Not yet, we will probably release a CLI version again when we are done with the next generation encoder.

wow.. next generation... cool...
*the only thing is.. how to properly(and open sorcerly, and.. easy) decode (or transcode) 5.1ch AAC streams... eh..

AC3 in MP4 is hack == evil

And I don't see what it has to do with playing 5.1 AAC

Maybe he meant AAC?

Hi Menno,
Which Nero GUI lets you encode using the vbr quality option?
I use the cmd line to do all my 5.1 encoding via -q 0.4, and I don't seem to be able to replicate this using the nero provided GUIs?
Any chance we can get lucky and get an interim update of the cmd line before the next generation?
Thanks!!

Hi Menno,
Which Nero GUI lets you encode using the vbr quality option?
Most actually use this, the Encode Files dialog for example. It just doesn't show exactly the q value (I guess you have to slide it 40% from the left...). This dialog will be improved greatly soon, also allowing ABR and CBR options.
Any chance we can get lucky and get an interim update of the cmd line before the next generation?
Probably not, sorry.

BTW, we found a bug when using -2pass option on 5.1 files, better not use that!
Old versions also had this bug, will be fixed in next version.
Can you clarify the nature of the bug? Does it apply across the board, for certain ranges of average bitrates, certain encoder modes (lc, he, hev2), ... ?
Or does this mean the only vbr-based 5.1 mode available is '-q'?
and BTW, what is the significance of q=0.37618960441 to the 'he' mode? (q=0.37618960442 fails)

That 5.1 bug affected all modes. -q is the best to use if you want VBR (I personally prefer ABR, but that is no matter to you I guess :) ).
that -q number is probably exactly the limit after which HE AAC is not used anymore? Or do higher numbers work again?

Was trying to understand where the issue was in order to avoid it. And I thought I saw a statement someplace that it was related to hev2, but I guess not...
that -q number is probably exactly the limit after which HE AAC is not used anymore? Or do higher numbers work again?Uh, yeah, it is. My question, out of curiosity, was the signifcance of that _particular_ value as the cut-off...
Or did someone just start grabbing random digits, tacked them after ".3" and said "yeah verily thou shalt not do 'he' beyond this quality"

Hehe, I see, no, the limit for HE AAC is 80kbps. That q value is what the encoder relates to 80kbps. So it's not some human that spend a lot of time figuring it out, it's just the result from our bitrate to q mapping function :)
