I was to suggest about the .BUP files. Can you also remove ADV_OBJ folder and try again? I guess you 'backed-up' the .ifo files as bup, right?Yes, that's how I created the ".BUP" files.
I'll now try your "PBCut" and post findings, since you indicate it DOES NOT contain an "ADV_OBJ" folder. If I do so, is there anything further/different to be accomplished by downloading and burning the other two samples? (I ask because I don't have any rewritables at the moment - not that the world will come to an end for using a dozen or so discs, if it helps you create something that I would have great personal use for ;>})

PB cut is almost the same as other samples, so better try it.
I'll do some more tests tomorrow.

Sorry to say I obtained identical results using the "PB Cut" package.
Should I or shouldn't I try either "Captivity" or "Wild Ocean" now?
The discs DO require UDF 2.50, don't they?

Thusfar, all of the following played under PowerDVD v.7.3 but yielded negative results on the Toshiba (seen as "non-compliant DVD"):
1) (SONY) DVD5 - Booktype set to "DVD-ROM" - "HD-DVD-Test_2" and "PB CUT"
2) (SONY) DVD5 - Booktype set to "DVD+R" - "PB CUT"
3) (SONY) "PB CUT" Unchanged
4) (Verbatim) "PB CUT" changed from 29.970fps to 24fps (as "required" by "ReferenceDivx" program)
5) (Verbatim) DVD9 - All written to one layer
6) (Memorex) DVD9 - Data split evenly to each of the two layers

You did a lot of tests :)
The only thing I can think of is x264 encoding options. May be Undead_Sega should point out how he encoded the .264 before muxing with hddvddemux.exe.

If you read the convoluted posts by "Undead Sega", you'll note that he/she has NEVER tried a burned disc on a standalone player (Refers to sending it to a friend to try on an XBox 360). Therefore, any reference to "success" would be exactly the same as where we are presently - only known to play properly on a PC.
If I remember correctly, the long ago partial success I had with the Toshiba seeing the disc as an HD-DVD was based on a small sample of Paramount opening credits that I downloaded from the now non-existent site of "ConvertDivx". If you have that sample (and a "James Bond longer sample), perhaps you'd be good enough to upload it here - and maybe burning a disc with the Paramount demo (and, possibly, the Bond demo) will provide us with the necessary insight...
I think mixed in this link you may be able to cull out the information regarding the x264 usage:

I use these encoding parameters, too.
Ok, if you have multiAVCHD downloaded yesterday - you can start it and it will update to 667. Or you can download the complete package again.
Marking a title as HD-DVD is done in "Title properties" / Uncrop / Set for HD-DVD output. You need to set resize/uncrop to 1920x1080 and Framerate to 23.976 (or original if your video is already 23.976). For short tests you can "trim end" the title, so you can have only few mins encoded and not the whole thing. (for example trim 0 - 120 for 2 mins)

I hate to sound stupid but, then what do I select in order to create the EVO file, IFOs and BUPs, and HVDVD_TS folder? After clicking "Start", I see no options related to HD-DVD (Only see PS3, AVCHD, BluRay options)

Just do what I showed in the screenshot above. Output mode (after start button) makes no difference... Just click Playstation3 for example. I had no time to change the overall workflow of multiAVCHD... not until this HD-DVD thing really proves to work.

Before I asked you about this, I had selected "BluRay" - and the output was typical BluRay folders and files - plus an EMPTY folder named "HDAVCTN".
There were no EVO, IFO, BUP files created.
Please advise
**EDIT** Just got same results using PS3...

It seems you're skipping the most important thing - setting a title for HD-DVD mode.
1) Load a file in multiAVCHD
2) Media tab: click the name in "Title properties" group box
3) New window (as in my screenshot) will appear
4) Click the UNCROP button
5) Click "Set for HD-DVD output" and set resize/uncrop to 1920x1080 and change fps
6) Click APPLY
7) Click "OK" to close title properties
8) Click "START" and then any button.
In the log file you will see REENCODING and Profile: HD-DVD. Posting your log may help, too.

