oreons,
Was just curious what in your SW want allow the latest mkvtool set to work properly (in the mkvextract folder)?
In SW like your, I always try to keep the individually used tools up-to-date. I've updated sox, qaac and x264 with no issues, but the mkvtools (mkvextract folder) are from 2010 and the latest ones don't seem to function properly. I just figure based off the release notes of updates from bunkus..their may be some benefit.
I really love your application and use it weekly ! :thanks:

Hi oreons.
Thx for this amazing tools.
Just a question: i have a lot of .mkv 1080p with also trueHD or dtsHDaudio films.
I want just change container to can share this file with PS3.
Which config i have to use to just change container and use mp4 instead mkv without touching the video and audio quality!?
i try one film conversion using this configuration:
http://prntscr.com/mo4wr
http://prntscr.com/mo585
it's correct?!
because it takes alot of time to convert...i'm not sure if it are renconding or not.
Thx a lot.

I did not want to crosspost, but at the time I did not know this thread was here and I apologize for that. I will link my prior thread, and if need be, a mod can move it here?

Hi, I have the default settings but I still have problems with the sound conversion (DTS and AC3 tracks). The conversion creates a file louder than the original. It adds in the process some kind of audio dynamic problems that turns down the volume abruptly to the original volume level and then turns it up gradually. It does that A LOT so that makes the movie hard to follow. I uploaded a sample of the original audio file (AC3 6ch) and the audio result (aac) from mkvtomp4.
AC3:
https://www.box.com/s/46mr9grp5ojqlvsqzer3
AAC:
https://www.box.com/s/fpao3a9foqt1pvteb2b9
Play the files with VLC.
How can I fix this problem with the aac encoding settings?

Pringles,
Use Sox in audio track settings for this file. For others, usually enough AC3-Heavy settings.
EpheMeroN,
All components of the program work in Windows 7.

here to report an priority bug, the program should first check if a input file name was valid for output before doing the repack, instead of the opposite right now. I'm getting annoyed by the program reporting an error at the end of the process because my original file name contain special characters, and then i ended up getting a useless .264 file in my temp folder and I need to delete it manually every time.

23rd February 2013, 18:52
I'm seeing what I think is an error in the log, however it does not seem to effect the output.
[Win32] system failure for tmpfile(): 00000005
Any idea why and should I worry?

Oreons:
In a future version, would you consider adding something like this (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/delay/archive/2009/09/30/give-your-computer-insomnia-free-tool-and-source-code-to-temporarily-prevent-a-machine-from-going-to-sleep.aspx) to keep Windows from allowing the PC to go to sleep in the middle of a job? That would make this amazing tool even more perfect.

MkvToMp4 0.223
Thanks! Actually sent you pm on sourceforge today about new versions of mp4box etc :)
I use your tool on daily basis, and after many times using it i've come up with some small suggestions:
- Add the ability to add external audio/video to the final project? Lets say you load a mkv, and have encoded the audio separatly.
- New QAAC: You are using 2.13, newest is 2.17. + You store it in the 1.xx-folder, but is 2.xx.
- Under settings->audio->aac, possible to choose "both" when it comes to preferred channel
- Remove "Exit the program?" nag when exiting the program when it's doing nothing/ no files loaded.
- Visa versa, mp4 to mkv. Sure, mkvtoolnix does that job, but AIO tools is more usefull than many seperate
- Add stuff to a mp4 file, without the need of rebuilding the whole thing. mp4box can do that, right?

o-l-a-v,
- Add the ability to add external audio/video to the final project? Lets say you load a mkv, and have encoded the audio separatly.
On mp4 (m4v) file press "Edit mode" button.
New QAAC: You are using 2.13, newest is 2.17. + You store it in the 1.xx-folder, but is 2.xx.
You can write new version to the Qaac folder.
- Under settings->audio->aac, possible to choose "both" when it comes to preferred channel
Create both aac 2.0 and aac 5.1? First time I heard about it. Why do that?
- Remove "Exit the program?" nag when exiting the program when it's doing nothing/ no files loaded.
ok
- Visa versa, mp4 to mkv. Sure, mkvtoolnix does that job, but AIO tools is more usefull than many seperate
I will not do that, there are other good programs.
- Add stuff to a mp4 file, without the need of rebuilding the whole thing. mp4box can do that, right?
Through repacking mp4 (Edit mode button). Without repacking edit tracks unstable.

