I would just like to thank the people that help me along with my first seamless disc Identity.Ive watched it through now and it plays fine. The only thing is where scenarist cant handle seamless discs properly, where the id changes theres a slight jerk(only word i can think of to discribe).

So Thanks....

I've done that disc too.. was a lot of fun. Even more fun was trying to notice the parts that changed in each version. They weren't easy to detect!

Congratulations on getting it all working!
I also notice the pause on my standalone but it plays flawlessly on the computer...
Well Done!

As an aside, maybe not with a geriatric player?

@ matthew
are you calling my player a geriatric?
...no its nothing wrong with the player, merely an observation that the differnces between the two versions is a matter of seconds.
its not like a lot of directors cut/extended versions which contain LOTS of extra material (LOTR anyone?)

Actually I just misread the replies, thought they were referring to not being able to spot the VOBID skips :/ Which I imagine would be a great deal easier with a geriatric player. Anyway disregard what I said =)

If the differences are so small, I wonder why they bothered, maybe research found it would boost sales

actually you are right. my poor ol' player has to have a bit of a think at the change in vobid. not too long just enough to be noticeable.
as for why the two versions? i believe that whoever was in charge of content for the DVD was a purist who dislikes the current trend of changing the movie for the DVD release from the original cinema release.

well there is one obvious difference, the ending scene where you see stuff from the guy's mind as he's sitting at the table.. that part is different. but there's apparently another difference in the beginning of the hotel entrance part (according to the ifos hehe) but I can't figure out what is different!

after the couple goes into their apartmnt and the 6 flips to a 9. the extended version cuts to a scene where the psychiatrist meets with the judge and the lawyers. the judge and the prosecuter state how upset they are that the defence is trying to get him an insanity plea. the defence attourney introduces the pshychiatrist when he enters the room at the end of the scene. it runs ~ a minute. then it catches up to the theatrical. this scene is not in the theatrical at all

@ matthew
sorry i probably made it sound like a more covert 'pull the wool over the silly masses eyes' than what i intended.
its more that i am p***ed that many movies are not avaliable in their original theatrical/cinema release. instead, you get 'the extended version' 'directors cut' etc, etc (eg blade runner, and need i mention the future release of star wars? )....and i dont understand why they cant simply put both versions on the same disk.
movies can be magical...they can transport you back to the moment that you first watched them ... and the child within gets confused when all of a sudden a cgi jabba the hutt makes a cameo appearance

Ahhh...okay

Coincidentally I very recently remarked elsewhere about how Lucas should put both versions of the Star Wars trilogy on the one DVD. But you can't expect that sort of behaviour from Lucas, it makes too much sense.

ummmmm....because it would fit on a single DVD (usually)
lets take for example a movie where they add 15 minutes of extra footage, and call it 'directors cut'
if this 'directors cut is authored to fit on a dvd-9, then they could easily 'fit' the original version as well, as it is simply re-using vobids and if authored correctly does not (significantly) increase the size of the final product.
methinks they are simply lazy .....or too self-indulgent to think anyone would want to watch anything other than *their* grand vision....
@matthew .... thought i read that somewhere