Thanks for clarifying - I was really beginning to worry about one or the other of us ;>}
Once you/we have gotten the HD-DVD function producing discs that are playable on HD-DVD standalones, would you be able to add .M2TS files as an input format? That would allow for conversion of my growing collection of "BD-Rebuilder" compressed BluRays to HD-DVDs
By the way, how is it that you are so well spoken in English? (The Chinese "Dean" is very creative)

Use multiUPDATE (if not asked for autoupdate). I included m2ts/ts/trp...and all other types for HD-DVD.
And something else:
1) Try to keep path+filenames+titlename shorter, because hddvddemux crashes if length is >200 characters.
2) Your log shows you are adding "Audio titles" - this is a completely different function of multiAVCHD (for creating audioBD discs).
If you want to add external audio tracks to a title - in title properties go to "Audio files" and add the external one.
We should've tested Nero output with your player, before putting any hopes in this. Here is a sample from Nero (http://rapidshare.com/files/262521636/HVDVD_TS_NERO.exe).
Also you may take a look at this link (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/hddvd/thread/8855e4d2-2b86-453c-bbb6-43871a29a3c6/).

Success - mystery solved!
After culling through the old thread you provided a link to ("social.msdn", etc.), something rang a bell regarding my long ago partial success:
In addition to the "HVDVD_TS" folder of your "Test2" (NO "ADV_OBJ" folder necessary, since package being created is "Standard" and not "Advanced", I created a standard DVD structure (VIDEO_TS folder containing a blank .VOB plus the necessary .IFO and .BUP) and burned a UDF 2.50 data disc (Saying "No" to both of IMGBurn's suggestions to burn as "DVD" and to use UDF 1.02).
Now I'm off to use the latest version of your program to see if I can successfully convert an .M2Ts for playback on the Toshiba...
deank
1st August 2009, 20:05
Yes, VIDEO_TS was the idea behind my suggestion to take a look at the thread. Since I have no means to test it, it's all in your hands now. :)
(About the weird nero clip - sorry - i just cut the video hence the audio-only part)
Let me know of any outcome.

BTW - Why does it create a "..264" (Yes, TWO periods) in the SOURCE folder?
Also, does it really have to re-encode an already x264 encoded ".264" videostream?
deank
1st August 2009, 22:14
It creates the .264 file, because it is needed for the muxing part (be it for hddvdmux or tsmuxer). The 2 dots are probably just a typo, which does not affect the compilation.
If there is no .evo created, multiAVCHD reports failure. There is not much I can do about it.
And source needs to be reencoded (even if it is already x264) because for some reason keyint >14 breaks hddvdmux "operation".
I will test with another m2ts, but I got no errors so far.
Did you manage to get at least ONE DVD to play in your player?

Did you manage to get at least ONE DVD to play in your player?Of course I did - that's what my6 post #169 to this thread is all about!
The following is what resulted in a DVD5 playable on the Toshiba:In addition to the "HVDVD_TS" folder of your "Test2" (NO "ADV_OBJ" folder necessary, since package being created is "Standard" and not "Advanced", I created a standard DVD structure (VIDEO_TS folder containing a blank .VOB plus the necessary .IFO and .BUP) and burned a UDF 2.50 data disc (Saying "No" to both of IMGBurn's suggestions to burn as "DVD" and to use UDF 1.02).

I just needed a confirmation, because it was not really clear to me.
I can make multiAVCHD produce the VIDEO_TS + the blank dummy structure.
So we have some progress in just 2 days :) which is a good thing I guess.
I will test with m2ts later/tomorrow. Please post what files you can process and which give you 'mux error'.
Again: please use source and destination paths as short as possible. I changed hddvdmux.exe to handle longer paths, but it is not included in the release you have.

setarip_old

@deankPlease post what files you can process and which give you 'mux error'.ALL attempts at creating HD-DVD files/folders have failed - using M2TS directly from ripped BluRay "Stream" folders, (non-BluRay) M2TS file created with "tsMuxeR", MKV created by "MKVMerge".
If there is no .evo created, multiAVCHD reports failure. There is not much I can do about it...
I got no errors so far.Naah, if you've gotten no errors so far, there must be something obvious that's causing my repeated failed attempts. Perhaps it has something to do with file placement - Do you place the MKV (or M2TS) in a particular folder (Perhaps the same folder with your program?
I believe I have have AviSynth v.2.57 installed. Is that okay in support of your program, specifcally regarding conversion to HD-DVD?
If you have a BD-Rebuilder "movie-only" .M2TS file, would you be good enough to try converting that to HD-DVD? (Presently, such files are my only source for trying the conversion, either in their initial .M2TS format or converted to MKVs)
deank
1st August 2009, 22:50
My configuration is with avisynth 2.58, but I don't think it makes a real difference, because it is the x264 options that are important.
The only failures I had was long paths+filenames. When hd-dvd mux fails what do you have in the output HD-DVD-**** folder?
Dean