Ah, Ok. Thanks!
About channel: When a mkv has two audio streames, one stereo + one 5.1, the program auto uncheck the 5.1 (Even though both are aac).
Why can't it just leave both streams checked?

Thanks for the new version!
Unfortunately version 0.223 refuses to run on my machine...:scared:
I believe that the reason is that my (quite old) computer only supports MMX and SSE, but not SSE2 (Intel Celeron Coppermine). And it looks like the new Qt version you are using for the new release was compiled without the switches which make it work with CPUs which do not support SSE2.
Any hope that you might change this, or do I have to get a new computer right away?
Cheers

If you want to include all the audio tracks in the file, set
Setup-Audio-Choice when processing a file
- All tracks
or
- All tracks in default lang

@oreons:
Thanks for this great tool. I wanted to use your program to pass-through some of my MKVs to MP4 after I searched and tried a lot of various other tools.
I downloaded MkvToMp4_0.223.zip from your first post. Then I scanned all the included files with Virustotal and got this:
GSConv.exe
TheHacker Posible_Worm32 20130404
TrendMicro PAK_Generic.001 20130404
TrendMicro-HouseCall PAK_Generic.001 20130404
Full report here:

Are you building GSConv.exe yourself or did you obtain that from an other source? If youīre building it yourself, you should contact TrendMicro so that there is no false positive anymore. If youīre not building it yourself, can you please tell me, where you downloaded that file from? I searched with Google but was only able to find various Virus detection links and some Russian websites that also linked to this file, but no author/website information whatsoever. Please understand: This is not an accusation of any kind, I just want to be sure that we donīt have a potential problem here.

First of all, if you get a result from VirusTotal where only 3 out of 46 AV scanners think they found a virus, then you can be quite sure that this is a false positive.
Second, this file is compressed with UPX, and that's the only reason why TheHacker and TrendMicro report a virus. Test it for yourself: Unpack the file and send it to VirusTotal again (I just did it...).
For me this is reason enough to stay away from stupid products like TheHacker or TrendMicro.

I was already quite sure that itīs a false positive based on the PAK signature that TrendMicro reports and that lead me to believe of an executable packer of some kind, but you never know for sure until youīve inspected/tested it for yourself. If I had found any author/website information that would have been even more helpful to compare that with a file from an original source rather than something that comes bundled in a software package, thatīs why I was curious where this file was obtained.
For me this is reason enough to stay away from stupid products like TheHacker or TrendMicro
While I certainly agree with that notion (Trend Micro had a pretty bad reputation when it comes to real-time protection, not sure if that is still the case today, since Iīm currently using McAfee products in our customers' infrastructures), personally, I donīt trust anyone when it comes to security and certainly not an anti-virus program.
Thanks for your time inspecting/testing it.

When adding a track, its possible to select several files, but when adding them, only one is added.
Can you make it possible to add for instance two audio streams at the same time? I have made myselves two audio files (m4a) for every video. One 2ch, one 5.1. Would save me alot of time.
Could you also make an option to enable "Edit Mode" by deffault?

mkv chapters are taken?
what's the meaning of the field "Encoding Parameters"? I don't want to re-encode. The conversion is very fast so i don't think it encodes the mkv but i've a dubt.
What's "repack parameters"?
If i check the option:"Enable MP4 Optimization when loading the file", the mp4 optimization is applied at every file loaded/converted?
I read that this feature can speed up the streaming of the file. I have all video on a sharecenter in my LAN and i see them on my ps3 without having pc turned on. Can this speed up the loading/streaming?

You can encode Hi10p to 8bit. Version h264.exe in the tools directory support it.

What's "repack parameters"?
By default, h264 and MPEG4 Visual format is repacking. The other formats encodes.
If i check the option:"Enable MP4 Optimization when loading the file", the mp4 optimization is applied at every file loaded/converted?This option is for ready mp4 files. For repacked files optimization not needed.

hi,
i'm converting mkv with aac audio 6 channels into mp4 stereo. I checked AAC 2.0 encoding to downmix channels and Sox as DRC. When the conversion is finished, your software show me a yellow triangle of danger about the audio track. I says that the new track (2:14:ss) is shorter than the source (2:22:ss). Infact, when i open my video, the audio is good until that point. Then it's cutted out and no more audio.

