Kinda hoping for an update that will fix the remuxing of 3-4Gb MKV files, which I have to use AVIdemux for, user interface wise MKVtoMP4 is preferred.

I don't know if this is just on my system, but v0.221a is the last version of MKVToMP4 that will work on my computer. I am running Windows XP SP3 w/ all updates.
And on a side note, bit of a feature request, could we implement file splitting? Files > 4gb will not play on PS3 since they only support USB formatted with FAT32 and not NTFS.

On my system (also WinXP SP3) v. 0.222 is the last one which works. 0.223 does absolutely nothing when I try to run it, no error messages at all.
Since my CPU does not support SSE2 I believe that the new version of the Qt libraries is to blame in my case. Oh well...

First time I've used MkvtoMp4, but for me also v0.223 crashes at opening on my PC - XP Pro (SP3), CPU: AMD XP2800 (no SSE2).
v0.222 works OK though.
Otherwise, nice program.

Well, this app is by far one of my favorites because it lets my PS3 playback videos otherwise unplayable. Please provide compatibility for us folks with older machines for future versions if what @manolito said was true. Love this program!
Is there any hope for file splitting support?

MKV tools v6.4.1: http://mkvtoolnix-releases.bunkus.org/
QAAC v2.21: https://sites.google.com/site/qaacpage/cabinet
Would be lovely with an update :)
I just want to inform you that, using 7-zip at highest compression settings, it manages to shrink your latest release down to 45.7mb, instead of 90-something. Would be good for those with slow connections ;)
Edit: Extracted the qtfiles from Itunes x64 v11.1. Most of the DLL's are new. Uploaded it to mega to save you some time:

Why don't you remove the old qaac versions? The newer ones are much superior to 0.86 which is found in your tool. :)
Any proof for this?

Nice app, thanks for making it.
Is there any way you could add a setting for putting the output files in the same folder as the source files? That way you could just drag files into the app, hit start, confirm start, and it would do its thing and put the converted files in the source folder.
Also, can we have a setting to get rid of the start confirmation? I am confident that I will never hit start by accident. :o
Addendum: Just noticed that the x64 version .224 will put the converted files in the source folder if you leave "output directory" blank in the setup.

oreons it is great to see you back and making updates to this wonderful tool. I sent you PM about confirming paypal email for donation via US/English paypal as donate button takes me to Russian version and the only Russian I know is when toasting with a glass of Vodka :)
For others requesting features or updates, please keep in mind developer does this on their free time so let's help compensate as we want to keep him coming back here :thanks:
Some feature requests of my own:
- support of keywords metadata item
- ability to have custom genre choices. perhaps ability to load in a custom genre.txt gives ultimate flexibility while making it quick to implement in tool
- HD video types - can we add a "HD 540p" option
- In edit chapters, provide ability to import via OGG formated TXT file on edit chapters window
Fantastic tool and thanks for keeping it updated!

Not sure if this has been asked before, but would it be possible to add the ability to modify the SAR flag, at the video stream level, without having to re-encode - as one can with YAMB and CLI Mp4Box? Since MkvtoMp4 uses Mp4Box, that is surely do-able ?
Cheers.

Hi folks,
I was goofing off and playing around trying to teach myself some encoding ... so took my DVD5 (yea still messing with DVDs) and got corresponding VOBs ... then used MakeMKV to make MKV out of those without Re-Encoding ... so, I tried playing the MKV back on my Netgear EVA9100 ... and it was way Jittery, both Picture and Audio.
So, then I got this bright idea to use MKVToMP4 to change the MKV to MP4, assuming that MP4 might play back Better.
Well, long and behold MKVToMP4 went into Conversion Mode. I did Not realize that it would do that ... Plus it did Not gave me any options to Change Settings.
So, I checked the Output MP4, plays just fine and the Audio is Loud and Clear. But my Original Audio was 448Kbps and MKVToMP4 took it down to 192Kbps ... I might have wanted to do it 256Kbps or even 320Kbps ... anyway
Q1: In Conversion/Re-Encoding mode What is the differnce between "MKVToMP4" and "XMedia Recode" app?
Q2: Which is Better or More Effective for Re-Encoding?
Thanks,
G! :)

I'm not entirely sure why but I'm having some real trouble with getting DTS converted to Dolby Digital (AC3) from some MKV's. And it's not because the audio in the source is broken as the audio playback using the MKV file itself is working perfectly, the toolkit is also able to fix the DTS to Dolby Digital conversion for every other episodes of the same season I've got ripped to MKV but this one specific episode is just not working.
I've tried 32-bit and 64-bit, both with and without administrator privileges. I'm not entirely sure what might be causing this issue? I just end up with the result file not featuring any audio tracks whatsoever. It doesn't help by trying AAC instead of AC-3 either. Quite strange.

May be the Audio is in DTS-HD MA ?
You can check with Mediainfo - if its says DTS MA / Core then its 7.1 (8 channels) instead of the usual 5.1 (6 channels).
Now the tricky part is that it is backwards compatible, so playback with a (software-) player only recognizing 5.1 (core) will work, transcoding is another issue though and requires a different approach.

Does this fix the randomness I see when selecting the artwork? if they are not all downloaded it comes out that the artwork picked up is not the one chosen. I have to wait until all artworks are downloaded, but this sometimes takes time...
I also have another question. It is about subtitles for 3D movies. What should I do to avoid the subtitle misalignment? Maybe this is not an issue specific to this tool!

Hi oreons,
Even with the latest 0.224 patch, MkvToMp4 is stuck on "Loading artworks. Waiting..." Even when I try to save the episode descriptions, etc, it's not working. I noticed that TagChimp officially closed their website a couple of weeks ago; is this the reason why MkvToMp4 can't find artwork?
P.S. This has been bugging me for a while... the proper grammar for the plural of "artwork" is still "artwork". There's no such thing as "artworks". ;)

This is a known problem with iTunes. You need to download an image that is a perfect square (e.g. 600x600 pixels) for the image to be picked up on your iPad. Mp4ToMkv used to show these square images in its artwork section, but at some point these images were removed from the list.

Just tried the fix, but it still randomly hangs on "Loading artworks. Waiting..." :(
Finally figured things out. I had to set the iTunes Country to be "United States". I had to set it under Settings -> Tags -> iTunes. Setting it only under the "Tags Search" window won't work. I live in Canada, so I guess certain shows / movies aren't available here which is probably why it couldn't find any artwork.
Also, here's a tip for those of you who found that random episodes won't import into iTunes: when you edit the tags for each episode, try unchecking the "ContentID" and "XID" options. This will clear out these codes (which can confuse iTunes, especially if you're in a different country) and you should hopefully be able to see all the episodes when importing.

Not sure why but the covers started working again.
Another slight problem and I'm not sure how to fix.
Why would the audio encoder add 1000 plus ms to a video? The video in question runs fine (mkv) but after I use this program the audio is out of sync. Only happens one one film and to my knowledge it's never happened before. I've double checked the file and there's no errors with it.
Thanks for any help

I'm guessing the author is not updating this SW. I've notice many of the tools used have significant updates (eac3to & mkvtools). I've been updating them manually for months.

Could you upload the ones you have updated manually? I have not read up on how to update the various tools within MKVtoMP4 so I don't really know how to do it myself.