Yes, I hope this is the problem, too.
It is included in the full download and you said you have it.
Please make sure you download multiAVCHD_3.0.exe from my links (http://multiAVCHD.deanBG.com/download/) (it was not updated @ videohelp).
To verify that you really have the latest full download you need to check the extracted .\multiAVCHD\tools\ folder for
hddvdmux.exe [287KB]
bvts.hddvd [4KB]
Also there were some more changes to multiAVCHD, which you will notice in the log while processing.
multiAVCHD will now create the additional VIDEO_TS folder + a looped black video and will remove ADV_OBJ.
If you don't want to download these 20MB again, download this hd-tools.rar (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/hd-tools.rar) and extract it in multiAVCHD's tools folder - it contains these 2 files (hddvdmux and bvts).
Make sure that you perform multiUPDATE too. Anyway - I suggest that you simply download the whole package again.
I'm not sure how hddvdmux handles output EVO sized. Non-advanced compilations (produced by nero) have EVOs split at 1GB. If you get 1+GB files and your player refuses to play the disc - please add the ADV_OBJ and try again. Of course it may not be necessary.
Be advised that multiAVCHD will reset bitrate to 8000 if it finds that you set higher value. HD-DVD specs set maximum video bitrate for 3xDVD @ 8000kbps. Also b-frames, keyint and refframes are changed to 2, 14, 2.

Why does the framerate have to be 23,976?
HD-DVD supports 25 fps, too!

Required software/applications (in no particular order):
- hddvdmux
- Avisynth
- MeGUI
- BeHappy (alternative or what tickles you)
- DGAVCIndex
- Nero (latest version is principle).
- Software you personally use to rip your HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays and into one file.
- A shitload of codecs.
A lot of tools and steps.
Step 3: Before anything with the video, you must consider the audio which is very important, because the standard bitrate for HD DVD audio is 448 kbps and the audio format that hddvdmux will accept is AC3.
@setarip_old: Is there a chance to confirm it? I haven't seen such bitrate restriction for HD-DVD in the specs. If 448 is the only bitrate working (with hdddvdmux), then one should set it in multiAVCHD, too (muxer&audio - non-hd to ac3 audio), but I can't know for sure.
Also (in multiAVCHD), clicking the 'set for hd-dvd output' checkbox will make multiAVCHD set the proper resize/fps/uncrop settings. This of course :) let me successfully convert one 43min 624x352 23.98fps XviD AVI with MP3 audio file to HDDVD.
Since the discussion will most probably move to the subject of multiAVCHD bugs, rather than hddvdmux ones, I'd suggest to continue in multiAVCHD's thread.

Another nice HD-DVD sample (produced with multiAVCHD and hddvdmux): BenQ Green Island (210MB) (http://rapidshare.de/files/48015651/HD-DVD-BenQ_-_Green_Island.exe.html). Source is 45mbps 1920x1080 MPEG-2 file with PCM audio (1GB) and output is 1920x1080 AVC with AC3 audio (210MB), using the maximum allowed bitrate of 8000kbps for HD-DVD.
@setarip_old: May be a good idea for people with HD-DVD players is to ask BD-Rebuilder author (jdobbs) to include a parameter/option for movie-only encoding, compatible with HD-DVD profiles. The good thing is that the same (HD-DVD) settings will work just fine both in Blu-ray/AVCHD and HD-DVD AVC streams. It will make things much easier from now on for people who want to backup Blu-ray to HD-DVD.
x264 settings for HD-DVD are all around. If multiAVCHD's ones work for you I'd suggest them for bd-rb if jdobbs has time to add (at least a hidden ini option). In such a case, multiAVCHD will simply demux the h264 stream + the AC3 audio stream and will mux them back with hddvdmux.
Because subtitles are not available and at the moment the reencoding of video is the only option, anyone who needs subtitles (and have external SRT/SUB or anything recognisable by ffdshow) he can enable [x] Subtitles in ffdshow (without touching the 'letterboxing options') and get them hard burned.