The infamous size limit for WAVE files has struck again...
Other than doing the audio conversion separately, there is one thing you can try within MkvToMp4:
1. Make sure that the latest SoX version 14.4.1 is used. This version (kind of) supports WAVE files bigger than the usual size limit.
2. Edit the SoX parameters by inserting "--ignore-length" (without the quotes) at the beginning of the parameter list.
This will cause SoX to process the input file up to its real length. I have no idea if the following QAAC command will be able to process the whole file, you have to try this yourself...
Good luck

i'm converting the audio of the movie becouse i've this (http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?ProductCategory=SOUND&ProductGroup=SPEAKERS&artnr=17460) 2.1 on my tv lcd.
The original audio without DRC applied, sounds better but there is a difference between high sounds (effects, music) and low sounds (speeches)
I play it on my PS3 via HDMI
My tv has an option in audio named "Dolby Digital". Is there a way to make sound good without DRC?

Yeah, I tried it myself, and it does not work because MkvToMp4 does not allow you to insert the "--ignore-length" parameter at the correct location.
The parameter must be inserted before the input file parameter, and MkvtoMp4 has no option to let the user edit the SoX command line. Something for oreons to correct...
If converting with DRC or not is a matter of personal taste. The default DRC command in MkvToMp4 also raises treble, so it might sound better depending on the source audio characteristics.
Cheers

Is there any command, option that would allow me to raise volume of converted AAC 2.0 track in mp4 files ? Many times when I'm downgrading from DTS final audio track volume is extremely low. Normalize option does not help much :(

I love this tool so much! But there is one thing I can't seem to wrap my head around, is there any way to get MkvToMP4 to not automatically downscale 1080P into 720P upon encoding of video? I can't seem to find any such option so I have to manually keep an eye out for MKV containing video streams that have to be encoded for it to be compatible with the MP4 container and the manually deactivate the rescaling myself.
And is it just me, or does it actually convert Dolby True HD to Dolby Digital (AC3) instead of just grabbing the actual Dolby Core which is a part of 99% of all Dolby True HD tracks? Why start converting when you can simply pull out the Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) 640kbps core within the True HD stream?
It also seems to be bingo whether converting DTS and DTS:HD into AC3 gets in sync with the video stream or not, are there some options I can enable to make this better? It often seem to either be 20-50 ms early or too late in many of my MKV to MP4 repacks.
EDIT: I also miss the possibility of choosing 0 when using constant bitrate encoding of the video streams, some of us have loads of hard drive space and just don't wont to spoil any quality out of the video stream and not wait for the VBR to process.

I decided to come back and give this a try again. Thanks for all the development as it has come a long way. Mostly is working very well for me for mkv files where the video does not need recoding.
I am having a bit of difficulty with some mkv files that contain aac audio as the only track. All I really need is for the audio to pass through but I consistently get mp4 files with video only, no audio at all. I tried selecting enable aac, installed quick time, tried nero, quick time and core audio. All seem to still result in an mp4 with no audio.
mkv files with ac3 or dts audio do just fine.
What am I missing? Thanks for any suggestions.

Wonder if you can give me a hand with this one, normally everything is working well but sometimes I get a file that process, here is one of them:

This is my biggest grip with the current version. There seems to be no way to get the MKVtoMP4 toolkit to work with MKV's featuring AAC tracks at all.
I've tried to output it to Dolby Digital (AC3), tried using both 2.0 and Multichannel AAC but it's just not working, all my M4V files outputs a M4V file without audio altogether.

Any way to fix this 2-4GB WAV file problem, I'm trying to convert my collection that I already ripped to MKV from my own sizeable collection of retail discs.
TV Shows are fine but I have 150+ movies that I really don't want to have to rip again.
I'd stick with MKV but I want compatibility with Apple devices and games consoles.

New qaac version, v2.20: https://sites.google.com/site/qaacpage/cabinet
New mkvtoolnix, v6.3.0-1: http://mkvtoolnix-releases.bunkus.org/downloads.html#windows
Why don't you remove the old qaac versions? The newer ones are much superior to 0.86 which is found in your tool. :)
