Watching DVDs with linux

Hi. im a linux n00b

Im using vectorlinux 3.2 SOHO edition, and i just want to watch DVDs with it.
The bundled mediaplayer (Xine) complains about CSS encrypted DVDs, so i downloaded the css-auth package but i have no idea what im supposed to do with it? so help!!!

Update:
I Now installed the Captain CSS plugin for Xine following these wery simple instructions (even i could understand these) in his site: http://debianlinux.net/captain_css.html
But when i start Xine thers no change. i still cant play my DVDs.

Since you are using VectorLinux, which is based on slackware, i assume you can use also .tgz packages to install programs, like MPlayer(the best video player). check this site, & you can get MPlayer ready to install from there. http://www.linuxpackages.net

I downloaded and istalled mplayer but when i try to start it it says: mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libdvdread.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You should be able to find what you need here:

Ogle is a very nice DVD-Player for Linux too, it offers support for navigation which MPlayer lacks at the moment (unless you configure it to use libdvdnav I think, never tried myself).

the status of binary player distributions is a bit unclear (at least it is to me

) so you can always download 'libdvdcss' as a standalone library and install it yourself...

You may try GeexBox at http://www.geexbox.org.
It is a stand alone package but should be easy to handle with boot manager. BTW, it is only 4 MB in size and can be booted via many ways.