Yes, it took you really long to post your method. I simply suggested to help in speeding up all the steps required with less tools and effort, so I'm trying to add this HD-DVD functionality to multiAVCHD - that's all.
It didn't "explode" after your 18 steps-to-follow post month ago. I simply had no free time to put in HD-DVD until few days ago. I neither used anything from your guide, nor the sample you provided. I also do not understand your enthusiasm, provided you don't have a HD-DVD player (or am I wrong?).
Anyway...
I just added an option to skip reencoding if multiAVCHD detects that an imported file is already compatible for HD-DVD (hddvdmux).
Still, title has to be marked for 'reencoding' and 'set for hd-dvd output' in UNCROP window. @setarip_old: you can load already encoded .264 files - no need to wait/reencode each time you want to test. It should work for mkv/ts/m2ts files, too. When importing a demuxed .264 you need to add audio file (as external audio) because hddvdmux won't work without audio track. LOG TAB will print a message if imported file is compatible.
Compatibility check can only be performed for files, carrying the text-based 'encoding settings' field, written by x264 in h.264 stream. Check relies on few important settings like keyint 14.

So, after all, for what it's worth ReferenceDivX should get the apologies from all who discouraged/insulted him for putting out a working (although not without flaws) EVO/HD-DVD muxer.
Using it is pretty straight forward, provided you feed it with proper h.264 ES + AC3.
I have no use of the HD-DVD format, but I believe a lot of people are grateful for the time put into creating the hdddvd muxer by him.
If I find some time, I'll edit his source and will try to make it a bit more stable.

I have no use of the HD-DVD formatLet me just suggest to you that, should you come across an inexpensive (discontinued but available) Toshiba HD-A3 or similar, which is a combination HD-DVD and standard DVD player, you'll be blown away by the quality of the upconverting of standard DVDs to 1080p (or i), compared to the upconverting quality of SONY and other brands.
The combination of this upconverting quality and the ability to play HD-DVDs (commercial or homebrewn) may change your thinking ;>}
ReferenceDivX should get the apologies from all who discouraged/insulted him for putting out a working (although not without flaws) EVO/HD-DVD muxer. You are absolutely correct. Although I myself made some negative/questioning posts to the thread originally, they were certainly not an attempt to "rip another one" for the author, as was done over and over by another unnamed member/author.
Of course, you "deank", modest person that you are, deserve massive credit for taking a rough hewn, semi-functional tool, and polishing it and incorporating it into what is fast becoming an eminently useful and flexible GUI "package". Kudos to you!

I still prefer the PS3 + the external 320GB HDD which allows me to put 50GB 1920x1080 without burning to optical media. :)
I myself made some negative/questioning posts...
I guess I missed those and it was not you who I referred to :) but it speaks for itself for those who pretend to be able to read the (virus/trojan duh) program source.
Anyway :) I believe there are still things to be polished but at least we know it works most of the time.

@Deank
have to report success. Used 672 on Troy (HD DVD) sucessfully, at least to the part you are involved in.
I did create a MKV from Troy (ac3to) HD DVD and ran this through multiAVCHD. For some strange reason a rebuild EVO didn't work (no picture after import). 20 hours later (movie length is 2:42:47) I had a running HD DVD-DL9 on Toshiba A3.
Only one issue, which I believe is because of the nature of the Troy HD DVD.
The A/V is out of sync right from the beginning, actually the video is going so much faster after 2min already 20s but after a while it is constant. AND the video became longer, it changed from 2:42:47 to 2:43:07, strange.
I guess, it has something to do with ffDShow decoder. The Troy video is VC1 and I experience some distortion during normal PC playback as well (using the built in ffDShow decoder).
I will try a separate encode using neuron's DGVC1DecNV. PLEASE post your x264 commandline and the temp avs script here (want to make sure I create a compatible AVC)!
I know it should not impact the encoding, but obviously it does. Apart from that, quality on the A3 is great, playback is w/o distortion too. The fake DVD folder (VIDEO_TS) does the trick.
BTW. there is NO free alternative to multiAVCHD. The Videostudio recommendation does not work for me. If you want to create a HD DVD, VS11+ does NOT allow you to change project properties to AVC it ALWAYS wants to re-encode to MPEG-2. I wasted an hour with that crap. Same with Movie Factory 6 (you need to buy the HD Plugin together with the '+' version which will work and allow AVC in HD DVD), no AVC in HD DVDs with the normal version. You are the only one my friend!
We need chapters, please!!! Fast forward works on the A3 but chapters are sweeter.
edit: see blue corrections

