releases, but only occasionally... I've always thought it was simply an anti-copying device, but I wonder why you only see it once in a great while and why...?

(always curious... :D)

You may try DGDemux on a playlist then you can preview what is waiting, or try BDInfo.

You may try DGDemux on a playlist then you can preview what is waiting, or try BDInfo.

Wow, I think that may be a bit over my paygrade, but thank you kindly for the suggestion! :D

Hey ProWo! I'm having trouble for some odd reason with the A/V sync with this movie. The original UHD MKV file plays just fine. The movie is 'GATTACA' After doing the usual conversion from UHD-HD/HDR-SDR and then muxing the TrueHD audio and the subtitle files, and then using TSMuxer to rending a playable Blu-ray, the audio is out of sync. And, also what's weird is that if I adjust the delay say with VLC player, when I advance to a later part of the movie it still is out of sync.

This has only happened a few times and I THINK only with TrueHD tracks. What I've done in the past when I have enough headroom and the processed video track leaves enough room, I have converted the TrueHD track to a full PCM track which is considerably larger. That's always been in sync when I've had to do that. But, this time the video file is too large to accommodate a huge PCM audio file. I don't know if it's the Atmos part of the audio, which I cannot play anyway or what. When I check the muxed audio file that Clever did, MediaInfo says the TrueHD file has 16 tracks??! When I examine the original MKV file audio track it says 7.1+11 objects? Is that messing it up somehow? All I really need is the straight 7.1 or even 5.1.

I don't know quite what to do or how to get the audio in sync without losing the full HD audio quality.

Please help, thanks Bro!

PS: I'm trying using Eac3to to supposedly convert the original atmos TrueHD file into a TrueHD+AC3 file, I have NO bloody idea if that will help.

PPS: No, it still says 16 channel... But, I'll try to mux it and see if somehow miraculously it might be in sync... :)

PPPS: Ah... actually that DID work! I guess in doing the conversion it 'fixed' whatever was causing the audio to go out of sync. I guess in the future if Clever does the same thing, I'll just process the TrueHD through Ea3to. Still kind of weird as to why it happened.

Muxed with clever, right? If so, at this stage the movie is in sync?

and then using TSMuxer to rending a playable Blu-ray, the audio is out of sync.
If the audio was previously in sync, then that's where the error lies.

If the audio is no longer synchronized after muxing with clever, you should first remux the original mkv and then use the remuxed version for muxing with the SDR video stream.

Thanks! The original full UHD file played in sync just fine, but after doing the UHD-HD/HDR-HD conversion, THEN when trying to mux in the original audio either with or without Clever, it is wildly out of sync, and not consistently either. Because, when I say adjust the audio delay to a half second and it is in sync at that moment, when moving the player further ahead it is out of sync again.

It's ALMOST like when Clever processed the video, you would first think that it was made out of sync with the original audio. BUT... when I then tried using Eac3to to take the original TrueHD Atmos file and 'convert' it to TrueHD+AC3, THEN the resulting audio file IS indeed in sync when muxed with the processed Clever video file.

So, what I would GUESS is that perhaps in the original audio, maybe due to it's being Atmos, IDK... there is some kind of 'Marker' or heading or something that is off, and when I then process it through EAC3to, THEN it's like it's 'Fixed' it somehow and THEN can be muxed just fine with Clever's resulting video. So, clearly SOMETHING is wrong with how the original audio is processed, because just straight muxing it with or without Clever, the resulting file will not sync.

But, at least I have something I can do to 'Fix' it. But, I'm thinking the error is NOT with Clever due to what I've tried.

I don't think the truehd audio stream is defective.
It's more likely that there is a problem with the timestamps.
That's why I advised you to simply remux the UHD mkv; this will rewrite the timestamps and could solve the problem.