1) it is multiAVCHD, not multiAVC
2) Do your tests with the latest build (676+) which includes 5 quality (2 for 1pass and 3 for 2pass encoding)
3) Try H264/MPEG-2 Blu-ray, not VC-1 - just to be sure that everything else is okay, so you can rule out VC-1.
4) I can't provide any support for these conversions and stuff - it is all test and error
6) Chapters and time seek - don't get greedy. Once I figure it out I'll do it - it is too time-consuming task, and I really have other things going for multiAVCHD at the moment.

1) sorry about this
2) does not work on VC-1 either, it is ffDshow (on my machine not liking this specific movie, VC-1)
3) it works on all other (so far)
4) well, you could share your x264 encoding parameters, ne-way I figured it out myself, I will use neuron's (Donald Graft) DGVC1DecNV for decoding.
Btw. including the opportunity to import .dga (DGAVC), .d2v (DGMpeg) and .dgv (DGVC1) would give the -skilled- user an advantage in speed and quality (no color conversion, NVidea CUDA decoding support) and maybe solve the VC1 issue I have (most likely my problem with my screwed machine because I give to much support and test out to many different programs)
5) ..
6) Fast Forward (not Time Seek) is working on the Toshiba A3, no need to do anything. I would have worked on the chapters, unfortunately the Ulead software is not able to mux a HD DVD structure using AVC video content. That way I would have had an .ifo w/o chapters (from HDDVDMux) to compare with one with chapters (Ulead VS11 | MS6). But since there is no existing free nor commercial software for HD DVD creation with AVC support...
Hint: don't waste you time on the Scenarist HD DVD software (there were two, for standard and advanced content). None of them were able to built a project, although AVC was imported it crashed somewhere in the middle of the structure built)
have a nice day,

Hi!Time seek is working on the Toshiba A3, no need to do anything. Are you referring to using the "TSEARCH" button on the HD-A3's remote to select a specific time in the video, or something else (Perhaps fast forwarding)?
If so, while playing an HD-DVD created under multiAVCHD on my Toshiba HD-A3, when I press that button and the cursor over to "Time" and set it for ANY time and press the "OK" button, the HD-A3 breaks and displays the message, "Cannot play the disc. Check the disc."
This same function works properly with commercial HD-DVDs.
BTW - What is the firmware number you have installed on your HD-A3?

My mistake, I meant Fast Forward. Will try the time seek tonight.
Firmware is Version 4.0

Just to report: using DG???IndexNV (version 1.07), DGDecode + AVS Script and manually re-encoding with x264 lead to a perfect .264 file which was imported by multiAVCHD (b680) and used to built a HD DVD structure.
That way I was able to produce Toshiba A3 playable HD DVDs from MPEG2, VC1 and AVC source content while utilizing GPU power for decoding and resize functions. Thtat solved my Troy-issue as well.

Things have progressed far beyond a sample.
I'd suggest you start reading the "multiAVCHD" sub-forum here (In reverse, from newest to oldest post), download "multiAVCHD" and start easily, in a significantly automated manner, creating HD-DVDs.
You'll see that "deank" has done a marvelous job of enhancing an initially incomplete tool and integrating it under his extremely flexible "multiAVCHD ;>}

And, you still haven't answered a question posed to you by "deank" a while ago, namely - Why do you have an interest in converting files of another format into HD-DVDs, when you'v stated that you don't have a standalone HD-DVD player?
Please be good enough to explain.

Thank you so much to both authors of hddvdmux and multiavchd. To my surprise I got my 2.5 hours mkv (previously converted from bluray) into a working hddvd compatible disc in just 4 hours, which I don't think is possible with freeware up until now. It plays perfectly on my standalone player and Nero Showtime with burn-in subtitles.
Of course there are still problems of some sort. It is a bit strange that TMT won't play the folder or disc. No chapter support and can't use time search with standalone player makes jumping to previous scene next to impossible. Fastest fastforward is still not fast enough. May be something is not quite standard here.
It pumps new life to a dead format player (dirt cheap too) which now can playback any new release HiDef movies. It will be perfect if it can support chapter points, proper subtitles and fix why TMT won't play. I know the reality suggest otherwise. Still it is like a dream come true.
